this place is so unprofessional and predatory. they circle around lower income areas snatching up absolutely anything they can find — even going as far as taking cars from people’s own driveways for stupid things like expired tags — and nc state’s campus preying on college students! my bf’s car got towed from a lot with the tiniest sign that wasn’t visible in the dark. he called ace towing and the lady on the phone told him he needed to “lose the attitude” before they would help him. he was not rude or disrespectful in any way, simply a bit frustrated which is completely reasonable after some jerks steal your car! once we get into their tiny office the man at the desk barely speaks to my bf and ignores his questions. my bf asked for a copy of the report (i.e. what time they towed the car, pictures of it before they towed) and mentioned wanting to make sure there was no new damage on his car. towing companies are known for being sloppy with their work and not really caring about if they damage cars, so this made perfect sense. the worker got very defensive and was so appalled by the fact that my bf would even think of that question. he was very rude and dismissive of all reasonable questions we asked. additionally, he mentioned that he did not put the car in neutral before towing! i know literally nothing about cars, but even I know rule number one of towing a car is to put it in neutral! i mean come on! they charged over $300 for this crap! it totally ruined our sunday after church.

How is anyone supposed to get ahead in this world when they're getting their car stolen and ransomed back to them for $300?
Oct 11, 2025 -
Good customer service but very expensive. $300 for a tow is pretty ridiculous

I got a call that a car I’m financing to someone has been towed, so I call up to Ace towing to figure out the cost and schedule a time to pick the car up! They told me it would be $365 and I told them ok I’ll be up there in a couple hours to retrieve the car. I get to Ace’s to pick the car up at 11:00pm and the guy wouldn’t allow me to pick the car up! The manager at Ace lied told me the police put a hold on my vehicle, so they can’t release it to me(not to mention I drove from 2 hours away)! So I do some digging to figure out what’s going on! I gave Raleigh police department a call to get some info on the so called “hold” and the officer was confused saying there was never a hold on your vehicle and I don’t know why the Ace employee/manager would say that! I’ll be taking them to court soon ‼‼ -PS They tried to charge me for everyday it sat there after they lied to me and said it was a hold on the vehicle and I can’t get it back.. BAD PEOPLE TO DEAL WITH ‼

They'll charge you $304.50 to get your car back after they steal it. Hope you step on a bunch of legos. Parked from 7-10 in a lot that said no overnight parking, ca.e back to my car towed. Had to wait for someone to show up to pay a king's ransom for my car they stole.

I woke up one day to find my car had been towed from my apartment complex? Why, you might ask. Was I parked in a fire lane? No. Was I in a handicap space? No. My tags were "expired," except my registration had been renewed in April 2025. The sticker was just not on the car. According to ACE, the apartment complex authorized this tow. And to be sure, I am already speaking with an attorney about it. They can expect a small claims court date. There were other cars in the complex with expired tags, and the lease says they provide a 24 hour notice on the car if it will be towed due to being "unregistered." My problem with ACE is that even if I could prove my car was registered, I would still have pay the towing fee. I asked day of how much it would cost. About $250. I didnt have that amount of expendable money since I am in college to be a teacher and I work 2 jobs. I planned to pick it up the day I got paid. The person from ACE who I called failed to mention the daily rate. So, I now owe $375 after waiting a few days to be able to afford it. It is absolutely baffling how it is legal to steal someone's property like this. These people are not the police; they should not be attempting to do police work. If the police had been the ones to monitor my car's registration, they would see that it is registered and give me a warning about the missing tag. This towing company, and my apartment complex, most certainly engages in "predatory towing." Good luck to all whose car is wrongfully towed. Definitely investigate your legal rights. And publicize the wrongdoing- WRAL has a segment called 5 on your side.

