This used to be a very efficient and well run system up until about a year ago. The lack of experience in the new staffing choices is very evident. I would rather pay the city fee for curbside than come out and spend the 60 -90 minutes on average, to do it myself. Lazy folks ,do lazy work! Please hire new management for operations or bring back the former managers . Thank you

The amount of dump trucks makes this place unbearable. It can take 30-40 minutes to come back through the scales.

Ladies working the scales are awesome! For that other poster... How about smiling when you deal with them? You get back what you put out.

I have mixed experiences here. Sometimes it’s a breeze, other times it takes forever. The operation always feels slow, only just recently starting to take credit cards (finally). The Encore shop is great but pricing is never clear and the fact you have to pay to bring things isn’t cool. Nelson’s free sheds are used so much more, and you don’t have to cross a scale in line to look or donate. It’s a flawed concept. It’s just sad to see what gets tipped into the landfill. Every time I go there I see something getting dumped that makes me nuts, like yesterday a 1/4 spool of unused copper wire. They’re too busy with so many big dumpsters and large commercial drivers coming to be able to pull anything off for recycling (let’s face it, copper, aluminum and steel are the only commercially viable and essential materials that absolutely should be recycled). I wish there was a better system for smaller household trash. I believe Albemarle should implement convenience centers like Nelson has. $2 per bag is not reasonable for example a small trailer load of household trash would cost 2-3x by bag vs scale, but if you end up behind 5 commercial trucks you might be waiting for 30 minutes. You can’t tell until you’re off the scale and stuck in line. Then on the flip side as a contractor I come here with a large dump trailer and often am waiting longer and losing big money by waiting in lone for a bunch of household trash and people who can’t back up trailers. The combined household and full scale commercial in a single facility and single scale is just poorly planned. Albemarle county and RSWA can and should do better.

I just passed by there, the guys who run the cars are great, the place is nice, fair prices, but the attention girls at the counter are terrible in their attitude you can see that they are working against their will, they treat you badly

Thank you for accepting used motor oil for no charge. I just started changing my own oil and Walmart wouldn't take my used oil even though I bought my new oil there. Came here today (Saturday) at 1pm. My first time here. Attendant was helpful in explaining the process. Quick and easy. Grateful for you guys! Tip: If all you are doing is dropping off used motor oil, make a right just after the main entrance and follow the arrow to ivy convenience center.

This building is the stinkiest filthiest place you’ll ever go in if there’s any water on the ground or if there’s any rain outside because it becomes a Stinky mud hole that you have to walk in and the employees doesn’t really seem to care.

Super nice people. The recycling area is comprehensive. They had a rough day today in the trash deposit area due to recent closures but it was handled professionally and as efficiently as it could have been.

Perils of relying on google to know hours for a government entity. Lots of us went there on March 4th, only to find out after the longgg drive that they were temporarily closed (until March 7th) to fix broken scales. (That shouldn't have caused them to close the recycling and trash drop off options. So disappointing.) Here's the notice that was on the landfill web site: Ivy Material Utilization Center (Ivy MUC) will be closed on Saturday, March 4 and Monday, March 6 to complete necessary equipment upgrades. Ivy MUC will reopen during regular hours, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, on Tuesday, March 7

I have taken my trash here for more than 20 Years. The employees here are the best, professional, helpful and friendly,Albemarle County should be proud, I won't throw my trash any where else!

Went at the end of the day so it was pretty dang busy. Took about 40 minutes start to finish. The people working were nice and somehow it didn't smell nearly as bad as usual. It would be nice if there was a way to get in and out a little faster but usually it isn't too bad.

Great recycling center and dump for trash. They have amnesty days during the year that you can get rid of tires, appliances & mattresses for free. Prices are fair & you can buy mulch by the ton or truck from this location.

Minimum charge to dump household junk is a $7 up to 200 pounds or so. You can recycle cardboard boxes newspaper printed papers and the like for free which is really convenient

I use this place all the time for trash and mulch. Not sure how a dump can get one star reviews for training, hours open and organization. Pretty simple place to use, just ask the attendants.

We are from Florida and love Publix Super Markets. They have an abundant selection of groceries, from great produce, to good meats, to good wine selections, to all staples, and their customer service is superb. But Wegmans takes it to a new level. They have everything. If it is food, I am guessing Wegmans carries it. You want $100 per pound Kobe beef, Wegmans has it. We wish there were Wegmans in Florida

If I could give 0 I would....I have never seen a more disorganized company in my life....I watch people use machines that have literally no idea...and are learning while costing people money waiting in line...time is money no matter how you cut it and having to wait on this place has cost me sooooo much money over the years that it's in the thousands of dollars...the lack of any responsibility by any worker here is very apparent....they are all worthless and the IQ couldn't be raised here without a whole bunch of ladders....

The hours are IMPOSSIBLE! Very nice and friendly staff for the handful of times I’ve been able to make it. Seriously. Waste collection locations in other parts of the state stay open to 7 pm and are open on Sundays as well.

The sights! The sounds! The smells! Oh my! This place is a real dump, literally! How exciting can that be? It satisfactorily serves its purpose.
