Great customer service, the team was very polite and helpful. They were very convenient as well since I didn’t have an appointment, as a walk in, I was fit in and not a long wait for what I needed. Pricing was also great.
Even though I arrived ahead of schedule, the team addressed my concern immediately when they could have told me to wait. I received the state inspection I needed for an affordable price. I highly recommend Yates! They get the job done.
While the work for a typical oil change was fine, the prices are exorbitant. I was charged $175 for an oil change and tire rotation which is quite honestly insane and over twice what I’ve been charged compared to DC prices I’ve paid. This might be the norm for the area, but charging $60 for tire rotation alone really threw me off as those are typically included in oil changes regardless. Work was fine and happy with the service, but be wary of prices as those are definitely over what is typical.
They say once you find a good mechanic you should keep them. These guys are the absolute best. They've helped me out of so many jams - there are almost too many to count. Recently the splash guard underneath my car came detached, and they fixed it for free, in about 10 minutes. Great family, great shop, highly recommend.
Dropped off my car for Emissions and VA inspection. Very professional and efficient. My vehicle was ready when they said it would be. A 4-star is the highest I go for anyone and bears no reflection of the good service they provide.
Went for my safety inspection here and the team was very friendly and quick. Good communication about when my car would be ready and plenty to do in the neighborhood while you wait.
On 9/27/25 I traveled 5 hours from NY to VA to inspect my brothers car who is in the military. I arrived at 220pm , on the website it says inspections are done until 3pm on Saturdays. The rep told me they were closed for the day and couldn’t do the inspection. I explained to him I do not live in VA and I did a long drive to get this done and 9/30/25 is the last day. He called another place for me they also said no. Even after all of that I literally begged because I would have to go home right after. He looked at me and told me to try elsewhere. That was so mean and showed no compassion. I had no clue where to go as I stated I don’t live in VA. Last year around this time I did the same drive here and they serviced the car with no issue. That was very disappointing and hurtful. I called a total of 10 places found on Google and only one told me they can help me but I had 2 minutes to get there, God bless Coastal gas station !

Was super impressed with the excellent customer service and very reasonable price. Had a vehicle issue not far from their location, and they really helped me out and got the vehicle in the shop. Would highly recommend and use their services again.
I'm all for supporting local businesses and I've brought my car to Yates for my vehicle inspection on multiple occasions. I'm always impressed with their customer service. The garage and office are super clean and everyone friendly and professional. Plus the location is super convenient as it's a short walk to the metro. My grandfather owned a garage in the midwest and Yates reminds me of those same old school values of providing good service, only lacking the white shirt and bow ties! It's lovely to read reviews of folks who have been helped by Yates in a pinch. I've recommended Yates to many friends for their car maintenance when their warranties run out.
Stay away! Super shady! Shame on me for continuing to go there after multiple questionable experiences but yesterday my car was inspected and it failed because the headlights were “ too low”. I was a little confused because my car has not been in any accident, the headlights are not broken and I don’t have some souped up car that has bells and whistles (it’s a mini suv). I was informed that they failed the car but could take a look at the issue and give me a quote for the repair. Something didn’t feel right and I told them I would take it elsewhere to get checked out. Took the car today to a national repair chain and they used the same machine used for inspection and multiple mechanics confirmed that the lights were level and there was no issue with them and were not sure as to why my car was failed.
Superior service, no surprise charges. This was for a 40,000 mile maintenance, plus battery change on a 2016 Volvo. Better service than the Volvo dealer. Frankly I don't trust the dealership.
UPDATE: Was contacted by Kris- the follow up to improve was impressive. Kris apologized for the failure of service and even refunded me the upfront cost I was given. Outside if the refund- the fact that they followed up and addressed the concern is a great way to handle business.
OP: Outside of the traditional tell you one price over the phone, then charge you more without reason- that I'm used to. The customer service is POOR. No greeting when you walk in, no smile, no eye contact, no basic pleasantries in regards to your business, no call with the quote before doing service as requested- and most of all... No "Thank you" when leaving. I'd pay double elsewhere before spending money where people don't appreciate my business. Won't be back.
Had a great experience. The team was great at communicating the process, we’re extremely knowledgeable, and the prices for repairs were reasonable. They fixed a few things on my truck that had been broken for years, and did it in less than 24 hours. I’ll certainly be back.
This place has come in clutch before saving me last minute. However, the experience has never been pleasant and I dread having to go there. They’re never friendly, they speak to you like you’re an idiot and they’re dead inside. Just your typical auto shop that sees a woman coming in and think she’s stupid and deserves no respect. I want to like them so bad because the location is so convenient for me, but I just don’t think I can do it anymore.
Greatest experience at an automotive shop I have recieved in my 28 years of being a driver. I had the pleasure of working with Zan. Upon explaining my issue he already gave a me a possibility of what it could be. Long behold, 3 hours later one of the options he gave, the right rear wheel bearing was shot. 2 visits later, to 2 different shops, 2 new rear tires, 2 wheels, rear brakes, over $2,000 spent , Yates had the issue and problem found and fixed by the end of the day. From my initial call with Zan to when I walked in to the door to picking up my vehicle, CLEANED. The service was OUSTANDING. Yates deserve 10*. Professional, fair priced and great people working there. My total came in under than what was quoted which was a bonus.