I won't bash them too bad since they are all sketchy to me but they did tow my car after it being there only a few hours. I may or may not of been in the right spots to park but the real issue is when you go back to get your car and it's way more then the original price. I got home and looked up what a normal person would be charged with and their fees where way bigger then I have paid. they overcharged on the tow and added a re tow it was 300 to it so Donr buy pre rolls cargo shorts from now on and watch them as you are

Predatory towing at its finest. I stepped inside my apartment for 5 minutes to grab something, parked briefly in the handicap spot right in front of my own front door—no obstruction, no traffic, no one needing the space—and came back out to see my car halfway towed. I had to pay a $120 drop fee just to stop them from dragging it away. I get the law. I get the rules. But let’s not pretend this wasn’t a money grab. No warning. No grace. No common sense. Just a tow truck lying in wait to exploit technicalities. If you’re looking for companies that serve the community, look elsewhere. This isn’t protection. It’s a hustle.

Ace Towing has been a pleasure from an HOA management perspective. I know nobody likes their cars being towed. But from a property management perspective if cars are parked in a HOA community that should not be in a location for any given reason, Ace is quick to go tag the cars with appropriate notice and return for the appropriate towing. Morgan is my contact, and she replies immediately to any message or call. Morgan has worked with me multiple times to coordinate paving project towing needs as well, to ensure that preplanned projects go smoothly after notice has been given to the community. I have no reason to not highly recommend Ace for any HOA community towing needs.

I attended a two-hour event and came back to find my car—and over 15 others—towed from the same lot. $300 to retrieve a car is an outrageous, exploitative fee. The towing staff were smug, unapologetic, and clearly taking advantage of a setup designed to trap people. People who do not have $300 could be trapped in an unfamiliar place. The lot had poor signage at best. It’s not acceptable to snatch dozens of cars like this at once unless your goal is to profit off people in distress. This isn’t public safety—this is capitalism at its slimiest. If you’re thinking of working with this towing company, ask yourself: do you want to align with people who profit off confusion, vulnerability, and desperation?

***UPDATE TO PREVIOUS REVIEW: the owners response is inaccurate. The majority of the reviews on here speak to the ethics of the company. Also pay attention to who writes the review because… “While the majority of Local Guide reviews are likely legitimate, there's a possibility that some are fake or misleading. Local Guides earn points and rewards for contributing reviews, which could incentivize some to write reviews for places they haven't actually visited, or to exaggerate their experiences”- from Google ACE TOWING REMOVED MY REVIEW…. So I’m leaving it again. Apparently they didn’t like reading the truth about their low brow towing company. They use predatory practices and send out scouts in the middle of the night to look for the smallest parking infraction. YOU CAN GET YOUR MONEY BACK. TELL YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY THEY USE PREDATORY PRACTICES AND YOU HAD TO PAY UNDER DURESS!!!! That’s the first step. They will reimburse you. My son had an expired plate and was waiting on his sticker with proper paper work in the vehicle. He was staying at my sister’s house for a total of 8 hours so he could catch a flight out of Raleigh. We were able to obtain a video from a neighbor and we saw that at 11pm a scout making his rounds of the parking lot. At 2am the tow truck removed the vehicle. At 4am my son and his wife went to drive to the airport and the car is gone. The next day my husband called the towing company (where the education pool is just high enough to know how to pull a few towing facts off the internet) and the charge for picking it up was $250. We explained that the payment for updated plate was in the vehicle but the rude employee just laughed which is why we went in full force after that. We filed a complaint to the community HOA and they said that after several complaints about ACE TOWING they decided to FIRE THEM FROM THE COMMUNITY. The most ignorant bunch you’ll ever have to deal with if you get towed. But in our case it was a win. They lost the community towing rights and we also got our money back thru our Amex. Keep fighting against this scam company. ALSO POSTING THE PICTURE OF THEM HAVING TO REMOVE THEIR SIGN FROM THE COMMUNITY hahahaha!!

My kids went to a concert last night and you sat there and watched them park and then towed their car. When the sign was on the ground, we have a picture of it! Not just 1 or 2 cara but 6 cars! Yo towed 16 year old cars! Maybe because y'all were broken, y'all needed money.

