What clients say about Deltaville Boatyard in Deltaville (VA)

We needed an oil seal replaced on our Genenerator. It required splitting the Generator from the Engine side. I called Deltaville two weeks prior to our arrival. (Since the oil leak wasn't critical and we had other commitments anyway.) I spoke to the Manager Heidi. She asked for serial & model numbers so she could get any possible parts ordered. She asked me to send maintenance history, hours & photos of the Generator. She was very thorough! The Generator is back up and running!

One of the few yards that allow DIY. I had my boat hauled, washed and setup on stands. They did a good job with the pressure washer and the yard tech even found a ladder and set it up on my boat...a nice touch. Yard manager Heidi does a great job keeping things running smoothly. Highly recommend

We have used Deltaville Boatyard for winter storage and as a place to redo the bottom paint and zincs. Heidi and Cooper and those that work with them have all been a pleasure to work with. We mostly do our own work and this yard still allows this with reasonable restrictions such as vacuum attachments while sanding, etc. We have purchased Yanmar parts thru them and they were able to get them quickly. The location is good as it is next to the Deltaville Maritime Museum. The museum has nice gardens to walk thru. Deltaville itself is refreshing. If you need any odds and ends for your boat or boat repair go to Hurd's Hardware which is about a mile away from the boat yard. The anchorage off of the boat yard docks is well protected from most directions and the holding is good for the Bay. It is a mud bottom.

$5.00 a gallon for RED DIESEL is just criminal. We saw it the next day for much less.

We were here for three months, two of which we were away. Craning and launching the boat is highly professional! Heidi and her team took care of the boat while we were away. Heidi visited us every day to check that everything was ok and also helped us with many annoying phone calls as we don't speak English very well. The staff are always at your service and help everywhere. Your boat is in safe and very good hands here at Boatyard Marina. A big compliment to Heidi and her very friendly and professional team.

What a find. All mariners are well advised to call on these folks. We encountered some issues on our passage south. Heidi took on the task at hand. She organized their staff and got the job done in no time at all. Our experience in the North have made us very weary upon coming into unfamiliar Boat Yards. Not here. Heidi Clifton, Eric and Cooper treated us extremely well. Felt like family. Deeply indebited to the all. Gerry

What great repair service we received. A technician was on board in 20 minutes after our email work request! Problem was fixed in an hour including a trip to the hardware store. Polite and empathetic staff reacting to our schedule! Thank you DB!

Actually, Heidi and Shaun deserve twice as many gold stars!! Transients, my husband and I unexpectedly found that we needed a new alternator on a Thursday afternoon. By Saturday morning, we were back to sailing, thanks to (Manager) Heidi--her local knowledge and extreme graciousness. And to Shaun (Marine Mechanic) whose expertise was clearly evident as he patiently and thoroughly went over our entire electrical system, answering any questions and offering useful advice. If you are ever in need of marine services in Deltaville, look no further than the Deltaville Boat Yard-you will NOT BE disappointed!!

Great location and staff. Super clean bathrooms and lounge. Dennis was really great and came in on a Sunday (when they are typically closed) to give us keys to the courtesy car. Will definitely return!

We love This place. Facilities are awesome and the folks who work here are kind and helpful. That sort of atmosphere comes from the top down. Management are helpful, quick to assist on anything and their rates are great. We won’t stay anywhere else if we ever come back to the Chesapeake. You won’t regret coming here.

Charged us over $10,000 to install a watermaker. After our refrigerator compressor control failed we learned they had installed a bulkhead to mount the watermaker filters that completely obstructed access to the compressor. We had to cut a large hole to access the compressor and then design, manufacture and install a brace to support the new hole. They installed a wind generator which was positioned to foul the topping lift so we were unable to use our mainsail. Upon realizing this after departure they agreed to fix it upon our return in a month. When we tied up in the marina a month later we learned that we would be paying $125 an hour to fix their mistake. After we left in disgust the owner offered to fix it once we were 325 miles away. Be prepared for billing practices that will take your breath away.

Seems like the owner of Deltaville Boatyard is trying to assemble a skilled and experienced technical staff, but in this case the front office demonstrated completely unacceptable communication skills, poor follow up and rude unprofessional behavior. Had they provided good initial information when I first called or even bothered to respond to the online work request they insisted I complete it could have prevented this issue. I had called to arrange haul, wash, and brief storage in the yard for a DIY bottom paint project the following week, They advised it wouldn't be a problem. They wouldn't take my info or schedule me for haul out over the phone, instead I was instructed to complete their online work request form, and I would be contacted. I completed the form immediately and received an auto confirmation of the submission. Five days later, no contact. I called expressing concern that I had not heard anything, Both Amy and then Heidi were short on the phone and clearly annoyed by having to deal with my call, but Heidi promised a call back. Three hours later, no call. As I was expecting to haul the following day, I called again, and was told Heidi was in a meeting, but that they weren't sure they had room for me. I asked why no one had told me that was a possibility when I called the week prior, or why they had not bothered to respond to the online request I was directed to complete. I was given the excuse that they had no control over how long DIY boats stay in their yard. When Heidi finally returned my call after 4 hours she confirmed they had no room for my boat. When I explained I had already scheduled 4 days off from work based on their assurances of availability, I got a very terse and insincere "sorry". They were also unwilling or unable to offer any options or creative solutions for a problem they created. I can't speak to the quality of their work, but when you're often hours away from your boat, good timely communication is vital, and they clearly have no understanding of the concept.

Just saw one of their trucks blatantly run a red light. White woman with blonde hair in ball cap, making a U-turn. Light was clearly red, she knew. I don't have boat, but I'd recommend for those who do pick a company who follows the law.

