What clients say about Fox Run Resort in Lake Lure (NC)

The facilty is beautiful. The grounds are surrounded by a high class golf course. The weather was not good and we had a hard time getting to the resort and lost a day, but when we arrived they had set us up to pick up our check-in packet and that was done very professionally. When we reached our condo, it was well appointed with all the things to make our stay comfortable. It was very quiet in February. The rooms are comfortable and we had a fireplace that was quite romantic. We hiked around the grounds, and did some local hikes near Lake Lure and Chimney Rock State Park. Using the jetted tub was wonderful and relaxing. Thanks for a great stay.

The leasing office is located in a different place, requiring a long trip to pick up and return the keys. The apartments are old and poorly cleaned. The furniture is old and dilapidated. The apartments often smell strongly of cigarette smoke. They provide a map with directions, but the information on it is completely incorrect. We had to search for the correct building for almost an hour.

The condo was spatial and the views were amazing. Victory Kitchen, a local restaurant nearby, was an amazing place to have breakfast the day we arrived, and Joy, the waitress who waited on us, was awesome. The staff was unavailable, unfriendly and unwilling to help. Condo had spiders, a hole in one of the doors to the master bedroom, cobwebs, porches that were all moldy and one porch had rotten wood that was weak and could have caused a serious accident on one of the balconies no. Condo had a smell and appeared like it had not been occupied in awhile. There were old rusty appliances in the condo that looked like they hadn’t been used in years. Same with the porch furniture (rusted, worn and old). The TV in the master bedroom was a Sanyo and the remote was a Phillips—-the TV couldn’t be watched or controlled with the mismatched remote. The power and internet “mysteriously” went out our third and final day there with no real explanation. It was pitch black outside afterwards and it was out for hours. We had flashlights and gathered in one room to wait out the power outage. It was around 2 or 3 am. It was ONLY the power to our condo that lost power. The power came back on around 8:45 am. The cleaning people came around 6:30 am and threw a bag of supplies against the front door, startling us and making it sound like someone was trying to break into the place. One of the gate entrance keepers asked me AFTER I showed ID what was my name AGAIN, how long was I staying and what was my cottage number. He wrote it down, as if my ID and room key weren’t proof enough. I found that totally inappropriate. The power went out after that. He and it was very weird. Staff was weird in general, like when Laney and Brian at the “Welcome Center” told us they didn’t recommend we buy day passes for the jacuzzi and spa, and Capri telling us there were no more slots for massages the day we went to the spa, but then added us to a same day waiting list afterwards, as if she would fit us in. The staff discouraged my family who didn’t look like them from using any of their limited facilities.

Check in is 2.25 miles from the resort. Once at the resort, had do a secondary check in to get activity card & directions to the unit. No check out Dropbox at the resort, had to go back to the original check in location. Room was good, however a little dated. Dining room table was very dirty. Dishwasher needs replacing, many broken tines & soap dispenser didn't work. Washer didn't work, however, Maintenance fixed it fairly quickly. Stainless steel pots & pans, but no Brillo/SOS pads. Scrubbing pans don't work. If you need extra toilet paper there is a charge. Towel exchange extra fee. No breakfast on property except on Saturday & Sunday. One of the restaurants, The Gardens, closed on 11/01. The other restaurant, Legends on the lake, has a limited menu on Monday and Tuesday & only open after 3pm M-F.

What a great vacation. This is the perfect place to stay. We will be back.