Nice guys no complaints other than I wish my car would stay in Raleigh a little bit longer before getting shipped to Linden. I understand the logistics of the situation though so no fault to them, they let me get my belongings so I’m happy

Dispatch guy was unbelievable unhelpful - told me a time to go to the business and pick up my car, conveniently forgot to tell me that *nobody was actually at the business* so I had to wait outside in the cold for an hour. $200+ charge to retrieve my car is extortionist rates. You don't actually provide a service to society - this business model is to turn working people into leeches for rich people.

Had this company tow my truck when I was in an accident. It was my fault, not under the influence, nothing else involved. Just had them tow the truck to my home. Driver loaded the truck onto the rollback, I showed back up on scene, he asked me to follow him. He dissapeared taking a weird route apparently to my home. Upon receiving the truck, both front floor Matt's are missing, a rosary given to me by my sons passed away mother and a halloween mask, Jason theatrical. Contacted the company and they claim nothing was stolen, naturally. Worst part is, my family has a very good relationship with Kim the owner, my mother in law used to clean her home. There are many more things that could be said given that relationship but don't need be. I just want my items back! I will be filing a complaint with the BBB whom I have a very good working relationship with in the raleigh area. Also with the police department for theft out of my vehicle. Do not trust this company. When called for an explanation Kim said there is no reason and hung up in me. These guys are theives and have always been known to be. Another employee named Jeremy used to sell people cd players, and radar detection equipment out of the cars for side money. He's now part of the office team. Don't use ACE!!!

It;s a predotory towing company also they are prejudice to foreigners. They towed maintanence truck who was working on my unit. The worker was trying to explain at his best (as he is a foreign) that he is working on apaprtment at that moment but the towing guy was laughting at him and than demanded cash. In the HOA rules states that the workers cars does not have to have stickers. Shame on this company. Very bad experience.

First off! YOU CAN GET YOUR MONEY BACK. TELL YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY THEY USE PREDATORY PRACTICES AND YOU HAD TO PAY UNDER DURESS!!!! I was at a concert tonight, where they use predatory towing practices for vehicles… at least 15 cars were towed! when I called to see if my car was there. I informed them that I knew about the North Carolina towing laws and that they were charging access fees of $100. They charge a total of $255 in order to get your car back however according to North Carolina policies, the max amount that a towing company can charge unconsented is $150, I have advise them of this and I told them that they are illegally charging me these fees I also asked for an itemized bill that they could not provide, which is also illegal all it said it was private park Parking violation $255 which is not itemized fee. I told them that I was going to report it to the attorney General, they told me I was wasting my time, but unfortunately for them I do have the documentation of it being illegal and I will be reporting this to the better business bureau using that information… best of luck to yall & for the lady filing a class action Please rack out to me! I’d like to join.

