What clients say about Beaverkill Campground in Roscoe (NY)

The campsite is beautiful and well maintained. However one of the ranger(an old white guy) was very unfriendly and mean towards me and my friend. I have camped at many state parks and NEVER had this kind of terrible experience with the management like this campsite.

A small but beautiful camp ground right on the edge of the creek. There is a volleyball net in the middle and a giant sand pit for the kids. Bathrooms are as expected at a park. The fire pits look like they are getting replaced at most sights. Overall a nice stay.

Small, sites are very much near to each other and especially open which is little frustrating. And with overcrowded, it's tents and Public everywhere. My last camping for sure here.

Great place to camp,or just have a BBQ in the day use area! Swim or fish in the river! Hot showers too???

PROs: Beaverkill's rushing cool clean water/ dipping hole under the covered bridge/ no cell service. These outweigh all cons for us, but here they are for consideration: sites are rather tight and next to each other, no privacy. Facilities quite old/ showers are off site, you have to drive (or hike) and they are also used by day users at the park, which can become crowded with the locals. we could not get hot water to run this time - old plumbing seems to not function properly. No firewood sold on site - bring with you! Not much to do in the area (we went to Russell Brook Fallls and the Alpaca farm) - but the kids had fun running around and playing in the brook. dog friendly place. Staff seem nice, also for the 4th of July weekend it was quite peaceful, although fully booked. nearest supermarket in Roscoe about 30 min away.

Love going to this campground. Great place to disconnect and just enjoy the sounds of the woods. The river runs right along the camp sites and when its not raining the water is absolutely beautiful. Don't expect to use your phones for anything. Cell service in non existent.

This is a great, relaxing place to take a break from cities! There are many things to do there ( fishing, camping, etc) and I really recommend it!

Now campground. If only if we can get more tap water around the camp site would be awesome. Toilets need to be clean. No paper towel and that bathroom. Toilet paper runs out and and stay that way all afternoon and overnight. This is so wrong. We are charged per site and need some facilities added. Dogs are allowed but dog poop are in the grace. Many people do lot clean up after their dog. Hope something will be done about these shortcoming.

Lovely historic Covered Bridges and nearby Castles. They keep the public bathroom clean and restock toilet paper. A little noisy after curfew … a camper left their music on all night. Roscoe is a Very cool town great restaurants, chic clothing and vintage stores.

Had to leave early - camper issues and got sick. Manager told me that I had to call and work the refund through Reserve America. After a drive into town for reception and an hour on the phone with Reserve America, I was informed that the campground manager had to fill out the paperwork. I went back and he reluctantly did so but had a part of the document that only he could see nor show me (but told me he would fill it out to be sure my refund was processed). Two weeks later I received a letter from Reserve America denying the refund. Be aware of this policy - they don't refund changes at NY state parks once you are checked in. I felt like they were dishonest all around. The river and fishing was nice. Campground is tight, but that was not a problem for me. Two bathrooms; one clean and the other dirty and buggy.

Very nice, relatively uncrowded sites. Negative was showers located at beach area, almost a mile away. I can’t tell you if they were even open.

This is a really nice campground, with friendly staff. There's an audible stream which runs past most of the spaces and is pleasant to hear while you're falling asleep. Water spigots are abundant and convenient and the fire pits have those handles which hinge the grates out of the way. The stream is nice for wading. Bathrooms reasonably clean.

This is probably the worst campsite we've been to. We reserved sites 34-36 since it was near the restroom and next to the creek. Little did we know that, these sites were on a slope. We adjusted the tents and sleeping positions a few times. We either felt like we were going down a water slide or hanging upside like a bat, it was unpleasant sleeping positions. We had a big group so we moved the picnic tables to dine together. The employee (or ranger) came 3x daily to "inform" us that certain things were strictly prohibited. We already told him that we will move everything back to its place prior to departure. He came to tell us we can't set up the tent certain way, can't dine in big group and share picnic tables, can't have tarp up in the pouring rain. Yes we understand that it wasn't the ideal set up but he drove by in the middle of pouring rain to inform us to take it down, it was pouring!!!! We felt like being watched the entire time. We can't tell if he did that with others but at some point we felt targeted cuz he literally comes out of nowhere to "warn us" what not to do. We saw other big groups with 2-3 picnic tables and car parked certain way, we wondered if he treated them the same. The camp sites were really small. Our tents were like 3 inches away from the drivable roads. It felt unsafe with our toddler. And it was not pleasant setting up next to others due to lack of privacy and listening to their snores throughout the night. The shower was about 3 mins drive at another building with closing hours at 8:30pm on the weekends. Some group members didn't get a chance to rinse since we were not aware of the time. The creek was nice. It was too shallow to swim but everyone had fun escaping the heat in the cold water. We didn't see a playground but there's a sandbox and volleyball court on the sand.

The sites are a little close together but we went during the weekend and i was afraid it would crazy packed and noisy. But not the case. Was very laid back and quiet. Very relaxing. If tenting get a site along the river for extra enjoyment

Overall an okay experience. We went during The middle of the week so it wasn’t busy at all. Had we gone on a weekend I think our experience would have been much worse due to the fact that all campsites are very near to one another with little to no separation between them. We were at site number 32 which is near to the river, however there is no way of getting down to enjoy the river unless you want to walk through very dense bushes and plants. A few campsites down from us looked like they had nicer and easier access to the river and the sites were also a little bigger and more secluded. Our site was really small, we almost couldn’t find a spot to put our tent that was far enough away from the fire pit and flat, and there was really no appeal for us to stay and hang out at the campsite, which is something I normally love doing. There is running water and the bathrooms were basic but in pretty good condition. Showers are in a separate building and I think you had to pay for hot water for showers which we didn’t bother with. The swimming area is decent with beautifully clean water, a mostly rocky shore and one area of the river that goes deeper so is nicer for swimming (otherwise it’s pretty shallow). We went on a little hike along the river near the shower building and the area is beautiful! We kept saying it’s a shame there weren’t campsites in this area because it felt more secluded and like you were “in nature“. The employee who checked us in was personable and pointed us in the direction of good firewood that we could find at the campgrounds for free. I’m giving two stars because I really value a campsite with more privacy and the feeling of really being in nature, and I really don’t enjoy campsites where it is more like a large lot that has been cleared out and you are 10 feet away from your neighbor.

