It’s like they have a list of the people who have called and asked why their trash hasn’t been picked up. I promise if you ever call and ask why your house was skipped it will be skipped on purpose the next few weeks almost as a flex. I’d also rather bathe in lemon juice, hot sauce and razor blades than to talk to their customer service. You’re better off eating your garbage than using this absolute abomination of a trash service. Oh they also love to call you during holiday weeks and tell you your trash will be delayed a day….it won’t actually be. You’ll just miss garbage pickup and then when you call them and tell them they’ll tell you it’s your fault they called you and told you pickup was delayed a day. I wish I could give negative stars. They should honestly be paying me for all the trash I have to deal with for them

We discontinued service with GFL due to price increase. However everytime i call, which has been every week for the past few weeks, to pick up their trash container and every time I'm told it will be picked up that day barring any delays. It still hasn't been picked up. How long am i supposed to leave that thing at the end of my driveway?

Gfl has always been great! Pick ups never missed, kind and friendly drivers. Especially the rear load team, they are awesome! Thanks for great service and friendly smiles.

I would not recommend this service. They damaged my property multiple times and I still continued my service. After this last time when they blamed it on mother nature (response from the GM after speaking to my account manager), I decided that enough was enough. I am currently navigating the discontinuation of service due to my contract auto-renewing for two years without notification. This was once a good company until GFL came on board. Also, my billing went from an initial $68 per month to $152 over a two year span. Update: I was unable to cancel my service due to the terms and the liquidated damages cost. My account was put on suspension for non-payment while we were in dispute of the contract. I was not serviced for 2 months until I paid them. Once I paid them I immediately received an invoice for 3 months of services not provided. Also, my bill has gone up from the $152 to $214 per month. I can't wait to cancel this contract. Terrible company. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! I cannot believe the amount of times they did not pick up my trash, when called said that someone would be there but never showed. When finally had enough and cancelled their service was told that I would receive a credit in the mail from prepaying for service. Credit never came, when I called they said that credit was used to pay past bill from over a year ago. Why wasn't that billed to me months ago if in fact it was owed? Astounding at how poorly they do their job yet still in business.

I had been with this company for 10 years, originally with a different local provider that GFL Environmental eventually bought out. At first, trash pickup was smooth and consistent. But over time, the service went downhill. They began spam calling me regularly, trying to upsell dumpsters and other services I didn’t need. The final straw was an unannounced price increase. My standard weekly trash pickup jumped to nearly $31 without any notice. When I called customer service, the representative was rude and dismissive. I've since switched to a different company with better rates and far better customer care. I strongly recommend avoiding GFL Environmental and choosing a locally owned trash service instead.

Moved to Madison Heights from Texas 4 weeks ago and I have had exactly one pickup of trash (I live right on South Amherst Hwy near Food Lion). I have called 6 times in the past week and everytime I was assured that there was a “routing problem” and that they would pickup. I called on Tues 06/10, Wed 06/11, Thur 06/12, and today on Friday 06/13 at 4:55pm I called to ask once again if my trash was going to be picked up since it was 15 days past due. I was assured I was on the pickup schedule and will be picked up by 7pm. Obviously by the 2+ weeks of garbage in the picture posted, they in fact did not. I will paying them a visit in person, 8am in the morning, 06/16/2025. Unbelievable unprofessionalism and judging by past reviews, a common theme of nonperforming the basic duty of their so called service. Avoid at all costs.

We have a dumpster at our shop in Amherst. Today is 1/17/2025. Our last pick up was dec 26, 2024 and it was late then. They said something was blocking the dumpster. Funny, that day it was suppose to be blocked, our cousin down the road didn't get his dumped either. He has absolutely nothing near his. Ive called and let them know nobody dumped us on the 9th. What's the point of having the dumpster when we have to take trash to the dump now because it's full? I believe the drivers are just not dumping and making excuses. I was suppose to receive a call back about them coming sooner than next week and no one called. 228.00 a month for 1 dump a month!!!!!!!! They wont get the full amount this month. I do not recommend this place.

