We dropped off a 2000 Honda Accord that needed some minor work done to it and explained to them that we needed it back within seven days as there is a wedding in the family coming up. They let the car sit for seven days without even touching it and we asked them to please get it done so the car could be used to drive to the airport, They said “no,” put the keys in the car and left it out in the lot for it to be vandalized or stolen. So in short, they didn’t honor their word, they fixed nothing on the car, nor did they even order the parts that were needed, then got so butt hurt that they passive aggressively left the car out on the lot with the keys in it so that anyone could just steal it which caused further stress for us as it is the only car we have in the area. Horrible business. They don’t honor their word, and are very passive aggressive. Do not take your vehicle here.
Reserved Uhaul here. Got here at the appropriate time, but door was locked and no one was there. Called and knocked on the door for about thirty minutes. Tried to pick it up online, but it told us to go inside for assistance. Ended up having to call UHAUL and cancel the reservation. Looking at reviews, this is not the first time this has happened apparently...
They were so kind and really helped us out - they totally fixed the issue with our very old car at an extremely fair price. Highly recommend Skippy's!!!
I love these guys! Great mechanics and office staff who seem to be able to work on just about anything. I've taken my VWs and a Sprinter there. On my older VW van, they often have to think outside the box which is unfortunately necessary :). The do quality work an they're all just really nice.
A truly kind hearted and genuine mechanic! Can’t be thankful enough! We were driving from Buffalo on the Christmas Eve and our car break warning light came on along with multiple system warnings. We were panicking as the road was icy and we have a baby with us for another ten hour ride. We were an hour away from the auto shop and Nathan answered the phone m. Nathan went all out to help us, strangers to him who had yet paid him anything. He explained and clearly guided us through the whole process. We made it back home safe and sound because of Nathan! Nathan was beyond helpful and truly has a kind heart. He was so passionate when explaining about cars. We will always remember Skippy’s Auto Repair each time we drive past Potsdam! Thank you!
Drove 45 minutes to get there and the front doors were locked when I tried to pick up my rental due to no one being at their “open” business. Had to call multiple people including uhaul to figure out how I could get my vehicle. Ended up having to cancel my rental because no one would call back after waiting 35 mins in their parking lot for a call back. I was on a very limited time frame with that vehicle. You guys have it on a system that a customer will be there and you lock the doors and take off. I personally would not recommend going through them for Uhaul services.
Had an appointment at 9am and the sign on their door said closed and the door was locked...got a call from the guy saying he didn't see me outside and he didn't even check his phone as I was calling multiple times...I get that trial and error happens but I am frustrated that it was a complete waste of my time.
I have never been here personally but I called for a friend. It was after hours and someone needed a tow. A friend gave me their number. Not only did he come out and get their van, he transported them to a hotel and offered to pick them back up to get their car when it was finished being repaired, saying he would look at it first thing in the morning. Super nice and friendly guy! Now I know who to call! He was very considerate and made sure everybody was happy! Way to go!
Reserved a moving truck through the U-Haul website. Showed up at the designated time. Truck was there, but door was locked, and no instructions for picking up the truck. Eventually moved my reservation online to the U-Haul store in Canton where I had a wonderful experience.
5 stars is not nearly enough to compliment their service. I got my semi stuck and they came right out and got me out. Communication the whole way was beyond superb. They were corteous and friendly, very professional and reasonably priced; well exceeding my expectations. Thanks so much.
Charged my elderly parents with a $700 tow bill for hauling a car less than ten miles and " "storing" for less than a week while they were in the hospital from the accident.
Scum bag business with a scum bag owner.

I have had two experiences with this "business" and both were terrible. (Yea, I should have learned from my first experience.)
My first experience involved an effort to rent a U-haul trailer. In person--at Skip's--I made a reservation to rent a particular trailer that was small and lightweight. They had only one of these trailers and since I had first seen it, over the course of months it had never left their property. I made the reservation weeks in advance and saw one of the employees write in my name, etc., on their wall calendar. A couple of days before the rental date, I drove past Skip's and saw that the trailer was not on their property. I figured that someone had finally rented it and assumed it would be back by the time I needed it. Of course, on the morning of the rental it was not there. Where was it? In Tupper Lake! I pointed out my reservation on their wall calendar to an employee. What did they tell me? Paraphrasing: "Oh, I didn't write that. I didn't see that." So, I drove down to Washington DC--a nine or 10 hour drive--minus quite a few items that I later had to ship down there for nearly $200.
My second experience involved helping a friend get their car inspected. Over the phone, my friend made an appointment for 2:00 p.m. on a Wednesday. However, upon arriving at Skip's, the person who performed their inspections said their machine was down, uploading new software. He said it would take about one or two hours. He asked for my phone number and I gave it to him. After over about an hour, I called to ask him if the machine was up and running. He said it would probably take another 45 min. to an hour. I returned to Skip's a little after 4:00. Guess what? He wasn't there! Instead, there were two employees offloading or onloading some vehicles onto a trailer. When I approached the office, they asked what I wanted. I told them I had a reservation for a vehicle inspection. One of them asked: "At what time?" I said, paraphrasing: "Two o'clock, but your machine was updating, so I was asked to come back a couple of hours later." So, smarty boy said the guy I spoke to earlier--the only person who does inspections there--had gone out on a towing call. This was not the end of it, as I got into a heated (but relatively brief) discussion with these two geniuses about all sorts of fun stuff. No inspection. Total waste of my time and I drove home with a seriously clenched jaw and white knuckles. Why wasn't I called to be informed that they were going out on a towing job? (Remember, he had my number.) The (partial) answer to these questions is that these people do not give a damn.
You can believe me or not, but I have never written a Google review. Do not do business with these people!!! The place is like a pigsty, reservations mean nothing to them, they do not inform customers of issues that will hinder the servicing of your vehicle or rentals, and they act as if you're the one to blame for their GROSS INCOMPETENCE!!!
I'll tell you what. If you insist on potentially doing business with these people, just walk into their office and take a look around. Then look at the condition of their garage. Also, look around at the grounds. Just the look of it says it all. They way they conduct themselves is the way they will conduct themselves with you.
I've been here a few times with my car and honestly I have no complaints at all. They have always got me in on time and had me out faster than expected and the quality of their service has been handsdown one of the best in the north country.
My radiator broke, so I took my car to the place down the road (Stickney's). The people there were rude so I left and took my car here. At Skip's, they were really friendly, and really helpful! They had a new radiator in my car the next day. This was almost a year ago, and it's still radiating well.
