North Charlotte tax payer dollars pay for this place but can't dump yard waste anymore. Nothing is convenient to this area have to drive halfway across Charlotte.

My apartment, like many, does not offer recycling. I can't throw plastic, glass and such into my trash, only to end up in the land fill. I just can't. So I was very happy to make my first visit to the recycling center today. The staff was very helpful and I felt good about taking the time and effort to bring my recycling where it belongs. Avoid going in with a utility truck, unless you have to, as they are not free. You will pay a small fee because of the volume you're potentially unloading, but otherwise, it's free. You pay for it in your taxes. 😉

Quick process. Staff very kind and helpful. We took cardboard, shredded paper, old printer and TV.

I took 4 bags of leaves for my neighbor to this facility which they happily accepted. My son ask me to take his as well so I took 3 more bags as well 30 minutes later and was denied entrance. Not sure what the requirements are for leaves but I can leave as many bags of leaves in paper recycle bags on the side of the street and they will pick them up, but I can't drop just leaves off. Doesn't make much sense.

Please fix the Cardboard and Styrofoam section!! Its horrible now. It was SO much better before you moved it. At least consider separating the two.

I've never been excited by a garbage facility before. It was so quick. Show up, show proof of address, then pull over to the side and dump everything on the floor, then just leave. So easy. Awesome after our move. Didn't cost a cent.

Love that we have access to this, when a lot of the apartments in the area don't have recycling

Staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. Grateful to have such a robust recycling center nearby!

Easybfaculity get in/out of. Great value for Meck residents for all types of items to get rid of.

Great to have a facility like this around. We have lived in four other staes, and none of them had facilities like this. The workers there are always keeping it well maintained and have places for almost any and everything you can throw away from cardboard, household items, glass, paint cans, kitchen grease, etc. And the people working there are always helpful and friendly.

Usually hit this during off peak hours so never really hit any traffic. Past visit had two workers come over and assist with unloading my trailer which was very appreciated in this summer heat!

Waiting in line for 15 minutes and then paying $15 to dispose of a pickup truck’s worth of junk is poor service for our community. Furthermore, closing the facility at 4 p.m. is unreasonable and fails to meet the needs of customers. It feels like the DMV is running the dump!

The nonsensical regulations around dumping here is part of the reason meck nc has so much litter & roadside dumping. Even when you follow sorting instructions to a tee here, they come up and harass you from their golf carts. Closed for days on either end of any holiday. Nails and screws all over the lot ready to pop your tires too! Clearly the facility is totally overwhelmed. North Mecklenburg must provide better alternatives for proper disposal, and we’d have a cleaner county.

THEY’RE NOT OPEN!!! NOT ONLY DOES GOOGLE SAY THEY’RE OPEN, SO DOES THE SIGN ON THE FENCE AND SO DOES THE AUTOMATED PHONE LINE. I PULLED UP TO DROP OFF AND WAS SHOOED AWAY LIKE A STRAY DOG. NOWHERE TO DUMP. THEY WONT PICK IT UP BUT THEN FINE US FOR DISPOSING OF IT “improperly”. A JOKE!!!

$18 for up to 400 lbs They tried to charge me 18 buks for 3 small trash bags! It is too much! I understand if they charge for a commercial trash, but charging private citizens when we are already paying city and county taxes is scam!

I would give it 0 stars, been taking my loads there over 10 years, have never been charged and today, they wanted to charge me $15 to dump a twin size mattress, couch, and bedstand. As a taxpayer in Mecklenburg county this is so wrong. the lady there said it has always been like that. So not true, and they almost didn’t let me dump my cardboard. Had to argue with them about it 🙄 just to leave the cardboard.

I've been going to the North Mecklenburg Recycling Center for the past 25 years and rarely have a positive experience. I finally took one of my neighbors’ advice and have started going to the Compost Central Recycling Center on Valleydale Rd. So far, the Valleydale Center is far more superior than the North Mecklenburg Center. If you do plan to go to the North Mecklenburg Center, I would strongly advise you to become familiar with their rate sheet. I am very familiar with the rate sheet and load my vehicle so that I will not be charged a dump fee. On numerous occasions they have tried to charge me a fee and when I challenged them to explain to me exactly what I am being charged for they come up with some reason unrelated to the rate sheet. I always keep a copy of the rate sheet in my vehicle and at this point produce it to review all the items that I am attempting to leave at the center. They usually see the error in their ways or look at you confused because they really don't understand or know what their rate sheet says and allow me to enter the center without a charge. I even had one of them tell me “This time I'll let you go but next time you're going to have to pay” which makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. Do yourself a favor and avoid these rude incompetent county employees and visit the Valleydale Center.

