Best site ever. The people are so much nicer than Knightsville. And you dont have to jump through hoops to drop your garbage. Always seems so easy. It is further for me to drive but its heads over tails from the other sites in Dorchester County.
The latest improvements in the site are excellent! The staff truly cares about our residents, are very friendly and knowledgeable. They are like the good neighbor next door!
Staff there are always very helpful. I'd thank them all if I could. In the heat and cold weather, this can be a tough assignment. So thanks to all of you!
Great experience. Was visiting my son in Ladson and needed to take off waste oil from oil changes in his cars. Guy was super nice, offered to help me, didn't have to show anything. I do have a Trump sticker on my truck, so he knew I was not a liberal. So he was extra nice.
The establishment is pretty straightforward, with no complications upon arrival. I pulled immediately to the right & parked my ? in the middle lane to get used motor oil out of my trunk.
At one point, I forgot which container transmission fluid goes in since it's been so long that I've disposed of it myself, but an employee activated her Spidey Senses, walked over, & refreshed my memory; it literally goes in the same oil drum ??.
We recycle metal cans,paper,plastic, cardboard boxes, other metal items like bikes, they accept appliances, wood, tile, mattresses and trash and used oil. I stop in a lot because I am 5 minutes away. The people are always helpful and great to talk to. We love it.
I have been using them for my recycling experience for years can't say anything but great about them. The people are helpful and friendly. So glad they are my recycling center.
Saturday at 10:00 and they weren’t open. No indication on the website or Google site that they’d be closed. I have a truck full of trash and nowhere to dump it. It takes 2 seconds to update your page.
Update (many months later on 11/18/23): Today there was a long long line of vehicles trying to get to the ramps. When I got to the staff member who was holding up traffic, he asked for my Drivers License. I asked if this was a new policy. He said no. I said I’ve been living here for 18 years and this is the first time this has been asked. On a busy Saturday why do they have to do this? It seems a waste of everyone’s time.
1 star because it actually exists.
1 more because, if you know their deal, you can drop trash there.
Before my first trip, I wish someone told me....
--You should get there at least an hour before close. They knock off, lock the entrance and turn people away about 30 minutes before the posted close time.
--You need to be savvy enough not to allow a person who selected to trade their time for sitting outside around trash give you any problems -- At all -- Your taxes pay for this.
--You should only use a car or pickup truck bed unless you are an expert on their rules regarding trailers, containers, cmcl trucks etc. They like to get first timers with that one.
***Do NOT engage the site people. This only affords them an opportunity to push their favorite button: "cant dump here"***
The place is simple and clean. Staff is friendly, and I understand why other people gave it five stars. It should be used as a model for other sites. Keep up the good work.
I had a few computer batteries and an AC capacitor that needed disposing. This was my first time to this yard... Otherwise, I've always gone up to Knightsville. This yard was awesome. It was cleaned, easy to navigate, and clearly marked. A gentleman with a silver mustache exited the front office with a cheerful smile and asked if he could help me find anything. I told him what I was discarding and he said just to leave it on his table and he would take care of it for me. He joked with me a little and I thanked him. I didn't even get this warm of a welcome in Knightsville. Top-notch customer service in a place I wasn't expecting it, especially these days. Thank you.
Showed up w a UHaul after cleaning out my garage only to be told to leave the property bc UHaul aren’t allowed on the property. Rude staff!! So Dorchester county doesn’t pick up trash in my neighborhood and I can’t rent a UHaul to take it to the dump. So what’s the alternative Dorchester county?! I do pay property taxes here!
I use this site every weekend the staff is always helpful and pleasant. You can even dispose of paint cans in the trash compactor. They have dumpsters for metal, trash, cardboard, plastic, glass, paper, and cans.
Easy, clean, and friendly folks. Also one of only a few places to recycle antifreeze. Convenience is great, recycle used oil/antifreeze, then walk over and recycle the plastic containers too, which I'm unable to do at auto part stores. Thank you!
I go here often.. if you live in the county, you have to pay for pickup of recycling and regular garbage so this FREE facility is great. The workers there have always been helpful, and you can dispose of anything (except a dead body...). Its basically on the way to Walmart, so pretty cknvenient..just drive through, toss, and leave.. good place to recycle batteries and oil changes also.
It's really busy now that everybody is home. Please allow extra time when you plan on going, be kind and thank the employees. Remember they are there all day to help you!
First time ever going here and it a little on the hectic side. People waiting in the median until it opened at 9am. When you pull in there is someone that you tell what you're dropping off and they tell you where you go.
We were just dropping off cans and there was a man in front of us doing the same thing. He had his car parked right in front of the dumpster where you drop off the cans. So we parked behind him and unloaded our cans. The woman says to my husband that he was holding up the line and that he needed to move the car.
Mind you she waited until the WHITE guy in front of us finished dumping his cans and drove off, but said something to my BLACK husband. She didn't say anything to the WHITE people that pulled up after us and did the same thing.
Staff has always been helpful and friendly. Some of you reviewing are just rude. These people are working in the elements collecting your trash. Show some consideration. I am personally very grateful for them and the county for offering this FREE service to us to keep pollution under control.
Lately the bins are put so close to the road (or someone stops in the middle) that cars cannot get around each other. Put the bins closer to the fence line. The one lane traffic backs up onto Old Fort for a significant amount of time. The staff could better direct traffic or prevent people from blocking two lanes so that the cars move through easily. Oh, one household garange container on a Saturday is nuts. The pal e is too busy on a Saturday to have just one.
Its a dump. Generally decently staffed but remember some people there are court ordered to be there. Its important to be patient when you come here. Pay attention and move with the flow and everything goes fine.
Staff are sometimes helpful but not friendly. There's an older guy who is more friendly than all the others, very pleasant.
There are posted open & close times. Majority of the time they close up 10 minutes prior to noted closing time. I've witness this for the pass several years. I know they want off like anyone else. But if the sign says CLOSE at 6pm then the gates shouldn't be closed until 6:00PM. Some residents don't leave work till 5-5:30.
It is fairly well organized on where to drop off normal everyday items. There is also another area for dropping off other items. Recommend bringing something to cut with if you have cardboard boxes, they need to be flat.
