What clients say about Wallis Sands State Park in New Rye (NH)

Waly’s Sands State Park is a small but genuinely enjoyable beach spot along Ocean Boulevard. Even though most of the bay is taken up by Pirate’s Cove, Waly’s still gives you a clean, open stretch of sand roughly the size of two football fields. It’s not a huge beach, but it’s a peaceful one — wide enough to lay out, walk, breathe, and take in the coastline without feeling crowded. One of the biggest benefits here is the parking. Pirate’s Cove only has space for about ten cars, which fills up instantly on almost any nice day. In contrast, Waly’s Sands State Park has roughly 200 parking spots, making it a much more reliable place to pull in, park, and enjoy the ocean without the usual stress of hunting for a place to leave your car. From there, you can easily walk over to Pirate’s Cove if you want more beach to explore. The only real downside happens during off-season: there are no bathrooms available and no trash cans, so you need to plan ahead. That’s definitely inconvenient, but not enough to ruin the experience. One thing visitors should be aware of is that both Waly’s Sands and Pirate’s Cove are dog-friendly year-round. Leashes are required, but unfortunately not every owner follows the rules. Because of that, you’ll sometimes see dogs running around unleashed, leaving messes behind, or even getting aggressive. It’s not the dogs’ fault — it’s the careless owners — but it’s something to keep in mind if you prefer calmer beaches. Overall, though, Waly’s Sands is a lovely place to spend a beach day. It’s close to Portsmouth, so after soaking up the sun you can drive a few minutes into town and grab something to eat. Convenient, scenic, and underrated — I highly recommend it.

Great little beach! Pet friendly. Parking is a little pricey, but right down the road you can park on the street for free.

A nice quiet beach, with plenty of sandy area. Not as crazy as the main beach in Hampton. Facilities are old and tired, but do the job.

One of my favorite beaches to go to. Some seaweed gunk to go through to get to clearer spots in deeper water. I like the 4 outside showers to rinse off excess sand & salt water. I haven't seen these before the last time I was there about 2 or 3 years ago.

Excellent dip in the ocean and walk on the beach . Lots of peeps but parking lot was big .

Beautiful beach that is well maintained. When we visited the water did have a lot of seaweed the experience a little less great but still very nice. We got there at about 6pm water was a great temperature not much of a crowd and free parking after 5pm.

Smaller ocean spot, the parking is super convenient, only $15 for the day unless you have the State Park license plate, then it's free. bathrooms, showers, changing tables for the little ones. Picnic area if you don't wanna eat on the beach. The only downfall is that there are NO trash cans, so please be in note to bring your own bags for your trash.

We visited Rye Harbor Lobster Pound and then traveled up the road to this beach to sit and listen to the waves. It was the evening just before sunset and it was beautiful. Plenty of beach front rentals in the area. The pics are of the delicious food at Rye Harbor Lobster. Would definitely recommend both...

We love this remote beach ! Clean shower house and an on site shop with snacks, beach gear and souvenirs. Gorgeous view of the ocean and a clean beach! Well worth the $15 parking fee.

This sand beach on the New Hampshire shore is a pleasant stop for a day on the water. It provides restrooms, showers, a small store and a modest size parking lot. Lots of picnic tables are provided on a grassy lawn area as well. No dogs on the beach, please.

It's not too crowded. Nice area with the family especially if you have young ones. There are tables and chairs on the grass area that you could use, including parties. There's a 15 dollar payment for parking on the state park which is very close to the grass and beach area which is very convenient if you have to unload alot of things. There's a building with restrooms and showers are outside to wash off sand. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed. If you are there for less than an hour, there's a free parking on the side, pass by the state parking from Hampton.

Clean and beautiful small beach near Portsmouth, NH. It is divided in two parts, public and private. Public part is comparatively smaller and crowded during peak season. When we visited the beach restroom was clean and easily got the parking.

We went off season on a rainy day, but the proximity of the sand and water to the parking area does make it very reasonable to access for those with walking difficulty. The sandy beach area is very level all the way to the water. There's a bath house between the beach area and parking lot that has bathrooms and snack bar it looks like, ( off season so those were closed) there are picnic tables around that building too. My girls enjoyed looking in the tidepools that form inthe rocks along the right side of the beach .