I paid $10 for recycling 3 tv and soundbar boxes! I have to separate everything myself. The lady at the office was looking at me until I finished. The office crew was so rude. Never going back there again.

If you place your leafs, tree branches, and any unwanted household items on the curb of your home, it would be picked up FREE of charge by the city employees. If you are a law abiding citizen and volunteerly haul it to the Recycle place, the city would CHARGE you a fee. Am I missing something!! 🤣

Never understood why they charge people who live in that same county when we already pay city and county taxes for garbage. Instead of allowing us to unload ourselves, now we just place it on the curb in front of our homes and make the employees load it in their truck. More work for the route driver!?

I wanted to share a very positive experience I had with Jeff Smithberger, the Director of Solid Waste Management. I was at the recycling center dumping some items and lost my phone on a Saturday. I sent an email to the department, expecting to hear from someone Monday morning. Jeff replied to my email within a couple of hours and personally offered to meet me at the recycling center on Sunday morning to retrieve my phone. It took some time to find it but I was able to locate it. He's a very nice man and took his personal time to help me. Much appreciated!

I have been to this location multiple times to throw away broken toys and trash and cardboard overflow, many times that I have gone I was not charged anything to get rid of my trash. The last few times I have gone I have been charged, the first time I was charged $15 which is fine if that’s the cost to dispose of trash when you’re a resident. Today when I went the lady in the booth charged me $28.50 because the address on my license is different than my Huntersville address- she claimed she would have to charge me as if I were a business due to the address on my license, I offered to show her my lease and she seemed as though she would charge me the $15 or at the very least discuss the charge with me. Instead she charged my card without telling me the amount and when I explained to her that I had only been charged $15 before with the same license. she scoffed and me and turned the mic off. I have no issue being charged but the fact she charged my card without discussing the amount is extremely unprofessional. I happy to say that I will not be using this center for any other needs, the staff is rude and impatient I would not recommend at all

Not to hard to get my 16 foot trailer in and out of. My only complaint is the guy in the golf cart. He is a joke. Gives directions that makes no sense and gets mad when you can't hear him... He should get off his cart and walk over and speak. Not yell with a mask on from 50 yards away.

I absolutely love this facility. Although it is not as large as the Recycling Center on Pence Rd., The North Mecklenburg Recycling Center is extremely organized and clean. The entrance only has 1 sign that posts the hours of operation. When you cross through the gate, there are traffic cones that lead you to the front office to be weighed or you have the choice for express recycling to the right where it's self serve. One day, I had to dump an oversized toaster oven and went to the wrong area, the man in the bulldozer came up to me, pointed to put the item inside, and he hauled it for me. Today, I was stuck behind a pick up truck pulling a trailer and he was parked at the exit, blocking the right lane. An employee (The young man with a "Gucci" headband, on the golf cart) motioned for me to go around the motorist. I felt that was a kind and professional gesture, being considerate of my time when he could've cared less. I am appreciative of the way that even though this is a major city, the workers bring it back to basics with excellent public, customer service. You guys/gals are amazing! I will be back!

Place sneaks up on you so be on the look out for the white sign by the road. Set up nicely and everything is easy to access. New scales in the middle of the lot so it's easy to maneuver to them. Trucks with trailers are no problem here. It's very open. Just pay attention for the heavy equipment. Everything is labeled and overall a good spot if you have recycling. They offer a dumpster in the back for kitchen trash. They also offer mulch there.

This facility is a great resource for the community. Use it for what it is and don't use it for what it is not. Let's start with what it is not. It is not a completely free place to get rid of everything that you no longer want. Some things have a fee. Get over it if you are a cheap *$$. Yes you can get rid of some things cheaper elsewhere. So what? If you are that cheap take it elsewhere or put smaller amounts at your curb over the next six weeks..... What it is: a great place to recycle any amount of cardboard for free. A great place to take smaller amounts of household waste for free. A place to take smaller amounts of excess yard waste for free. A great place to take a truckload of yard waste for $8.00. So worth it to spend twenty minutes loading and unloading a truck with leaves and branches vs trying to cram leaves into a bag (10 free with curbside service) and dealing with excess bags for the next four weeks. As far as the employees here, I have only had pleasant experiences. Helpful, courteous, and really much better that most government services anywhere else. Lastly, to the goofballs who keep complaining that they pay taxes and this service should be free. You sir, must live in a strange world.... recycling centers like this do not exist in other states with much much much higher taxes. Please stop 😭😭😭😭😭😭 you are only embarrassing yourself.

Have used this center many times to recycle lithium batteries, paint, cardboard, old grills...haven't ever had to pay anything. Employees are helpful in making sure your items go in the right place. Bring your license to prove you're a Meck Co resident. All in all a great experience.
