I definitely not recommend this business. I would also highly recommend that the city of La Crosse rethink any contract that they have with this business. Cheapest is not always the best. They are rude, misleading and downright disrespectful.

Had a major breakdown with my car that I needed for work. They were able to basically rebuild half my front end. Bonus that they had/had access to the parts and got it done within a day and a half, along with a few other bits of maintenance. Always have had a good experience here.

I’ve had an experience twice with Don’s Towing due to an AAA partnership; once to change my tire and once to jump start. I was pleased with their punctuality and willingness to help, however I did feel slightly talked down to by their staff, but it was late afternoon both times so I understand if it had been a long day. The reason I am rating this company so low is because of my previous experience. When my car was jump started, the technician (not going to name names) said that my alternator needed to be replaced and that I needed to get to a shop ASAP otherwise I wouldn’t be able to drive. I drove to AutoZone immediately after and they tested the battery right in front of me, and the battery was the issue. My problem is that a technician, a person I should trust, is giving me false information, accidentally or on purpose. I don’t want this to happen again and something more disastrous to happen. I don’t fault the technician or Don’s because mistakes do happen, but I do want others to be aware.

If I could give less I would. I usually only write about good places and if bad, refrain from saying much. However, the lack of customer service, the rude employees, swearing at customers, providing incorrect information, and complete lack of empathy; this place and it's workers are lower than low. I would recommended any other place before Don's Towing. I don't care if the work they do is done well. It does not make up for or justify such inappropriate behavior, poor de-escalation skills, and complete disrespect! I will be sure to let everyone know. There are several places in this area with far superior services; both in car service and customer service. I come from a past of customer service, and currently have to deal with several unhappy people in the hospital. If I ever heard any of the way they spoke today, people would either be fired or written up. The worst service I have had in my life! In response to the "owner" response: Yes, this is the correct location. Yes, it is the intended review. I did have some grammatical errors, so tried to fix those. No, I do not wish to discuss this further. The opportunity to address the issue was then and there and due to the terrible customer service, I honestly wouldn't want to speak with you again. My review and opinion stand and I will continue to give the same opinion, as I already have, to multiple people. Oh, and for privacy and security purposes I never use my full name online. Additionally, I don't know how you would know exactly what vehicle I am referring to, because you did not ask.

2nd time giving Dons my service. Second 5 star review. Honest pricing, quality repair/work and courteous staff. I like that they sent pics to show what needs replacing. I would recommend Dons.

We own and operate a fleet in the La Crosse area. I see many negative reviews regarding the price of Don's. My thoughts on this are you get what you pay for in towing. We have used nearly every tow company in western WI. Don's is by far the most consistent and professional company we work with. They have never said no when faced with a weird scenario. I have had to call them 2 to 3 times in one day and they always answer the call. Their office staff are very friendly and incredibly helpful. Their drivers are considerate and professional. If we are in their service area Don's in our first choice.

They agreed to tow us and then after speaking with us and giving us an ETA they bailed on the tow ten minutes before the ETA. All towing companies are horrific, but this one... This one is just pathetic.

50$ a day is straight up robbery, this business should be illegal. edit: never was a customer, never will be a customer unless some idiot towes my car. just screw these guys. you dont touch someone elses property and then say if you want it back you gotta pay. its legal robbery, LITERALLY. "industry standards" be damned, every tow service is just a crook by default

The driver who towed my car was super helpful and friendly. They did a great job getting my car back on the road quickly. However, I was displeased with the price on the service, so I left a 2 star review. They just called me not too long ago asking why. I stated that it was quite costly (repair not towing) considering other estimates from other shops in the area. She LAUGHED and said “well it’s a Lexus”. That’s not how you treat a customer complaint. The audacity to assume that I don't know how much these things should cost, or understand that it would be more than let’s say a civic. I really had no problems until they reached out to me regarding my review. I was even going to change it to a four star review, despite the cost, since they fixed my car so fast. Not after that conversation. Yikes just go somewhere else.

negative 5 star....front desk staff very rude and unprofessional!! especially old manager lady which had a very disgusting attitude towards minorities. i felt discriminated against as i walked away with my head down because i was judged out loud by the manager lady who said people dont just get off of drugs!! yes they do lady! recovery is possible.

