Guess this owner is looking to lose the business through a lawsuit. Hueytown location employees are stupid enough to leave ALL the spotlights on with 2 of them aimed directly at traffic on 59 Northbound. If I ever wreck here or I witness a wreck, I will make sure this company gets added into a lawsuit as the reason for the wreck. And its even worse in fog. Next step will be to contact all city officials and report it when the solution is as simple as slightly moving 2 spotlights. You couldn't pay me to do business with these losers when they can't even respond to an email.

Please read entire review. This initial part is several years old now.I've been there twice. The first time I caught it when they tried to short me about $50. I thought it was an honest mistake. I went last Thursday and they got me for about 15 lbs of brass. And cause I didn't catch it right then they say they can't help me.im trying to contact frank the owner of the place to no avail as of yet. The guys who help you sort stuff are nice guys buy when you go to cash out.youd better know what you had and check your receipts.personally I'll just go somewhere else if I have to do my job and their job too. And so now I've been there countless times and had no more issues. It was just a honest mistake I believe. But I'm watching now!!! And lastly apparently some of the places off tallapoosa like standard pay a dollar more per hundred for ferrous metal.and also pay a lil more for brass copper and aluminum. Not sure what the deal is there.

Nice friendly staff. They treat you like you treat them. Great place to recycle

I have been to this location many times, and only once did I receive a fair price, which happened solely because I only brought in bulk cans. If you bring anything other than the lowest-grade materials, YOU WILL GET CHEATED. Even if that’s what you have, I must implore you to avoid this place for the greater good of the community. This business and its employees have zero professionalism and do not deserve to operate here. Plus, the driving area is littered with nails, screws, and other hazards, showing a total disregard for your safety and property. For your own sake and the good of the community, GO LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE. These people are actively committing fraud and/or are so incompetent that the only reasonable explanation is that this is legit their first job after finding them in the Home Depot parking lot. Yesterday, between 11 and 12, I brought in high-quality aluminum, stainless steel, brass, and medium copper, all separated and cleaned. I saw this boy, who was working alone without a supervisor or any other employees in sight, put the steel and aluminum together on the scale. When I protested and took out a magnet to show him, the boy, in the most unintelligible English, actively lied to my face and deceived me, saying he already knew the weight of one and was going to subtract it. He even continued to misidentify metals even after I corrected him multiple times. Then, I watched him put the brass and cleaned copper together on the scale. I protested in Spanish this time, but he told another bold-faced lie. No se puede culpar esto a la ignorancia o a la mala comunicacion. Imagine my anger when I took my ticket to the rudest individual I have met all year at the counter, and only after finally deciphering their non-industry-standard gibberish acronyms did I realize this man just paid me $0.06 per pound for the aluminum/stainless and $0.75 per pound for the brass/copper. Not only were these the wrong prices and wrong materials listed for what I brought in, but it was also the prices they give for the lowest-quality metals. Worse still, they were even less than the prices advertised on their own sign out front. The only thing he did correctly was to accurately record the amount of incorrectly combined weight. Talk about the bare minimum. This is not how you do business. You do not falsely advertise. You do not damage customer vehicles on entry and actively put their safety at risk. You do not hire employees who not only have no idea what they are doing but have less than an elementary grasp of English and leave them unattended to deal with clients. And you do not defraud your clients. Whoever is in charge needs to fire those employees immediately before they cause any more harm. Whoever hired and left them unattended to rob people should be absolutely ashamed. Honestly, this type of fraud and criminal negligence must be investigated and prosecuted. After another incident I had with this same location and a different guy—which I initially tried to rationalize as my own fault—I came prepared this time. I documented everything, made sure to record both audio/video of each interaction, record the items, their individual weights on my own scale, the weight on their scale, and the receipt—including intentionally misleading and non-standard acronyms— I am actively reporting this to the appropriate authorities. I honestly didn’t want to have to do this. I have met a few good people here who are friendly and experts, but they are so rarely available. It’s not worth going here, hoping I might get a fair price, only to be cheated every time. I also cannot allow a business engaged in criminal fraud to operate without consequence, especially when they’re so flagrantly violating laws and robbing the community. I sincerely hope the decent employees find better opportunities than this dishonest racket.

Came with all new copper to scrap unused the workers gave me half for the price of copper and the other was just ferrus metal which was so low. so basically they are going to rip you off. Be very carefull or go to one that will weigh it in front of you. I would not recommend this place unless your just dumping junk off.

