I had a brake pad freeze up on me while traveling from Boston. They bent over backwards to get my parts and repaired in a few hours. The price was very fair. Total professionals! If you live in the Plymouth NH area make this your go to auto repair shop!
Update to the below issue: Took the truck to a competent mechanic and they troubleshot it and provided written assessment as follows: "REAR DIFF SHOWING SIGNS OF FAILURE CAUSING BRAKE WARNGIN AS ABS SENSORS BUILT INTO DIFF. Used stethoscope to verify sounds and cause for abnormal sounds coming from differential rather than the brakes." Pulled rear diff cover and inspected - metal shavings found within DIFF, moving parts intact - DIFF can be rebuilt..." So, instead of feeding customer the fiction of "resetting computer" that Forrest Howe did, they actually did real work and found real problem. Not only did Forrest Howe fail to correctly troubleshoot and correct the problem, they charged me $267 to make the vehicle WORSE. Their so-called "correction" of the tire setting caused my speedometer to read 75mph when going 60mph.
I feel ripped off, because I was. I paid money for a fairy tale from "mechanics" that were either too lazy or too incompetent to do actual mechanical work. AVOID this shop unless you have money to throw away and if you do have that money, send it to your favorite charity...it would have the same impact in "fixing" your vehicle, but at least the world would be a slightly better place.
PREVIOUS: I dropped off my F150 truck for 1) Tire Pressure Monitor Fail and 2) Brake System and Autotrak system check light on. $267 later, they claimed that the computer was set incorrectly. They did not even check the actual tire pressure monitors or the brake system. By the time I drove home, same lights came on, same warnings, same issue, just one day and $267 poorer. Don't go for any troubleshooting, because it will most likely not end in a corrected issue. DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED. AVOID.
Awesome customer service here! Everybody is so friendly and makes you feel like family. I love the "shop dog" too - she's such a sweetheart. Definitely will be back.
What's going on at Forest Howes ? New management? Professionally not what you would expect. A large, unhappy barking dog tied out in the rain - barking, barking, barking - nobody doing a thing about it. Another very large dog walking around inside. This is a new development for this business and it's not a good one.😑
Ive dealt with shitty mechanics in the past and this place gave me hope again. If you ever have issues give them a call. They were amazing and I wont be using anyone else from now on
Great customer service and mechanics! My car was towed to the repair shop when it wouldn't start and I knew it wasn't the battery. They found that their computer could not communicate with my car computer, and the master mechanic conducted a manual diagnostic. My car computer relay wasn't functioning, and he quickly ordered a new one and installed it. I'm going to use them regularly from my car service
Amanda, one of the owners, runs a great business that is focused on helping people. Despite her knowing that I live out of state and is less likely to get any more of my business, she agreed to squeeze me into their busy schedule when I broke down nearby. Been coming here for years, the workmanship seems to be the same, but since the new owners I have noticed the lobbies cleanliness has taken a hit. The lobby smells bad, and I hate to say it, but the women behind the counter seemed to smell as well. I hope to see that this improves

Great experience. My son's 2009 Honda Accord had a hard start issue and they quickly diagnosed and repaired it. Communication was excellent and they described the issue and repair.
I recently started going to Forrest Howes' Auto Repair for our vehicles. Today was my second visit and I am very pleased with the service. Forrest and his staff are very friendly and Forrest really cares about his customers. This repair shop has a new car dealership feel to it but small town atmosphere which I like. I took my car in to get it working again after the AC compressor died. Not long before getting it here, it sounded like a jammed leaf blower and you could tell there was something seriously wrong with it. They immediately knew what it was, what it would take to fix it, and scheduled me. Now this car drives like a dream. Could not recommend more highly!
My son’s car broke down near this repair shop. We live over 100 miles away. We’ve all heard Stories about breaking down in unfamiliar surroundings and how some mechanics will take advantage of the situation to screw you.
That’s not the case here. Forrest Howe’s staff was honest, pleasant and very accommodating. They also have the cleanest facilities I’ve ever seen in a repair shop. It was like walking into a nice hotel lobby.
If I lived in the area, I’d definitely give them my business.
Best mechanics in the area - by far. Forrest is honest and trustworthy and he and the other mechanics are so helpful and explain all options so I know exactly what my car needs and what the cost will be. I’ve been bringing my cars here for years and will never go anywhere else.
