What clients say about Mid Atlantic Towing in Newport News (VA)

Customer service rude, staff rude, unprofessional business. Staff refuse to state their name so I would be able to address them in a reasonable and professional manner. Mid Atlantic Towing, 12 Forrest Drive, Newport News, VA. Reporting my vehicle that was paid and retrieved on January 11, 2026, but they sent a notification to DMV stating there is a lien on the vehicle. Try speaking with someone who refuses to speak let alone providing me with answers to why they submitted this false claim to DMV. I have my receipt of the payment paid in full and have possession of my vehicle. They should not be allowed to be in business!

On January 28, 2026, my vehicle was wrongfully towed despite being in compliance with the apartment complex’s parking requirements. My vehicle had the required parking decal properly displayed on the driver-side rear door. Prior to this incident, I had been advised by the apartment complex that this placement was acceptable and properly displayed.
After discovering my vehicle had been towed, I contacted the towing company, who stated the vehicle was towed for not having a parking decal, even though the decal was visibly present. The towing company further claimed that decals are only permitted to be displayed on the front or back windshield, which directly contradicts what the apartment complex had previously advised.
Additionally, the apartment complex informed me that they did not authorize the towing company to tow vehicles at that time. Despite this, the towing company proceeded with towing not only my vehicle but also another resident’s vehicle without proper authorization.
Under Virginia law, including Virginia Code § 46.2-1231 and related towing and recovery statutes, towing from private property must be conducted in accordance with posted rules, proper authorization, and for valid violations. A vehicle that is in compliance with applicable parking requirements and not in violation of posted or agreed-upon policies is not subject to lawful removal.
Although I was initially told the towing fee would be approximately $175, this amount was ultimately not charged. However, the towing still caused significant inconvenience and time constraints.
After retrieving my vehicle, I took it to a mechanic due to concerns about possible damage from the tow. The mechanic advised that my vehicle’s alignment was off and there was visible curb rash.
As a result of this improper tow, I was delayed and unable to attend a scheduled medical appointment for chronic arm pain that morning.
Based on the above, the towing of my vehicle was unjustified and unauthorized and resulted in financial loss, inconvenience, and disruption to my medical care.Jan 30, 2026 -
Excellent service. Reasonable prices. Wrecked our car during the snow storm. They had a fast response. Things would have been a lot more difficult for me and my family without their help and amazing customer service.

Feel like my car is being targeted, this my second time being towed in the 6months of living in my neighborhood. There’s no way I’m getting towed for being doubled parked (not in my lease) but people here don’t have current inspection or registration(which is in our lease) & are not being towed. Then one guy got snappy when I asked for the towing standards. They’re stealing & I hope my complex chooses a different company in the future.

As far as tow companies go, mid atlantic is the lowest of the low. My car was towed from my complex at 4am. Our property allows us to park in front of the rental office during off hours. This company was told this last year and was forced to return several cars by the property manager. Apparently they cant read, write or listen. The guy on the phone said I was parked in front of the office in a fire zone. My car was the only one towed while three other cars where also parked. My mistake was making it easy because i was parked facing in the correct direction with traffic. Add lazy to the list. I went to pick imy car up around 10am and was told the cost was $270 while the sign on the property list the cost as $150. I explained to the guy what the sign stated and he shows me a sign attempting to prove his argument but it also listed $150. I paid the $150. They took my car knowing the rental office would be closed for MLK holiday and I would have to wait until Tuesday to have the manager contact them. I didnt want to wait because I have heard stories of residents missing items after their car was towed by mid atlantic. I will be filing a complaint with the AG office. Predatory and deceptive practices.

DIRT. BAGS! PREDATORS! Who TOWS a UHAUL at 5 am from an apartment complex? It's. A. UHAUL. Obviously, someone is moving? Luckily, it wasn't packed so there was nothing to steal, probably why they took it. But lost most of the day tracking it down, paying $175 to get it out of the yard, and fighting with the apartment complex that still hasn't reimbursed us for either of the 2 unlawful TOWS. Looking at you Springhouse!

0 stars. Back at riverbend apartments they illegally towed my ford after I was promised an extension and my property manager got it back to me free of charge. I know that sucked wasting you time lol. Now they towed another vehicle of mine at this apartment complex. They are running a Ponzi scheme by being PREDATORY on cars. Giving residents a temporary parking pass mowing we have a year lease and when it expired they towed right after Christmas . No warning sticker from anyone. I’m going to contact Va attorney general or anyone in that matter for this place improper towing which they have done before now it’s the second time

I wish there's zero star, the guy who open the gate for us to pick our car was very rude! If ever your car was towed make sure to make a video while checking the car because they open ours. They're so shady. And we pay $175.

