Overcharged, not professional company. Avoid to get service from them.
I had a car have a few issues, they did change me over $900 only for change one head light and change oil, and when they complete the service, still left me tire sensor warning, and they told me that they have no idea how to fix it. also the car still left other warnings there, but they don't know what happens.
This is a company that is lacking of professional knowledge while only over changed me a lot. Avoid this company.Dec 16, 2025 -
Ed is the best. He has never stirred me wrong. He does his do diligence to make sure he gives you the best service. And he is fair. I have been his customer for years and I highly recommend him to everyone.

Ed is a pretty nice guy. Never had any problems coming here. He was very courteous to give me a quick lift back to my place when I needed some big repairs done. Let’s go Mets!!

This is an excellent car repair shop. Ed is very courteous and charged a fair price. They can fix any car. I bring my BMW here and I see all sorts of car being serviced. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone seeking repair or just a service.

I'm giving this 3 stars because of the price. The work is 5 stars - if you don't care about what you pay for auto work then stop reading and go here. He does good work and is a decent guy. If you do care about money and it doesn't come out of your behind, well... I found this shop while looking for quotes to replace a VTC actuator in my engine. He quoted me $1000 which I felt is a very fair price for this - the dealer wanted double (but I don't ever do work at the dealer because they're a ripoff). I was having trouble finding anyone who even wanted to do the work but IDK why, I didn't have any problems, it was just a known issue that would have been covered under warranty if I'd have caught it some 90k miles earlier. Anyway. That was fine, got a decent price on that. BUT then I had an issue where my rear caliper was leaking brake fluid. Caliper needed to be replaced and he said I needed to do the pads too. Ok, whatever. So, one caliper, set of pads. Total: 630$. Insane? YEAH DEFINITELY. I was charged $200 for the caliper. I've done my own brakes several times and my calipers are always seized. It's a known issue with my model year. So, I know what they cost. Once I return the core it's usually about $150. That's without a shop discount since I'm just a regular person. So, I was charged over retail from a shop that obviously gets a discount. I was charged about $90 for the pads. I pay, for ceramic pads, about $60. Again, charged OVER retail price. The labor was another $300 which was for maybe 2, 2 and a half hours? It takes me 2.5 hours and I'm not a mechanic, I don't do it every day, I don't have a lift or power tools. I was SO annoyed this day, I felt I overpaid so terribly. So yeah. Idk. Call and get a price first. The work is great but if you don't have any amount of money to just throw at your car problems, you probably should find a cheaper shop. Being charged over retail price for parts by a shop that gets a discount is just unreasonable.

What I like most about Ed/Phoenix is I can trust him to not take advantage. Genuine honest mechanics are hard to come by
As long as I own my Yaris I will be visiting this location in Metuchen for all my automotive needsJan 08, 2022 -
Took my 2015 GMC VAN to Ed he found the battery drain that the original remote start installer and dealer could not find. Had to by a new piece of equipment to figure out the problem. Very reasonable.
Then I took my wife's 2004 forester for a muffler. Did not want to put a new complete exhaust system on a 17 year old car. Ed told he would try to save the exhaust pipes and just replace the muffler and he did. Very reasonable again.
Great service and price.Jul 15, 2021 -
We own a local business in town and have used various other local shops that have been untrustworthy. We decided to try out Phoenix and Ed was absolutely fantastic! He took care of our two trucks quickly and thoroughly. We are happy to find someone who not only owns local, but lives local—his integrity is what will keep us for the long haul as we grow (and bring him more and more trucks!)

Don't go. Find a new mechanic. Seemed fine for the first few visits mostly for the same issue. Last visit went something like this after paying. He didn't show me the receipt until I paid for the replacement of all 6 coils.
Customer: I see you changed the plugs?
Ed: Yes. I don't know who put those plugs in but they were all carbed up!
Customer: you did 1 month ago.
Ed: Uhhh. Oh. I haven't looked at your history in a week or so.
Customer: Please refund me for the plugs.
Ed: Ok. I'll give you a refund of $127 for the plugs.
Customer: Is there labor associated with it - bill clearly shows labor for plugs.
Ed: Well it says "remove and install" not replace. I would have to do that even if there were no new plugs.
Customer: !!!???####&!
Ed: I'll see if I can get a warranty on the old plugs. I'll go that route and then refund you.
some time passed.
Ed gives me a refund for the plugs not the labor of $157.50. Total bill is about $800.Jul 21, 2018 -
We have been taking our car to Phoenix Auto for a long time now. Ed can fix anything that comes up and he keeps the car running great at 180,000 miles. He takes the time to explain what is not working and why, which is appreciated. I have complete trust in him and can honestly say that when you leave the car with him, you don't have to think about anything twice.

I have been bringing my car to Ed at Phoenix for 5 or 6 years now and have always loved the speedy service and prices he has given me. I travel from Sayreville to Metuchen just to bring my car somewhere that wont rip me off and somewhere I know the proper job has been done.

Ed was a nice guy who knew what he was doing and took the time to explain what he'd done and why. The price was good for the job and completed on time. I'd use him again

Very disappointing. Made an apppointment for repair a week in advance. Dropped the car off the night before. Called late in the day of the appointment to check the status of the repair, only to be told the work hadn't been done, and I was scheduled for the following day. Not acceptable, especially when temperatures are 10 to 15 degrees and you and your family depend on your vehicle. Needless to say, I took my car back and took it elsewhere for repair.
