Never did find out what diagnostic techniques were used to diagnose a blown engine in my vehicle. I'm not convinced that I need to junk it or sell it to them for $500 when I had just bought it for $4300 a few months ago and drove it less than 5 times. I wouldn't mind knowing how they come to that exact conclusion. Weather it be by eyeball and sniff test, or if they added computer testing and a process of elimination by adding gasoline or purging the lines and then adding gasoline and running the vehicle to hear it, test it, drive it? I have no idea what protocol even is. Because I know that the eye and nose was used but other than that I don't think it was touched much at all after having it sit there for over a month.
Btw my engine wasn’t blown after all but unfortunately I still don’t have a vehicle because I got rid of it after a while w nobody to fix it but it got fixed real quick after they took it from me! Thanks for not looking at it real great and telling me the wrong diagnosis of the vehicle and offering me a whole $500 for a 2008 GMC Acadia slt2 that began with the problem of needing a new positive battery cable connection! I missed all this time of working and being able to support my son and to keep a roof over our heads, clothes on his back and food in his mouth! Ur diagnosis and laziness and low ball whacked out offer was bogus and has ruined my life along w everything else so thanks for not putting in the effort to help a single widowed mother whom doesn’t have a vehicle or money and can’t get to work because of your nonsense of a diagnosis on a vehicle you had never even looked at! Never will I ever bring a thing there ever again if I were to ever be able to buy another vehicle with no money because that’s what I have is nothing and pretty soon no house too thanks to you and your stupidity about cars! And I will tell everyone what a kind of knowledge you lack there! Not fair how you see a woman and automatically think you can screw her over! The engine wasn't blown, it was just a battery connection that was bad! I'm so furious that someone would hold on to a vehicle for so long and never inspect it correctly or at all before giving a bogus diagnosis. I did drive it home too! I'm sad I had no one to trust to tell me the facts about it! Not sure why anyone would want to pay for a service not given especially for those prices!
Chester replaced some parts on the front end of my truck for way less than the other guy in town. Did an excellent job. My wife took her SUV in to him for an oil change. $30 less than the dealership. I had my oil changed in my truck yesterday and was charged $30 less than the other guy. Very impressed with the work and value. Won't go anywhere else.
I can't say enough good things. I'm a part-time van-lifer traveling in a converted ambulance, a big diesel International 4300. I broke down in Cross Plains. Chester came and took a look and had me diagnosed in 10 minutes. I limped my truck the few blocks there. Chester ordered the part I needed and had me up and running the next day. Cost was more than reasonable.
He squeezed me in and got me back on the road. Super competent. Honest. Reasonable. And beyond kind. Just a great guy running a quality and honest shop. I will drive the extra miles to make it my regular garage.
They are a small business so it sometimes takes a few days to get an appointment but they always do a great job. The only people I trust with my vehicle.

Chester and Phil are highly knowledgeable with automotive repairs and service. Not uncommon for parking spots to be at a minimum here, I highly recommend them for all repairs!
Chester runs the best shop I've found. Like most, I feel like I've been jerked around by a lot of mechanics but Chester's main concern is keeping his customers happy. Vehicles are insanely complex so repairing them is never straight forward, but I'm very happy with his ability to solve problems and his genuine interest in my satisfaction.
Strange noise suddenly. Turned out to be cool spring breakage. Chester took my car and in less than a day had both potentially life threatening fixes done the same day. Completely accurate estimate. So thankful.
Brought my vehicle in because my batteries were dying. Was charged $150 to “tweak my alarm system” which didn’t fix the issue. Brought the vehicle back 2 more times for them to find out it was the alternator, a week and a half and $450 later I got my vehicle back. Not very satisfied with the timeliness and communication of this shop.
After having my transmission go out on a large work truck on Highway 14 Chester and Ginger came highly recommended. I found them to be extremely honest, skilled, and pleasant. Even though they are located about 30 miles from my place of business, I am driving my vehicles to them in the future for maintenance and repairs. I could not recommend them more highly.
Really awesome place. I typically do all my own work that I can on my vehicles for many reasons but I trust these guys 100% to do it. You get top notch service and respect from these guys for you and your vehicle. It's really nice having someone you can trust to do the work.

I moved to Madison a few years ago and had to find a new mechanic. A friend said they went here so I took my car here as well. I've been taking every vehicle I've owned since here. They always do great work and are always willing to answer any and all questions. Although usually be prepared for a 1-2 week wait because they are usually pretty busy. Prices have always been great and once they have your car they seem to fix it pretty quick.
I highly recommend Chester and his service. I popped in on Saturday morning to have my engine looked at on my Mazda CX-7 after the "check engine" light came on. He was already booked up but graciously took a few minutes to do a basic diagnostic check to see if he could spot any major issues. Then, he didn't even charge me. Just a handshake and "Have a great day". Great guy. It's good to know we have someone like this close by. We will be back!
Finally, an honest hard working local mechanic that wants to see you again when you need help with your car. I just had my transmission lines replaced. A horrible job at best on an older car. I was quoted $730 at a repair facility near Costco in Middleton. I felt that was a huge rip-off. Cross Plains Motors, a modern, new, hometown facility, did a very professional job quickly and efficiently for $310. They are located at 1401 Bourbon Road in Cross Plains. Ginger works the counter and was very helpful and friendly. I discussed the problem with Chester the owner. He offered a lesser expensive short term repair and a long term complete repair. I opted for the long term complete repair. Phil did the work. It was my first satisfying experience with a mechanic in years. I used to do all my own mechanic work but at 70 I just can't get under cars anymore. Glad I found these people. I highly recommend them.