Don’t be fooled by 4 star reviews! Overall, the property seemed decent, we did not partake in many of the amenities. We were spending most of our time in Asheville, which is a solid 1 hr drive…in case you are curious. We were supposed to stay on property from Friday-Friday. It is a 2 story townhome. The master bedroom was essentially in the basement of the unit. The place smelled very musty, it was dark and we had a spot of sticky gum in the unit that was there when we got there. It was also definitely very old and outdated, I don’t think the main tv was even a flat screen. We also had some dirty dishes in the unit that had been put away, that's very poor quality control. Our first night, we saw a live palmetto bug in the bathroom, if you don’t know, they are large cockroaches that can fly. Not a relaxing night sleep. I called the office to see if there was anything we could do, and they said they could have the bug guy come the next day. And not to worry, they are not the gross roaches, sorry, they are all gross! We were off property the next day, no sign of the bug guy, and then the next night, another roach, smaller, but was also in the master bathroom. I was not happy, so I called yet again to be told, “There is nothing we can do, all our units have roaches, it’s the change of weather.” Sorry, I live in Florida where palmetto bugs are plentiful and I pay for pest control and I don’t have roaches. Poor excuse! We did end up moving upstairs because it seemed like they were showing up downstairs. The pest control guy did eventually show up on Tuesday. But at that point we had already decided to leave early and finish our vacation elsewhere. I think it could be a very nice place, but they need to put some serious upgrades into it and pay for better pest control!

Fox Run Resort is a very pleasant, quiet and convenient place for vacationing in the Asheville area. Positioned on Lake Lure, it has a wonderful view of it and the surrounding mountains. If you're golfer, theres two courses lined by townhomes, rental condos, and Bald Mt. We came off-season when amenities like restaurants and the outdoor pool were closed, but the wellness center with its fitness room, sauna, hot tub, and inside pool, plus outdoor putt-putt and tennis courts were still available. We enjoy hiking and and came here for that reason. We found Fox Run to be a great home base for our outings. Chimney Rock SP and the town by the same name is just a half hour up the road. The town is rebuilding from Hurricane Helena over a year ago, but has a couple of great restaurants, an ice cream shop, candy gift shops open for business. Catawba Falls is just 40 minutes west near Old Fort. And then the Biltmore & Asheville just another 20 minutes further down interstate 40. Young's Mt Trail and Weed Patch Mt. Tr were just a few minutes outside the entrance of the resort. We liked our detached unit that came with a full kitchen, large rooms and front door parking. Staff were all friendly and helpful. We really had a lovely stay.

Great location, great golfing, nice small town and nice place for the family of all ages. Great walking abilities, trails, roads. Friendly staff. Rxcepy check in who we asked three months in advance for no stairs as I am disabled veteran, was told I'm sorry it's too late to change rooms as they were booked for holiday and nothing could be done. Poor excuse sins I was told otherwise, when me made reservations. I like the place, but they make it hard to continue to be a loyal guest, as we love the ppl in area and waterfalls.

Very spacious and very clean. Everything we needed was there upon arrival. We would recommend staying here. Very quiet and relaxing

Don’t waste your money or time!!!! NOT impressed! Upon arrival, we were met with an overwhelming smell of mold and mildew, in which we complained the next morning and asked for a dehumidifier but they just said ‘all the units are like that’s. The 2nd morning I walked into the bathroom, and saw a large roach alive but on its back. We complained to the freaking ‘double wide trailer front office’ and they just said ‘was it alive or dead?’ If it was alive, let us know and we’ll have them come out and spray.??♀️ The sealed trash bins are too close to the units, right out front of each property. They need to be 50 feet away so that all the roaches crawling around don’t make it into the units. The damp carpets needs to be ripped up from these old 80’s/90’s styles chalets and replaced with modern vinyl plank flooring that doesn’t absorb humidity! This is 2025 for cryin outloud! These units need a major refresh!! And the trash drop off further distanced away to rid the bug infestation!! VERY poorly managed property units/new management desperately needed at Rumbling bald! New management needed!!! Existing management is far too incompetent to run the place! We booked this place for 7 days and tried to give it a second chance, but here we are on day 5 and we’ve seen a total of 4-5 roaches, black mold on the wall.. the downstairs bedroom ‘which feels more like a dungeon basement REEKS of mildew. We will NEVER come back here! Extremely disappointed! Doesn’t even deserve one star!!!?

