My wife, her sister, and nine kids were on their way back from Pensacola when my van started overheating and pouring coolant and they made it to a gas station. By the grace of God, this incredible mechanic shop was just three minutes away. It was around 4:40 PM, and they were scheduled to close at 5:00. I called from Arkansas, and the man kindly told me to have them bring it in and he’d take a look.
The water pump had gone out. These amazing mechanics didn’t just look at it—they stayed an hour and a half after closing to fix the van and get them safely back on the road. That kind of service, compassion, and work ethic is rare.

This has to be the best maintenance team in Hattiesburg. Every time I come here with a car problem, there is always someone there ready to help me right away. The best auto shop I’ve ever been to, if I could give 10 stars I would. I Was moving from Florida to Wyoming when I broke down right outside Hattiesburg in the jeep I bought days before. I got the car to the shop towards the end of the day and explained my situation to them and they helped me get back on the road as soon as possible. They had to order parts the next morning so the owner gave me and my dog a ride to a hotel for the night then picked me up in the morning around checkout time when my car was finished And got me back on the road by 11am. Everyone here is amazing and saved me lots of trouble with my car and my timeframe to get to Wyoming for my job. Thank yall so much!!!
Came to Hattiesburg to visit with friends. My ignition switch fell out. But I got it back in.
Then I woke up to gremlins in my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.2 V8 engine. No Air Conditioner (AC), No electric windows, Air Bag light on, No radio. If there is no AC, then you need the windows down.
Call Phillips Car Care Center and talk to Tony, said drop by, and he would pull codes. He plugged it in, cranked it, and everything worked. No codes.
Old school customer service for sure. If I have problems in Hattiesburg, Mississippi Phillips Car Care Center will be my go-to auto repair.
On the plus side even other shops recommend them.
I brought a 1986 Chevy 2 ton dump truck in to be repaired. Joey told me up front that he didn't want to tackle a repair of this magnitude, given the size of the truck, but had compassion on me and agreed to do it. I live 400+ miles away and taking it back home broken was not an easy option. We couldn't find a replacement part, so we pulled the part from the truck, and one of the large auto parts stores shipped it to a manufacturer to be rebuilt. AND LOST IT AT THEIR DISTRIBUTION CENTER. Mr. Joey and I looked for a replacement part for several weeks, as the part store that lost it said they couldn't replace it. After more than 4 months of wrestling with this trial, Joey and his team returned my truck running smooth as silk. Thanks guys..
I had one of my ignition coils go out in my truck, and they were able to fix it very quickly! We also found out that I had a wheel bearing going bad, so while they had my truck we decided to get a new one. There was a little complication with the new wheel bearing, and while they were doing a test drive of my truck it broke, and in the process so did my break caliper and speed sensor. Now I would have been completely ignorant of this fact had they not told me, and they could have charged me for the parts and just claimed they were going bad. But Joey was completely honest about the whole process, and I couldn't be more thankful! Instead of charging for the parts and extra labor, he handled it all, and even aligned my tires just to make sure everything was how it was supposed to be. This whole process took only 3 Days, even with the unexpected complication! They went above and beyond to make sure everything was handled properly. Fantastic service, and even better integrity and honesty! I can't express how grateful I am, and I would recommend them to everyone!
I spent $2,000 with these people back in June on a new rear end ,5 months and only about 1,500 miles later my rear axle comes out from under my truck as I'm going down the road in February. And just about 100 yards from getting on 4 lane Highway 84 I get it towed up there knowing it's their mechanic's fault for leaving the retaining bolt loose that holds the pin in place for this exact incident of axles slipping out not to happen. I go up there and that short man behind counter with his long hair down to his butt pulled Into PONY-TAIL says it was parts failure and out of warranty but they would get me another rearend put in with me paying total cost. I was like Wow so like an idiot I agreed. As I get to the door leaving, the Ponytail Manager says "the pin dropped in rearend, that's what happened". I replied no crap, I'm not an ignorant old lady that doesn't know anything about vehicles. And he comes out from behind desk hollering at me after I get out the door. So I walk back inside to ask what he yelled. And he played dumb, I said just fix it right this time and we'll be Cool. It sat up there from February till I got it towed away from there yesterday May 6th. They hadn't done anything to it for almost 4 months and when I called up there Manager Ponytail would just say I'll call you when it's ready and hang up. I send a tow truck up there with out calling Phillips first, and they didn't call me to confirm with me this is a legit tow and just let the guy have it. So any tow truck guy can just pull up with out notice or confirmation from vehicle owner, and load it up and take it??? Wow, they almost get me killed or put in a wheelchair from leaving a retaining bolt loose in the rearend they installed, treat me like an idiot, holler at me after I get out front door, keep my ride 4 months with no intention of fixing it, then let it be towed from their premises with out even asking me if I sent him. That right there let's me know they have sabatage mechanics and sorry management. Just show these pictures to any mechanic and ask them how this Axle could possibly come completely out doing 35 mph down the road right after the rearend was installed??? Leaving the retaining bolt loose is not "parts failure" that's mechanic neglegence or disregard.