ATTENTION!!! Beware!!!! ATTENTION!!!! PLEASE READ SO YOU NEVER HAVE TO GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR . Ace Towing runs the contract for Costco parking lot in Raleigh. This area has a concert venue called the Ritz. It's a very small venue. Parking is a joke in the area. If there is even parking they now charge 15 bucks to park at the venue if available. Most people find parking in the area and walk because you have no other choice. I'm 41 and it's been a couple years since I've been to a show there but most people especially on a Sunday show in which this was the case. Park at Costco. It's a huge store and a huge parking lot. They wish they could fill it and never will. Anyway they apparently tow now if you park there for a show. How would you know this ?? Most don't because they have 2 signs posted at each entrance but in the wrong direction. Signs you never see because while driving you need to see them looking out your front wind shield. Not looking out your left or right window. The signs are too far from the entrance so there hardly even relevant signs. When you enter the parking lot. 100k square foot. Not a single sign within the parking lot. They are towing 15 people minimum on a Sunday night. You got confused people walking around a parking lot thinking there cars got stolen. Most people don't intentionally park in a no parking area. This is so bluntly a scam. 250.00 buck a pop at a people is near about 4k. The whole process is scripted from start to finish. Lady on the phone prepared to tell you how much of a criminal you must be to park the Costco with basically zero signage. When the actual criminal act is taking place. They are basically stealing cars and extortion. ACE Towing and Costco are willing participants because the towing company literally admitted that they have a lack of sign or that people steal the signs. Like that's my problem. No actually it's a Costco problem. The City of Raleigh has signage requirements for commercial spaces for a reason. So this very exact bull crap doesn't go on. Costco is a willing participant in this extortion by not providing the proper signage. It's your company. If you don't want people to park there. You have a minimum requirement. This falls well below any requirement I've ever seen. I've seen shops with max 4 spaces of parking with more no parking signs than all of Costco. I'm going to talk to a district manager of Costco. If I don't hear we need to look into this further. My next stop. City of Raleigh. If they don't want to handle it. I'll talk to the D.A. and let them decide whether or not the shady towing company is running an extortion scheme. The towing company experience was rehearsed, obviously common enough that it should be a red flag. 15 cars should not be getting towed from 1 location in a span of 4 hrs. I was out of the venue at 11pm. It takes awhile to tow that many cars so this is premeditated. They know and willing participant in this behavior. This company is in the worst part of town. So you have groups of people, strangers getting ubers together to go get there cars for 250. A pop. The guys working the desk are like complaining zombies that are aggressively running credit cards. Ohhh no I'm so sorry you had to take my 250 bucks. It's such a bad experience it's comical. They are printing money with this whole situation and yet you will never run across more rude and depressed people. Money doesn't buy happiness for this rag tag operation. I'm pursuing this out of duty. Duty to the fine people of the City of Raleigh. This is unacceptable for people to have to accept this obviously flawed policy Costco is trying under advertise and overly enforce. They towed a Costco member as well who wasn't even apart of the whole situation. His car just wouldn't start. This is a Sunday. Imagine the chaos on Friday and Saturday nights. That venue is open all week. This is illegal and needsto be put to an end. Predatory behavior 100 percent

This towing company mis- represented their prices and then lied on a public review in response to my wife. The driver that picked up the car said that there was no cost to tow the car to the yard. This was not true. He didn’t ask us any questions. He just said that it will be towed to the yard for free, when in reality the truth is that they would usually just charge the insurance company. We were not told this and had no idea until I had to go and pay $600 when it would have only been 250 to tow it to our house from the crash initially if they represented themselves correctly. Honestly whether intentional or unintentional they took advantage of us in a difficult time and then did not own up to THEIR employees mistake. After my wife left a review they blatantly lied and said that I told the drive that I had full coverage. THIS IS NOT TRUE the driver and I never spoke more than what I have stated here. I am not trying to get out of paying money or anything like that. I just would not have had my vehicle towed to their yard if again THEIR employee had not spoken falsely. The man in the office even in our conversation tried to misconstrue what was said that night and I had to repeatedly correct him. I just wish that they would own up to their mistake and not blatantly lie to my wife who has just been in a car wreck.

