What clients say about The RE Store in Bellingham (WA)

Pros: This is a pretty big place with defined sections that make it an easy place to shop or just browse for ideas. I like the rustic feel of the place as well as the friendly, helpful staff. I also appreciate it's casual style and that it's not arranged in a sterile and 'perfect' nature so I get that tactile experience I enjoy (not like some places that itemize or label every nail or piece of string). It supports a system that keeps prices fair and the shopping experience pleasant. Cons: As great as the store is, there are definitely logistic issues and navigational challenges that anyone not familiar with the atea may struggle with. For anyone traveling here for the first time, I suggest using a good and current GPS that 1) directs you thru strangely-oriented streets to the store and 2) helps you find parking! When I visited on Dec 18, 3035, I hadn't been to Bellingham in about 15 years and I'd forgotten how convoluted, disorienting, and cramped the streets can feel. Another con was the front sidewalk. This is an odd thing to post in a review, but it is not level with the store but leans towards the very active street out front. I feel anyone with any existing disorientation or mobility issues, especially, should take special care along that area. I am a fit & activr F 62yo, but even I stopped and went, "whoa!" when I took my first steps out the door onto the sidewalk. This is likely a city issue (not a store issue), so just be aware of it (or maybe ask to go in a different entrance if needed). All-in-all, this is a great supply store for repurposed items, which is a concept I support wholeheartedly. I think its important to put old things to good use, and even better if it can be facilitated at a reasonable cost and with a smile.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Josh at Habitat for Humanity in Bellingham was fantastic! He took the time to help us find the perfect chandelier and really understood what we were looking for. His knowledge, patience, and friendly attitude made the whole experience easy and enjoyable. Thanks to Josh, we left with exactly what we needed. Highly recommend stopping by and asking for him—great service!

Definitely 5 stars. Too much stuff to look at. Need fire sale to help lower inventory. Some donated items too pricey

The RE Store has so many incredible things. Excellent deals and rotating stock. If you do DIY, this should be your first stop. Today I got a bunch of different tiles for a mosaic. Such a deal!

I have shopped here since they opened, about 30 years ago, snd have always found them to be polite, very helpful, easy going and interested in giving a good deal. I’ve saved a lot of money on good materials here!

This is easily the best recycled building material store I've ever been to. They have lumber, trim, plumbing fixtures, windows, doors and lighting fixtures. They even have a used tool section! I started shopping here ~25 years ago when I worked as a remodel carpenter, and I am elated to see them expanded and doing so well after all these years. They are very well organized, with windows/doors separated by size and construction, and even have maps showing where to find specific configurations/sizes. Bonus: they now have 2 adorable cats to gawk at and enhance your shopping experience. Thank you ReStore for helping keep so much useful stuff out of our landfills and providing quality discounted materials to those smart enough to shop here.

Brook at the Restore went above and beyond with her customer service! She was very happy to help and very polite! She make sure all of our questions were answered and called us back right away. Thank you!

The prices are on par with what items cost new at Lowe's. Example: They wanted $109 for a toilet used and Lowe's had same one for $94 new. Even the scrap wood is pricey. They used to give discounts when items were there for a few months, but I constantly find new price labels stuck the old labels. They also seem to be focusing more on taking the donations they receive and making arts and crafts with them and then trying to sell those items at a high mark up. This kinda defeats the purpose of shopping there if they take all the cool stuff. Oh well. I just miss the re-store of old.

Wonderful store to get vintage house stuff. Friendly staff and reasonable prices.

This place is incredible, great for remodels, great for staging equipment in the entertainment industry, I love it and the person working behind the counter who had been there for 13 years had exceptional customer service skulls. Thank you for being in business and I hope you guys stick around for many more years/ decades. lol

sadly bought an antique door that is contaminated with lead paint. after working hard on one side of the door to get rid of the old chipping paint, it occurred to me to get the paint tested for lead. it is indeed covered in lead paint. very disappointed that the restore would profit off unsafe items. taking the door to the junk yard. i contacted restore and asked for a call back, haven’t received one yet. i guess it makes sense items in their store would be covered in lead paint considering these old homes around here in bellingham. careful, don’t buy items with paint on them from the restore.