Terrible service. Had many problems when using GFL. They would leave my trash sometimes, They took my cans away bc I was late once also. I paid them and they Brought back the cans but in the wrong sizes and assured me I wldnt b charged for the larger sized can. But I’m not so sure…because Then I got a bill that was enormous…$263 and some cents!! I have Always paid $50 monthly. I owed two months at the time so $100. So I called to inquire about our bill and the receptionist was unfriendly and told me she couldn’t speak to ME about our bill because it is in my husband’s name. Well they had BEEN speaking to me about our bill while my husband was away for 4 1/2 yrs so I’m not sure what changed…and I didn’t ask for any pertinent information just to explain the charges on the bill so we could understand the charges and pay it or dispute it. My husband works during their business hours and he works with his hands so he has very little time to be on his phone. IF he gets a lunch he usually needs to eat quickly and return. And GFL are closed when he gets home in the evening, so before HE cld call them they had quickly sent the bill to collections. I also spoke with my elderly neighbor across the street and she said they sent her to collections once too and in a short time. She said she had to pay it and has service with them again now. But We are currently taking our trash off ourselves and will be looking for a new trash service. I do not recommend using GFL.

This was my first time at the Cloverdale facility. After figuring out the process, I was pleasantly pleased. The facility was extremely clean, and I was able to back my dump trailer into the bay and dump my refuse without being in the nasty weather. The employees were friendly as well.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Our trash was not picked up this morning. I called and was told they were running late and it would be picked up. Still have not come. When I called back I was told they came by already. When I asked for someone to come out to get the trash this weekend I was told there were no drivers. Then I was told I could pay $34 for them to come in 24-48 hours to get the trash and that’s the best they could do. No supervisor available to speak with. Real nice customer service for a mistake they made. Looking elsewhere.

My trash was not picked up this week. I called. They show my account closed 5/22(it’s 12/24). Oh by the way you have a $500 credit. They have been billing me and picking up k trash for 2.5 years. Said they would get back to me. I called again. They picked it up and told me I was basically a liar. Cancelled my service. Customer service is a fail here.

I pay for weekly service and yet they still manage to miss me. Says I'll have a credit on next bill and it never shows up. Constant price increase. This last one done me in. December 31st, 2024 will be my last day with GFL.

Unfortunately, my experience seems to mirror that of so many others who have expressed their frustration with GFL Lynchburg. After several weeks of missed recycling pickup, several requests for recovery gone unfulfilled, and customer service telling me that my complaints had gone unrecorded, we simply couldn’t work with GFL any longer. Undoubtedly one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had. Though we were promised a refund for services, I don’t trust that I will receive one. I hope GFL takes these reviews seriously and conducts an earnest assessment of their operations. Almost my whole neighborhood uses WasteCo, and I now know why: better service and better pricing.

I would leave 0 stars if possible, seems like a lot of people have similar issues with this company. Monday pick is the worse because their holiday makeup schedule is non existent. Our trash just gets skipped for the week. This morning hardly anyone in the carriage grove neighborhood had their trash picked up because they consistently come around noon, but today they came at 8am. You could just watch them zoom up and down the streets because no one’s cans were out yet. I’m sure they will make record time today finishing their routes. We will be cancelling. Id rather take my own trash to the dump

After changing hands and getting cut back to every other week in recycling, I just cancelled my service with gfl. My bill is paid monthly automatically and they went up form $37 per month for trash and recycling in o $53 per Month and only pick up every OTHER WEEK! So you are not pick up recycling twice Per month and go up nearly 75% and then want to interrupt my service? Are you on drugs? My account has been paid timely every month but then you decide to go your fees (charge me more and service me less?? Do you think I’m an idiot? Use any other service customers. You be never inc even late with a payment and this is the thanks we get as paying customers? Get lost gfl. I’ll take my own trash and recycling to the proper center. Timothy Thomas Forest, VA

Left a ton of the neighborhood without their trash picked up due to their terrible holiday schedule that they have up, you HAVE to type in your exact location. Don’t just look at their main schedule. Also, they usually come at 12:00 in the day and they randomly came at 5:00 and again, no one’s trash was picked up because we all set it out when we leave for work. Was told to “always put out previous business day” which is stupid because wind/storms can totally cause a mess on the streets. Just pick up trash at a similar time each day. On week 3 of no trash picked up due to just random weird issues. Using this company cause it was bought out and their prices are also almost double the price.

