This was my second time here and it did not disappoint! THE DEETS: A community-oriented restaurant with reasonably priced, locally grown food and high quality seafood. You can't get more local than the food grown on your own farm and more than three quarters of all the vegetables and herbs used in the kitchen are grown on the farm. That makes for a very small carbon footprint and really fresh food! Farmer & the Fish is located within the 22 acre Purdy Land Trust in North Salem, New York in a beautiful 18th century house that dates back to 1775. You are literally dining in a historic house and it is such a nice vibe. FOOD & BEV: We were a party of three and we started off with some bevs of beer and wine with the house bread and delish salted herbed butter. We respectively got a lobster roll, clam chowder with a side of polenta fries, and the tuna burger. Everything was on point and really good. We finished off with a coffee, espresso, and cappuccino. The foam on the cap was so tight & probably on of the best I've ever had. SERVICE: Our main server was amazing but they practice team service and everyone working today touched our table at some point and we felt the love. AMBIANCE: The house itself is one year older than the USA and there is a fireplace in each nook. There is a quaint little bar when you first enter with a small raw bar at the end of it. What a treat and this will not be my last visit! As always, support your local small biz & this is it!!! Cheers.

Went for the valentine’s day pre fix dinner, $135 per person no drinks included. One glass of wine would have made it more worth it. Out reservation was at 7pm, we showed up at 6:58pm and were not seated until 7:15. I noticed all parties were leaving with one red rose, adorable! Some of the waitstaff that had to reach between or around us to get the roses had attitude as if they were mad we were there. There was no where else to stand and the roses were right in the entryway. There were also roses near the bar so they should have just grabbed those. We were second in the group of 7pm reservations, multiple people who came after us were sat first and I had to ask the hostess to seat us (she was walking around calling for the same person over and over when there were 4 or 5 couples waiting). When we were walking to the table, we were asked to check our coats. Great, but should have been done right away instead of 15 mins after the rez. Lady who took our coats also had a bit of attitude. I get its busy but its a special night and couples are paying a lot to be here. The least we could get is a smile. When we were finally sat, we did not get service for another 10/15mins. The waitress came over, gave a big sigh and said “what can I get you to drink?” No introduction, no “happy valentines day”, just very rushed. We ordered, my boyfriend’s drink came alone. We asked the guy who brought the apps over to check on my drink. 20 mins after we ordered, the waitress comes over and says they dont have the ingredients. By 8PM, 1hr after my reservation, I finally got it and was never asked if I wanted another drink. Food was phenomenal, of course. Entree was a little colder than expected (green beans were hotter than meats). All high quality ingredients. Waitress brought us the check but never brought me a rose and bf had to ask for one on the way out. Maybe its a matter of needing more staff or not scheduling as many reservations, but both my boyfriend and I were disappointed with the lack of love. Maybe they don’t realize that this dinner is a once a year experience for some people.

Food was fantastic, but was OBSCENELY over-priced. Went for Valentine's Day: $135 per person fixed menu, so that's $270 fixed without drinks! They should at least TELL you that. People are wearing sweat-shirts in there so it's not fancy. For $300 from the start, I'd expect more And it wasn't that much food. I won't return on principle, but again fantastic food (bummer, why pull moves on your customers?).

First time here, and won’t be my last! Each member of my party enjoyed their meal thoroughly. The staff was attentive, and kind. If you’re looking for an intimate dinner, I highly recommend!!!

After screwing up my own reservation they managed to squeeze us in on a very busy Friday night. Greatly appreciated. Wonderful food. Wonderful service and very nice people.

Food is good. The waitress did not want to be there. She was miserable. The manager was very nice, we waited a long time for a table but once we were seated she brought over oysters and shrimp on the house. Very nice and generous of her to do so.

A cool, upscale tavern vibe with elevated food done right. The atmosphere is stylish but relaxed, the service feels polished without being stuffy, and every dish is thoughtfully executed with bold, memorable flavors. It’s the kind of place where classic tavern fare gets a refined twist.