I wanted my battery tested; not because I was having issues but because it’s 5.5 years old and I have a fear of being stranded somewhere when traveling. I stopped in Don’s and they came out and tested it. While I was sure they would tell me that they recommend a new battery, I was pleasantly surprised when I was told that my battery was good (still at 698 of 700 something). To top it off, “No charge”. I know where I’m going when I do need any repairs! Thanks, Don’s! You made my day!

Big shout out to Adam at Don's Towing! He was so helpful, kind, and patient while helping my dad and I to get his van towed today! Adam truly was the best!

If I could give negative stars, I would. Why AAA continues to contract with this so-called business is beyond me. Don's called me soon after I placed a service request via AAA but then when I explained where I needed a tow to and from they suddenly switched their tune and said “we aren’t going to take this job”, rudely refusing to help me even though they're less than 2 miles away, giving me some BS excuse that it was "rush hour.” (It was 4pm in La Crosse, WI. To call that "rush hour" is absurd, and anywhere it's literally their job to tow no matter when or where people need towing.) They clearly just didn't like the mechanic that I had asked to have my car towed to. In disbelief, I asked, 'well are you going to get someone else?' Don's said they would put the service call back to AAA dispatch, but after requesting several updates via the AAA text bot I find out nearly an hour later the service call was cancelled on me. For a tow that should have taken 15 minutes at most, I was stranded on the street for 3 hours. I will do everything in my power to get AAA to drop this pathetic excuse for a business. In the meantime: protect yourself and refuse to give them any work. 4/28/25 Update: Don's reply is yet another bold-faced lie. My tow request was perfectly within the bounds of my AAA membership, and anyway if that were truly the reason they abruptly refused the job, they would have said so then.

I'm just happy that you guys gave me honest prices that follow the wisconsin law about how much a tow fee and storage fee would be. Unlike some of the other towing companies in town who think they can illegal overcharge ppl. Anyway, thought you guys deserved a 5 star because you follow the rules and didn't try to overcharge me! I was just calling to see if all towing companies in town overcharge ppl like some of them do and you guys passed the test and your legit! Thank you for working an honest business!

Needed an alternator fixed and attempted to do it myself. Quickly realized I needed more tools than I had at college. Called and got it towed and fixed the same day. They were able to use the new alternator I bought. Towing and labor for ~$200. Happy to have the issue resolved quickly. Friendly staff, quality work. Would recommend to others!

First, they left my car in the wrong place at the dealership they were dropping it off at, so when I called the dealer, they said they didn't get my car and didn't get any keys in the drop box that day. So then when I called Don's to ask about the location of my car, the guy on the phone called me a liar and hung up on me! Horrible customer service! Then I find out the tow truck driver left my keys ON my car! Anyone could have stolen it! I called back to talk to the owner or a manager and they were unavailable and haven't called me back yet! Worst customer service I have ever experienced! Oh and I work at a customer service desk! That's my job! Edit: it's funny that the other reviews I read, you blame the customers for the bad service. I was not yelling, as I was at work myself and why would I call to ask about where my car was if the dealership hadn't told me they didn't have it? Then to hang up on me because I am concerned that the car I left in your possession is missing is absolutely horrible customer service. Just remember that bad reviews go far and best believe that I will be posting about my horrible customer service all over facebook! So if I save even one person from getting stuck using your awful business, it has been worth it!

This place is a complete joke! The “owner” is a horrible woman who doesn’t understand that her overcharging college students is inhumane. My daughter was charged over $500 to have her car towed 1/2 mile away!!!! Highway Robbery! I hope karma gets her and her so called business! Oh she has pictures of her parking.! I’m happy to share the pictures of her parking! I hope you feel good about preying on poor college students.

I appreciate the fast service even with the initial complications on my part, which I apologize for still. But I was told my battery was dead by them despite buying it three weeks ago from an auto store and having the store install it. I asked for my battery back to try and return it after Don's installed the new one and the auto store tested it and showed it to be working perfectly fine- so I can't return it. I feel lied to about my battery and I wasted money when my old battery was perfectly FINE, and I don't even know if my car is truly fine now or not. Thanks for the tow, but that's it.