Not many times you walk away from a car repair shop feeling good. After receiving multiple quotes on new breaks they were by far the most affordable and just really great about following up and explaining the process. Got us in and out quickly. When we had a questionable sound on the car they brought us back in and tweaked and checked everything free of charge. Picking up the car our other car experienced a flat tire and they immediately fit us in, even at the end of the day, and repaired it within 30 mins, for a great price. Can’t say enough wonderful things.
On hiking getaway weekend and car died. AAA towed to Forrest Howes. He made diagnosing it a priority. He found the part - fuel injection sensor control - locally and repaired and test drove it all within a few hours. Amazing! Shop is clean and service exceptional. I just drove back to Cape Cod and car was perfect.
In early October, we were enjoying the fall colors, but the low tire pressure indicator on our rental car was persistent, even after airing up the tire. Assuming there was something in the tire, and at the recommendation of a friend we were visiting, I called Forrest Howe's. Even though it was a Friday and they were busy, they got us in. What they found was a dangerous tire, with steel belts showing, and air leaking from especially thin spots. We put a new tire on that rental. We were done in less than an hour. I don't believe we've ever encountered nicer people than the folks at Forrest Howe's - all of them that we met. If we lived in that area, we'd be regular customers. They are great.
Forrest and his team provide an exceptional service. They are honest, customer care and safety oriented, and they do high quality work for a competitive price, often much faster and with less hassle than the dealership. If you're new to Plymouth, or are just getting tired of driving to the dealership in Laconia or Concord, switch to Forrest yesterday.
We have been bringing our vehicles to Forrest Howes for several years now. The latest repair was because my wife's Grand Cherokee was having trouble filling up with fuel. James correctly diagnosed the issue, ordered the parts and had it fixed by Noon on the day of our appointment. I also had the transmission serviced while it was there. Great work as always!
Never had a bad moment at Forrest’s the people are friendly and cordial the work they do is fantastic and best part is they’re honest... it’s a great feeling to walk in the door after a year or so and be greeted by name... in this day and age we have become numbers in lots of cases, but at Forrest’s you’re a person and customer and it a very inviting atmosphere. I highly recommend them to anyone who asks..
Though I was not at all an ideal customer because of my own financial situation, they made executive decisions about fixing my car without my approval beforehand, including temporary stickers, etc that then threw off my entire timeline to fix my car. I ended up hitting a deer after it was fixed and I still owed them money, so I brought my car to a different mechanic who took a look at my receipt of what was fixed and pointed out more than 3-4 things that not only were not fixed but were not even needed to fix my previous issues. It's taken me almost 2 years to fully pay Forrest Howes back for services I'm not even sure were fully rendered but the greater toll taken was on my mental health. Will never, ever, ever be going back.
Forest went above and beyond for a tire purchase and alignment for us. First, he was able to take our business the next day after we called. Second he was able to get the tires in stock. Third, a part broke during the alignment and he was able to drive to Nashua on a Friday during rush hour and pick it up. He had our vehicle ready for us that evening. I can't stress enough how fantastic they are!
What service! My son's car broke down in Plymouth, NH, where he goes to school. We had it towed to Forrest Howes' on a Sunday and dropped the keys off in the drop box, as they were closed. First thing Monday I called them. They said they would be able to look at it that same day. They called me back later in the afternoon saying they needed to order a part, which they would likely get in Tuesday, and with luck would have the car done Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest. Well, they called me back Monday (the same day, and after their official closing hours) and said the car was done and ready to be picked up!! Super friendly, good prices, and seem to be all around good people. Will definitely go back if the need comes up!
What a wonderful establishment! Called to get my sons tire repaired that lives up at Plymouth State right now and the gentlemen said to send him over this afternoon. Thought we were going to leave the tire and come back another day to replace it. Instead, when my son got there they told him to wait they fixed it right away. It's hard when your not from the area and your looking for someone to trust. I would highly recommend them.

We had a bad rattle in the exhaust or the front of the car (we didn't know) and we had previously taken the car to the Toyota dealer and they said then did something, but it was not fixed. They said they attached the heat shield better. Anyway, we took it to Forrest and he identified the exhaust rattle and fixed it!
The best part is because we are close enough he picked up the car and returned it when the fix was competed. Thanks for the great work!