I rarely ever leave negative reviews, but I felt I needed to share this experience. I ordered my burger medium, and it arrived extremely undercooked — much closer to rare. Mistakes happen, but when I brought it up, the manager insisted it was medium, which was frustrating because it clearly wasn’t. I want to acknowledge that our server was kind and not at fault at all, but the way the situation was handled by management made the experience disappointing. I left feeling unheard and unhappy, which isn’t something I expect when dining out. I hope the restaurant can improve the way they handle customer concerns, because the service staff themselves were lovely.

By far our favorite place ! Jonny is making oysters just perfect! Now a days all the city famous oysteria places should go on a field trip and learn from John on how it should be done! Food is always superb! And Kristen and Mike will always come up with the best drinks, they just always feel your vibe and make sure you feel special and cozy. Wish I could give 10 stars ❤️

Lively 18th century atmosphere, luscious libations, and an inventive menu make for a fantastic dining experience. Definitely makes our top 3 list for this area. From start to finish, the evening flowed effortlessly, and it’s clear this restaurant takes pride in delivering a consistently high-quality dining experience that makes every guest feel valued and every meal feel memorable. Don’t forget to take note of their specials, there are often some real gems waiting for you here!

Incredible food, the service was a touch inattentive but honestly it was busy and the setting was so beautiful it lent to a leisurely pace. The surrounding farm is gorgeous, the oysters were fresh, the Amish Fried Chicken was absolutely spectacular, and our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. The outdoor seating has a beautiful semi wild summer garden just overflowing with lush flowers which filled the air with their scent. I loved it, as did my date.

Love this place!! We took a little detour to explore the town and this cute place caught our eyes. Glad we made a plan change last min and came to this place. Outdoor seating is indeed beautiful we sit inside though given we have no reservation and obviously this place is popular. Service is kinda “cool” style but my server def recommended me an amazing dish - Tuna spicy fried rice maybe? LOVE LOVE LOVE Gonna come back again . This is a perfect brunch or dinner place for people live in westchester or even CT area. The waterfall nearby can be another casual hiking before or after the meal :)

I had the tuna over a bed of rice and shrimp, and it tasted extremely delicious! We had the calamari for an app and it was delicious, It was a little spicy, just like I like it. The clam chowder was one of the best I've had, lots of clams and was not too creamy. I had messed up on my reservations and came a day early. They managed to fit us in even though it was very crowded. I really want to thank them for that.

One of the most remarkable meals I’ve had in recent memory! The entire staff was incredibly hospitable. The food was so fresh, local and cooked perfectly! Not to mention the best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had! Highly recommend!!!!!

We had a lovely late afternoon meal as we were between the seating for lunch and dinner. What a wonderful experience on a warm summer afternoon outside surrounded by beautiful flowers. The food was great (Amish fried chicken and a cheese burger)the waitstaff was attentive and helpful. This is a wonderful place for fine country dining in a beautiful location. After lunch we went to the Farm Shop and bought some. Bagel chips and focaccia/tomato bread. Come here for an enjoyable experience!

Bustling and packed on Friday night Purdy's was a great experience. Exemplary service and cozy ambiance made it a perfect venue for an evening with new colleagues. Got to know each other better over the well prepared dishes. The goat cheese tart and polenta fries were a great start of an evening of lovely dishes. Our entire party stuck with the seafood dishes. The halibut, salmon, and tuna were good and very satisfying. The perfect ending to a wonderful dinner was the amazing bread pudding ....no wonder it is their signature dessert. Great place !

This restaurant had a cozy, farm-to-table dining vibe (see photos of the farm!) with a strong emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The seafood was fresh, and the farm-style dishes are comforting and flavorful. Service is attentive - I never had anything wait for a minute, though the ambiance leans more toward casual than upscale. It got a bit loud. Overall, a great spot for those seeking a rustic yet refined meal that’s Michelin rated.