Overall a pretty good place to camp. Right on the river so great for hotter months. Though most of the river is shallow but a few places are around 5 feet to lay/dunk in plus a larger deeper section under the bridge you could swim in. Dogs loved it. Bathrooms were clean. Only one shower station a bit of a walk away from main camping sites, but multiple toilet stations were closer. Stated sorting station for recycling but garage/room was just 2 bins to place all bags. No designated washing station for dishes even though red bear status. Sites were a little on the smaller side and very close, literally right next to your neighbor site. But spent most of the time walking through the river and hiking. 0 cell service.

Been going to the Beaverkill Campground a few times a year, for...47 years! Lol...ok, I'm getting old! But... It's one of my favorite places on earth for swimming in the Summer (tough to beat swimming under a covered bridge), and hiking year round. I do not post a lot of pictures, but i posted that one as it was taken on April 3rd! Great area to BBQ too!

Absolutely lovely camping spot! Right next to the river (so it's pretty damp and cold at night), always quiet and serene. The only reason I knocked off a star is the staff has to do something to address the bathrooms every once in a while. I get that it's a campsite, but humans also require a functioning toilet, so...

I hesitate to write this review because I’m afraid I’ll have a harder time getting a reservation next time BUT this place is absolutely the most peaceful calming zen campground I have ever had the pleasure of staying in. The river runs along it and the sound of the water is almost hypnotic. No power, no internet, no cell service. Just you and nature. I was there for 4 nights, left to do 8 days in the finger lakes, cut that trip in half and returned to Beaverkill because the river was calling me back. Spot 73 is the best by far. There were few people playing their music a bit louder than I’d like, and the bathrooms were a tiny bit outdated but the location and staff were just so over the top amazing it more than made up for it. I can not wait to go back.

Small Campground compared to other state park campgrounds in NY, but beautiful nonetheless especially ones by the river. Bathrooms to be desired, but hey you're camping! Plan to arrive between 2-9PM for check in on your first night, otherwise you will be turned away like we did. We still came back to finish the rest of our reservation and requested refund for our first night.

Loved it here. Campsite 77. Some of the sites are a little close together, but ours was in a great spot with nobody across from us. Our site also had a small sandy beach area instead of just rocks like most of the other waterfront spots. Apparently sites 71-75 are in high demand and have seasonal renters who come every year. Staff was friendly, the place is dog-friendly, and we had a great time. Plenty of river space to put up a chair and have a soda in the water right by your campsite if you get a water spot. Shallow all the way across this time of year. July 2020. No more than thigh-deep where we were. Walking across is easy but a little slick, duh. Great birdwatching.

Really great site. There is a lot of privacy between most campsites. A river flowing nearby gives fishing opportunities. Even on a warm summer day, the nights get pretty chilly due to the river. Pets are allowed on leash. Exploring the area on a bicycle is fun. Plenty of trees for hammocks. No platforms for the tents.

First the campground is difficult to reach. If you go the wrong way, you will find out that the bridge leading into the campground is only 6 ft. 6 in. You will have to turn around and head back the way you came, over another one lane bridge to be on the correct side of the river. I understand it’s not the parks fault, but better signs warning people approaching the park would be a great help. The sites are very close together, and right next to the road. Most of the sites are gravel, with almost no tree cover from the sun. The showers are outside the campground on the day use area. Men’s showers where clean, but my wife did not say the same thing for the women’s. Also they don’t tell you that the gate is closed at 9PM, so if you happen to shower at night keep that in mind.

Clean public area. Great for day visit or camping. Great for all types of fishing for Trout. Open hiking trails.

Very friendly staff, sites are roomy and well kept. now that the bridge has been fully restored the trip to the shower's is a breeze. And they are very hot and free. Highly recommend the camp ground. It's quite and if you enjoy fishing it's the perfect spot

Good: Location is excellent. Close to the river and local lakes. Firewood service is a huge win but the cost is 9 bucks per bag. Just up the road it is 5 bucks. Bad: sites are on top of each other. No privacy at all. Campers and tents can be side to side. No fun in that. Very noisy and agan. No privacy. Bathrooms are abundant but very dirty and bug filled. Other campgrounds in the area had cleaner facilities. Conclusion- it is 3 stars. Could be better but not horrible. There are better options in the area.

Cozy place, but not much privacy. I am a beginner in camping and feel comfortable when other people around me in wildwood area. Only problem was the shower which was far away from camping area...you can walk to the trail to other side to take a shower but its like 30 minutes walking. Better drive.

One of the best Campgrounds in NY State quiet and serene next to the Beaverkill river in Livingston Manor/Roscoe Area. The Employees are great and the campsite is cleaned continuously. One of my favorites. The only glitch is the shower house is outside of the campsite near the day use area at the Covered Bridge. PS. one of the best swimming holes on the Beaverkill I say give it a try !!