What a joke of a towing service…. My neighbor and I called on Halloween night because there was 15 CARS parked at our apartment complex with no decals (which are required to park in the parking lot) also alongside behind the parking spots to where no one can pull in… clearly where it states NO PARKING and towing enforcement… this towing company never showed up and quit taking calls after 10 PM… what’s the point in being a towing service for a apartment complex and not doing your job

nobody wants to get towed it’s very frustrating but i will say Mr. Opei made things very easy for me!

Worst experience EVER. Lady at front desk is the most entitled, disrespectful and unprofessional person I've ever dealt with. She ask me for my ID to which i handed it to her and when i refused to dialog with her and said I just want my car, she threw it at me and threatened to call the cops because she felt "Threatened" by me for not talking. A guy named Bubba came and handled the situation more professionally but it was still the worst experience ever.

Who steals while towing?? They towed my little chevy tracker and had to bring it back, because it wasn't supposed to be towed in the first place. They brought it back, but they stole my catalytic converter. I didn't notice at first i thought it was something else. So be careful and check your vehicle when you get it back they steal parts.

Mid Atlantic snd employees are a whole joke I ended up paying $195 to get my car back and the sign CLEARLY SAYS $120 with a $40 storage fee didn’t even have my car “stored” for 5 hours before getting it back 2 different signs two different prices very misleading

Car was towed illegally from my own house. Now they want over 2000$ to get it back. So they stole my vehicle. It's fully paid off and all. Shady company beware. We will be removing them as the tow enforcement on our townhouse properties.

My car was towed from my complex due to my own fault of not parking in visitor. I called and spoked to Catherine and she was very respectful and helpful even stayed later after closing time & also made sure the paint was off the windshield from when they mark before leaving the lot! Also she communicated with me after with me sending her pictures to make sure I won’t get towed again .. please don’t let the reviews run you away! Yess you may have to pay but don’t be like me watch what you’re doing and read your signs!! Thank you Catherine.

I was passing through Newport News on the way to DC, and the battery on my Ducati Monster decided to die while I was taking a break... They quickly came out, and I was back on the road... Replaced it in DC...

Van was towed from apartment complex because vehicle was broken into and guest pass was stolen. Paid for the vehicle and called AAA for a tow home. They had over an hour before AAA arrived. I came after AAA arrived to sign a waiver and did that. They said they were going to get the vehicle out for AAA and 45 minutes later I received a call from the towing company for aaa and was told they have been waiting and can’t wait any longer and was going to leave. I then called mid Atlantic to see what was the hold up. I was told aaa driver was loading the vehicle. 2 hours later my vehicle still hasn’t arrived so I called mid Atlantic back to see if my van was still there, initially I was told the driver has the vehicle and then she said let me check and then came back to say no the vehicle is still here. I had to request another tow from aaa to get my vehicle which took another hour before dispatched. So shortly I was lied to multiple times had 4 hours wasted after they had my money. Bad business unprofessional communication and willing to say anything to get you off the phone. Most people will only deal with this company because they’ll try to steal your vehicle so they probably just don’t care about anything.

Took my car from a legal parking space at my town home on my first night here and tried to say it was because I was 6 inches over the line. I was dead center between the lines! They'll illegally tow your car and expect you to pay. Con artists. I hope they get banned from our property next as they prey on everyone. GET A REAL JOB!!!

I saw a lot of bad reviews so I just wanted to share my own experience I’m pretty sure everyone is just mad their vehicles got towed. I didn’t get anyones names but they were very helpful and friendly both times I came. They allowed me to retrieve items from my car with no hassle and then when i returned to retrieve my vehicle I was in and out with no problems. Thank y’all for the help

Beware!!! Predatory Towers! This company towed my Handy Man’s truck because he was parked in my front yard unloading material and ladders for a large job in my house. I live in a HOA and the bylaws state it must be parked for 24 hours and a written notice must be given before towing and he was only parked there for not even 2 hours!! No note or anything left. Violated the bylaws and was illegal towing. Will be taking legal action against them. After reading all of their horrible reviews I’m surprised they are still in business and not in jail!! They also damaged his truck. Please do yourself a favor a stay away from this company! They are the worst! They get zero stars but I had to give them one to be able to leave a review.

