These guys are clueless when It comes to diesels. We are new to the area and didn't know better. They kept our truck for 3 months just blindly threw parts at it couldn't fix it and charged us over $2500 and the truck is still doing rhe same thing as when we dropped it off there. Over priced and rude youtube mechanics. Don't waste your time and money here.

Takes most places 1-3 weeks to even get my stuff in to be looked at and thank God the guy who used to work there left and this smart as a wip Ethan guy is there now doing inspections and fixing stuff he is honest and will tell you if it is something he has time to work on it and I know some people get mad when he don't stop working on a customer's car and work on their car right now but Ethan helps people in the order they come hos not helping them when they want is not a reflection that he can't do the work but a reflection that he is responsible enough to do things right

Poor diagnosis. Racked up large bill only to be told they could not fix my vehicle. Now I am SOL. Nice guy but in over his head.

I originally tried these guys because the wait time was virtually non-existant, and now it's pretty obvious why. They're 0 for 2 on even diagnosing the issue with my vehicles, let alone attempting to fix them. First issue was a fuel pressure regulator, and I told their "mechanics" that could be the issue after trying a few things myself, but they had NO clue what I was talking about and a mechanic went as far to challange me on if that was the issue. They couldn't fix it. And go figure it was just the fuel pressure regulator - their mechanic wanted to use the parts cannon and replace all my injectors (none of which had any issues) before I told them I'd fix it myself and paid them for wasting my time. Second issue took them over a day of trying before throwing in the towel so I paid them for giving up. Made an appointment and took it to SML Automotive Services and in about an HOUR they figured out the issue was a bad fuel purge valve. I cannot stress enough how bad these guys are at actually figuring out issues with vehiles. Do yourself a favor and make an appointment literally anywhere else in town, or do it yourself because if you know how to turn a wrench and use Google you're likely as qualified as these guys.

Jeff Is what made this place worth going to. He is "no longer" there. I stopped by one day, and a very young man is now the mechanic. Nice enough, and have no clue what he can or can not do. But...I can tell you Jeff was for me the "only" reason I used SMLT.

Quoted me $250 to tow us 5 miles in moneta. Big Toe is doing it for $95

I received honest and fair service on my vehicle while I was visiting Smith Mountain Lake. I have no reservations in recommending them if you are in the area.

Very helpful in towing my car after it was totaled in an accident. Ethan and Jeffrey gave us valuable information about the follow-up with insurance.

"O" rating ask me. I pass going here and having work done. I called them and got a quote of $ 172.00 just for a part. No disclosure on the rest they charge. The part only costs $45.00 and that is Advance. Wow............................... Way to high, I called around and got a quote of $142.00 on what I needed to be done. All in one bill!! Bingo. I like to mention this man was very rude. "I can't touch it with a price of 45" Hmmm must charge more. Rude. Wishing you luck unreal.

I don't usually write reviews, but when I receive exceptionally outstanding service, I am compelled to. Let me preface by stating that I subscribe to a YouTube channel called Rainman Ray's Repairs. Ray is a master diagnostician, honest and overall excellent mechanic. While speaking with Jeff at SML, it felt like I was with someone just as talented, professional and honest. He reviewed with me what I was asking him to do and the technical aspects of what he could and could not do. I was VERY impressed with every aspect of my experience and will most certainly be bringing my business to him when my auto repair needs require it. Jeff is the kind of mechanic you to bring your car to. Thank you.

I recently had the awful experience of this business's service from the towing and repair perspective. My car broke down in my driveway. I called them to tow it to them to repair. Took two days and constant calling them to get them to pick up my car. the repair shop later called and said it would need a part and would be another day. After they fixed the car. I pay for the repair, go get in my car and the dashboard lower cover is on the floor and grease is all over the steering wheel and floor mat. I had to hand tight the screws in to the dash covers to drive it home. Cleaned the steering wheel. and drove it to work in Roanoke next day and again it would not start. I called them up to come and pick it back up to repair it again. he said it might be tomorrow. Turns out their towing business is a part time job for some one who runs Ethan's tree service so he tows when he is not doing the better paying tree services. To this day, exactly 2 weeks since I called for them to pick my car up again in Roanoke, I have still not heard from them. I turned to a service shop I trust in Roanoke just to have to get it done right. AWFUL!!

Great service. Jeff is truly a wealth of mechanical knowledge. I am a real pain to satisfy when it comes to my vehicles. Jeff has exceeded my high expectations each and every time. I feel compelled to share with all this "hidden gem" in Smith Mountain Lake area for vehicle maintenance and repairs. At 68 years of age I have had extensive experience with auto repair facilities. And this is a great place to get professional service done at a reasonable price. And on time! I take my 2019 Lexus GX460; 2016 Mercedes Benz GL450; 2005 GMC Yukon XL SLT 2500; and 2019 Thor Vegas 25.2 RV to Jeff for service. Candidly, it's "NOT" a fancy dealership facility by a long shot! But the quality of professional service done right, exceeds any dealership I've ever been too. Do yourself a favor. Get past "fancy bells and whistles" and take your vehicle in for service. You will be rewarded!

I have taken our cars to Jeff several times over the last two years. He is a great mechanic who has always been fair with me. His diagnostics are spot on and his repairs take place in a timely manner. His pricing is more than fair. I drive from Christiansburg just for his service. You really can't beat him as an honest and reliable mechanic. Plus, he's a nice guy. What more can you ask for?