No surprise that when I checked the YELP reviews for Don's that it is as bad as it is. I wish I would have checked before I called. As others have said, if I could rate them a 0 I would. They are in a College town and my son was parked at a friend's apartment complex, in one of his friend's spots, and his car was towed. The fact that it was towed could probably be argued that he could have gotten a warning but that is not the issue. He also got charged an additional $25 for storage, on top of the $200+ towing fee. He picked the vehicle up and paid the fees within hours, there was no "storage". I called, on his behalf, to see if he could get the $25 back. I was told that as soon as it passes their gate, the fee starts. I said that $25 is a lot to a college kid and I thought it was a bad business practice! The woman on the phone went crazy and yelled at me and was a complete "female dog"! I can't imagine anyone, that gets their car impounded being happy but I wasn't even arguing that fact, it was the additional storage fee when there was no storage. She was out of line an unprofessional. The other reviews were mainly on repair work or scheduled towing service so it seems they don't do anything right and the people answering there phones need some lessons in customer service! DO NOT do business with them for any reason. If forced, like we were, continue to complain until they are out of business! It seems my friends at Don's like to reply to Google reviews but never take any blame or apologize for the problems that they have. It was established in my, initial review, that my son parked in a spot of a friend's at his apartment that was a towable expense. That was not my complaint so now it seems as though reading and comprehension are also an issue at Don's. My problem is the additional $25 for storage as there was no "storage" involved. The female answering the phone was rude and has ZERO customer service skills! Every bad review, which most are, site your customer service skills as the problem. But, keep blaming the people with reviews for your problems, that will certainly help.

Below this paragraph is the review I left earlier and believe it or not, within hours of posting it, we received a call from Don's Towing. Was it to update us on our situation? No. Did she call to apologize for the miscommunication and terrible customer service that resulted in our review? No. She called us to whine about the review!! No, I'm not kidding.. I did realize I made a mistake earlier by blaming the miscommunication on the driver when it was actually someone from the office. After she called to whine about our review, she had the utter audacity to tell us to call her back once WE calmed down and could discuss it civilly. Really? I was calm until you expected us to pay twice what we were quoted. There are only a few things Don's Towing could do to redeem themselves in our eyes, but calling only to whine about a bad review is definitely not on that list. If you want a good review, earn it! Here's my honest scoring: Customer Service: -0 Honest Quotes: -0 Polite and Helpful Staff: -0 Original Post: After reading multiple negative reviews about this company, unfortunately only after attempting to do business with them, my first question is whatever happened to the saying, "the customer is always right?" Time & again, you have replied to legitimate complaints by posting private information that you are privy to, such as that a customer was in jail or what was found in their car, things you have no right to release. I've never heard of any other company doing something so shameful or remotely similar as the vindictive staff at Don's Towing. When I receive information from a company employee that is incorrect, the fault lies 100% with them. It was not my mistake and I've never been handed a booklet or referred to your website listing your policies, procedures and estimates or given any type of warning that I shouldn't rely on the words spoken by your employees and instead should expect to be lied to, ripped off and blamed for your companies miscommunication and misrepresentations with your company never accepting any of the well-deserved blame. Well, if you won't accept responsibility for your actions, inactions, mistruths and poor customer service, then why shouldn't our community be warned about your shady practices? We honestly believed we were given accurate information by your employee until you started tacking on extra (hidden) charges. Now, like many customers before us, you are essentially holding our only vehicle hostage. We could afford to pay the amount quoted to us by your employee, but now you are holding our vehicle hostage since we can't afford the surprisingly high new charges that are only increasing by the day. As soon as we questioned the significant difference between what we were quoted and charged, the office staff immediately became rude, condescending and refused to even acknowledge or look into our claims. Bottom line is do not trust quotes and estimates provided by any member of their staff unless it's in writing or you have a few extra hundred dollars lying around to pay their ransom. Do not expect to be treated with respect by the office staff and definitely do not expect that they will honor the prices quoted to you by anyone over the phone. However, if you want them to call you back ASAP, just leave a less than stellar review and they will definitely call you immediately after reading it. Maybe they were once famous locally for honesty and providing some semblance of decent customer service, but over the last several years, they have become more famous for providing misleading estimates, employing rude staff who have no qualms about publically posting/exposing private customer information they were privy to only in the course of business in retaliation for bad reviews and ripping off the life-long residents as well as the visiting college students who make up our community. They really have no one to blame but themselves.

