I was always told that the Edison Police Department was racist. I had only gone to Edison a couple times to visit family, so I never thought much about the EPD. One day I went to visit family and stayed at a nearby hotel. That day I checked out of the hotel; I noticed a police car patrolling the parking lot. As I drove out of the hotel parking lot, I looked back and noticed the police officer was following me. He followed me for 8 minutes and he pulled me over when I tried to pull into Walmart parking lot. I tried to pull in Walmart because at that point my boyfriend and I feared for our lives. We are professional Black people, on a weekend holiday, dressed in tracksuits, driving a red luxury sport car with New York license plates. I am quite sure Officer Thomas Stout thought in his racist mind, "Black people, luxury car, New York plates, they must be drug dealers". Little did he know this "stop" would cause him to be investigated for racial profiling. The investigation went on for over a year. I feel The Edison Police Department was very incompetent on how they managed the case, and they ended up covering up for him. Even though the EPD cannot explain why Officer Thomas Stout followed me for 8 minutes and why the ticket he gave me was different from what he said he stopped me for on his bodycam.
I would love to know if any other Black person, or person of color, had a run in with Officer Thomas Stout; especially if you were driving in a car.
I urge Black people and people of color to be careful of Officer Thomas Stout and other Officers like him. If you notice that you are being followed by an Officer call 911 and let them know that you are being followed and you are going to pull over, but you want 911 on the call for your safely. And if you can record the encounter between you and the Officer, record the stop.
Not the brightest on the constitutional rights ,just watch a video pretty embarrassing get the officers educated on that first amendment please it’s not that hard ,stop enforcing feelings and stop with tyrant behavior do better
Racist! Officer Thomas Stout racially profiles black people driving luxury cars. He will follow you for miles until he stops you. He followed me for 8 minutes until he stopped me, and he lied about why he stopped me. The Edison Police Department covered it up when I filed my complaint against Officer Stout. If you are ever stopped by Officer Thomas Stout, record the stop, request a supervisor, and if you notice that you are being followed by an officer, call 911 and tell them you have a cop following you and you fear for your life. Pull over at a safe location and start recording if you need to.
Peace yall. 7/15, tues.Stuck on Rte 1 with a flat. My jack broke,now I called AAA. While calling,Officer Coppola(sorry if I misspelled) drove behind me,asking if I needed help.
Yes I did. He tried the jack but to no avail. Got response from AAA, 30 minutes to arrive. Officer C said he stay until AAA arrived. For safety,as Rte 1 on shoulder can be dangerous, yessiree. Amen to Officer Coppola, and Oscar from AAA. God Bless you and all who helped.

Hi had asked an officer how he was doing leaving a car meet that got shut down in the area, simple courtesy, when he began to follow me and pull me over. I don’t drive anything special, just an suv for reference. He proceeds to show me nothing but pure disrespect, saying that I was being a dumb kid and sarcastic. Yes… he pulled me over because I asked him how he was doing. Then, he proceeds to say that he isn’t gonna right me any tickets for my light tints, missing front plate, and my “obstructed” rear plate with no cover, just a little bit of the yellow peeling. The officers proceed to then interrogate me, asking me where the backup spot is although I have no clue. I tell them this, mentioning that I’m just a spectator and they keep saying that I’m lying, they won’t let me go. Then, I ask a simple question regarding their corrupt authority in this situation, and that’s when the officer does not even even answer my question but asks for my stuff back and goes and rights me my tickets, which he only did for the rear plate which was clearly visible. Sad to see the people who are here to protect and serve come after people for saying what’s up to them.
Was unfortunate to have to deal with this police department. Officer Michael Simkovich was unprofessional and rude. Had an accident at a stop light where lady hit me from behind and he proceeded to not let me speak and tell me to be on my way while holding my neck in pain although he did ask for medical attention he never took into consideration that my statement should be taken for the report given the fact that I was the one hurt while he stood behind to attend to the woman who hit me and He did not ask for my statement and took the lady’s word saying “ she didn’t hit me” when she clearly did. I proceeded to come a couple days after to pick up the report and it stated that “ she didn’t hit me” so now I have a crack on my bumper due to this false statement. I stood two hours at the police station to have the report changed and no one attended me I was told that the officer SimKovich would reach out and never did.

