Beware! Went to buy a sweater that was priced at $3.99. the cashier said it had a security alarm on it, then proceeded to the back room where the manager ripped off the price tag, said the price was changed, and then said the price was $14.99. I said I didn't change the price, check the cameras, but she insisted that "someone" changed the price and she wouldn't sell it for $3.99. the manager was rude, and very unprofessional to a customer who shops there frequently and also donates there often. This place should be investigated.

Went there n found an expensive yellow tag dress. Actually 2 dresses. They had those security tags. I said to the girl, oh please make sure u remove them. She just kinda looked at me. I saw her remove the tag on the 2nd dress. I said, did u get the first dress security tag? She kinda looked at me. I guess i wasn't worth her energy to respond to me as a customer. When I went to walk out the door, the alarm beeped. The guy at his register right near the door checked my bag, n found a security tag on one of the dresses n he kindly removed it. I thanked him, but I did tell him it would've been quite a problem for me to drive ALL THE WAY BACK TO FARMINGVILLE AS I LIVE FAR AWAY. I also told him I had asked that cashier girl to make sure the tag was off twice! Obviously, that cashier girl really doesnt care about good customer service or being polite to the customer when asked a question n just kinda looking at you. Finally, when I got home n hung up the VERY EXPENSIVE YELLOW TAGGED DRESS,there is saw near the bottom A GIA N T CIGARETTE HOLE!!! I know it is our responsibility to examine the clothing before buying, but while your in the store, you hold it up, you turn it around, u try it on in the dressing room, abd you DONT SEE THE GIANT CIGARETTE HOLE TILL U GET HOME!!! DONT THEY LOOK AT THIS STUFF BEFORE THEY PASS UT OFF AS EXPENSIVE WITH A YELLOW TAG??!!! I feel the store doesnt care, and they just want to sell ANYTHING to make a buck! Shame on you ameruan thrift! And the owner can feel free to contact me! Terrible!!

Overall, excellent experience! It was very organized very clean very professional operation. A diverse selection and fair prices, including the designer/luxury brand names. Large inventory and comfortable fitting room. This should be a shopping destination on any thrifter itinerary mid-Island.

I have shopped here several times and in comparison to other local thrift stores, the prices are a bit cheaper. The downsides are that all of the clothing is color coordinated but not organized by size. This is very time consuming. Also I noticed on my receipt today a $.25 “supply fee.” (Not sure what exactly this means.)
Feb 10, 2026 -
As others have pointed out they charge a one time “supply fee” per transaction. Bad business practice

The best place ever I go every Wednesday.I love this place. The staff is always friendly and very respectful.

Cashiers are beyond rude. Asked if a damaged item could be priced down and she proceeds to speak in Spanish mocking me with the trainee, unaware that I'm Hispanic and could understand everything she was saying. 2 stars because I found a nice hat.

Good selection, however, their color tag sales are bogus just like the other thrift stores. For example, red, green, and blue 50% off. You won’t find any of those color tags anywhere for that sale. Just gets you in the store that’s it.

VERY expensive for a thrift store. Yes, they do have some great pieces, however, the prices are out of control. Won’t be returning. They are definitely ripping people off.

Started going to American Thrift a year ago and the best thing now is the selection. If you know your fabrics and have time to hunt, you can find some really great items at true thrift prices. Sadly most other items have become way overpriced i.e. a peeling Ralph Lauren wallet for $40 just because the LRL name is on it. Their yellow tag "luxury" items aren't much better. They're slowly pricing themselves out of the market for true thrift shoppers. Hopefully they realize this and return to their roots.

The store is huge and has a wide variety of items from home goods to clothing and other miscellaneous. You could spend a few hours in there and most items are reasonably priced, but there’s a “luxury” section where certain clothing cost more. There’s different discounts every day, so the deals are better for pricier items. The staff are friendly and I enjoy coming here during my free time!

Item was repriced at the register because cashier felt it was priced too cheaply .

Probably one of my favourite thrift shops. They have very super affordable prices for practically everything. And you have a high probability of getting new stuff at really affordable prices too.

