What clients say about Tri-State Scrap in Harrisburg (PA)

No issues, friendly staff. I guess their price is the best on town for aluminum cans. The only issue is the Google maps directions. The place is a bit past Maclay, but Google maps puts it a couple of blocks further. The exit is right across Oak Street and the entrance is at the uniform shop.

It's a nice place to scrap. They have help there they help you unload your car and get rid of the scrap. The steel piles a little muddy, but at this time of year there's a lot of rain. So that's expected, but other than that, a good place. Pays a little less than 1 or 2 of the others. But like I said a good place. They help you there un load your car. And load everything onto the scale for you unlike others that pay more, they don't help you at all so tit-for-tat. I liked it.

After my experience this morning, I just had to write a review about this awesome business, with friendly, service oriented employees and very nice prices. What impressed me most was the answers to my questions about how Tru-State bundles its aluminum, and ships to local mills and ports! The explanations from the gentleman was concise and I was impressed about how well he knows the business! There are other recyclers in the area, but I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

So want to take a moment out of my busy schedule to drop a review on this business as I feel that's very important since reviews go a long ways these days to help other people decide if they should use that business or not. First of all I am not a scrapper I have a professional career and work very hard at it however I grew up in the country and we recycled to help the environment and also saved and separated our medals over a period of time to take a trailer load once we had enough to a scrap yard to get money for it to help pay for things since my parents were not rich. To this day I still do the same thing, I have a recycling can for most things but I do save medals and I have a corner of a shed I stash everything in which I take for scrap once I have enough to make it worthwhile. Had been to this place several years ago and did not have a bad experience so since the normal place I went to was now closed on Saturday I read reviews on this place as well as several others in the area to try and decide which was the best place to go. I also called several places to get rates and very honestly Tri-State was offering $0.75 per pound on aluminum cans as were most others were offering $0.50 per pound which is a significant difference!! Also they were open until 2:00 p.m. which most others closed by 11:00 or noon. I am a professional driver for a small well-known local company and work a lot of hours so Saturday is pretty much my only opportunity to get certain things done and that being said I also do not want to have to get up super early in the morning to do so since I do pretty much every other day of the week! After doing my research and making a few phone calls I decided to try this place again. Quickly loaded my trailer that I just bought and I also made sure to keep everything separated as best as I could on the trailer. I got to the location and they were not super busy when I got in line and since I had straps and tarps on my trailer I used the time in line to undo that stuff so that when it was my turn to unload I was not wasting anybody's time as this is what flatbedders have to do when they're waiting in line to get loaded or unloaded. Once inside I explained to the gentleman what I had and I did have a corner of the trailer with multiple metals I was unsure of. Also want to mention as I was loading the trailer I used a bathroom scale which I placed on a solid level piece of wood to try and get a rough estimate of weight I was delivering just to make sure I was not getting scammed as I did read a couple really bad reviews however that being said some people are just out in life to give bad reviews to everybody!! I have to say I could have not had a better experience these people were very professional very polite very helpful and help me to sort through the metal I was in sure of and put it into the proper bins and also kept track of the weights while doing so. I had to unload all of my aluminum cans first since I had most of the trailer filled with them and then I pulled back around and got in line and went through the building again to unload the rest which I was fine with since I had a whole trailer load of stuff. This being said my weight when aluminum cans was estimated to be around 175 lb when they dumped all of my cans the weight they had on their scale was just over 200 lb!! Obviously I knew using a bathroom scale was going to have some variance but I had read reviews where other people were claiming they messed with the weights and I beg to differ I believe their skills are very accurate and they are very fair!! Obviously if my metal weighed 25 lb more at their facility I can't argue with the numbers. I walked out with about $210 for a 4x6 trailer load which also was not stacked more than 4 ft high. Please use your own judgment but I have a hard time believing any of the bad reviews here after having such a great experience and feeling like I was well paid for my hard work!! The people leaving horrible reviews probably deserve some themselves and maybe should show up with a better attitude next time!

My recent review was left out of complete frustration. I was confronted personally and asked why I felt that way. I tell you what Damian and Shawn discussed the matter along with the head management and they reassured that the situation would NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!!!! I've nothing but amazing experiences with the staff, feels like they are my best friends and all are professional and HONEST!!!!

what kind of place advertises they are open till 2p, and then all stand around doing nothing and say NO we wont take anyone after 1:45. and they were all rude about it.i got there at 1:49!!!!! What topped it off was sitting there trying to find somewhere else they let someone else in the exit door and served him. called for carbide price when every scrap yard offering 5.50 - 6.50. they said they would give $2.30!!!!!!! DONOT GO THERE!!!!!!!!!!! CSR block over and honest...ZEROOOOOOOO STARS!!!!!

Good place to take metals, easier to deal with than csr, but keep getting screws in my tires by the steel pile

Decent prices and longer hours than most these past few months. If you have non ferrous metals and are nearby, Tri State is the place to go. If you're scrapping shredder steel, don't bring on a rainy day or a day after much rain It's a mud pit. Had a few screws in tires from here. Non ferrous is not a problem. It's all paved or concrete.

Pros: Competitive pricing. Cons: Customer service wasn't the best. ordered 95 gal bins and when the truck driver came (with an attitude mind you) he only had 3- 64 gal bins. When finished drive issued a receipt but had no total amount on it. Called company twice and was told that invoice is issued out a week after appointment and they don't know how much it will be YET. I asked about online payment options was told that can mail a check then another person told me that they are in the process of getting "modernized". Forgot to add this was a government work order request.. definitely will do further research next time.

We have been to a few of the recycling companies in the Harrisburg area, and Tri-State is an absolute winner. On the one hand, at the competitors locations we had pretty consistent unhelpful and unfriendly interactions, that I won't even raise to calling these interactions "assistance." Enter Tri-State. We had a question about re-cycling a water heater, so I sent an email and received a response within an hour or so. So we loaded up. It is easy to find where to go, with all of the arrows pointing the way. We were met by Mike who was friendly and explained what we needed to do. The guy who helped us weighing the scrap (sorry, didn't get his name) was efficient and told us where to put each of the different types of metal we brought. And then, getting our cash was a piece of cake, and the young lady at the window, (And I didn't get HER name either, bummer), actually walked me through the process. Most people don't recycle scrap very often, so having real assistance is priceless. Tri-State did a great job. Our experience was excellent!
