Great place to go in the winter. We went in February and it was a snowy wonderland! The roads and driveways to the cabins are paved and they were all 100% cleared of snow and ice. Cabin was heated and very clean. The only downside was that none of the hiking trails were cleared and the snow was solid ice so there was no way we would be able to hike- aside from seeing the lee house, that one was an easy short walk. We still had a great time sledding and cooking on the fire! There is also a really good pizza place right outside of the park.

It was a day trip to investigate, and that-we did. The result is we will make this gem of a park a regular and fit it into our routine!

I’d give it six stars if I could. This is truly an underrated gem! I’m gonna be telling everyone I know about this place. I stayed in Cabin 16. Great Wi-fi, great kitchen, great furniture, amazing bathroom and shower. There is enough space for a lot more than the one other person I brought. I will be coming back. I can’t wait to hike and mountain bike more here.

What a beautiful hike with stunning views. It is a little steep going to the top but not that hard. The trails are very well kept and well marked. This is definitely one of best hikes we have done! This park has beautiful cabins, a big swimming pool, archery, disc golf course, and beautiful trails.

Great! While staying at the Massanutten Resort in VA, we drove to WV to experience something other than the trails of the Shenandoah NP. We weren't disappointed. From the turnoff at Mathias Cabin and the winding approach to its entrance, you just anticipated an iconic state park experience. We didn't venture far into the park as the first road to right led us to our trailhead and parking area. At the time there was any signage but a kiosk was a under construction. The must do destination is Cranny Crow Lookout. There are two stables, so one can make it there by horse, or hike like we did. Starting at White Oak Trail we steadily climbed on narrow-cut paths, using switchbacks to move through the a scattered remnant blackened tree trunks. Evidently from a fire that had swept over the mountainside sometime in the past. The panoramic view from the overlook was spectacular, providing vistas of West Virginia and even Virginia ridges and valleys. Beyond the shelter is the trail leading down the backside called Miller's Rock Trail. This is beautiful and really enjoyable trail with ridge overlooks and views of Cheeks Rocks. Turn left at the juncture for the Virginia View Trail and traverse the backside of the mountain until Big Ridge Trail. Turn right and continue down until to arrive back at the starting point. 6 miles of steady, moderate walking. It was really a great day outside and on the trails.

Great cabin! I appreciated the modern conveniences and also having a fireplace with ample firewood included. Amazing hiking trails, friendly staff, quiet woods, and no cell signal! Wi-Fi is included but we loved the disconnected getaway.

Fantastic weekend in Lost River. They have wonderful cabins you can rent with modern bathrooms and kitchens. They give you firewood. Great weekend away with the family, and some cabins are pet-friendly.

We rented a legacy cabin for 2 nights in early September. We'll kept park with lots of picnic options. The whole reason we booked this stay was to visit Cranny Crow overlook, and it did not disappoint. The trail was pretty steep on the way up (a little less than 2 miles), but the view was worth it. We also thoroughly enjoyed the pizza joint just a couple of miles outside of the park entrance. We will come back.

Absolutely beautiful. The park is very well kept. The sites are private and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. Overall this park is a must!

This park is a great place to go and unplug, the cabins have wifi, but cellphones are out of range here. The park offers rustic legacy log cabins and more modern cabins, a few of them allow pets. There are many playgrounds, a nature center and gift store at Park HQ which sells ice and snacks, an outdoor pool (across from Cabin one) volleyball pit, hiking, horse stables nearby. Each cabin comes with a rocking chair, picnic table, fire ring, rustic benches or chairs, a kerosene oil lamp, living room witj chairs and couch, table for 4, fully outfitted kitchen with gas stove, updated bathrooms with plush towels, linens, broom, mop, iron & ironing board, fireplace, and a bundle of firewood for each day of your stay. This is a great place for a family reunion or social group to get together for a few days on the country.

Great Park to explore for a day. A ton of hiking trails ranging from easy to difficult. Download your map before you get here, phone reception is limited. Admission and parking are free, views are priceless!

MOTORCYCLE RIDE! Wow, some serious technical riding found here. Multiple 180° turns. The twisty mountain roads are gorgeous and nature is lush and beautiful. Will come back for some hiking and exploring.

