Top Notch Mechanics in Edenton, NC truly lives up to the name. This was hands down the easiest and most effortless experience I’ve ever had with a mechanic. From start to finish, everything was straightforward and stress-free.

This place gouged us when we were in a predicament. My daughter totaled her car, but she was okay although shaken up. We live in Virginia, so it took me a while to get down there. The car ended up being towed to this Salvage Yard. It was a July 3rd, so I told them I will come back first thing when they re-open after the holidays. I was thinking, I will go down there, they will pay me a fair salvage price, and I sign the title over to them. On the internet, the lowest salvage value I found for my car was $800. When I returned, he told me the fees for him having to store the car were more then salvage value of the car and that I owed him money, but he would write it off! So basically, he got my car for free, and there was little I could do about it.
Be careful coming here! I heard good things from friends and ended up disappointed and confused! They told me my vehicle needed a new transmission after riding it down the street with me! This is after telling me the same thing, a year beforehand for an entirely different vehicle and I trusted them! After visiting multiple mechanics and shops trying to figure why my vehicle was losing acceleration it turns out all I needed was a 02/oxygen sensor! A sensor! And they nearly talked me into paying for a new transmission for 3200$! So, now I can only wonder if my other vehicle, last year, actually even needed the transmission I payed them for! They seem to be good mechanics otherwise.. but I would be cautious if you go here.
I have always taken my Hyundai to the dealer in EC but due to time and already spending 2 rounds of diagnostics to get my AC looked with no fix, I wanted to give Top Notch a go. They always look busy so I thought if I could get it back in 2- 3 days it would be a win. Well I dropped it off later morning and had it back same day. Communication was great. They topped all fluids, oil change, fixed a sensor in one my tires and fixed my AC which was some ports that was leaking all my freon out. She's running great. They called me and was in constant communication and the price was reasonable. Service was great. I will be back.
I contacted this shop to replace the front structs on my vehicle. I had to pay $500 for them to order the parts and was told to drop off my car and will need it for the whole day. When I dropped my vehicle off I asked for the invoice for the structs that was ordered since I had to pay $500 and wanted proof of purchase. When I dropped off my vehicle August 28, 2024, they mentioned they would get to it the next day August 29, 2024. So I get a call on August 30 at 0803 informing me that one of the structs was bad and have to order a new one. He started it would not be in until September 9th or 10th. Which I was not expecting so I mentioned to him that this is a holiday weekend and can they just put the old structs back on my vehicle until the new one came in. He stated no that is a safety issue and would not be able to do. I stated so you telling me either way you are not releasing my vehicle until the new part comes which is almost 2 weeks, so I have to go two weeks without a car, and no they did not have a courtesy vehicle for me to use NOR was even going to offer me a discount for the inconvenience. I had to pay an additional $500 for a rental car which was a challenge to even find one because reminder you its a holiday weekend. Fast forward to the day I pick up my vehicle which is September 10th around lunch time and when I ask for the new invoice of the struct that was ordered to replace the bad one the one man I've been dealing with this whole ordeal let's call him Mr. Kite makes a comment oh you don't trust me. In my head I'm thinking hell naw I don't know you, but instead I said is there a problem. His answer was they can't give out invoices on parts they order. In my head I'm like really because I got the first invoice with not problem and last time I checked you only ordered a part that I PAID for. So he rips off parts of a piece of paper and had it to me, and it was then I knew he was covering up something. People be careful and never leave your car if possible, especially with a person who you never met and is going to say "what you don't trust me" and in my head I'm saying there are people who have lost their lives and are missing in this world for TRUSTING a stranger.
If you are a professional truck driver avoid this place at all costs. I arrived about 1220 and was told it was a 40 minute wait. I waited until 1300, I assumed the mechanics were on lunch.
The entire time I waited, not one customer came. I asked the guy at the front desk if the workers were ready for me around 1310. That guy caught an attitude and responded just a sec as he was sipping his coffee. I patiently continued to wait until 1330 hours. I ended up going elsewhere. I had only needed the tractor’s blue air hose switched out. That process only takes about 15 minutes. I dont know what i did to be treated as such. However, I am colored and this may have played a part in this small southern bible belt town.
I was respectful, patient and kind. I saw signs posted that they were christian people. Me being respectful, politely went elsewhere due to the poor customer service. When I arrived at another truck repair location, i was in and out in less than 30minutes.
Been using Top Notch for years. They do everything there major & minor also have a salvage yard there call if your looking for a used part to see if they have it.
Best shop I’ve ever found. No funny business here just good honest people who actually care about their customers. I’ll never go to any other repair shops cause I’ve found the good one I’ve been looking for