The unit was wonderful and Rumbling Bald is always a terrific experience. Admin in terms of check-in was clunky.....we arrived after hours and could pick up our welcome packet with keys in a lockbox. We also left credit card information over the phone.| That was great but we had to drive off the property and back to their offices to sign paperwork...not sure why this could not have been done electronically. Also, be prepared to purchase through Rumbling Bald daily amenity passes.... they aren't included in rental fee. Also they aren't expensive and so worth it. It would have been helpful for this information to be included in the registration information.

Got there to the room and was met by a bear ,and didn't have the key in the package so had to jump back in the car to go back to the office to get the keys after driving around the place looking for our unit because the lay out is so confusing. Then next day woke up to the fridge not working. I had to clean the bottom of it because of soured water in it when we got there and spent the whole day waiting for it to be fixed. The maintenance guy was trying to fix it along with several other units that had problems. So the only highlight of our stay was the bears.Nothing to do there but golf due to the flood and hurricane. So we won't be recommending it to our family and friends

Simply amazing location. Immersed in nature. Unit 201 is like a treehouse. Though a little “worn” and in need of some updates, it is truly an awesome place to stay.
Jun 14, 2025 -
I'll start with the good parts of our stay: the after hours process was smooth & hassle free; the unit was spacious and clean, the resort is large and very scenic. The bad parts: when driving to the resort itself at night, it's pitch black. There is minimal if any lighting and the road signs are extremely hard to read at night. There should be ample road lighting in and around the resort, especially by the road signs. And everything is called, " Fox this or Fox that". It is super confusing and lacks any creativity. When we entered the unit, it smelled super moldy and the sliding door in the unit didn't work so we felt very unsafe in the unit. The TV sets are a bit outdated so make sure you bring DVDS or VHS tapes for your stay. Even though you pay your maintenence fees, etc, you're still expected to gather your linens and trash for the cleaning people. Check in is 4pm?? And check out is 10am??? Yikes, so even though you pay for a full day, you don't get a full day on your stay due to these extremely early and late check in times.

My family of 5 stayed in a villa over St. Patrick’s day weekend! Everyone was so friendly and helpful!!! We stayed 3 nights and it was so affordable and clean and comfortable. We had a beautiful view of the mountains and the lake from the balcony, which our villa had two balconies! Everything you may need for your stay is there, they left nothing out! We will definitely be back!! Hopefully Chimney Rock will be back open soon!!

I was impressed that the property WAS OPEN! It was hammered by Hurricane Halene, NC Lake Lure and Chimney Rock were destroyed 5 WEEKS BEFORE I arrived. The area was very hard hit, crews were working everywhere trying to restore power, water, roads and other infrastructure! And I was surprised by the fact that the property was OPEN! We were planning our Thanksgiving with our family from NC and KY, and a trip to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. With that being said, the place was musty, and a bit dated. We were able to get everything we needed and wanted, excellent staff, security, and active restaurants on property. The community was rallying around the businesses devastated by the disaster and we were able to enjoy the week almost as if nothing had happened. I look forward to going back in 5 years to see the outcome of their efforts. I hope it will rebound and be even better!

This is a great resort for people that want to hike, fish or go on adventures AND for folks that just want to relax and do nothing in a beautiful setting. There are restaurants and a coffee shop on the grounds, golf and wandering near two lakes and some beautiful scenery to look out at from your balcony. Really enjoyed the place and plan to go back.

From the moment we got there, it was terrible. Unhelpful check in, unit smelled horrible like mold and musty. carpets were stained. Leftover trash from previous renters under beds. Be sure to take your own pans because the cooking kitchen supplies were insufficient. BUGS BUGS BUGS! My husband sat in the front room on the chair and a huge bug ran across him. Then that night another huge bug ran across the counter and we caught another in the bedroom. The decks were unusable as they were slimy with mold and huge spider webs everywhere. I know it was up against the woods, but “come on”! The gutters were overflowing. I could never go back

We were supposed to have gone to the beach this year but my mother (who lives with us and is wheelchair bound) had a heart attack and was still recovering when our vacation time came. We decided to try to go to the Asheville area instead, which was only half as far to travel. On very short notice, the people at Fox Run were very kind and accommodating in getting us a unit with no stairs at the entry way and a bedroom on the main floor so the wheelchair was no problem. The unit was very nice and clean, and the resort is absolutely beautiful and quiet. There are SO many things to do in that area, so it was fun, relaxing, and restorative. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would recommend it to everyone. We hope to visit there again sometime!