Lady was so rude when I tried to follow up all I said was “hello I wanted to follow up about something from last night” she said “I don’t have any information since I wasn’t here” in a very rude tone and once I commented on it she hung up. EPD get your stuff together!

Disappointing Behavior from Edison Police
I am extremely disappointed with the Edison police department. Their actions at a recent town hall meeting were cowardly and criminal. It’s unacceptable to remove a citizen simply for displaying the flag or the Constitution. While I typically support law enforcement, the Edison police’s compliance with unlawful requests from elected officials is appalling. Such behavior undermines our rights and goes against everything they are supposed to uphold. It’s shameful that they would prioritize the whims of a mayor or council member over the rights of the citizens they are meant to protect. Pathetic!
How dare your officers go against the oath to the constitution, and remove a lawyer for waving an American flag at the town meeting. Shame on your entire department for even siding with the counsel. If you can't honor the oath you took to be a cop then find another job. We are America not Policy enforcement. If a law in not about to be, has been, or currently being broken, then you are not needed. This is what's wrong with police. Your job is to enforce law, not Policy.
Absolute cowardice and rebellion against America for removing a man for holding up the constitution. I am so ashamed to hear this. You should resign all of you for allowing this catastrophe to happen. You’re here to protect and serve not enforce communism
To the cops that showed up tonight, to help save a woman that was being repeatedly beaten and followed, on Highway 27 ( in between the McDonald's & TD Bank ), THANK YOU. You were quick, professional, and efficient. You caught the guy, de-escalated the situation, and offered medical attention to the injured woman. You saved her life. Great job!
Some cops are real lazy to do their job even though it can take 5 mins,I was a victim of a crash, I called 911 and Cop told me he cannot find who is at fault he wrote it in the report too,I asked them to check the camera footage ,even thoguh its their .he said they are not working,they are jsut for show. too lazy to work I guess.
I have lived in Edison 30 out of 37 years of my life. The department has changed throughout those years. I have been on both sides, growing up, young and not looking at the big picture and future at times. I still do not have a negative experience with the department. Actually extremely positive experiences though. They helped save my life in 2000, I was hit by a car on Oaktree Rd as a pedestrian. The lengths they went to for me, my parents and family was rare. I don't know of too many departments that would do what EPD did. Remember they are people too, doing a extremely difficult and job expectations that change daily. The department has made great progress. Thank you Edison Police and all first responders.
Horrible police department. They are racially biased and violate people legal rights.
This police department and town have traumatized me with the biased attack I experienced. The police took the side of the aggressor, clearly because of his skin color. I am about a 5'2 woman who was falsely arrested terroristic threats against a white man who is more than twice my size who was behaving erratically while I was worked on an amazon route. This man happen to have a criminal records as well.. I hate this town with a passion

Beware - if DETECTIVE SINGH (466) is assigned your case, you may expect these things to happen:
1. NO follow up contact from him
2. NO ability to leave voice messages
3. NO proof that he cares (ask him)
4. NO positive demeanor at all
5. NO PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY
Examples include:
- He does not answer his personal cell and his vm box is full for the weeks
- He does not keep his word, you have to track him down and keep calling him (he told me to wait for his call, weeks go by, no call from him)
- He contradicts what his Lieutenant said- and this is where I lose my faith in Edison PD as a whole:
WE WANT YOU TO PROTECT US AND DO YOUR JOB! We don’t need lip service. I would feel so much safer, better and even accept any outcome for my situation if there was any GENUINE DETECTIVE WORK performed. I feel like Mr Singh does not deserve his badge if my experience is how he treats the public and conducts his job in general.
Innocent people and victims of unprovoked bias assault should not need to make multiple visits, make numerous unanswered phone calls and stay quiet when something is wrong.
I WOULD GLADLY REVISIT THIS REVIEW IF THE EDISON PD REVISITS THE ROLE OF DETECTIVE SINGH IN THIS MATTER AND EXPLAIN WHY THEY HAVE NOT ENGAGED NORDSTROMS TO VIEW THEIR SECURITY FOOTAGE. Any reason that you can give should be a valid, legal one. The excuse cannot be because Mr. Singh simply chose not to, because as he said, “I don’t have to do it.” Where is the legal explanation to support this lack of detective work?
The fact that 4 weeks have gone by and Detective Singh has not contacted me, the other person or their employer is a sad example to reflect on Edison, Edison PD and the moral integrity of Detective Singh - who in my opinion is not ready for his new job yet.
First of all, to remind you all that works at this precinct, specifically the guy that works at the front, there is no waiting period to report a missing person, time is of the essence, whether it's an adult or a child, every life matters, so the fact that I had to wait a while to file a missing person's report because it's only been a day(two days now) is proof that you are NOT doing your job..
Your behavior toward Jersey Watcher is not just despicable, but it's down right criminal. If the justice system fails him in holding each of you accountable, then I hope the streets serve you the justice you deserve.
Officer Lisa Cummino 382 is always so kind and helpful. I really appreciate how she handles situations, extremely professional. I wish there were more officers like her. She definitely goes above and beyond.

