These people are greaat, First. I called them about a problem I was having and hey solved it for me over the phone. I then took a chain saw and backpack blower for repairs/ Neither was running. They called with an estimate, then made the repairs. They were fast, freindly and very reasonable with the pricing.
MJ helped me with my chainsaw & sharpened the blade. Very professional, kind & knowledgeable. Highly recommend especially to women learning “how to life” who never had to do the guy things around the house.

After several disappointments with another shop, I dropped my John Deere push mower off on a Friday morning. It had been “fixed”twice last summer by my “go to” shop, only to break down again soon after the repairs. Rather than return a third time to be told I should just buy a new mower, I ventured to Califon NJ. In 24 hours I have my favorite lawn mower back, good as new. I understand from Mike that a one day turnaround is not typical, and certainly not for a riding mower, but if you value your time, I highly recommend the Professionals at MJ Lawn Mower & Small Engine Repair. Five Stars!
I’ve used MJ’s on and off over the years and have always been happy with the service. However, one area for improvement would be better communication about repair costs. There have been instances where the cost of repairs nearly matched the value of the equipment, and I would have appreciated being informed of this before the repairs were completed as I might choose to replace it instead.
Stay away from MJ'S. My daughter purchased a John Deere tractor from them, and it has been nothing but problems. They refused to stand by their products and repair the problems. MJ'S used to be the best, not any longer.
Mike and his Dad did a wonderful job on my old 2011 Craftsman lawnmower with a Briggs and Stratton 6.75 HP Gold Series engine. The carburetor choke spring came off and my lawnmower would sputter and no longer run. I took it to MJ's to fix and while it was there, I asked them to perform a full service tune-up which included changing the oil, changing the air filter, changing the spark plug, sharpening my blade, cleaning the underside of my lawnmower and they also cleaned up the outside of the lawnmower to the point that I almost didn't recognize my own lawnmower! It looked almost brand new and runs great! I highly recommend Mike and MJ's!
I purchased a Toro 30' Timesaver mower from a shop on Rt. 46. Needed repair and they never bothered to call me back. I went in to discuss the problem. the place was packed and no one was wearing a mask (during recent Covid pandemic). I just left googled small engine repair and found MJ's. Brought it in to MJ"s for the repair and a tune up. They were professional personal and Very reasonably priced. both times I have been in, the bill was much less than I'd expected. They gave me a thorough description of the problem, parts list and hour service charge. It's a small local shop, the way repairs used to be done!
Mike runs a first-class business. He’s skilled in his craft, prices his services very reasonably, and goes out of his way to please his customers. He’s repaired several of my machines and I’ve also purchased reconditioned equipment from him. He delivered my repaired snowblower to me on a Sunday in the middle of a snowstorm so that I didn’t have to shovel. It’s tough to find this level of customer service anywhere.
Knowledgeable, very efficient mechanics. Friendly, courteous service. If this place was a restaurant it would be standing room only. They are busy all year long. Which is a testament to the quality of their work. They're open on Sundays, and have evening hours. I highly recommend this service.
AMAZING service! I Highly recommend MJS for any small engine repair. You don't get service like this anywhere. Purchased a beautiful lawnmower and Mike went out of his way to deliver the mower in the rain. I've found my new small engine repair shop. Very pleased!
You just don't see great businesses like this one anymore. I usually don't take time out of my work day to write reviews, but in this case I have to make an exception. I bought my first riding mower from MJ's a couple months ago and have nothing but great things to say about them. Everyone there is super friendly and knowledgeable. Not only did they help me find the right mower for my property, but they delivered it and taught me how to use it for free. On top of that, on two separate occasions, they came out to service it when I called with a problem. The first time, they had to replace a fuse. The second time, they took it back to their shop and replaced the front wheels. Both times they helped me out without asking for anything in return. If any place deserves more business, it's MJ's. And if you need a mower, or need repairs, do yourself a favor and check them out =)
MJ's has always had a solid reputation. I recently brought in my old Toro riding mower to see if it was worth fixing. Did it take some time? Yes, it did because they stamp their name all over it. They made sure EVERYTHING was working well and to be honest, it’s never run so well in all the years I’ve had it. These guys are the best.
These guys definitely know their stuff... I started using them for my pressure washer last year and will never take any small engine anywhere else.
It's not a guessing game at your expense, they tackle the problem and actually fix it! I was under the impression I needed to buy all new equipment until I walked into this shop!
