What clients say about Northwest Architectural Salvage in St. Paul Park (MN)

The good: tons of home hardware solutions from old doors, windows, fittings and finishings...and more. The bad: You'll have to know what your looking for specifically and it takes time to dig around to find stuff. The ugly: the store is a mess and mostly disorganized. You can get hurt looking around and there is definitely limited aisle ways space. Not wheelchair accessible.

Has a ton of period specific fixtures and pieces for your old house. I needed some hinges to match my 1923 bungalow and he has what I needed for a reasonable price. You can't match the quality of the old stuff. Just some elbow grease, sandpaper, and steel wool and I have a perfect match for my new door in my old house. Support small businesses!

Spectacular collection of architectural artifacts. When I needed a lock set for my 1926 house - I knee I could find it here. Great place to explore for hidden treasures.

I came in looking for cabinet knobs, pulls and handles. I found all of what I needed simply by talking with the owner. The service was personable and super helpful. He really listened to me. Below is a picture of what I was looking for and needed.

I’ve shopped here since 2000 when we bought our first home. Looking for accent pieces to fit in line with a 1914 home—NWAS has what you might need. Perhaps things you didn’t know you needed. The amount of fixtures, can be overwhelming but I find it SO inspiring! A gem of a place if you want to find a great historic piece.

Love this shop and the eclectic selection of vintage and antique hardware and other fixtures. I found the perfect medicine cabinet for our 1922 home. Very reasonable price too.

This is a once-was-great shop. I know COVID made a lot of places downsize and lose customers, and the construction this summer hasn’t helped out this street of businesses, sadly I think this store has seen its hay day. When speaking with the owner we found him to be straight forward if not suspicious of buyers. I’m guessing he has a lot of lookie-loos, and as a result doesn’t get his hopes up. If you’re looking for something specific he can point you towards it- mostly. A lot of times his answer was “it’s in the place somewhere. I’d have to find it.” And if you’ve been here that makes sense. Everything is piled and thrown in boxes by type of thing, and is in no way displayed for browsing. You’ll have to dig through stuff to find your treasure in this shop. And it is packed wall to wall, floor to ceiling. Think episode of hoarders but with some more organization. Dimly lit so tricky to see things sometimes. If you want to hunt, or you follow the Facebook page you might find what you need. But don’t go to this shop expecting white glove service. It’s a treasure hunt and you’re on your own. Want a price, you’ll have to ask or make an offer. Would recommend as a final look before you go internet shopping, or if you enjoy looking for the gem in the coal mine. They do have a lot of lighting fixtures and trim pieces. If you want easy to browse and cleaned up shiny antique fixtures you will have to visit some competing stores, but you’ll pay a bit more. This is a salvage store, not an antique store so be prepared to hunt and take time, but don’t waste his.

wow. Fiance and I went in to get handles for an armoire that we are restoring.. We drove out of our way to come check it out and I've been looking forward to it. We entered I said hello...twice .hello?, there's noone at the counter then some old codger comes out in stained shirt looking like a cracked version of doc from back to the Future just stares at us with this look.. i said hi...nothing .umm.is it ok We look around. We're looking for some handles We might be wasting his time. Awkwardly trying to make a humor. . But he didn't say a word. Just continued to stare from in between the piles of junk??! I asked. Is that okay? And he said - I'd prefer to spend time on someone who's going to be buying something. What! I thought he was joking but then I said well we would be spending money if we can find the handles... And he just continued to stare down this creepy stare . My fiance and I looked at each other I said yeah okay. Are you even open for business? Your customer service is seriously lacking here. There's other awesome salvage shops in town will go there. Thanks. And he said yeah you should. They probably need money more than I do. I said great. I'll leave a nice review. we left immediately. Ps kick Rock's old man for wasting our time. Go kick the bucket already. You're ruining Minnesota. Nice.

This is a great, neighborhood salvage business. The owner is very friendly, and kind. He has many lighting fixtures, lock sets, and other miscellaneous items. And while he didn't have what I was looking for, he took time to answer my many questions. I strongly recommend you visit this business, where you'll find surprises around every corner

Always helpful and fair pricing. Hard to find hardware, really sad to see the review that fella William left. He has no idea the impact that can have on a person and or it’s business.

Northwest Architectural Salvage refurbished four antique crystal chandelier light fixtures for me. They did a phenomenal job! All the pieces were removed, polished, repaired if needed, two of the lights were rewired. It was a real professional job, with very fair pricing. I couldn't be happier with the results.

I really haven't a clue about the quality of stuff this place. Not lacking in quantity. See photos for better idea of what I'm failing to capture.

There are a lot of old doors to look through if you need and old door. Many old locksets, lights, globes and other items. It is worth a visit if you want to add some old items to your decor or are looking for an old house fixture.

Lots of junk. More if you have old house in disrepair vs looking to furnish with vintage items. Watch for falling items as everything is stacked high. Needs to be cleaned and gone through so you can see what you are buying. Owner is friendly.

Owner is awesome! Very helpful and knowledgeable. Best to call ahead to make sure he's open. The COVID crisis is killing small business like his.

Best if you have a specific thing in mind. Filled to the brim with antique and vintage fixtures. Items prices based on rarity so don't expect a bargain find.

Pretty junky and messy. But if you need random wood, door knobs etc. it could be helpful!