Listen. i’ve worked in retail for years and years and i have a lot of patience for cashiers and retail workers. But… these cashiers are probably the rudest, dumbest people i’ve ever encountered. tell me why they gave me a hard time when i was trying to buy a set of dishes. They were $7.99 for a set of 24, looked everywhere and could only find 4 when i tried to pay 7.99 for the 4 they said i can’t. really i should only be paying

The staff are nice. I read people say the place is clean. However, the products they sell are not. Their prices are crazy. They use the internet to price their things. How? Things sold on the internet are refundable, refurbished, and at least clean ! Example: Jbl shelf speakers $49.99. Sounds like a great deal; right? Well, when you pull off the speaker covers, they are covered in webs and dirt. Then, the back of the wood box is split. It's not worth 49.99 imo. $20-25. Stuff like these are a regular theme in this thrift. A PSP THEY WANT $69.99. Good, right? Well, there are no plugs, just the device and the case. So, if it doesn't work, you're stuck with a brick. Imo, if a store is going to use Google to price their stuff. Offer the same accommodations. Update: 9/6/2025. I notice everyone is saying they get their inventory from donations. Hmmm? I have a family member that can do an audit to see if this is the truth. Not for nothing but I have purchased things that were clearly marked NEW, and they didn't work or missing stuff that made the purchase a complete lose! I am not saying everything is li nm e that. There clothes are really good. Tools and electronics are overpriced and a lot are broken. For example, I bought a cat water bowl for my kittos. I plugedit in before I bought it. Light turned on. I figured, okay looks good. I put water to get it set up for my kitties. The damn thing lights up...... no water fall/water filtering. I wouldn't be mad if this only happen once. I had things like I said box marked new taped shut. Get it all out of the box. Things missing. Ext. I'm done@

Went here today for the happy hour sale and it was pleasant. I wasn’t aware that it’s only 50% on 3 colored tags and not the majority of the store since the sign says it’s most of the store. Most of the clothing have tags that aren’t on sale which is unfortunate and the prices are a bit steep, especially for the jackets). But the staff was friendly and I will definitely be back.

Okay so the best thing here is the selection. You could spend literally all day here it's huge. However, the pricing has become absurd. These "yellow tag" items they think are a gold mine? Yeah old outdated Reformation dresses for $59 and Gucci botton down tops for $99 is insane. I get it, the brands are listed for maybe that much on ebay or poshmark, but they're not selling for that, with audiences of 135 million. When you have an audience of maybe a few hundred you need to be way more flexible, especially since 99% of it is WAY out of style and demand. And 10% Tuesday membership (which costs $13.00 a month) cutting 10% off is still too much. You can literally get these items cheaper online, as you can see from my photos, just 2 examples. That blazer is priced at $499 and it is from 2006. Out of style stuff isn't selling for these prices. High retail doesn't equal high resale, in any market.

I purchased a very expensive designer skirt here, and got home only to realize that they didn't take the security tag off. I live an hour and a half away and I don't know what to do, but no one is answering the phone at the store. I'm really upset and don't have time to drive all the way there just to fix this!

My new favorite thrift store since it’s opened. I like that they organize by color rather than size, and usually always find a few cute things. I think the pricing is pretty reasonable, and the store is pretty clean. And big plus is that they have mirrors in the dressing room, not every thrift does! I do wish there were more than three dressing rooms though i see other reviews complaining about the price of certain items, but I don’t usually shop there for the “high end” items or for anything other than clothes so idk about that. Overall I would recommend this place for clothes shopping

Brianna is my absolute favorite! We found a shirt we really liked, but it was too expensive. Brianna was able to bring the price down for us. Super friendly and overall amazing! Love you brianna ❤️

Such a great experience each time I go to this thrift store… not only is it super clean and organized but the staff is kind and helpful. I am writing this because one particular staff member went above and beyond today to help me.. Brianna! She has the such a sweet personality and is one awesome sales person! She sold me gorgeous Chanel shoes and explained their amazing club discounts as well as the daily discounts. She was patient and knowledgeable.and took her time helping everyone enjoy their shopping experience. I watched her greet customers and invite them to see the new designer items. I will continue to shop at this location because Brianna made the experience so inviting!!! Visit, join the members club and look for Brianna ?