In North Salem, New York, Purdy's Farmer & the Fish is a renowned restaurant. Located in an 18th-century farmhouse, this eatery is known for its farm-to-table approach, featuring fresh seafood and produce grown on their own farm. The menu offers a variety of seafood dishes, along with a selection of other farm-fresh options. The restaurant’s rustic charm and commitment to locally sourced ingredients make it a popular destination in the area. It’s definitely worth to take time for the fresh food to be cooked.

12/2023: My family met for a special family event and everyone was really wonderful; the service was excellent, the food was fantastic; we had a great time. 8/2023: This is my parents favorite restaurant, the food has always been delicious and the service fantastic ... Tonight, 8/22 we went for dinner, an early dinner, and the waitress immediately had such an attitude ... We continued to be friendly all night, gave her a good tip .. but when I got home I was so sick from eating gluten; I told her several times that I am gluten free yet she gave me food with gluten. 3/2023: Absolutely delicious fresh food! Raw oysters! Scallops on a bed of frissee grown on their farm, the food is amazing, mostly grown locally. We sat in front of a massive fireplace in a colonial house, and the staff is very kind. This restaurant is the best of the best!

We were here last week for dinner and you definitely need reservations. The cocktails were excellent as was the food, and the portions were large. We were rushed to order (we barely had the menus for a few minutes before the waiter was asking for our order) and we asked to order cocktails first. The steamed shellfish app was lovely and was large enough for an entree. It came with one small piece of toasted french bread, not enough for all of the lovely juices in the bowl. We asked for more and were given the house bread (it's kind of a gummy bread), which was disappointing. I had fish & chips, which came with steak fries (not what I expected), and when I asked to take the leftovers home, I discovered the next day that I was only given the sandwich portion, and not the fries. Hence only 4 stars.

Beautiful setting for a perfect summer day whether you are indoor or outdoor seating. The place is stunning and the food is absolutely delicious. Loved the balance of the flavors without overpowering the main ingredient and touch of fresh ingredients from the garden overlooking the restaurant was delightful. Here are a few things I didn’t like - service was on top of my list. The waitress was rude and had a bit of attitude. She gave us no time to settle down, was gone most of the time and kept bringing dishes at the speed of light. Even though the restaurant is considered fine dining, I won’t recommend it to anyone for a special occasion unless you can inhale the food. Another issue I had was, there is no lounge or seating outside if you just want to hang out before or after dinner. You must order drinks if you want to use the seating area which I thought was ridiculous. We had to to ask multiple times for water and the waitress being MIA and no one cleaned up the table which was a huge mess when they cleaned up the appetizer and entrees. I will go. The restaurant failed to live up to my expectations and didn’t give me that warm welcome feel due to the service issues we had throughout our visit. What also amazed me was no one bothered to contact me either after this review.

We came here on a recent Sunday afternoon. Amazing oyster selection, friendly service, but man was it busy. We were seated at the table between kitchen and raw bar where we had the wait staff constantly running by us which made for a very hectic experience. And still, 4 stars for a great meal (lobster role and pasta dishes were excellent), and the dessert was absolutely outstanding. They have a strict reservation policy- you don’t show up they charge your card $25/person. Better be there…and we will certainly be back.

The setting sets the tone for the whole experience. White farmhouse with ample porch and a green house and terrace style planting in the back. The bread is AMAZING with soft butter simply served as you sit. Drink options are great with a little of everything and great tasting original cocktails. We had the fresh oysters, scallops and crab cakes to start and everything was brought out with great timing and appropriate silverware. The main course we had the swordfish, tuna and steak. All well executed and minor new touches that made each dish unique. We ended with desert and it was the best tasting bread pudding I've ever had. The price was fair, seating comfy and ample parking. I can't say enough good things. Also, the service was friendly and we were impressed with the bus boy who was running around making sure all tables were clean. Would 100% recommend and I'm definitely going back.