Sailors beware: Our Engine died off the Rappahannock River on the Chesapeake Bay in late October 2020. We were towed into the Deltaville Boat Yard at the recommended of Boat US. We were stranded there while the yard spread out our repairs for over a month. To be fair Deltaville Marina and Deltaville Boat Yard are separate entities although both are owed by the same person. The marina staff was helpful and courteous. The same could not be said of our experience with the yard. It wasn’t the mechanics that were the problem. With one exception they were professional and capable. Our difficulties were with the administration of the yard and how the mechanics’ time was scheduled. No priority was given to the repair of transients’ boats. There were long delays between the times a mechanic was scheduled to work on our engine and it wasn’t consistently the same mechanic. It was impossible to get information on when parts and a mechanic to install them would show up. It was all very frustrating. We were once told in the office that they were very busy and if we were unhappy with the service we could go elsewhere - this while our engine’s fuel injection pump was in pieces. It didn’t help that the yard shuts down on weekends. Our situation only improved after we talked to the owner and he apparently intervened. We finally left Deltaville Boat Yard on the day before Thanksgiving 34 days after we were towed in. This is not the place to go for emergency repairs. I requested a new fuel lift pump and was charged the following: Pump 89.76 Primer paint 12.85 Blue paint 19.99 Acetone solvent 12.89 3 M blue tape 7.00 Rags 2.48 Labor ? I was then told the throttle lever on the injector pump was leaking and needed a new seal. I said please fix it. They order the seal and 2 days later told me they couldn’t replace it in the boat because of the risk of dropping a part in the bilge and would need to do it in the shop and they removed the pump. I was t hen told they couldn’t do it in the shop and they had to send it out for a total rebuild at a cost of $1425.76 plus parts. I said I could purchase the rebuilt pump from Transatlantic for $800. That’s when I was told if I didn’t like the service I could pay my bill and leave. After the pump was installed Deltaville boat yard insisted on a sea trial. Two men @ $95/hour. 34 day later we finally left the dock

Very protected marina. Super clean restrooms. Courtesy car available for the local supermarket or hardware store. The marina staff are really nice.

We loved the atmosphere, the docks, the staff and even the liveaboards were super friendly. They had clean bathrooms/showers at all hours. They had a courtesy car, the museum was easily walked to...a very enticing Marina.

About the finest experience in a boatyard that we’ve ever had. The personnel in the office and the guys in the yard are hard working and responsive. The location is woodsy and conveniently located near an awesome hardware store and a West Marine. We were able to do all work on our boat, no questions asked. We’ll be back!

I had always been impressed by the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the nice facilities in this marina, particularly the swimming pool during the summer. However, our experience last week was not pleasant. The lift staff lacked the basic customer service skills and when lunch time came, they just left us stranded. We understand that the owner is working on improving the situation by giving better training to his staff.

Great boatyard, great people, great place We have been customers of DBY for over ten years. Keith Ruse runs his boatyard the way others should aspire to. He has a team of well qualified and highly experienced ABYC certified technicians who can handle any project no matter the size. We’ve experienced other boatyards on the east coast and none comes close to DBY high standards. And that’s why we keep coming back to Jackson Creek

Beautiful marina with eXcellent peace, quiet and serenity however the internet doesn't work. The phones have no coverage here either. The top of priorities list for me includes network otherwise, I would rate this marina 5 easy stars...

Stopped in on a late passage. They told me where to tie up. The place is great. Prices are ok, bathrooms, showers and laundry room we're imaculant! Everyone was nice and willing to please. Just the nature of good people. Undergoing upgrades. This place is nice. I don't give 5 stars often.

Beautiful marina! Wish we lived closer so we could keep our sailboats here.

Nice marina with new floating docks at some piers. Dock master came out to assist us with docking in a new slip on our first visit and they even provided some lines and fenders.

Competent, reputable, eager to please. Keith Ruse runs the Boatyard with highest p.s. standards and perfection is their aim. Jacqui, his wife, oversees the marina. I feel like this is my nautical home!

What a warm and welcoming group of people. Lots of improvements to the facility and more on the way. Keith Ruse runs a quality business and has a great background in the field. This is a working yard with a marina feel. Quaint little country town with true southern hospitality.

In mid-March, I brought my Kadey Krogen 55 Expedition (Olympia) to Deltaville Boatyard for her first "spa" treatment since purchasing her in December of 2014. She had her bottom painted and got her hull and topsides waxed. Since I was coordinating this job from a distance, I had to rely on Starr and her team to get the job done right. They surpassed my jaded, New York expectations over and over! Not only was the job done perfectly, but some minor issues that arose during her trip from Stuart were addressed and taken care of. They graciously received shipments of parts and stowed them exactly where I indicated. When I arrived a few weeks later, Olympia was waiting for me, gleaming in the sun. Even though it was a weekend, Keith took her out for a sea trial and showed us the best way out of the channel. I was surprised to get a phone call from Keith the day after our departure, and again a week later - just to check up on us. I'm a fussy and over-the-top new boat owner - I can honestly say the staff at Deltaville exceeded my expectations and did it in a professional, yet friendly way. This is a marina I'll return to on my trips north and south. Thanks for a great job!

We had an excellent time there. Jacqui and her family were awesome helping us. The facilities were nice, clean, and what we needed after a few days and some bad marinas. Love the courtesy car, lounge with books/wifi/etc and the laundry. Thanks for a great transient stay. She even came after hours to bring us a packet and map of town. Livin Right-trimaran