If I could give 0 I would. Ladies up front are super nice when you go pay, but they literally tow yer vehicle off yer own property, will cause damages no issue, and the guy I just spoke with threatened me multiple times. Because I refused to let him take my car. And told me I would be evicted even faster because I would not allow him to tow it. Disgusting. Mind you- it’s my home and my registration is expired. But I’m in the process of fixing the issues to get it paid. I just got the brakes done and it’s a car I got from Cali so it’s never been inspected. And to get the registration it has to pass. And my headlight is having electrical issues. But it’s a nice looking vehicle and doesn’t hurt anyone in any way and it’s my only vehicle. I’ve already paid once to get it out- its $120 plus $50 per day after that. Awful. I’ll let them tow my car when the dude who came here threatening me regrows his teeth.

I called this company today because they were recently contracted for my apartment complex and I had a few questions. The staff was exceptionally kind and answered each question without a problem. Although I did not officially use them for an actual job they were still willing to help me. Jeff was extremely nice when we crossed paths. The two ladies I spoke to today Sarah and Ashley were very helpful and sweet. If I do have a tow need I will be reaching out to this company for sure.

Very very pleasant people, my car was towed here after a bad wreck. As soon as I was discharged from the hospital, I came here to get my belongings out of the car. Everyone was very helpful and I didn't have any drama.

I didn't get a warning or a heads up of a new policy what so ever explaining that I can't park on my own property with an expired inspection sticker. Now I'm out $120 because they wanted to take my car hostage. They get one star because they are quick to get my car out.

My vehicle was towed illegally. They towed my vehicle when no signs were posted saying do not park or anything of that matter. When talking to them they were extremely rude and kept repeating that the car was parked illegally. After paying $125 to get the car I then went to take pictures of where it was parked, which no parking signs are posted. This company is not even a decent company where you can have a discussion, everything they have to say is very rude and disrespectful. It’s quite obvious that they need to work on their customer service aspect of running a company!

When you park in a visitor spot and they tow you but don’t tow the cars that have flat tires and haven’t moved in months despite being against the resident agreement
EDIT: not accredited by the BBB which says a lot and were rude on the phone
EDIT2: 9/9/22 did it again last night and towed a lot of other peoples’, who actually live here and had passes, cars. What’s the point of a parking pass if I’m still going to get towed. And they were rude yet again to my neighbor and to my husband.oh and don’t let them lie to you like they did us. They take card and cash. If your car has been there just overnight it should be $120Sep 09, 2022 -
Do not do business with them
My car was wrongfully towed from my apartment complex when I was on out of state leave for Christmas. When I called they informed me I needed a notarized letter for someone else to pick up my car. I sent the letter and called them twice to make sure of the price so I knew how much cash my friend needed to bring to pick up the car. They told me $181 dollars both times I called but when my friend arrived, suddenly the price jumped to almost $380 dollars. I spoke with the lady who was supposed to release my vehicle and she yelled at me that if I didn't have the cash in 12 minutes then she would just leave and auction off my car. Ultimately, I ended up paying the $380 dollars and got my car back but the entire experience was full of rude people trying to squeeze every last dollar out of me.
I recommend you take your business elsewhere.Mar 02, 2022 -
Like many reviews up here my experience was horrible with this company. My car was towed from my apartment complex that I have been a resident of for two years with no issues at all, until yesterday (8/10/2018). This company towed my car, when I called to ask why this guy who refused to say or give his name said it was because my parking decal was not on my car. I explained to him that my parking decal was in my car and where it was he claimed that it was not there. So I asked where can I pick up my vehicle and I will gladly show him where my decal was. He told me that I could not see or show him anything until I pay him $120, this guy was rude, he kept hanging up on me and my sister as well. I had to wait over an hour to get my car back. I understand that this is a stressful business but however, this is a business he chose to work for. So unprofessional I will be reporting this business with the BBB (which I have seen that Mid Atlantic has been rated an F from BBB, because of similar complaints). I wish I could give a no star rating unfortunately it does not allow it. The few 5 star ratings I see is probably the company making up names to give themselves good ratings to keep their business afloat.

This place is horrible! And yea I understand nobody wants to get their car towed. HOWEVER, there’s no excuse for people to be rude to you when you call to get YOUR CAR and give THEM money. Then I get there and no ones even there! Waited over an hour for someone to show up! They don’t even tell you that when you initially call you just show up and then they tell you “we’ll have someone there within the hour” LIES! Then they put a sticker on my window for my expired tags And then give me 4 days to fix it or they’ll tow it. I mean seriously? That’s not even reasonable! Now my windshield is damaged because of that stupid sticker! Thanks a lot idiots.