As a NoVA local I am an avid supporter of local businesses and Yates has to be one of my favorites. From their dry cleaning to their car wash, the experience always exceeds the expectations. This year for my state inspection I decided to use Yates automotive and yet again, exceptional service and quality output. Thanks Yates team!
So, AC goes out on my 15-year old car. Dealer gives me a very high estimate to fix - $3800. The car is barely worth that much, so I figure I will just sweat. However, the summer just got too hot. After a brutal trip I took it to Yates, they fixed it for $366, less than 10% of dealer estimate. AC working great. Wish I had taken it there first.

The service was exceptiinally great. We were on a family trip to Virginia when our vehicle broke down. We are not from the area, so had no idea who to call, took my car to Yates Automotive based on reviews and everything was taken care of quickly over text and the phone. Joey and his team were excellent, flexible and accommodating during all this as we had to come back to Canada. Over Super Bowl weekend, I had an issue with my car battery and brought it to Yates Automotive. They quickly replaced the battery, but after leaving, I noticed a clunking sound while driving. I brought the car back, and they discovered the front right axle was cracked.
Despite it being Super Bowl Sunday and most suppliers being closed, the team at Yates made sure the issue was properly diagnosed and addressed. While they sourced the parts and completed the repair, Zan was especially helpful in setting me up with a loaner vehicle for the week — which made the whole situation much easier to manage.
Everyone I dealt with was professional, courteous, and focused on making sure my car was safe and ready to go. I really appreciated their service and would definitely recommend Yates Automotive to anyone looking for a trustworthy shop.
I have been a client at Yates since 2018. Joey & John (managers) have gone above & beyond to diagnose Jeep issues, been honest, clear and helpful when dealing with stressful car repairs. Recently I had several issues going on at the same time, and Joey (General Mgr) personally kept me informed, worked to find the issues and I got back a repaired car, in budget and they cleaned it too. I highly recommend Yates for car repairs and honest communication. Service centers don't often know your name or care - but the Yates team really does. I'm grateful I found them - they have gotten me on the road back to my hectic life as a freelancer. Definitely consider them for trustworthy car repairs.
I am here for a few days just to get away and this morning I had a nail in my tire. Not being from the area I didn’t know where to go so I looked online and saw the great reviews Yates had. I got there and they took my car right in for me and were able to patch the tire. Both of the guys in the front desk were so friendly and helpful. Thank you again!
Yates is a super efficient place. Eddie completed my inspection very quickly. I was able to come right after work and have it done within the same day. The staff is extremely kind and helpful. Will definitely be coming back in the future
I would like to thank and recognize Yates Automotive for being a top notch repair shop. The staff was very attentive, explained everything in detail and had my car ready earlier than they estimated that it would be done. This is by far, the best Automotive shop that I've used. They have my business going forward.
Just got an estimate from them for transmission fluid replacement on my 2007 Lexus ES350. Yates called me back this morning telling me it would be $1164 because they had to remove all these things from my car in order to do the service. From what I've read online that's about four times more than the common charge so I called Lindsay Lexus, a place not known for its cheap prices but they are honest and I've had my car repaired there before so they were familiar with it.
Tony at Lindsay Lexus quoted me a price of $395 so I'm getting the work done there. When I picked up my car I mentioned this to the tech and he told me that my car would cost a lot more by the time I got it there and that wasn't a real price. However my car is not some strange Lexus that Lindsay has never seen before. I bought it at Lindsay and it's been serviced at Lindsay within the last month. Can't tell you if there are other things going on with my transmission that will need fixing but the dealership was 1/3 the price for the same service. And Yates wasn't even going to check to see if there was anything else wrong with my transmission. This was for the fluid exchange only plus a filter.
Won't be going to this place again.
My girlfriend and I moved to Alexandria earlier this year. Since then, we have done all our auto repairs at Yates. This includes an oil change (2x) and the replacement of a tire. Everything went smooth and with the tire they were able to order the one we needed in a matter of days. They have great customer service too. Highly recommend Yates Automotive!
While I was hoping for a better outcome for my car, I do appreciate Kris' honesty about my car's issues. He explained the issues and estimated costs if the shop were to complete the work. He also explained the consequences if I chose to continue driving the car as is. He also noted that with my car having such high mileage, he could do the repairs. However, other parts may need to be replaced in the near future.
Kris let me come pickup my car, pay for the diagnostic testing and instructed me to only drive the car home as it is not safe to be driving (more than that short drive). I truly appreciate his honesty about my car issues and having great concern for my safety.
I have donated the car this morning. I'm not in a rush to get a new car quite yet. However, when I do and need work done on the next car, I'll be returning to Yates for service.
Their team is awesome, prices are competitive, work gets done right, and they had my vehicle back to me quickly. Last time in, I had new/bigger tires installed that required spacers to properly fit — ordered all the parts myself and they were fine with me shipping that stuff directly to the shop. The job was a little complicated and they talked me through options, gave me good advice, etc. I definitely recommend Yates.
Shout out to Yates Automotive & their amazing staff. Yesterday, on way to church my warning light came on my that my back rear tire was very low, so headed to Yates Automotive. Embarrassed to say I wasn’t sure how much air was needed and how to check it so went in and a very, very nice, professional young man named John said he would be happy to put air in my tires. When I told him it was only the rear tire that the light had indicated, he insisted on checking all four and, this photo shows what he found in my front tire. So thankful he found that before who knows what could’ve happened. That’s the kind of personal attention and service Yates has been giving my family for over 50 years. Besides outstanding service, they are also one of the most generous and supportive businesses to our community & to so many non-profits. Thank you to the Yates family & entire team!!