It is open without admission charge after Labor Day. Has porta-potties and running water to wash off sand. This time of year it's the perfect place for a quiet sandy Beach experience.not commercial and the buildings are WW2 vintage, not staffed after Labor Day. views of the isles of shoals.

Beautiful extremely clean Sandy Beach with a gorgeous sunset behind the beach houses!

Cool beach with a relaxed vibe. The structures are a little old and the water is pretty cold but the sun was shining and it was beautiful outside. Parking was a little expensive for us to only be there for about 30 minutes. Reasonably priced if you plan to stay there a while I guess.

Wallis Sands is our favorite NH beach. It's not very big, but you have the bathrooms (with changing rooms and coin-op showers), the concession stand, parking that is close (if you pay the $15), picnic areas, and lifeguards. Also, hose and spigots for rinsing off feet and things before getting in the car and two new outdoor (cold water) showers for a quick rinse. Perfect for families with young kids. Mine are young adults now, but we still love it. And we have the state park plates, so we get in free--what a deal!

Bc of heat it was crowded, kind of small length of shore compared to Hampton. It's bring your own food n drink. They do have cold showers and bathrooms.

I have been visiting since I was a kid. Not a lot has changed. The outside faucet to rinse off, an entrance ramp to the beach and showers are convenient. Parking during the day is expensive. You may be able to find parking either at the one hour parking that overlooks the beach or the parking along RT 1A further away from the beach. Noticed more seaweed than usual. Seagulls patrolling the beach looking for what is "Mine, mine, mine!" I have not eaten at the concession stand so I have no opinion of the food. Beach is rather clean. Rosa Rugosa or Japanese ? Rose grows along the path next to RT 1A. I remember it from when I was a kid. The ? bees and butterflies will hang out there. The cherry ? tomato ? resembling "hips" are supposed to be edible, but, I have never tried one. Update: Sunday morning, August 2021; Ahhh! My book ?, my coffee ☕, my muffin ?, my seagull and my ? chair! I saw ? butterflies and bees. Is there a lesson in that? No ?️ trash cans. Not even inside. I guess it's carry out. Please don't litter ?! Thanks. The flowers along the side trail are nice to walk by. ? Bees won't bother you.

Very nice and clean beach. They have plenty of parking and great views of the New Hampshire Coast. Water is a little cold though, but that’s only to be expected. I’d totally recommend going to this beach.

Beautiful beach. State run. Carry in and bring out your trash!!! 15 dollars to park. Not a big beach but big enough. In the pictures some of them are private beaches .

The picture speaks for it's self, Beautiful. Just beautiful! You can't really go wrong when you go to the ocean. Very affordable, clean up after self, coin-operated showers, life guards on duty. Just really nice. I think the only negative thing I could say is that it can get a bit crowded but what beach, in the prime time of summer, isn't crowded!

Easy in & out of this state park beach. Large parking lot. "Double" beach--smaller with lifeguard, long beach past rock jetty was great for walking/running. Both have classic fine beach sand. None of the changing areas, restroom, snack shack/store were open end of June, so no charge for beach. Lifeguards on duty. Easy on/off beach with ramps and mats for strollers or wheeled carts. Port a potties were full to overflowing ? LOTS of seaweed on beach and in surf. Gulls are aggressive-one bit my finger hard enough it bled and stole half a sandwich wrap. Views out to Isles of Shoals.

This is one of my favorite spots to stop at throughout the year. I stop on the side of the road where there is free short term parking (1 hour). There are benches to sit at to watch the tide roll in or you can walk down the path to the beach. Many people walk or jog in this area to enjoy the gorgeous views. If you want to stay the day during the summer, you can pay for parking in the lot that adjoins the beach. They have restrooms open during the summer months.

Amazing sand beech, quite wide when is tide out. Good for family and party groups. First section (near parking lot) is usually taken by families, but if you go further, you will find space. Restrooms and feet shover are located next to parking. Parking $15 a day.

A lovely quiet, soothing beach off season and during season before and after beach hours. The wonderfully noisy and fun part is during season.

My favorite beach to go to! It doesn't usually get too crowded like it can going to Hampton, it has a nice bathhouse with showers, and a little store you can buy snacks or toys at. I love going to this place!

Sometimes can get overcrowed in the summer, but there is always more space across the jetty, just without lifeguards. The main building contains bathrooms, showers, hoses for your feet, food, and a small shop. After Memorial Day dogs can be allowed on the beach which a great opportunity for your dog to run wild.
