Such a cool mill from 1910! It was used to saw lumber and crush corn. It had a blacksmith building and a sewing loom in another. It was all locked up. Amazing trees and scenery. Glad the history is being preserved!

Beautiful place. We've been there in the spring and now fall. Chilly but still really nice

It was closed up. Portable toilets outside were dirty. Looked up hours and they were posted as open. ??? But the short walk through was interesting.

This is a beautiful and historic water powered mill nestled along the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The mill itself is easily accessible from the parking area. Sometimes the mill building itself is open to the public making for an informative and memorable experience. There are nice bathrooms and a gift shop here as well.

What a bucolic setting this stop on the BRP offers. Although the visitor's center was open, there were no tours of this collection of historical buildings and implements because of the Fed government shutdown and subsequent furlough of the park rangers! During the busiest time for visitors -- leaf-peeper season -- there were only a handful of visitor's wandering the property, reading the signs, and trying to see inside the locked up mill, blacksmith shop and homestead. We saw the place but didn't really experience it, but it was still worth the stop.

Such a serene and beautiful setting! You can just imagine the time this mill was in use. Great interpretive signs and scenes throughout, like this one of a moonshine still along the creek. I made a point to make it here before dark and so glad I did!

Still needs pond dug out but the water wheel works and it has a new roof! Thank you to those that wrote letters for the work to be done and the funding to keep it open!!

Mabry Mill is right on the Blue Ridge Parkway, a short drive from Floyd, Virginia. Ample parking with some long spaces for RVs. The mill is very picturesque, there is a blacksmith on site along with other artisans. There was a park official in the mill describing its operation and asking questions. The water wheel was turning but not powering anything at the time.

We absolutely loved our visit to Mabry Mill. Park rangers and volunteers made history come alive. We especially enjoyed watching at the blacksmith shop plus dulcimer/ fiddle maker was quite the story teller. We are happy to see the mill running again and appreciate all the hard work that goes into preserving this beautiful piece of local history off the Blue Ridge parkway. Keep up the good work!

This is the only mill we've visited that has multiple water troughs- very interesting. We met a lady who spins wool into skeins. They also have people who do weaving, caning, and blacksmithy work on various days. Not a lot of walking, very picturesque.

I think this is one of the premier stops on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The old mill is picturesque and many opportunities for some great photos of this stop on the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you’re driving the parkway you’ll find this a fine stop a nice place to relax and enjoy the sounds of the old mill in the creeks that feed it.There’s plenty of parking here and of course it’s free. Last time I visited Mabry Mill was c 1972. Like all of us fifty plus years later, we look weathered. Restaurant no longer operational however gift shop was open. Two Porta potties on site but take your own tissue (you're welcome ?) in event not recently stocked.

Such a beautiful site right by the road. The site it's a trip back one or 2 centuries. The mill it's still operational. Beautiful pathways around the site and a beautiful water stream and viaducts. Free entrance and suficient parking. One hour it's more then enough to stroll around

Many of these old mills are nothing more than a sign by the side of the road, not this one! This is a completely functional mill, with grist mill, sawmill, and woodworking shop all run by the same main waterwheel. If you want to show the kids how things were done "back in the day", this is the place for you. Get here soon, before DOGE decides it's a waste of money, and clises it down. And it's FREE!! Bummed out that the restaurant wasn't open, though.

Historical beauty! A great spot for a beautiful stroll directly off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can even see an old moonshine location!

Beautiful area on the Blue Ridge Parkway just south of Meadows of Dan, VA. Great place for a short visit to explore and learn. Like many of the beautiful parks in the US, it appears that there may be staffing shortages because of budget cuts as the welcome and info center were closed. Bathrooms were still available but in Porta Potties. Even with the info center not available there was adequate signage with history and details to make the stop very worthwhile!

This is an excellent place to stop for a short walk and a safety break. The sun was high and hot so the photos don’t accurately convey the serenity and comfort you can feel here. The shady knolls and small coves and nooks around the mill are cool spots to linger and relax.

Came to see the fall leaves. Looks like I came a little too late. I can't complain too much since there is no cover charge. It is one of the most photographic places on the parkway. Nice place to visit when you're in the area.

Beautiful piece of history to visit- highly recommend. However, the parks service does not seem to be maintaining it as well as it used to which is a shame as it's a popular attraction. They no longer sell grits and cornmeal and the restaurant has closed- they used to have the best pancakes I've ever had! (Photos included are from 2024, 2018 & 2014)

Our Airbnb was one mile from Mabry Mill which made a nice walk. The October air was perfect. The Mill is always enjoyable. The restaurant and gift shop were closed for unknown reasons.

A nice little morning or afternoon stop. One of those tucked away surprises with great scenery and interesting history. The area is open and you can enter and tour just about all parts of the buildings and the water wheel makes for great photo ops.

Worth visiting for the old beauty of the business. A short paved trail goes around the waterways that feed the mill. There’s an old wooden cabin and some iron tools displayed on the ground. The sound of the water and the chirping birds is amazing.

I got here early and had the place to myself. This is such a beautiful place. An amazing piece of history. I love these old mills. Close to Rt. 77 in Fancy Gap and Hillsville. One of the best spots on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

What an incredible memory!! We had been many years ago and wanted another visit since it was fall. The leaves were perfect. Set off the Blue Ridge Parkway, it was very busy. We put our names in for a TWO hour wait and toured the grounds. This gave us plenty of time to look into the mill and other buildings. Please consider visiting any time of the year. Operational mills are rare.