If I could give GFL a negative star rating, I would not hesitate for a moment. My experience with GFL, a company tasked with something as basic as trash and recycling pickup, has been nothing short of a disastrous nightmare. Imagine having your trash pile up for four agonizing weeks, with no sign of pickup. Now, add to that the fact that our recycling hasn't been touched in over two months. This isn't just poor service; it's a complete abandonment of responsibility. Despite numerous calls to their customer service, where we're met with the promise of a "ticket" being created to address our issue, there has been zero follow-through. It's as if these tickets vanish into thin air, along with any hope of having our trash and recycling removed. The lack of action and accountability from GFL is appalling. We're not just paying for a service that we're not receiving; we're being completely ignored. This situation has escalated beyond inconvenience; it's a health hazard. The accumulation of trash and recyclables is not only unsightly but poses significant risks to our community's well-being. Yet, despite these severe implications, GFL seems indifferent to the chaos they're causing. It's clear that GFL is incapable of fulfilling their basic duties as a waste management service. The only decent course of action would be for them to issue refunds to their customers for the abysmal failure to provide the services we've paid for. However, given their track record, expecting accountability seems like a far-fetched dream. I am beyond tired of dealing with this company's incompetence and utter disregard for their customers and community. GFL needs to recognize when they're out of their depth, shut down their operations, and leave our town. We deserve better, and it's high time we demand it. The situation has reached a breaking point, and for the sake of our community's health and sanity, GFL must either radically improve or step aside for a company that can competently manage our waste management needs. UPDATE: I just called GFL and spoke with someone and they have the audacity to tell me you can do whatever you want!!! This is beyond APPALLING. As one local business owner I would never say stuff like this to any of my clients. Clearly GFL has lost its opportunity to serve its community! DO NOT USE THIER SERVICE! Rather choose WASTECO over this company.

Update: They dropped my recycling service without telling me, saying I am out of service area. But increased my price without telling me. So I'm paying more for just trash now then I was for trash and recycling together. What's stranger is that my neighbors on either side of me get recycling service and they pass my house. But I am out of service? insane. They lied about picking up my trash, marking it complete for two weeks. Then I had to call multiple times. The first time they said they couldn’t send a recovery truck until the next week so we had to take it all to the dump ourselves due to the stench of the garbage sitting in the heat. Second week I called and they said they would send out a recovery truck that day and give me a two week credit. Never happened. Called a few days later. There was no record of the credit, and they refused to honor the two week credit only offering one week credit. They had no record of why the driver lied and marked it complete. They said since they were sending a recovery truck “supposedly” later that (third) week that I couldn’t get two weeks credit (even though I went over two weeks without garbage pickup). They also had my phone number and email wrong that I updated with them twice already. Looking for other trash pickup options now. Avoid!

I also would give half a star...if not zero. I had a commercial and residential account. My residential trash was not picked up 3 times in six months. Our entire street got skipped, numerous times. When we called, I was told 24-48 hours. Our trash pickup was on Thursday normally. So, Friday comes and I called back and asked if they were going to pick it up. They said 24-48 hours. I asked if that included Saturday. They said yes.They didnt pick my trash up until the day before the service was to run again the following week. I asked for a refund, I was denied. I asked for a supervisor, I got one who flat out fabricated what she told me. I was told she would attempt to get me a refund back to my card in 3-5 business days. You think they bothered to call me back? No....I had to call and ask for my $. I was told "the check is in the mail". I mean...really? I run a construction business and I have never had such horrible service in my life. I cancelled and went with Wasteco...because they are the ones who used to run this route before selling to GFL. Cheaper, better service, all around better experience. I cancelled my service with GFL. I was also told I could not bring my trash can to them...and now I've waited over 3 weeks for them to pick theirs up. I just found out today you can drop it off behind Johnstone at their main office in lynchburg. You bet thats just what i'm going to do because i"m tired of being lied to by this company, their employees, and their supervisors. You wonder why you have a 1.4 star review...start reading these reviews and maybe...just maybe....try to Improve? ***Update a week later… and they STILL haven’t picked up their trash can.? Sad.. that I have to deliver to them myself “.

Trash was never picked up on the scheduled day and after calling numerous times, nothing was done. Representatives give you the run around and empty promises of trash being picked up the next day, but almost week later and of course nobody has come and probably won’t come until my regularly scheduled pick up. As a paying customer, there’s no need to lie to us about promises you can’t keep. If you have another trash collection provider available in your area, please use that company and NOT GFL. This is probably the worst and most unreliable service in the greater Lynchburg area. Thank you so much GFL for making this trash pickup a nightmare and stealing money for services you obviously can’t provide.