Mixed feelings. A lot of my dealings with the EPD have been frustrating, even to the point of being accused of lying about being a victim of crime. There are definitely some wonderful police on the force, like the ones who pulled up in a parking lot I was crying in and gave me tissues and water. They sat and listened to me cry for a while and genuinely cared, and this meant a lot to me. This experience meant a lot to me. Otherwise, I haven’t had great experiences. I respect the fact that being an officer is dangerous and incredibly difficult, but there needs to be much more care when choosing who gets to have this authority.
Been calling for months for a Agent named Tim Anderson to come and deal with an issue of people parking directly accross from my driveway which prevents us to pull out from the driveway which is why theres a post to show where they cannot park yet everyday someone parks there blocking us and the police never comes to even put a sign. Which when I call the same lie is told to me
When I walked out from my apartment in a private complex, I saw a fast car passed and parked next to another car. I approached the cars. These 2 cars were full of teenagers. I asked them if they live here. They said NO. I told them they were driving fast in the complex. They said they didn’t drive fast. I said if you dont live here you are not allowed to park in this private property.
They said they always come here and do the same thing. They are running around and passing the railway. There is something suspicious going on here but I preferred to leave this issue to the police forces, who represent the law of NJ.
I called the Edison Police Department and explained what just happened. The police officer on the phone was saying how I know the kids dont live in my apartment complex. I said they told me. The officers says they might have lied to me(!)
I also reminded the officer they were speeding in the complex and other suspicious activities. He said he can not do anything about that and I have to file a lawsuit(!)
So I got my lesson and I will never call the police department regarding the suspicious people or the activities in the neighborhood.
Anyone that raves about The EPD must be on medication. They are the rudest, nastiest most corrupt department in the state. Do not call them for anything because they are lazy. They have been notified numerous times about the drug problem in Edison and are too damn lazy or just do not care. Well the people that are buying the drugs and dying are Caucasian. Still no response!
I was caught in Inman Avenue shopping complex for not yielding to a pedestrian with a dog. I was driving within the speed limit and clearly, I did see the pedestrian few feet away from the pedestrian walkway. When I tried to say it in a polite manner, I was given a ticket. Also, I was given a ticket for a paper, a small Ganesha idol and my EZ pass lying on the dashboard along with 2 car scents dangling from the mirror. Apparently, this would obstruct my view. I have been having these in my car for many years like I am sure many others will have .
I have been living in and around Edison for more than 10 years and this is the first time I experience this attitude from the police. I did get tickets many years back, in the past for valid reasons. I have been a safe driver and quite respectful to pedestrians but this incident has for sure left me in shock. Apparently, the law is rigid now for personal safety and the safety of the pedestrians. This makes me think how safe am I here when the police at Edison behave in this manner. I may be wrong for various negative assumptions going on in my mind but I sure am not guilty, for been given two tickets.
I met two of your finest officers here in Dallas supporting our officers and city while we mourn the loss of our four Dallas Police Officers and one Dallas Area Rapid Transit Officer. We appreciate your presence. God bless your department!