Our second time here staying at a "classic" cabin. This park is top notch - the grounds and buildings well taken care of, employees friendly, etc. We really enjoy the hiking - several beautiful loops that you can extend or shorten, with beautiful views, and a couple of lean-tos for resting. The best thing for me was how quiet and peaceful it is - with lots and lots of bird song, including whippoorwills and owls. My Merlin app picked up 14 species in 30 seconds at our cabin.

I went on a day trip here with a local car club. The drive there was extremely fun with our sports cars and the twisty roads. One of the members wanted to climb the 2 mile route to the lookout at the top. I did not learn this until we parked. I had not worn the right kind of shoes for that and so destroyed them on the climb up and back down. It was the most exhausting climb/hike of my life. Oh, it was also raining and I had no protection other than my leather jacket which got soaked to the bone and added 20lbs. I was miserable and it took hours to climb. But, it gave me one of the best memories of my life. Would absolutely recommend. Might rent one of their horses to make the climb next time as that was a very surprising option! Beautiful place.

Great scenic views and the trail leading to the lookout cabin was awesome. Nice picnic areas with heated bathrooms..a plus!

Well maintained park and cabins. Our dog loved it too! So quiet, even the most popular hike to Cranny Crow overlook was thin on people. Great escape from busy civilization.

This place was a hidden beauty. The cabins were perfectly furnished for a wildlife retreat with all the comforts of home. It was affordable and offered easy access to several more beautiful sites

This is a stunning state park. I live a few hours away but still make the trip down several times a year to come and revel in its peacefulness. It's not the biggest park in the world but it's very pretty, has great if challenging trails, especially to the overlook across the five counties. There was a major fire in the area recently and you can see the damage in the woods, but it doesn't detract from the beauty of the area. It will be interesting to see how the burnt areas will recover. If you like horse riding there's also a stable onsite that you can book a ride up the trails.

Mostly seems for horseback riding. The trails are not super well marked and are covered in horse manure. They are easy to moderate with not much to look at. Seems the fire got a lot of it. Can't say I would return for a hike anytime soon. The Cranny Crow overlook is a great site but the elevation is still pretty low overall. There is a nice little WV theme swing and sign up there to take a photo with. Ample parking, but the trail heads are pretty far from the lots and require walking on the main road to get to.

This park was clean and beautiful! The hike was a great challenge as it had a pretty decent incline alll the way up. Trails were well marked and there were some shortcuts from foot traffic that you could see! The hike was well worth it when you reached the top to see the amazing view. An #almostheaven swing was waiting at the top, which was a nice surprise because it was the first one I’ve seen!

We came for the "Almost Heaven Swing". It was a hefty 2.5 mile hike up the side of a mountain ?️ that we weren't ready for, but when we finally got to the top the view was amazing! It was absolutely breathtaking. If you are in shape for the hike, I highly recommend taking the trek and enjoying the wonderful view.

We stayed in their 4-bedroom pet-friendly cabin for the weekend, and it was truly a home away from home. Nice bathroom/shower, all of the utensils and cookware/dishes we needed, and excellent air conditioning. There was a charcoal-only grill on the deck and several different deck chairs, as well as a fire ring in the yard. And WiFi with a smart TV. I enjoyed both of the activities I attended, and the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The beat part is that it wasn't overcrowded.

Absolutely gorgeous mountains, hiking trails, and fall foliage! Keep in mind that all those mountains are great barriers for signals... but the visitor center does have accessible WiFi that works even from the parking lot and part of the grassy area out in front!

Just came back from a 4 day stay at lost river at state park. We love it there. We stay there twice a year. Once in late spring and again on the fall. We hike the tails and relax in the comfortable cabins. We bring our dog and she loves the hikes as well. I highly recommend lost river to anyone who wants to unplug, unwind and find peace.

Everything was fantastic! The cabin we stayed in was really nice and well equipped. The mattress in there was so comfortable we had to look who made it. The trails were well maintained and all the staff were very helpful and nice. There are some fantastic local businesses near by including The Butcher Block that is completely worth the trip. I don't know if all West Virginia state parks are this great or just this one but I'll find out soon. 11 out of 10