CAN I GIVE A HALF STAR??? We've been with County Waste then GFL for 7 years, no problem. Something seems to have happened within the past 6 months. Trash not being picked up. Recycling not being picked up. We called customer service multiple times. One time, the rep literally said "I can't think this hard so early in the morning. I'm going to have to call you back once I figure this out." No return call. At least she was nice. The problems eventually escalated to the point we asked for a supervisor. The supervisor was RUDE and tried to gaslight us by saying our recycling is only every other week--but couldn't explain why someone from THEIR company has been picking it up EVERY Thursday for the past year and a half that we've had recycling. With that, I was done. And she ended by saying "You're LUCKY I called you back within 24 hours." If you need 48 hours to return a customer complaint, you have too many complaints. Don't even get me started on how they're constantly raising prices. And, we just received a letter that starting next month, recycling will only be every other week, but $5 more? Stop the madness! We've gone to a different company. Praying this one gets put out of its misery.

Been using this service for roughly 2 years & during that time have had to reach out to customer service about things being left. One time the driver claimed he did not pick up and empty box because it had styrofoam in it. It had broken down boxes & was taped shut. Another time the cited "Covid mandates" to not get out of the truck so as to not risk exposure! The most recent time they said because I did not call ahead and tell them about the box of recycling sitting on top of the bin, they were not obligated to pick it up! One time they did not even come to my area for pick up & when I called to find out why they said they would send someone out to get it, three days later they did. They raised their cost 3 times in one year without warning and when I called to inquire about this all they could say was "operating expenses". I finally cancelled my account a month ago only to get billed this week for another month. Their reason? I needed to go on their site and stop the automated billing as "they have no control over that"! -_-

Once again my trash was not emptied as of 9 days ago. I always set my trash out on Monday for a Tuesday pickup. I have been skipped over several times. Each time I call I’m told they have until 7p.m., and to call back the next day if it is not emptied. I call back and it does no good. I canceled my service this month even know I’m paid up through the end of the month, I just wanted to be done with them. I was told the can would be picked up by today. I have asked them several times, when they will pick the can up? I even cleaned it inside and out. It’s been 9 days and the can still sits at the end of my driveway. I called again today and was told to give them until January 2nd!! I will be so glad to be done with them. I never have been given any explanation why my trash has not been picked up on multiple occasions. They seem to have an oh well attitude.

My trash collection company (County Waste) was bought out by GFL Industries a year ago. A week ago, I noticed a pending charge for next month’s fee. It was a 38.3% increase with no forewarning whatsoever. I immediately cancelled my service but was told that it would take 6 to 8 weeks to refund next month’s payment. Six to 8 weeks??? It usually takes 6 to 8 days to get a refund. When questioned about it, they said it takes that long for a check to be mailed. I asked why the credit card I use for payment could not be refunded. They agreed and said it was done. It was not done. That was 3 days ago. No pending refunds. Also, on the day I stopped service, they told me their container would be collected. That was 8 days ago and even with several phone calls complaining about their lack of service, it still sits in my front yard.

Started garbage pick up with GFL 4 months ago. A least once a month they do not pick up the garbage or recycle. When I give them a call about same they make excuses. Finally this last time right before Thanksgiving they did not pick up garbage or recycle. I called them and they said they would send someone out on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Friday came and by 3pm they still had not come so I called GFL and was told they had until 7pm to pick it up. They did not pick it and now we have an over abundant amount of garbage. This company does not stand by its word. Avoid them if you can.

Service was fine until it all of a sudden wasn’t any more. Recycling pickup was missed for almost 2 weeks and customer service kept promising pickup within 24-48 hours- this went on for almost 2 full weeks with no pickups. Drivers said that the road was blocked and that the did actually pickup and neither were true. When I asked a CS representative for a refund on my account, I was told that if I got a refund they wouldn’t pick up my recycling. Absolutely terrible experience. I’m so disappointed they are the only recycling provider in the area. I’ve closed my account with them and will never resume.

There's a reason this company has a 1.5 star rating. It's a terrible company. I ordered services which had started on the 13th. Not only was my trash skipped over, but the oopsie pickup that following Friday was ignored too. Mind you this is a brand new service with the company. Great first impression. If you ever try to speak with someone in a managerial position you're told to wait up to 72 hours and they will reach out (never did). Either this company is very big or very small. Either way you're not important. There was several trash services available over here in dead man's land. GFL shouldn't be the one you pick. Take it from the review scores.

We got the runaround over and over and over and over of why our recycling goes without being picked up every single time we have it scheduled to be picked up. We’ve had to call so many times to get it picked up that we feel like we work there. Only, if we did, we’d do a better job. Awful service. Photo of our full can that will probably sit at the curb for a week while they tell us we’re on the schedule and never show up. If you use GFL in Lynchburg, be prepared to call every time you want it picked up- and then be charged $10 every time they do. We need to do better. This is why people in this city don’t want to bother recycling.
