What clients say about SOHO Metal Recycling in League City (TX)

I want to start this by saying I arrived at SOHO about 8 minutes before they closed so that is clear. (dishwasher fell out of my truck so had to turn around to pick it up causing my arrival time.) When I arrived I was informed that they were closed. My truck was full of scrap, was short on money, just lost a dishwasher and needed money so I asked to be let in... still 8 minutes before closure and was reluctantly let in and it was not pleasant. My truck was quickly surrounded by 6 angry employees. While unloading they didn't separate materials, simply putting it all into the scrap iron bin ***I speak both English and Spanish and spoke to them in both*** letting them know that they were costing me money. Deaf ears. These guys were pissed off at my arrival time, made it clear by their language, their method of unloading my truck and the looks I was given. I have been recycling for years and never and I mean never have I been treated like this. I had another guy with me who recycles nothing but copper wire and also an old hand to the game and we were both in pure disbelief. After the truck was unloaded and materials began to be weighed it became obvious the employees were intentionally making my visit costly. The weights reported were off, the wire grades were off and by the time it was done SOHO cost me a little over $100.00. The ticket I received from them for my load read $54.00. I spoke to the managerand he told me that no, his employees not make mistakes. Lastly one of his employees blocked the partially blocked the driveway forcing me around half drive half grass knowing I had been cheated and with little else I could do but to help others from having the same experience. If you decide to go anyway here is some help. Firstly, arrive at least 30 minutes before they close. Second, be willing to be paid the lowest price paid out be all surrounding scrap yards. I have checked current prices and they are at the bottom. Lastly, if you are quick to anger and often find yourself in legal problems, just do not go. I gave them a two rating only because they let me in and I couldn't have gotten anywhere else. Happy New Year and may it be prosperous!

This is one of the few scrapyards in the area that actually lets you browse and purchase scrap metal for your projects, rather than just accepting drop-offs. If you're a hobbyist, fabricator, or DIYer looking for raw materials, this place is a goldmine. The selection is impressive - they have a good variety of different metals and materials to choose from, which makes it easy to find what you need for whatever project you're working on. The staff is genuinely helpful and pleasant to work with, which honestly makes a big difference when you're trying to sort through inventory and figure out what you need. The pick-and-pay model is fantastic for anyone who does metalworking, repairs, or creative projects. Instead of paying retail prices at a metal supplier, you can find exactly what you need here at scrap prices. It's refreshing to find a yard that understands and accommodates customers on both sides of the equation. Highly recommend if you're in need of affordable metal materials. Will definitely be back for future projects.

The staff are always helpful and easy to work with. I found the dryer part I needed in less than 10 minutes, very good price.

Very nice, I definitely like that the readout for the scale is in a huge, very visible, screen - easy to see from across the building They double checked the metal I brought in (the guy carried a small magnet with him just for this) and pulled out some that I didn't realize were aluminum - which is a much higher return Overall, I'm impressed

Robert the owner is amazing. He is a man of his word and he truly will help you find the right items you need and give you a fair price for any metal. I will continue to go back!

overstated my tare weight, so instead of getting $0.56 per lb., for my cans, got less than 20. Be sure to watch the scales. Friendly service

[As of my latest visits to SOHO, management seemed to have taken care of the inaccuracy issues by setting up a system with a monitor that shows the weight on the scale. Also set up a queuing area to keep customers at distance from the dangers of a forklift and sharp objects. I raised my review from 1 to 3 and will continue to raise my review over time as I visit as long as ai do not find any discrepancies.] They are under new ownership now and tried to pull a fast one on me. They weighed my container and hauled it away before I got to see the scale. The attendant said I said 141 lbs in aluminum. I asked for the container to be brought back to the scale. She said, "Are you calling me a liar?" I said no I just want to see the weight for myself. Turned out I had 342 lbs. of aluminum. That is not a small error... They blamed it on some mud stuck to the container. I got the right amount of money in the end but the low grade is for being dishonest. No excuse for that kind of "mistake".

