Consumer Warning – My Experience With Carrier’s Cars / JM Towing (Red Creek, NY)
I’m sharing my personal experience so others can protect themselves.
After a deer strike, a tow driver stopped and offered help. I was not provided a written rate sheet or full list of charges at the scene. I was quoted $320, paid that amount, and the vehicle was dropped off at my residence.
About 20–30 minutes later, the vehicle was taken again. Police were called, and I was threatened with arrest for “theft of service”, despite payment already being made. The dispute was later confirmed by a judge to be civil, not criminal.
I was repeatedly pressured to sign over the vehicle title to satisfy a tow bill and given invoices that appeared to use repair-shop / mechanic lien language, not towing disclosures. I was also given conflicting statements about whether the vehicle still existed or had been scrapped.
I filed in Oswego County Supreme Court seeking return of my vehicle. The towing company did not appear, and the court issued an Order on Default directing the vehicle be returned. The judge was clearly upset that money had been accepted and the car was still taken.
I’m posting this to warn others:
Get all tow rates in writing at the scene
Do not sign paperwork under pressure
Billing disputes are civil matters
Be very cautious if anyone pressures you to sign over a title
This post reflects my experience only, supported by paperwork, video, and court filings. I hope it helps someone else avoid what I went through.
This shop is amazing, I bring all my cars here along with my family, they have always done good work for me at the right price. My mom's brand new car had a loose exhaust bolt that they tightened up quick free of charge, they dont try to rip you off on the hours.
If I could leave a zero star review I would. Love that the mechanic worsened the problem by ripping out pieces of rust while he sat there and mansplained to me and tried to make me feel like I was incompetent/ a stupid girl.
Be careful purchasing here. Matthew listed a 2011 Camaro SS on marketplace for $25,000, stating it’s flawless and has 50k.
Ran carfax and it’s worth $12,000 retail, $6,500 wholesale with 130k on the clock and it’s been wrecked, airbag deployed
Do not buy here without running carfax!
If I could leave negative stars I would. Matt has to be the worst technician. We always have to call for updates. Every single time we pick up our vehicle we are bringing it back not even a week or 2 later for either the same or a new issue. Every. Single. Time. I will never ever come back. You guys diagnose every single problem wrong.
Very satisfied with their service! Very professional, patient (my anxiety gets the best of me) and down to earth. They don't upcharge you like other places and they are honest with you. I can honestly say I trust them and will definitely continue to go to there! I Highly recommend them!!

Took my car for an oil change and as soon as I got it back the whole car started smoking. It was completely fine before that, when I brought it back it misterosly had a exhaust belt vent broken and wanted to charge me another $200. Don't go here shady mechanics
I think that if you have any problems with your vehicle they will be more focused on getting every penny out of you then actually working on the problems I went with major problems and left with them minus 500 bucks they are lazy and Matt is more worried about his girlfriend than working on cars
Do not go here they cherry picked our car we bought bulbs it cost us over $400 to get the lights working after we paid for the bulbs we're told he replaced 2 wires so barley did anything for the money we paid and still had to take to another shop to be diagnosed it's seriously ridiculous how they treated us!!!