The REStore is a disgrace to legit non profits everywhere. They pay no Federal Sales tax yet see no issue censuring my non-violent right to Freedom of Expression. Careful shoppers: if the Management decides you are being critical of REStore operations/ employee performance you may get banned...I'm not the only one. Ask around. I shopped at the REStore for over 20 years. My being banned and threatened with trespass if I stepped on the property is due to an REStore employee overhearing part of a private conversation where I criticized REStore hiring policies. I defended myself. Now I've been labeled a threat to employee safety. For real! No joke! I guess the snowflakes can't take the heat...gotta keep everything nice and cool around there so they don't melt.

Anyone and everyone who has ever worked here should be ashamed. This place was yelling at their customers. They receive donations from the community and when someone goes to buy something they start bargaining the price to go higher and higher! Rip off and soul less business. Disgusting.

I love killing time at this place. It’s been the same way for over 20 years at least, so unique and fun. Used tools and lots of miscellaneous building materials. It’s a great place to find those oddball items that you just don’t find in mainstream box stores, thrift stores or even habitat for humanity stores. This is a one of a kind Re-Store, particularly special, as it’s so representative of Bellingham and the community of shoppers who live here and support it.

This place has to much junk packed into a small place. Everything I come here I leave and go directly to Lowes where I can buy what I need for 10% more brand new. Try reducing your pricing and maybe you'll actually move some product. There are horrifically priced item that I have been walking past during every visit in the past 4 years. Company is just a cesspool of inept people.

I want to have a cot there so I can always keep up with the great stuff coming in the door. Every time I go there I find something that I can use for my projects and art. Spent a lot of time today going through the furniture and accessories that they build in house from the materials that come in. Absolutely beautiful and very creative.

Absolutely love visiting this store at least once weekly. My wife and I do home projects and find it better than the big box stores. Please consider using this store instead of buying new. So much character in older items. They beg for a new home plus it helps the environment.

I hadn't been to the Te Store in a couple 3 yrs. Today was another rainy day off and I'm sick of inside projects so I thought, hey Are Store! I'm designing a covered gardening work table and a storage bench/plant stand/planter box thing??? While I'm in the lumber area I found I was redesigning as I find things I didn't even thought of. Well I brought home everything I needed tovnot only complete the 2 projects but enough to also build an awning over front and back doors. For under $80! I'll take pics of the projects as they're completed and post them. Thanks ReStore!

great selection second hand. there is some really fun repurposed items too. i got a lampshade for an antique lamp and it’s something i’ve been looking for for months. was happy to find a shade and nearly dropped some cash on some of the made items 🤫🤫 even if you’re not into DIY, this is a really fun store to look around and get inspired

The RE Store use to be a great place to go find treasures, but over time, those treasures are costing more, so much so, that some times it's better to buy it new. What I don't understand more than anything is why do they still insist on full on mask usage. Maybe they didn't get the message, but there state has relaxed the requirement for mask. Everyone around them is requesting a mask for those who haven't been vaccinated, and I think we should all be able to agree on this, but getting vaccinated and then having to continue using a mask is plain and simple stupid and over reach and narsatidtic. Maybe we need to stop supporting those businesses that can't treat is as adults. I know I'm no longer going to support them.