Every single time I have went here I get screwed over, the Mexicans that work there have their own hustle going and will count your ticket off as a lower paying material just to keep the remaining total , they have a pretty cleaver little system going but you can't be janky and scandalous like they do that work there and not get caught up with , cuz their day is coming , hopefully the owner isn't in with it too , and puts a stop to these criminals

We have been coming here for almost 2 years and absolutely love it! Everyone who works here is helpful and great to work with. They just made it even better though. If you understand loading a 16ft trailer to the brim with iron/steel you know how much work it is. Now when you go to unload they have a designated big time magnet to clear it off for you prices are always good and they are to the penny honest!!!!

Not friendly at all the girls in the office are very rude and they rip you off I would suggest to go to standard. They are the best in Birmingham very friendly, not rude like rather’s.

The facility was easy to get to. Great communication between you, the outside employees and scale master. They had me unloaded and paid in about 15 minutes. Good scrap prices too.

First scrap yard I've been to that had a macaw running the payout window. Tried to convince him to upgrade my #2 ICW to #1 but he just said hello and kept breaking pens.

Quick and easy. Weigh going in..you unload the metal..weigh going out. Today was 7.5 cents per pound. Copper and some other metals pay more. Less than a mile off interstate 65. Check them out.

This place is a rip off! I would not refer anyone to this business, they were rude and will cheat you at the scales and the window when you cash out!

I’ve only been here once so far but that’s all it took for me to have a very pleasant experience! They are quick and accurate , could not ask for a more friendly group of people . They are very fair with prices as well . Great place to do business ! Highly recommend!

The fact that I can find things on the side of the road from time to time and build a small collection for a rainy day is great. But when I'm rushed through the small scale I felt robbed by Spanish guys as I set my load on the ground close to the scale every trip I made my pile was getting smaller the Spanish guy is rushing me through. So by the time I have everything close the little bit I actually saw being weighted is what my tick said . Who knows what weight wasn't recorded. I enjoying scraping but I refuse to be robbed in my face. Not customer friendly or a way to treat customers.

This is my go to yard in BHAM. Good prices, and nice staff. I’ve brought in some weird stuff (heavy motors with large chunks of brass attached) and they worked with me increase the price even though the material is dirty. Only thing is if you are new make sure they pay you for the right non ferrous stuff. Sometimes they don’t like using a magnet to check what you bring in.

This place is awesome. The Owner, employees in the back, all the way to the women who work the front pay desk are like family to me. They don't put up with rift raft at all, he keeps great records of what he takes in so don't try recycling stolen stuff because he will call the cops. But other than that he is a good fair man running a great business. And I recommend Rather's!

Best place to take all you scrap. Offers the best and most competitive pricing. The owner goes above and beyond for his customers. Makes you feel like you matter unlike most places where your only another number. They take all types of scrap and he even has a web site which you can refer to,to get the latest prices. Employees are super nice and helpful. They are open 6 days a week 7:30 - 4:30 sat close at 2. I highly recommend.

The light on this scale is not working we took a truck and trailer load of stuff and got only $6 after I talked to several of my friends they said they stopped going there because they felt like they were being ripped off I know for a fact my stuff should have weighed more 100 lbs my suggestion is that nobody should go there because they don't have lighted scales and I feel like they riipping people off my wife took this load if I hadn't been with her I would have loaded everything back up and took it somewhere else hopefully they're just not targettin women and ripping them off ! However other people that is having the same experience are not women

I want to start off by saying I usually do not write reviews but after the experience I had today I think this needs to be shared and be seen so other people can avoid what happened to me today. I was cheated on the amount of pounds of copper I brought in today. Like literally just a few minutes ago I got cheated! Not in the sense of I thought I should get more than what the going rate is or anything but in the amount of weight I was paid for. The scale showed was 226lbs, however that was with two garbage cans to hold the scrap metal also on the scale but those were weighed first at 6lbs a piece. Unfortunately for me though, the ticket they gave me for it only had 200lbs written on it. Now I know 14lbs isn’t a whole lot but to blatantly steal like that was really bad in my opinion. Especially since I was standing right there watching everything. If this wasn’t a bad enough experience, the price that they gave me was $.50 lb less than what I received from recycle USA the day before. I do not understand how places like this keep their doors open with business practices such as these. I would definitely not recommend this facility for any reason

Got a quote from Mr. Rather for some catalytic converters. My wife took them up a month later to turn them in. We were quoted $30 a pc. We got $80 for all four. I'd would be fine with this however scrap prices for precious metals has risen considerably over the past 6 months. I gave it three stars for the help on the quote and because they're a typical business.