UPDATED EDIT: There was no insurance confusion, despite Ace-Towing's misleading reply. My husband NEVER communicated to any Ace-Towing employee in or out of the office that we have "full-coverage" insurance because we have ALWAYS been completely aware we only have liability coverage. What my husband did communicate to the OFFICE personnel, not the tow driver, was that our insurance would be reimbursing us if it is confirmed the man who hit me was uninsured. Secondly, the driver never even asked what kind of insurance we have, so I'm not sure where they came up with that excuse. What truly caused the confusion was the misrepresentation of towing options and respective prices by Ace-Towing's driver, as I stated in my original posting below. There was NO TRANSPARENCY UPRONT! That's a complete and utter lie. So, despite Ace's misrepresentative attempt to validate a company mistake with a public reply, they have still failed to correct the mistake or at least apologize for the confusion created by their driver, and have failed to operate with integrity to a higher degree. To Ace Towing, if you actually want to be helpful, instead of providing Google replies with false information, you may call me anytime and personally apologize, or better yet, reimburse us for the intial tow fee you never should have charged us for. You have my number, and my invoice records as depicted below. The ball is truly in your court. Original Review: TO ANYONE WHO WAS JUST IN AN ACCIDENT AND NEEDS A WRECKER: BEWARE!!! If i could give 0 stars, I would. When I was recently involved in a T-Bone accident, the police officer who responded to our call called this company. The driver, Anthony Coonrodela, although very respectful and kind, completely mislead and intentionally deceived my husband and I regarding the towing rates of this company. We INITIALLY REQUESTED him to tow our vehicle to our house, to which he responded that it would be a FREE TOW CHARGE to take it to Ace Towing’s lot, where insurance could come and evaluate the damage, but if we wanted it towed to our residence the night of the accident, the $250 tow fee would apply. Fast forward to now, we need our vehicle towed to our residence, and we are being charged TWO TOW FEES ($500 total, one for Anthony bringing our car to their yard and one to bring it from their yard to our residence) PLUS FOUR DAYS OF STORAGE FEES. The best the office employee could do was give us a puny $80 discount - which doesn’t even cover the two storage days their office was CLOSED after we were originally told we could access our vehicle ANYTIME!! You would think this company, being founded by a former police sergeant, would operate with integrity, honoring their pricing as communicated by THEIR OWN COMPANY DRIVER!! Now, we’re out more than double what we would have been had we refused Anthony’s offer and simply had our vehicle towed to our place the night of the accident. I sincerely hope your company makes this right. Lesson learned - never again will I use Ace Towing or allow any family member or friend to deal with this shady business.

Terrible customer service experience. The woman assigned to help us came out of a call with our HOA and proceeded to berate my wife. She also threatened to charge us full price (when previously agreed to half) due to my wife’s “attitude” when she was really just quiet and frustrated at having her car towed. The only positive experience was the woman working the front desk who was nice… and the dog.

~sigh~ I did a *kinda* smart thing and got played by the universe. I celebrated my 21st birthday, had a drink and a shot —that’s it, I’m lightweight. I was going to attempt to drive home, but as I rounded the corner, I felt extremely uncomfortable with that so I parked at a mcds since it was the closest thing I could get into on that street. I go to a friends place, eat, drink water, rest (not sleep). And I’m feeling much better, so I mosey on down to where I parked my car — gone. Absolutely nowhere to be found. Tried calling non-emergency, had to wait an hour before the system could tell me where my car was. I call again… Ace! Of course, why wouldn’t these shady pickpockets have it? Just my luck. I drive a small sedan. An old one, at that. Why is my bill 240 (cash)/252 (card)?!? To go 3 miles (YES, THREE MILES) from where I parked, to the tow yard. And it was only for a few hours, not an entire day by the time I had called. Yes, I did my *light* research in this company, and also finding the average for towing and mileage. ~150 is definitely the more reasonable price for a standard tow to go 3 miles. So, I go to pick up my car and ask “why is it 240?” “That’s the fee” the man quickly replies. As if he had it down pat, practiced and all. Didn’t skip a beat. Asked for my ID — that’s it. Nothing else. No proof of insurance, no proof of ownership. Literally nothing else. I even asked if he wanted them, he said no. While he got my id, he didn’t ask for my proof of ownership. Even tho he probably ran my name thru the system, it’s still required by law to ask for proof of ownership. At this point, it’s about 7:45am. I was just waiting for sun-up, haven’t slept, haven’t had anything other than the lil snacks n water, I’m tired n don’t even feel like fighting it. I just wanted my car back, so I give him my id and he takes a photo. THEN he goes inside to get a receipt, and came out with it filled out BEFORE i even paid for it. It actually says “paid,” meaning he wrote it while I was still entering my information for the payment to process (that is on me, I’m not a morning person even with sleep). I didn’t even ask for the invoice to be itemized. The invoice has literally one thing on it. This is not computing at all. This has sent me back so much, and all I wanted to do was be safe for myself and others. Parking in mcds might have not been the best choice, but it’s far better than driving buzzed, even if it’s only 15 minutes. No wonder this place is considered “predatory” it’s an absolute disgrace. And as i read these reviews and replies, some said tows are 150 (like this one from only a month ago), some said 200 (those were MORE than a month ago). 240 is outrageous, shady , and it’s not making sense. Happy birthday to me. Edit/reply: 1) I was downtown, where parking IS free on the side of the street after 8pm (?) and on the weekends, signs say it. Thus, your claim of “no free parking” is incorrect. Not only was it after 8, but it was also the weekend. 2) under influence, I didn’t think I could park straight without lines. Didn’t want to have my car tilted on a street, and someone hit it bc I parked like a lunatic. Like I said, that parking lot was the closest thing, and I asked the manager if it was ok (not claiming they’re above the law, here) 3) yes, I also did my research on “breaking the law” with reason. Even called the non-emergency to ask. Lo and behold, my reason is valid for safety, considering the circumstances. I may not know everything but asking questions, using google, and calling people is free. So, while I “learned my lesson,” I hope you get it together quickly. Because you still failed to touch on how one of YOUR people broke the law while I was getting my car, wrote the receipt BEFORE it was paid, and the fact that your replies to others on here are incredibly inconsistent… you live up to your bad rep.