I could spend hours at this place. If you are a DIYr, then you must check it out. It's surprisingly organized and busy. I was among a dozen or so other shoppers who showed up a half hour before opening time jockeying for a position. They open at 11:00, not 10:00 like many think. Here is the problem with this place, as I saw it. The guys that work there see this stuff as garbage, where I see it as treasure. I was there to pick up a walk in shower stall, of which they had 10 of. Each one had a bit of damage, usually just on the nailing flange. I meticulously checked one with the correct plumbing orientation to be sure there were no cracks within the shower stall itself. With the employee waiting, obviously annoyed, for the ten minutes it took me to make my selection because they were stored upstairs in a limited access area. Once I made my selection, I was instructed to go down and pay for it. As I was descending the stairs I could hear the guy very roughly slamming the stalls around, as he was alone to move it out. They fork lifted it down, put it on my truck and I strapped it down. But when I got it home I saw there was a dime sized crack right in the floor corner, probably happened while the guy was slamming it around. It was brand new but dusty and the crack was right in the clean mark my finger made as I was running it along to check for cracks, so I know it wasn't there when I checked. It's very disappointing but I'm not driving an hour back to argue with them about it. I'm hoping I can repair it. I only paid $150 for it. They retail for around $800. A real treasure. Too bad it was treated like garbage.

It's always a fun adventure to visit the Re Store. They don't always have what I'm looking for, but they always have a lot of stuff, and are constantly adding new product. The staff is friendly and helpful. Items are categorized very well. Parking on the store lot is limited, but there is street parking near.

A good place to give any used item another life rather than seeing it at the land fill. Let's face it, many items do not have the be new to be useful. If you need a small piece of sheetrock, are you really going to buy a 4'x8' sheet and dump the rest? You will still have to paint it anyways. If your socket collection is missing the ⅜" size are you buying a new set? The low price is another compelling reason to consider this place. Excellent alternative to the big box stores.

Great experience here! I went in to get a pair of safety goggles for my boyfriend. originally they were priced at $3 but because of their 20% off sale they were only going to be $0.43. since it would have cost me $0.50 to use my card and that's all I had on me the wonderful lady behind the counter just let me take them and it totally saved my day!!!! Recycling items like this is such a wonderful thing!

This place is so great! They have everything from flooring materials to marble counter tops, light fixtures, doors, and cabinets...you name it. I went there looking for window shades. I found the perfect size for 2 bedrooms. One of the volunteers helped me find the right hardware to install them. The price was a fraction of what they would have cost new. There is also free parking in the back of the building.

Glad they are getting product in but when you can't get to things.. Ie sinks because of all the sinks on the ground around the others.. You can't see price on doors because of all the doors leaning on display for doors. Just wanted to add that we love the Restore! We have normally been able to find everything we are looking for. This past trip really threw us for a loop as we have never had that hard of a time.

It can be a little jumbled and hard to navigate at first. Some might find it even overwhelming but once you get the basic layout it's a fun place to shop and save some money! You never know what treasure you will find just around the next corner! The staff all seem happy and are always friendly and very helpful.

You never know what you’ll find at the Restore.it is extremely popular with locals so it can be difficult to find great things there, but it does happen. The pricing can be hit or miss. I’ve found bargains and overpriced items on the same visit. If you donate to them you can get a tax deductible donation or you can decide to get a percentage of your donation back as credit (like consignment). I think they do good work saving usable items from the landfill, and are worth a visit.

We have been 'shopping' (and donating) at RE Store for several years, and over those years have bought a great number things, especially for our shop. Yes, some of their items are priced quite high, but the majority we found to be well priced - so we buy. And if the item has been there for months, we can sometimes negotiate a lower price that works for everyone involved. Regarding employees, we have found 99% of them to be very helpful, whether buying or donating. I go in almost every week, and almost without fail, help is available when I ask, sometimes beyond the call of duty! My wife and I agree that they are equal to, or even better than, much of the private sector business employees that we typically encounter.

I love all re stores but this one is fun to go to. I'm not a local so I don't usually buy too much at this location. However this one always have really old items. They keep a bunch of vintage packaging on the top shelf across from the cashier. They are really neat to look at. This last time I went they had a working Edison turntable with a horn.