Needed a small piece of angle iron and they came through. Everyone was very helpful and the yard boss told me where I could find the scrap. Everything was organized well and the workers were very mindful of safety while I was walking around. Within 5 minutes I found what I needed. Great customer service and a handshake to boot. I will definitely be coming back.

This place is great. I just needed a few scraps for a brace. Found what I needed quickly and excellent quality and service. I’m recommending this place 10 out of 10. Best metal recycling.

I hate leaving reviews like this, but I feel obligated to just put this out there. I broke down my old piano and took the cast iron piano plate to this place (took out all the strings, detached all the wood - it was just the cast iron plate). Now I had no way to weight it in advance, so I don't have an exact measurement of my own to compare against, but I am suspicious of the total weight they gave of 191 pounds. I know my own strength; I should have been able to lift the entire plate myself if that were the true weight; as it was, I had to break it into two large pieces with a sledgehammer so I could load it into the truck. That issue aside, they knocked off a further 57 pounds for something called "tare", which as best I can tell is just an adjustment for "packaging". I didn't package anything, I just gave them the cast iron plate broken into two large pieces. So I got paid 7 cents a pound for a net 134 pounds for $9.38. I've never done this before and they sort of rushed me through without explaining anything. Also the guy who took the cast iron plate from me didn't seem to believe me when I told him it was cast iron (which it clearly was), and it didn't help that there was a language barrier. Cast iron should be a fairly rudimentary material for someone in the metal recycling business to be able to identify. I don't really care about my getting shorted four bucks (and possibly a lot more, relatively speaking) but it makes me wonder. At the very best - and I prefer this to be the true explanation - it was a very, very, very shoddy experience.

Great business! We drove up, a gentleman told us he would be with us in a moment. Then he came back, unloaded the scrap metal . All we had to do was go into the office and collect our money

Their concrete driveway is absolutely terrible at the entrance by design. It has the worst grade. You will bottom out in a truck and worse in a car. Long, grinding on the underbody. Do not pull in. Trash everywhere. You will damage your vehicle. Hated coming here after pulling in. Damaged my car coming in and leaving.

SoHo Metal Recycling is fabulous - they really saved the day! Needed an old wrought iron fence hauled away asap and they showed up same day, worked in the rain, and wouldn't even let me lend a hand (thank you!). These guys were timely, professional and complete gentlemen. Please know you're all much appreciated.

Been using this place for years and never had any problems. Workers are good and helpful to unload your vehicle. Never had a problem with the numbers on the scale. I have weight mystuff before just to see if they are being fair and they are. If you any problems with the scale read out then you should tell them before they pay you, not after they pay you. Keep up the good work guys!

The older man in the yellow hard hat called out the numbers lower than what they were! I’m clearly looking at the scale as you are. Got cheated! Not sure if he thought because I was a woman, I couldn’t read…would’ve went to TC but they were closed.

Came out and brought dumpster with forklift to our truck right away and began unloading. Another gentleman then joined to also help unload the 400 lbs of scrap. Very easy experience.

I love these folks every time I come in they're fast they're friendly they give me good prices as opposed to a lot of the others around here for instance some recyclers give you four cents a pound for say brake rotors and they give you eight cents a pound for brake rotors cuz that's the going rate well today anyway. Don't get screwed by other scrap metal places come to Soho and actually get with your metals worth

Nice people, easy to deal with. Better to recycle than landfill and get some $$ for it! Watch out for the hump at the driveway entrance, I bent the tongue jack on my trailer pulling out. Go slow and at an angle.

Was ripped off by these people, they will rip you of , wrote ticket so bad I couldn’t even tell what was what and shoved the money out the slot and walked away without saying a word, had to chase him down and get him to show me what he wrote. And sure enough he had changed 2 of the amounts and left off several other metals. So if you like getting ripped off this is the place to go.
Feb 10, 2021 -
I was really disappointed in the overall experience. None of the amounts were correct and they even "forgot" to add everything up. I had to go back and show them the mistakes. I know all of the weights were wrong because I had already been somewhere and had everything weighed and knew what was what. At this salvage yard stainless steel is considered metal, aluminum doors are considered metal and anything else that they can get cheaper. I would not recommend this place unless you're just not interested in getting paid