The driver was about to tow business box truck and he went inside truck without permission. He was being very rude and looked like he’s on drugs! There’s paperwork from customers and financial statements as well! He charged $250 basically for nothing!

Towed my car while I was sleeping, which was parked in MY assigned space in front of the home I own and live in, saying that there was no parking tag. The tag had fallen into the passenger floorboard and was clearly visible through the window. My very sick dog had a vet appt this morning which I had to cancel as I had no car. Guess these guys were bored on a rainy Tuesday in downtown Raleigh and told their crew "Let's go make some money by towing disabled ladies' cars out of their assigned parking spaces". Lived here 6 years and I've never seen them come anywhere near our lot. ACE was rude and said only that they "had a contract". Not anymore ACE. You're getting ready to be fired. Predatory towing is an ugly business. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Let's be honest nobody likes tow companies they are predatory and most of the time extremely rude and have legal authority to steal your property and ransom it back to you like some drug cartel, nothing like waking up in the morning heading out for work and seeing a empty spot where your vehicle used to be. That being said they are required by NC state law to contact you about your vehicle being towed and I had to figure out who towed my vehicle and were on my own. Minus one star. The staff in the office where cold and condescending and the whole thing looked like a backyard operation. Minus one star. To their credit they didn't damage my vehicle and although stealing the whole thing never stole any personal effects in said vehicle. Plus half a star. Also as being cold and condescending they where not outwardly rude while I was paying the extortion fee. Plus half a star. They had several good boys or girls wandering around for pats while you wait. Plus two stars. That is all.

Let's be honest nobody wants their car towed but it happens. With that being said it wasn't the worse experience. The ladies there were super nice, & polite, Mr. Lee was really helpful. Even the tow driver helped with advice on where not to park in the lot I was at. Overall a 10/10 experience. PS. the dog was really great as well

A rare experience but a vehicle that my in-laws thought their son had sold actually got impounded here. As it turns out he did not sell the car and due to other extreme circumstances we were notified by the DMV one week before they would sell the car. However, Ace Towing staff were extremely helpful & understanding. They went ABOVE & BEYOND for me and my wife in our situation with the office manager jean/gene stayed almost two hours after they closed to help us with mechanical problems and even gave us extremely helpful advice. Other staff members like Lee and Nelson also were extremely helpful in our situation. I truly commend all of them and like I said this was a very rare business experience where staff took the time of day just to be great human beings. I’m grateful for that and that’s why I wanted this positive review - they deserve it!

Ace Towing uses predatory practices to extort money from the poor residents of Wake county. They prowl through parking lots to spot a vehicle with out of date tags so they can tow it back to their facility and extort $200 from you in order for them to return your vehicle. How they operate their business should be illegal. They have a rotten company, and their office reeks of wet dogs and stale Marlboros.
