My experience at the Pharr Recycling Center was overall very good and professional. I was able to recycle plastic, tires, and a car battery for free. The only issue I had was that the phone number listed doesn't work; you need to call the city of Pharr to get redirected to the correct number. Despite this, I still give it a solid 4 stars.
I don't know how to drop off recycling during normal hours. The gate says authorized vehicles only. Before, I was able to pull up and it would open. Now the front drop off is only open after 5, so I've been going to the San Juan recycling center, which accepts glass, unlike Pharr.
I know that the staff at the recycling center can't always stop people from dumping trash (especially after hours/weekends), but I wish they were going after the people that do that via fines and jail time. It's awful to go there with your clean recycling and see that people have dumped construction debris, old decorations, storage tubs full of I don't even know what. Please go after these people so the word gets out for them not to do that! If that means that more cameras need to be installed, then do it! Look at downtown Pharr right now. The city has the money to do things that actually benefit the city.