Plus they were also very informative on questions that I had about parts that they did not have, that I need. And they looked it up for me and wrote down the information for me that I need. Very nice people.
I do not recommend! I needed a rearend differential with a 327 ratio! Mike insisted he had one of that ratio! Spent $400 and it was a 276 ratio! I called for a refund due to them putting on the receipt that is was a 327 ! And I couldn’t use it at all! No response! I was scammed out of my money! And he knew it wasn’t the correct part! That’s why he hve a no refund policy!
They recently sent me a clean low mileage transmission for my 97 Camry palletized from out of state. Great customer service, fast shipping, packaged great, great price and they know what they are talking about on the phone. They even texted me pics before purchase that showed me everything I needed to confirm. After driving almost 1k miles she is running and shifting better than ever! I had 2 separate units delivered then returned from LKQ that looked disgusting for double the price that were destroyed and needed rebuilds due to negligence during removal. Thank you guys for making this a much easier experience!
TOPNOTCH gets it done fast and does it right the first time! Mike is always helpful and the quotes are always accurate! No surprises! Nothing they can't fix! Even hybrid vehicles!
Most good reviews are coming from the salvage yard...which is great to find used parts and the service is great but......do not get your car serviced, repaired or worked on there....for safety reasons. When paying upwards of 5k cash or maintance and repairs you'd expect some decent service. They throw first time wrench fetching rookies on your vehicle who do not tighten bolts, replace skid plates, flush brakes, tighten hoses, properlly install brakes or basically anything they touch they don't replace or is a worse hazard than it originally was. THey throw a 12/hr rookie on intricate things and cgarge you $80 or so an hour but then double or triple the actual time it takes. Brakes taking 9hrs?Absolute nightmare service and dangerous. Any mechanic w morals that has worked there eventually quits once they find out the shady things they do. I personally knew several of them and that's why I used them but once they all left it was bottom of the barrel for skills. STAY FAR AWAY. If the owner is reading this, make some changes. I dropped $8k cash on x2 vehicles maintaince and minor repairs and everything yall touched had to be either redone, fixed, adjusted or repaired. Dirty sloppy work, so much I didn't even want yall to touch my vehicles again....even with your "30 day guarantee".

I have been coming here for years. They worked on my service van and now work on my bucket truck. The staff is straight forward and honest. Joey, Madison, Mike and Mike are good people. The mechanics and salvage crew are polite and friendly too.

This place is a rip off they over charge for everything specially the towing all you hard working people out there save your money and go see Mr P's Winfall a hell of lot cheaper parts and definitely the labor.
They have Salvage yard also.
Ladies this place is worth the drive. The owner is a good and active Christian man. I take my vehicle here and I am sure I am getting the best price for repairs. It’s not all jacked up because I am a woman. You know what I mean. Feel the quote you got doesn’t sound right go here. It might be a drive but what’s your money worth to you?
They towed my totaled car. They were fast. They weren't very talkative. They didn't really tell us what we needed to do therefore I forgot to get the tags and stuff off the car. The minute I got out the hospital we had to go there to get everything out the car in the rain because by the next morning it's be gone and they don't care.
