Most people dont enjoy sitting at a shop, however I enjoyed sitting in Matt's auto. Matt, his wife, and the staff are really amazing people, I HIGHLY recommend this auto shop! Great prices great people it doesn't get any better than that!
I have been to Matt's a number of times over the years for inspections, a few repairs, and now for some involved suspension repairs. If you are a friendly person with honest expectations, you will be treated the same way in return. It is a friendly place that does good work with an approach like an old-time handshake relationship. No clean and bright uniforms or squeaky polished floors. More like post-it notes and much used equipment and roll-arounds filled with specialty tools. And people who know how to use them. Matt and his wife run a good honest place for good honest customers.

Friends of mine recommended Matt and said he's the best diagnostician around. My car was making an unusual moaning sound that had gotten worse over the months. The tire place said I needed struts and shocks. Another mechanic (who is wonderful, too) said it was probably bearings but not to worry about it, yet. Over time it got louder, so I made an appointment with Matt. He took it for a test to feel and hear it and watching him diagnose is like watching a "Car Whisperer". He is extremely skilled and is a master at explaining the workings of your car to someone like me who knows very little except putting gas and wiper fluid in. I appreciated his attention to detail and the fact that he taught me things about my old Honda. While in the lobby, a customer in there asked me if I'd been to Matt's before. I told him that I was a new customer. He said, "Well, I won't go anywhere else but here. I'm old and have a had many mechanics in my lifetime and he's definitely the best." I'm thrilled to find an honest, fair, and very skilled mechanic!
Matt was so helpful and knowledgeable! I never felt like he was trying to take advantage of me and he explained things in great detail! I will never go anywhere else for my car needs!
My daughter's Jeep broke down on the interstate and I had it towed to Matt's. Matt himself spent quite a few hours trying to diagnose the problem, and he got on the phone with me multiple times to keep me informed. Unfortunately, the fix requires software that only a Jeep-Chrysler dealer has access to, so it has to go to a dealer. Despite all the time he spent trying to help me, Matt is charging me $0.00 because he couldn't fix it. I have searched for a long time to find an auto mechanic who is not only knowledgeable (as Matt definitely is) but ever more importantly, has this kind of integrity. I only wish I lived near Crozet, because Matt's would get 100% of my family's business.
I picked up my Ram2500 RV from being in storage, and the heater wasn't working. Matt answered my phone call after they closed. Squeezed me in and trouble shot my problem. Wonderful Community Business. The BEST!
I just got my inspection done here and had the best experience ever. Matts Auto shop is efficient, the staff are friendly, great customer service. Rick was the tech that helped me and he was so kind and respectful. I was so admired by his professionalism and knowledge. Besides the inspection that I got, Rick even wiped and cleaned my wipers for me. After he turned in my keys, he started to share some great tips on how to clean my windshield wipers. I went there this morning to get my vehicle inspected. One if the mechanics was rude telling me I needed to be in line for Inspection. There is no sign that states that. I was there at 7:20am. I was the first person in line at the door, before open. I parked at the front of the location. They said I needed to be in the line, that had formed after. Never going to give this place my business. I will go to NTB or somewhere else where they don't queue based on where cars are lining up.

Day Two on my second day at my brand new job in Crozet and my car tells me to pull over because my engine has overheated. I am a young woman who is a relatively new driver with no background knowledge of cars. This is the first car I have ever owned and to say I had no idea what to do was an understatement. I was able to have my car towed to Matt’s Garage where he later left me a voicemail to say that I needed a replacement water pump. This was not even on my radar as my car only had 44,000 miles on it. He was able to find the replacement part and tell me the total for all parts, diagnostics and repair. They are closed this Monday for the holiday weekend and I have already missed a day of work because of not having transportation. Not only did Matt and his wife reach out to me in a timely and professional manner to let me know the details of my car, but he stayed past his 4:30 pm closing time to finish my car and make sure that I would have a fixed car to drive to work on Monday. This business goes above and beyond for its customers, know exactly what they are doing, and are going to charge a reasonable price too. I cannot say enough good things. Thanks again!
Matt has been our mechanic for the past 5 years. His history goes beyond Matt's Automotive as he worked for Warren James for many, many years prior to taking over the business. Matt offers professional, prompt service; he is very trustworthy and knowledgeable of an array of vehicles. We have taken our old Chevrolet, a Volvo and a Volkswagen to him and never had any issues after any work has been completed. We will continue our relationship with Matt's Automotive Repair and recommend him highly in the immediate Crozet and Ivy area.
My engine started overheating while I was driving 134 miles from my home. My options at that moment were either to tow my car home and repair it there or to repair it at the closest auto repair shop. Luckily, Matt's shop was only 4 miles from my location. The owner really knows his stuff and his confidence in his work and knowledge is noteworthy. He diagnosed my problem quickly, accurately, and confidently. His team replaced my water pump within 2 hours, where the average time for this job is 2.5 hours. Though the labor cost was a bit high for me, the diagnosis and solution of my problem by him and his team were impeccable.
On a trip in Virginia my window got stuck down. Matt and his team had it fixed in under an hour and were honest about what I’d have to do in the future to prevent it from happening again but couldn’t do at the time due to our time constraints. Update 1 year and 1 repair later: Matt is a great guy and repaired our clutch for literally 1/2 what the ripoff artists at University were charging in a shorter time frame.
I have been to Matt's Auto Repair on several occasions. Just about every time when I asked for things to be fixed I was criticized about taking cars to other places to get certain work done. The idea of not badmouthing his competition is the furthest thing from Matt's mind. Matt is a seasoned salesman and clearly knows how to make you feel like he is a last resort since you made mistakes taking your car to other less qualified people in town. Be careful because you are usually going to have to pay more money to Matt when the dust settles. My experience with his work on four or five occasions is that he tells he can fix your problems and invariably finds more things to do when for one reason or another the problems are not completely repaired. While the quality of work at times has been good, I have had to go back on several occasions to get things completely fixed with additional costs. It will take a week usually to get an appointment unless it's an emergency. If they can't fix it in one day you usually have to wait another six or seven days to get the next appointment. Buyer beware it's going to be expensive to get work done there.
Matt is a good, old fashioned auto specialist but with all the modern tools and technology. Extremely happy with his work and attention to detail. He takes the time to make alternative recommendations based on the customer's budget and time. Glad I found him and I'll be back for sure.
