I recently called Hardscrabble Supply to order mulch for both my home and the town triangle in Purdys. When I explained what I needed, the owner—though I didn’t catch his name—immediately said he would donate the mulch for the town triangle. I hadn’t even asked. He simply said that he and generations of his family have lived in this area, and that giving back to the community is the least he can do.
That kind of generosity and commitment to the place we all call home is rare, and it’s exactly why we need to support local businesses like Hardscrabble Supply. While the big-box stores like Home Depot sell mulch by the bag, they can’t offer the heart, character, and community spirit that this small business brings. I’m a customer for life.

I love this company. I am a first time homeowner so doing things like ordering rocks, and dirt are not things that come as first nature to me. The staff was very kind in explaining to me what my options were, some recommendations and helping me order the right amount. Happily when I attempted to order almost a football field worth of dirt, they didn't take the opportunity to sell me way more dirt than I needed, they helped me find out I only needed about 2 yards...not 5 tons :) They have earned my trust as a company and I happily recommend them to anyone who asks.

Great location, products and service. They sell Jonathan Green turf products and have a wide selection of elite mixes for both pro's and homeowners. Your lawn can only be as good as the seed you use.
Highly recommend. Spring time we get all our mulch and material for our property. Winter time we use them for salt and ice control products. Super friendly and family owned. Very quick delivery and great prices. One stop shop.
This business has gone down hill. Presumably the owners handle the reception and calls and they have been rude, short-tempered and insufferable. Not sure what happened. Will not recommend until they make serious changes to the management. It's sad to have to go with big chains but they respect their reputation and their services are much better.
Ordered 50/50 top soil mix but it was mainly clay and nothing will grow out of it.
Rude customer service. The driver was nice, but the guy on the phone was ridiculous. Also got overcharged, and was told that it couldn’t carry over an amount, and then it came with a ton over. Overall not a great experience.
Hardscrabble Supply is amazing. It is a much larger operation than I imagined, yet the yard is run very efficiently and every customer is given personal attention, including home owners picking up small loads. Jeff and Liza are so nice and the materials are top quality and are priced well. We have had mulch delivered in the past and this year we got the 50/50 top soil mix.
I'm pleased with their service, quality, and prices. I ordered 22 yards of mulch for my yard and it was a pleasant transaction. The delivery went smoothly too.