I'm not a thrift shopping expert, but having taken my teenage daughter and a few friends to a handful the last few weeks I've seen a reasonable cross-section so far. American Thrift store is surprising large and pretty well organized, with a very good selection of clothing, shoes, kids toys/apparel, and odds and ends. The quality was generally quite good from what we saw and bought. I found the collectables to be a bit less than some other stores, and they don't have as defined a location (largely sitting on top of clothing racks as opposed to having their own). Customer service was excellent and pricing was outstanding (my daughter picked from some of the sale items that were 50% off that weekend). I would definitely recommend.

The store is clean and there is a lot of “stuff” but that’s all I can say I liked. 1. They have a lot of over priced things. They actually get some prices by searching google. I found an item sitting around all $3.99 items and didn’t have a tag. I brought it to a manager and they pulled out their phone and took a picture through google and told me it was $20.if it was in better quality I could see that price but it was not in a great condition. 2. If you’re looking for clothing it is nicely organized by colors but if you need a specific size you’re going to be searching for quite a while. 3. The books used to be organized by theme when this place first opened but no longer. They are also crammed together and it’s hard to view all the books. 4. Goes with 1 but it should be said a lot is way over priced. Even if you see a 50% sale they still are over priced. And it bothers me to see that given they mostly have donated goods. Finally not that it will make or break a person but every customer is charged $.25 for every transaction. They call it a service fee. Not sure why.

Such an amazing thrift store honestly feels refreshing since so many others in Suffolk county charge crazy prices. Always end up finding some great things! Recommend 100%

CUSTOMER BEWARE: EMPLOYEES REFUSE TO SELL ITEMS THEY DEEM ARE PRICED TOO CHEAP I have been coming to this thrift store for a few months. I have spent hours upon hours shopping. I have brought my sisters and my mother along on separate occasions so that they too can shop with me. Last week, I went to check out my items and there were two shirts that did not have a tag. The lady told me that she could not sell it and I asked her to make up a price. I really liked the shirts but she said she couldn’t do that. I understood so I asked if I could leave her my number, to call me once the prices were made and she kindly agreed. Sadly, they never called me and I came today with my sister and she found both shirts. I was SO happy! We went to checkout our items and the SAME girl at checkout told me she could not sell me one of the shirts. I asked her why and she said because it has a security tag and it was only $4.99. I was so confused by that and she brought a lady with her. The lady told me the shirt was the wrong price and that the tag was switched out. I told her I did not do that. They could have checked the cameras if need be. She told me customers do it all of the time which is weird because if a customer did that they would have tried purchasing it and it would have been in their hands already. Also, how would it be my fault someone might have switched the tag. It’s a USED shirt, no new tag, no name brand, there was nothing that would have made the price significantly higher. They literally did not let me buy the shirt all because they thought it was too cheap. I really wanted that shirt for a family member (she is young and has a specific style) and I was happy TWICE I would get the chance to gift it to her. I am so upset at the situation, I have promised myself I will not be coming back to this store. To the Spanish lady who refused to sell it, I genuinely hope you gained something out of that. Maybe she wanted the shirt for herself, who knows. People are so cruel nowadays.

The Best Customer Serivce Cashier I’ve encounter while shopping. She is joyful, pleasant, polite and a hard worker. Helped me in many ways with my items that I purchase. I shop in your store on a weekly basis. Brianna is the best!! She’s a great asset to this store. Wishing her the best for future career because she’s an amazing young lady.

Store is very clean, staff is helpful and new inventory is constantly being put out on the floor. Had a stand out experience with a cashier named Brianna last week. Super friendly, complimentary of my selections and how I put them together. A cashier like Brianna makes the shopping experience even more special. Looking forward to my next visit!

I am a frequent customer at American Thrift, especially during their Friday happy hour. Today I was checked out by Brianna and she was so friendly and kind. I have been to AT many times and haven’t had conversations with any of the other employees, but Brianna went out of her way to make sure that my experience was excellent
