Ohh if your passing through or just want to make the trip to see the Virginia Furnace and the Muddy Creek Falls!! It’s a must, especially the waterfall! It’s just absolutely beautiful and I’ve been coming to the area all my life and lots of family in that area! It’s just a gem to me!!
This is a neat place to stop and visit, you can explore the old furnace and see some beautiful waterfalls. There's also a few pavilions with picnic tables across the road if you want to stop and have lunch on your travels. There are two paths you can take down to it. One at each end of the wide spot.
We were here for the creek and the river, but this historical site is interesting too. It's neat to walk into the furnace and see the light streaming down from the top. A site I read said there was iron smelting in West Virginia since 1760.