Been knowing Selva and Joey Phillips for years and years. Will not let anyone else work on my 1990 Ford Festiva, but these two. They are the only ones I trust. It feels like family when we're there. Trust me in this. They will fix what ails your auto.

I have had to go to phillips at least 4 times in the last year, and they are always so kind and willing to explain things to me. Being a student away from home, going to get my car looked at alone can be scary because of my lack of knowledge, but they have never made me feel worried or anxious there! They are also a lot more adorable than some other places I’ve been to!
These guys saved me $100 on an engine mount I needed fixed, and called to let me know it was ready to pick up just 4 hours after drop off. They have earned my business, and I would recommended them to anyone in the area!
I stopped in today on my way through Hattiesburg because my engine was running hot. The owner took a quick look at my truck (they were very busy) and suggested we fill it with water instead of antifreeze since it looked like I had a leak and I didn’t have time to get the leak looked at. Most places would automatically charge you to fill it up with antifreeze but he instead filled me up with water and didn’t charge me a dime! Very honest and great people. I would recommend this place to anyone!!!

We took my grandsons old Rodeo to Phillips for repair since every one else said they couldn't do the repair (rear end seal) and not only did he do it quickly but he did it without charging a lot. I highly recommend this guy!

This is your fist and best choice for car repair. Everyone was more than an employee showing up for work. Really interested in helping to get the car back in service for your busy life. Never found them to be too high in cost
Jacob was very kind and professional - the team here fixed my A/C issue that wasn't getting cold in 2 days when Kia Laurel couldn't even find the problem in 3 weeks. They also told me if I bad any fuether issues they would fix it free of charge. Will definitely return if I have any more car problems!
Edit: Did end up returning recently for a separate A/C issue - the shop was good with updates and made sure I rolled out with consistent cold air again. They also were kind enough to drop me off when I didnt have a ride available. Can't thank them enough!
Had my car for over 4 months and I still had to take it somewhere else to be properly repaired. No one stayed in contact with me and would take literally weeks to respond and even then, my concerns weren't even addressed. $4,000 later and a total of 3 times of placing the car in the shop I'm still unable to drive my car. The owner also had no concern or professionalism to provide peace of mind or to ensure that the issue was finally resolved after promising it was.

IDK IF my experience was due to my race, but I did not feel seen heard or appreciated as a customer that was robbed and inconvenienced.
I took my vehicle to Phillips Car Care Center because it was making a noise I couldn’t identify. They told me up front they wouldn’t be able to get to it in the next few days but if I brought it by, they would see if they could identify the sound. After an initial look, they couldn’t be entirely sure of the problem. The young man helping me said he didn’t want me to leave in case something happened with the car. He went and put it on the rack to find out exactly what was going on.
It was the alternator. They offered to replace it right then if I could spare the time. Not only did they fix it - they made me a priority and I am so grateful. These gentleman could not have been nicer. I will be a loyal customer anytime we need maintenance or repairs!!
Dropped my car off at Phillips Car Care center today and was immediately greeted by Joey! After communicating with them on the phone quite a few times in the last week for a future appointment. I had a sudden issue come up and they let me drop my car off immediately. Phillips has made room for me every time I have called while making me feel heard which is hard to come across for a younger girl. The other car repair shops I have used in Hattiesburg I have found that I am talked down to because I don’t know a lot about cars. But not Phillips they have been professional every time. Joey was so personable and friendly I felt I was leaving my car in safe hands. Even if it’s bad news I know that I can trust Phillips Car Care Center!! Highly recommend!

I had major engine repairs done, and upon completion, an issue arose once the vehicle would get hot, where it would shut off when stopped. Joey made it clear that he did not want me to drive the vehicle if I did not feel safe...he offered to send a truck and have it towed (about 40 miles) if need be. After working tirelessly on figuring out the issue, it was fixed with no extra charge. As busy as they were and as aggravating as the issue was to resolve, I was always met with a smile and felt welcome. Throughout the process, Joey would call and check on me to be sure things were working correctly and that I made it back to work safely after the truck was fixed. I highly recommend Phillips Car Care Center in Hattiesburg, MS.
I've never written a google review, but I had to in this case. I was initially very nervous about taking my car to anyone except my usual mechanic back home, due to the fact that I've got 300,000 miles and can't take any chances. But when I say service with a smile, I mean it, and it's excellent service. I came in with an oil leak and they had it fixed in a day for a super fair price. Can't reccomend enough!
The hospitality was suburb. Everyone was wearing a smile and extremely helpful. Went above and beyond to ensure my absolute satisfaction. Compared what the Hyundai dealership said was wrong and showed me that nothing needed to fixed right now and he could fix those issues for lower price. Would highly recommend this auto shop.