The good, very clean, although musty smell. Dated , decent furniture and well stocked kitchen. Friendly staff. Great towels and linens. The bad, have to take a half hour ride through corkscrew roads to get to any civilization . The pool on site was a nightmare and had to be closed on Monday. We had the unit until Saturday, but checked out Wednesday. Our front walk were some uneven fake brick that had been tossed down, without securing or leveling. Upon leaving, I took a spill on it , getting a huge gash and bruises. Luckily, we had some gauze pads and ointment and stopped the bleeding. Do not stay in 323 fox run. We’ve changed the dressing and will most likely get a shot and stitches at our local quick care. I’m a diabetic and take this seriously. Since tomorrow is 7/4 , 7/5, I have two calls, one to my doctor and one to my attorney.

Hello! Just got back to Lexington from Fox Run Resorts Unit #18. Shout out to Katie, Monica, Mary, the lady with the beautiful cross and their manager in the room on the left. As a traveller who has been to China, Brazil, Africa and several islands with Aruba being my favorite place in the world, I want to say God lives in Aruba, but he surely vacations in Lake Lure, Fox Run Resorts! When people write reviews I wish they understood that they can cause people to lose their livelihoods. It's one thing to point out things that can be corrected and another to be spoiled and uppity and verbally trash a property. The pen is a sword that can hurt folks unnecessarily. From Dec.2023 until April 2024 certain folks hateful, negative and unkind words about this place almost caused me to cancel and lose my points and ?.||I decided that since Aruba may never be again thanks to Covid changes, I'll go two hours away and come back if the complaints of filth, bugs, bears and rusted machines was true. My unit 18 right by unit 16 ( see that review) had what appeared to be all new furniture, carpet, fridge w/ice maker, washer and dryer, kitchen appliances, utensils, balconies. The stone wall and fireplace are an lovely added touch! As far as the stale smell, once you open the doors and lay down some dryer sheets...... it's gone. Obviously folks have never been camping or in cabins the woods. I'll tell you this, the TV's played lovely hip Christian music on the menu channel 11 and as I looked out from my lower level bedroom at the trees, mountains clouds and ? I literally broke down and cried a cleansing cry, this place reaffirmed that God is REAL and peace is attainable! If the office people offered me 1G to find any bug in my unit, I would have been out of luck. I purchased and brought so may things to fight off the things the negative reviewers wrote about, sorry but I guess misery is looking for company. A friend once taught me to manage my expectations......please people, do the same. You are messing with folks vacations and lives.||Oh and a former neighbor of mine came up and she felt the same way.

Highly disappointed with Fox Run unit 16 vacation rental. We decided to leave after staying 3 nights (we had it reserved for 7 nights through RCI exchange). We should have been leery when the check-in area was at a mobile trailer.||We were greeted with a strong whiff of a stale musty odor as soon as we opened the door to the unit. The unit is extremely dated, circa early 1980’s architecture, decor, and style. It certainly has not been updated in over 30+ years. It is a split level townhouse with the main bedroom, bath, and laundry room in the bottom level. The kitchen and dining room are on the top level and the second bedroom and bath are on the entrance level where the old parquet floor is peeling up. The walls and ceilings are marked and stained everywhere and cob webs in the corners throughout the unit. Bathroom and kitchen fixtures are all outdated and laminate flooring had seen better days. We only used the refrigerator and decided not to cook because the utensils, dishes, and cookware were limited and appeared dirty. We wore our shoes in the unit at all times because I could tell there was a layer of grim on the floors and the carpeted areas needed shampooing. Then only thing that was recently updated were the wood decks outside of the living area and main bedroom (although, the outdoor furniture was rusted and we didn’t trust sitting on them). I would not recommend staying here until this unit is gutted! I do not know if all the units are this horrible or not, I can only speak for Fox Run unit 16.||As far as the area goes, the unit is located on an average golf course, otherwise there is not much around and you are in the middle of nowhere. Also, if you want to use any of the amenities at the “resort”, you have to pay an additional fee for use of the pool, tennis courts, and fitness center, which we did not. The unit is approximately 30 minutes from anything else including a grocery store. So be prepared to drive for any type of activity.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The condo was lovely. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The bathroom with shower and jacuzzi tub was awesome, and the sinks and counter tops are spacious and perfect. The better would be to install new carpeting throughout. Two thumbs up!

