Oak Island was a very pleasant surprise! Hopefuthe dredging will be done soon so the can open up the beach back up on that side and the water returns to its beautiful color again. The town itself is great l, id like to spend more time there and South Port!
Free to walk out on the pier. The woman behind the counter was so informative, kind, knowledgeable. She even showed us photos of a sunset that she took. We will return. Great experience. Very windy that day
Honestly I've only been to the beach a handful of times. From my perspective, its a really enjoyable experience. The pier has a lot space for fisherman along with a 30 rod spot for king fishing. Has volleyball nets under the pier to play, just bring a ball
Beautiful beach. There is generally a cost to park here but since we arrived after 6pm it wasn't in effect. We ate at a restaurant on the beach and then watched the sun go down, the beach and pier was open untill 11pm. Pier was free to walk on but I think there was a fee if you were planning on fishing from it. It made for Beautiful sunset pictures and wasn't as crowded as I expected it to be. We had a fantastic time walking along the beach and pier at and after sunset watching the waves and the little crabs running out of our way. It was a fantastic experience and I will 100% be visiting there again on our next trip.

We had a beautiful time here with the family so much shore to explore! Parking was not to hard to get...seems busy looking at it but lots of availability to enjoy for the day! Water was very warm!
Very nice pier! Easy to access, beautiful views, places to sit and enjoy the ocean views and sounds! Located near some great restaurant, and beach access!
If you fish this is a great pier. Plenty of benches and 2 sinks fir cleaning your catch. I went for the view. You can also buy an alcoholic beverage at the bar to take on the pier. You can't take your own. The view is beautiful!
Great pier, well built and maintained. The price to fish is reasonable, and they offer Military discount. They sell frozen bait like most piers, but I think they need a bigger tackle selection.
Sat at the bar for lunch and was served by Jo a marvelous friendly happy server who must absolutely love what she does. I ordered the steamed peel and eat shrimp perfectly done and enjoyed conversations with locals and staff. Highly recommend this restaurant!!!
We watched the sunset from the pier it was very nice. But if your like me and hate hieghts be warned that this pier isn't full wood. The part you walk down is like a grate all the way down so it might make you feel a little sketchy ?. But overall I enjoyed sitting on one of the multiple benches and watching the sun go down. Very pretty.
The beach itself is good, has a nice family vibe, clean, we were right at the Lazy turtle bar, and that was convenient during the lunch time. We didn’t have to pack and leave anywhere, just ate there. During the busy summer days it gets really crowded, and paid parking (20$ a day), although available around, but hard to get an empty spot. The biggest minus would be the absence of showers, restrooms and boardwalks.
One of largest piers on the East Coast! Easy to get to, free. Get there early places fill up at the end of this town owned gem. Bait& tackle shop, well stocked. Restaurant privately run part in the pier area. Public restroom. (One) beach accessible.
decent little shop with the number of handy fishing and beach related items. had to buy some sunglasses because of sand in the eyes when it was windy off the beach and they were fairly priced. view from the pier especially for sunset spectacular down at the end of the pier.
Pretty place to visit and catch the sunrise. It's not too packed though there was a substantial amount of people there at that time fishing. Everyone sticks to their own though, with friendly "good morning" greetings as you pass by.
Definitely recommend if you are trying to see the sunrise/sunset!
Lovely pier at oak island with quite a few parking place. We got here around 12 and there were still plenty available. Parking was $4 an hour and the beach was packed! Lord of people fishing and surfing.

Paid parking lot with limited spaces, but other lots and spaces within a block.
Great location for fishing. You don't have to have a fishing license. You can buy the daily pass and fish all day. They open at 0600 n fills up pretty quickly, esp on the weekends.
I walked on the pier today. It was beautiful and very well maintained. It’s a nice view from the end. I got an iced coffee at Ruby’s afterwards at the end of the pier. The young ladies working there are very sweet!
