I always recommend this place to my friends cuz at beginning I was crying when I hear the price to rebuild my van transmission but when I started my van Wii was like being in a plane and that van still driving for years , I sold to a friend and now he don’t want to sell it back haha

Last year they rebuilt the differential on my 2001 Tundra. This year they replaced a rear axle seal. I met Frank and Frank Jr. Both of them took good care of me. The work was well done. They were well worth the trip from Shelter Island.
Frank and his crew are top shelf experts. They're responsive, honest and easy to work with. They determined the differential was in perfect shape BUT the Toyota dealership used the wrong rear LSD differential fluid in my Tacoma. Runs perfectly now.
If you happen to find F & J when looking for a transmission shop or autobody shop your best bet is to keep it moving. The owner of this place is a shady character trying to get over on customers that don't know what time it is. F & J is the stereotypical reason that the automotive service and repair industry has a poor reputation.
Brought in my Mercedes Benz suv to get put in a new transmission just to find out when we brought the suv to the Mercedes dealership a couple days after they “put the new transmission in” the dealership told us no work was done and that we got scammed out of 4 grand, YES 4 GRAND!!! Didn’t even bother with asking for the refund and ended up junking the thing. Long story short don’t trust these people.
Scam artists. All the 5 star reviews are fake and paid for. Took advantage of my grandmother who didn't know much. Luckily I caught them before hand. This was on a 2012 bmw last year...
Awesome service. Was having what I thought to be transmission issues with my 02 Honda Pilot. I was under this impression because I had previously taken it to two other mechanics whom both told me the transmission was shot and I’d have to get a whole new one. As one last attempt at saving my car, I took it to F and J Transmissions because if someone is gonna tell me the transmission on my car is shot I’d rather it be a transmission specialist. Soon after dropping my car off with them I received a call, George was the mechanics name, he told me that the alternator was actually the problem, not the transmission. So they fixed up the alternator and in the span of just a couple of days had saved me upwards of $2000. I’m very grateful for my experience with F and J !!
I was Referred To F&J from and Indy oil change spot. They told me they are the best in this part of the Island and he brings his car there. So, I went they were right great work honest did good job loved it ! Became my new mechanic!!!!!

I can't imagine why the reviews on here aren't great . I have always brought my car to F&J Transmissions for all of my repairs. My husbands car needed a transmission. My car needed work. Frank and Sal have always been honest and pleasant. The shop is cleaner than any other auto repair I've ever been to.

had my rear end fixed and new rear axles on my Nissan Titan here cost me over $4000.00 about a year now ( of course the warrantee is up ) and I'm having my pinion seal and bearings replaced again at a different shop !!!!
and have been told the job F&J did for me should have cost max $2500 !!!!
do not use these people for anything at all i would not even bring a car there to be inspected or have air put in my tires , the absolute worst mechanical experience I've ever had
i bet you your reading this and you got ripped off like i did all because you trusted these two scumbags with your vehicle, only time will tell when all of us will file a lawsuit against them, but for now you can keep my $3000 that was just a governor pressure sensor, when the time is right you will be hearing from me
Worst experience in my life. I needed my transmission rebuilt, Sal and Frank both play games , lost my keys , messed up remote start. First time was 4 months, than 2nd time was 9 months to rebuild and Fox a transmission correctly on a F-350. Use any other shop. Believe me , couldn't have been a worse experience. Didn't offer a rental, had a different excuse every time I called. I almost freaked out and did something really crazy after waiting a year total . Good Luck if you use them for anything !!!
I have a 2008 Dodge Durango SLT. The free pick-up and drop-off service is what made me look into them. After asking them how long it would be to fix it, and hearing that it would take about a week, I had them come pick up the truck. They told me I would have to pay money to open up the engine to see what was wrong. They held my truck for a week and never opened the engine because their "engine guy" was out sick. Apparently, they only have 1 engine guy. Anyway, I took my truck back after the week because I needed to take it on a trip. I came back from my trip and they told me, in a nutshell, they didn't want to do the work. It was too much trouble to work on the truck and they would rather just drop an engine in it than find and fix the problem. They didn't think my warranty would cover replacing the engine, so they didn't want to do the work. They NEVER TOOK THE ENGINE APART, yet they concluded that the engine needed to be replaced. I am utterly disappointed. I will find some other business that actually wants to fix my truck instead of jerk me around. Don't waste your time.