Love the location. The townhouse are really spacious and beds comfy, but could certainly use updating. That wouldn’t stop us from going though. Beautiful views from our unit and Lake Lure area is charming and close to many other great towns to check out.

I booked 2 condo units for a week for a family reunion through Hoppaway Holiday. Foxrun is tied in with a timeshare outfit called Rumbling Bald. The websites didn't give clear regulations about RV's. "recreation vehicles and the like on the limited common property, except in areas designated for same". (rule 5). "No vehicle which cannot operate on its own power shall remain on the Subdivision premises for more than 24 hours" (rule 7). My RV operates under it's own power!||Hoppaway Holiday did have any statements about RV on their website for Foxrun. I have a 24 foot class C RV about 4 feet longer than a pickup truck. The parking lot for my condo had plenty of space and never had more than 5 vehicles in a lot with more than 20 spaces.||I never knew about restrictions for RV's until I checked in on arrival date.|The security guard for Rumbling Bald told me I could not drive into the resort. After about 10 minutes of discussion he finally let me in to unload clothing, food for a week stay. My granddaughter could not arrival that evening until her husband got off work. I had no way of moving my RV to a storage yard 2 miles away.||At 8 AM Saturday morning we had a loud banging on the front door from the securing manager telling me to move my RV. My granddaughter wasn't up yet and had 2 small children to take care of. Her husband followed me to the boat storage yard 2 miles away at 11 AM. I had to pay a storage fee for 7 days in the storage yard.||Security was not understanding or cared about my stay at Foxrun. I drove over 700 miles to be with my children and grandchildren in North Carolina and I was treated like a criminal.||

We booked this through our timeshare trade company. It was much nicer than we actually expected. The whole property is beautiful, and impeccably kept. We especially liked being greeted by a black bear. Such a wonderful surprise. LOL He, or she, was just wandering around, looking for snacks.||They tell you about the local wildlife, so you are prepared for any interactions. ||Anyway, the townhouse was beautiful, and comfortable. We ate at the one restaurant, on the first night, and the food and service was great.||Check in and out was easy. ||The golf course, even though we don't play, was beautiful. The amenities, also, are good.||We would definitely go back there, no doubt.||

We stayed here for our four day vacation, the room was great. The location is good except we were at the very top, so it was a bit of a drive to get to the amenities. My only complaint is we were out of power for over 24 hours during our stay. I know no one controls the weather, so that’s not to be held against them. Otherwise everything was great.
Aug 21, 2023 -
I had a great stay. My experience was very good and did not align with some of the negative reviews I have seen. Everything was clean when we arrived. There is good appliances and we were provided with dish soap and laundry detergent. We did see one roach when we first showed up, but never saw any again. We didn’t see any bears, but it may not have been the season for them. The resort does a great job of giving you information at check in about the bears and how to avoid them and deal with them safely. I would say they could update the wall paper and carpet, but everything else was nice and up to date. There was a smart TV and cable. I was very comfortable. The downstairs bedroom gets cold at night, but there is a wall mounted space heater, so that should not be a problem. We were also provided with extra blankets and sheets. I do not recommend the restaurant at the club house though. Just go check out the local restaurants around Lake Lure.
