I would NOT recommend this shop. Poor communication, clear incompetence, and neglect. I brought my car in on January 28th for a strong fuel smell. Within minutes I was told the main fuel line was cracked. They knew this was my only transportation. What should have been a straightforward repair turned into TWO WEEKS and FOUR failed attempts. Communication was almost nonexistent unless I reached out. I was later told:
• The first fuel hose “exploded” because the wrong part was installed.
• The second failed because the mechanic did not decompress the other fuel lines. They then tried charging me for THREE fuel line installations — including repairs caused by their own incompetence. The bill was nearly $1,800, including 19.5 hours of diagnostics at $100/hr and 7 hrs of labor After disputing it, I still paid $1,440. When I picked up my car, the drive belt was squealing (not tightened), and the check engine light came on within minutes. They reset it, but the car idled extremely low and continued having issues. I later learned no smoke test was performed, and only the lower intake crush gaskets were replaced — the upper crush gaskets were reused. Crush gaskets are not reusable, and any competent mechanic should know that. Less than 24 hours later, the check engine light returned with code P0457 (EVAP leak). Paul had reset the check engine light before giving me back my car after test drive claiming it was done. I ultimately took the car to Subaru to have it properly repaired. The Subaru technician documented on the official work order that several hoses and clamps were not installed or tightened correctly by this shop. After two weeks without transportation and over $1,500 spent, I had to pay Subaru to correct their incompetence and neglect.
I have documentation supporting everything stated here. Proceed with extreme caution. AG HAS been informed and soon the court's will be too.
I’m not from Dixon I moved here 3 years ago and K & M was the first place my neighbors recommended. They have worked on all of my vehicles and even when things continued to be a challenge Kirsten and all of the staff take care of the problem and fix it…K&M treats you like family, that’s just how one outsider feels.
Went in for a routine oil change. The car had no issues beforehand. After the service, I was told the transmission dipstick was broken and found in the engine bay. The break was very clean with no rust or wear, which is highly unlikely given the age and mileage of the vehicle.
I was pressured to buy the replacement part, which I declined. The employee who returned the part was unprofessional and used inappropriate language. I later sought a second opinion and was told this type of damage would not occur without being caused during service.
Due to this experience, neither I nor my family will be returning.
I took my car to have a head gasket changed. They had it 4 Months and I had to call them to check on it . Poor communication and than after I paid them 2000 it only lasted 6 months. I called them but they said they can't help me after all of that . Won't be going there ever again. Tried to help out a hometown business and this is the thanks I got .
My new car shop. After going to a couple of big chains, I went here for a 2nd and 3rd opinion. Glad I did. These friendly folks saved me hundreds of dollars and were fast and courteous. All my car service needs will be done here now.
Sorely lacking in communication skills. I had to call 3 times over the course of a month & each time I called I was told “sorry, I meant to call you yesterday.”
They charged me for 2 things that weren’t even necessary because it needed a new engine to begin with. They got $1,000.00 out of me for no reason. I wish I had taken it to the dealership at the start. I won’t even bring my car here for an oil change again & I definitely won’t recommend them to anyone.
I'm new to the area, and I really appreciate being able to get car maintenance taken care of close to home! They're very kind and accommodating, and I'd like to give an extra shout out to them for catching a broken clasp thingy on some hose thing and fixing it right up. Definitely recommend.
They got the job done in a timely manner and and they put new valve stems in my tires without me even asking them to, always a good experience doing business at k&m.
Got some awesome tires here. They defy mud and snow.
UPDATE
Over a year later these bad boys are still going strong. Haven’t had any problems whatsoever with them and we live on a horrid gravel road and regularly drive off-road with them.
I brought a car in for a power steering pump replacememt about 4-5 months ago, the steering is loose agian and makes a squeeling sound when you turn. I Also brought the same car in for AC service, less than a month later the AC went out agian. I brought it back in, they fixed it agian, and now it doesnt work agian.
I do all my own work on my vehicles I can because I am very meticulous. When I needed a very advanced scan tool (that costs several thousand dollars) to diagnose some strange behavior of my vehicle it was my preference to drive over an hour one way from my house to bring my vehicle to them and have one their excellent mechanics (Josh) do the diagnostics and even the repair since it was so cheap to have them do it. The best thing is that my original suspect wasn't the culprit of the random issue I was having and Josh put the effort in to truly diagnose the synpsymp instrad of throwing parts at the vehicle. Excellent work! So good yhta I drive nearly an hour one way for them to.do work on my vehicles because they are just as cautios and caring about my vehicles as I am.
Great trust worthy staff. Brought my Blazer in for my safety inspection with out an appointment and they got me in right away both times 1st time gave me a list of items that needed fixing second time just in and out. Great service!
I've used k&m for 2 or 3 years now. They do good, fair priced work. Stand by their work too, I know that for a fact. When you find a good honest mechanic shop you keep going back and this place is just that.