I was very happy when SML Towing and Auto Repair opened in the former Coach Works building. Jeff, the mechanic, is very knowledgeable about all areas of the mechanics of cars and trucks and he does quality work for a reasonable price. The thing I like most is that I trust him to be honest and fair. I recommend him to anyone who needs help with their vehicle.

I have had a good bit of work done here recently and I have to say, the consistency is hard to beat. Jeff has always been able to complete every job and also completed them super fast. Their pricing is what I would consider more than fair, not to mention Jeff, Tim and Larry have always just been great people to be around

I have had a several different vehicles of mine and my families and have always been satisfied with the repairs. Jeffery is a very good and dedicated person who is known for his honesty when diagnosing an issue. If he tells you he doesn’t know what is wrong he will direct you to the proper type of service needed.

Jeff knows his craft & knows where to go to get the info he doesn't know. If it can be done without dealer proprietary specified parts or info, he can do it.

I had a work van stuck in mud and needed to have it towed out. Ethan & his dad came right on out and got the van back on the road in no time! It was a cold, rainy day, but Ethan was on the ball - and on the ground under the van to attach the tow chain! We had discussed the cost prior to the tow and they came in below the quoted price!!!! These guys were great to work with - I'll be using them again whenever I need a tow!

My experience with SML Towing and Repair over the last three years includes ongoing service for my 7 personal use vehicles as well as occasional towing needs. I moved to the Hardy area in 2012. I sampled other mechanic shops before I discovered SML Towing and Repair. With all my old vehicles, I was looking to settle in with a good shop who could take care of them all. A large operation down the road was good on service, but always put me off until the next Thursday, even on simple jobs. Dropped that one. Went to a one man shop on Rt. 122. That was o.k. but not great, had some issues with repairs holding up. Went to a local light duty service fast oil change place. That was o.k., not great, busted a tire stud, had oil dripping from changes, smudges on my door handle, dirt on my driver seat, etc.--and they could not touch the heavier jobs I needed to keep my vehicles running. I finally ran across SML Towing and Repair. I have been very satisfied with them and trust them with all of my vehicles. This has been over several years now. REPAIR SERVICE: work SML Towing and Repair has done for my cars includes small jobs such as oil changes, fixing a truck door handle, steering system, exhaust, shocks, brake lines, brake replacements, engine overhauls, and transmission replacement. I have 7 older vehicles and 3 trailers and SML Towing and Repair is keeping them all roadworthy, meaning capable of an all day drive on highways. I have been more than satisfied with their quality of service, personal attention and willingness to work me into their schedule with emergencies. Their lead mechanic is top notch, both in mechanical skills on all these jobs, but he goes the extra mile to find parts, sort out old car repair issues and get the work done well and reasonably priced. ON TOWING: As to towing, they have been great on responsiveness and price. I compared to other towing operations I have used both in Roanoke and here in the Hardy area. Fair price, good response and no damage to the vehicle. I give SML Towing and Repair a solid Five Star Rating.

I have taken 3 cars in for service and state inspection. They took me right in each time without an appointment and did an excellent job. Jeff was very good at explaining any issues and was very respectful and professional. He did what he said and delivered every time as promised. I plan on taking my 4 cars and camper here from now on. Its nice to have someone you trust working on your vehicles. Great job!

I had to have a tow a few weeks ago due to an accident, and Was shocked as to their actions. From their location to the accident was less than 20 miles, however they charged 1 hour to pick up and 1 hour to take back to their shop. It took 15 minutes to load and assume the same to unload but charged 1 hour. Total 3 hours. Then 2 days later I received a certified letter stating if vehicle wasn’t picked up in 30 days they would hold public auction!! The insurance adjuster was there the day after accident. The vehicle was moved in 3 days but they charged my insurance company over $2,000. Which included towing, storage and $170.00 for the cost of writing the nasty letter. This is insurance fraud! They are not reputable!!!

I am a small business owner so every time is costing me valuable time and money. Which is why I am a repeat customer at SML Auto Repair. Not only when my work truck did they have it fix and ready to go the next day, but since I was having fixed there they towed it to their garage free of charge. On top of that I asked them to store my truck inside overnight to protect my much needed equipment from the possibility of theft. Which they did for me happily. They have good pricing, are fast, efficient, and work with you to make sure you leave satisfied. I have been down their several times since and will continue to do so with the awesome service they provide.

Heard about this place from my dad and grandad he said great service and great price grandad nailed it on the head could not believe the great price there estimate matched the bill in fact was under what they had estimated thought I was going to have to do the work myself ended up I had my truck back within just a few hours with a new rear end in it everyone else said 2 to 4 weeks just to get me in been told they are doing state inspections as well when my inspection comes due I will be going there as well as any other mechanic work no more laying on the dirt in my driveway when I could easily pay them to do the work

Tim (the owner) is awesome! Jeff (the head mechanic) is very knowledgeable, got me in quickly, and talked with me before doing anything to my vehicle. My husband and I have had multiple things worked on. I will definitely be going here for all my automotive needs including towing which is free locally as long as the work is done by them. In short great service, great prices, quick service overall a good experience.

My wife and I both have our work done here, never had this level of service and the cost of the service was not bad at all for the work they did and we got a free tow for having them fix the car the tow was going to cost $200 from a nother place and the repair and tow was $360 + parts the tow was free and the parts cost the same as if I got them from advance auto my self. Have met many people that have had them work on there car never hurd a bad word about them, been back twice and each time got the same great service and prices .. ( now I heard they are doing inspections ) that's great