I broke down on the side of the road. Don's was there first. My vehicle was treated with respect during tow etc, I knew my car was in good hands while stressed out. They found out it was the transmission. They gave me options and didn't make me feel pressured to spend more. The car runs perfect, I got it back cleaner than when they towed it somehow. Lol 10/10 customer service 10/10 tow 10/10 repair Thank you

My daughter had a dead battery and after failing to get it jumped, called Don's as they had service van's available per their website. She called them and they told her they would need to tow her car to the shop ($121.52), do a diagnostic for $109.95 (they checked for a blown fuse) and then they replaced the battery along with a $54.98 charge to install it. I called and spoke with Rachel the manager and they were not willing to negotiate to a more reasonable bill. Be careful if you use Don's as they will pad their bill and take advantage of people who are naive about car repairs.

The gals in front office are terrible at communicating and extremely rude. Do not recommend this company! They take advantage of the college age kids in that town. They did bait and switch on us with pricing. My son lives and works downtown LaCrosse so walks to work and rarely has the need to use his vehicle. He was not aware of the City ordinance indicating you need to move it every 48hrs. The LaCrosse PD did have it towed but was super helpful and understanding when communicating with them. The La Crosse police department even tried to call on our behalf to help rectify the situation with Dons towing and he called back saying they were unreasonable.

My husband sold a car back in March on Marketplace. Apparently, the guy who bought it was not a good person. He never registered the car, left it in our name, and dumped the car on the side of the road. We received a bill from Don’s Towing for $1,635 and change. When I called and spoke to Amanda she was so patient and kind. We had just paid $2,000 to fix our own actual car and we did not have the money to pay this. She walked me through it, helped me with the problem at hand, and told us to call her anytime if we make a sale in the future. She also educated me on all the steps to take to seek a car so we don’t get out in this predicament again. Thank you Amanda and Don’s Towing for understanding and helping us through a very dark situation. You have gained a customer for life and I will share this story 1000 times over. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of a very grateful heart!

I got into an accident and they were called. When the driver came, he said AAA did not cover it (it my first accident, I didn't know I should've called AAA.) A few days later I go to give them my car for scrap. And the lady gives me an oil change card (thank you for the card I can't use because I don't have a car.) The people are nice, but they for sure cheated me, because they only gave me $50 for scrap. Anyway, the next day I return to take my stuff out, and my stereo is gone. I ask them about it and they said they would look at security footage. Several times, about 3 or 4, they said I should come back to see if they found anything, they said nothing new (so I drove there for no reason a few times).

Awful experience! My husband got in an argument with the guy that picked up his car. I calmly called the guy back and explained my husband has anxiety and apologized. The guy then made a hand sized dent in my husband's car prior to taking pictures of it. Now we have no proof but will be talking to an attorney. Please don't trust these people with your vehicle.

Came to La Crosse to pick up my vehicle that my son had used to move himself into his house near campus. The vehicle was parked behind his house where the maintenance supervisor of the property management company indicated they could park. Late Saturday evening, my son looked out and the car was gone. A sign was posted three properties over with Don's Towing listed, so he called to find out that he had been towed, and that he could pick up the vehicle on Sunday between 9am and 1pm. We've straightened out things with the property management company, and will be reimbursed for the towing charge from them, but what hasn't been rectified is the damage done to my vehicle by Don's Towing. Before I paid I insisted that I inspect the vehicle, as my BMW 328xi has low ground clearance, and the manufacturer's recommendation is that this all wheel drive vehicle be flatbed towed, or towed from the front with a dolly on the rear wheels. My vehicle was towed from the rear with the front dolly'd. The lower edge of the bumper is scuffed, which is the damage I was initially concerned with. They took photos and told me to call Steve, their towing Manager, during the week. I called on Tuesday September 25th and he said that he needed to see the car, not the pictures the owner indicated their employee take. I live in the Appleton area and do not plan to be back in La Crosse for Months. Since driving the vehicle back to Appleton, I have a noise from the suspension that wasn't there before. Towing a Multi-Link rear suspension vehicle from the rear is NOT recommended, and I now have another problem to diagnose and repair. And I an sure the bumper cover wasn't damaged as I personally had replaced the bumper in July, and again inspected it in August when I replaced the right front air duct that cools the brakes, as I had to r&r the bumper to install. My question is why din't they tow the second vehicle that was parked back there? and in the picture, you will see the property management company parked under Don's towing sign, as well as a city of La Crosse Police car, and I'll bet they have never been towed! I will be looking into my options to recuperate for damages, as well as investigate with the city if there is proper permitting for the sign advertising Don's towing posted three properties away.
