I loved the fact that this place used to be 24/7, we need to push to change the NM state law that requires someone to be present during business hours.
This should not be a state law, it should be a local law.
Before I could drop cardboard off anytime, now because I’m always working during their business hours, I never do any recycling, I end up, throwing all my cardboard in my trashcan.
Lifelong Albuquerque resident who has ZERO regrets moving here 2 years ago even knowing about the recycling inadequacy.
Step 1) I discovered there is no curbside recycling with UWS. I kind of get it, Bosque Farms is a small town. Next step...
Step 2) Put all recyclables in one bag except for glass just to find out I need to separate EVERY SINGLE MEDIUM so took that bag to Albuquerque which doesn't require that level of separation and they were happy to take it. Next step...
Step 3) Bought 4 bins for the house which took up 1/4 of my front wall but wanted to try and be as environmentally friendly as I can be, within reason anyway.
Step 4) Packed up all 4 bins in the combined trunk and back seat of my car and went to drop off tonight only to discover they were closed for business because as we all know, recycling gates have to have full time monitors...
Step 5) Took all bags in my overloaded car and dumped them in a local business trash bin that same night.
Step 6) Collected all 4 of my new home recycle bins and also took them to a dumpster, again same night.
Step 7) Placing all "recyclables" in the trash from this day forward until I can have curbside and non-separated means to properly dispose of all "recyclables"...
Pro-tip for Valencia County or any other locale that professes to be "pro recycling": Make it as easy as possible to ensure that not only radical environmentalists will participate but also us average Joe's who are only willing to do so much but will participate if you make it easy enough to accommodate you...
I wish I could give you negative stars. I can not access this center due to its hours of operation. I can not risk getting dirty by emptying my bags before I go to work and it is closed when I am off from work. I have to pay some one to either take my items to the center (which I can not afford) or pay someone to take a large amount to the landfill (which is more expensive than my first option). It must be nice having a job where all afternoons and evenings are free, your idea of public service hours are really not cohesive with the real public who do not get off work until 5 or 6 pm.
Edited review since the hours and recycling options have changed... Nice little recycling depot and easy to use. You will need to sort, so please come ready to separate your stuff and do not cross contaminate. They accept glass, tin, aluminum, cardboard, mixed paper, and plastics (#1-#7, separate bins for 1/2 and 3-7). They also have a section for electronic and other larger waste that I'm not totally clear on. PLASTIC BAGS CANNOT BE RECYCLED, DON'T PUT BAGS IN ANY BIN.
Pull in, separate your stuff, and drive home. Easy!
