I initially had high hopes for this mechanic. When my check engine light came on, I brought my vehicle in and was impressed by the owner’s approach. He checked my car over, cleaned under the hood, and reset the light all for free. He explained that he does this as a way to build trust and gain future customers, and I genuinely appreciated the gesture and thanked him profusely. I left that day thinking I had found a new go-to mechanic.
Fast forward to a week later when my check engine light came back on. I scheduled an appointment for today and clearly communicated multiple times that I would be dropping my car off the night before. I rearranged my family’s schedule, moved all three car seats into my husband’s car, and he met me after work to pick me up after the dropoff, all while hauling 4 young children out in the pouring rain.
When I arrived, I discovered there was no secure key dropbox…something I think is a basic and essential service, especially in a town that has had frequent reports of vehicle break-ins. I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my car unlocked with the keys inside overnight. I tried calling the number on the sign with no answer, which didn’t surprise me because it was after hours. Knowing the mechanic and his wife (who runs a cleaning business out of the same building) frequently advertise together locally, I called and texted her, hoping someone could clarify where I should leave the keys. I never got a response back from them until after I had already taken the car and the kids back home.
The next morning, the mechanic called and was immediately rude and confrontational. He seemed upset I had tried to reach his wife and that I didn’t answer my phone the night before. I calmly explained the situation and my safety concerns and that I hadn’t answered my phone because at that point, I was over it and already home. He told me I should have left the keys in their unlocked mailbox, but to me, that didn’t feel any safer than leaving them in an unlocked car. I mentioned that Bird Island has had multiple car break-ins over the last couple of years. Also, there was a car theft right from the Holiday gas station in Hector while the owner was just a few feet away inside. Just because there haven’t been issues in the past at their specific business doesn’t mean it’s not a risk now. It felt like he wasn’t hearing my concerns at all.
He was argumentative and dismissive of my concerns. I told him I wouldn’t argue anymore and that I’d be taking my business elsewhere. I’ve never had another mechanic speak to me the way he did, and I wouldn’t recommend this business to others. A simple key dropbox would’ve solved this entire situation, and instead, I was met with hostility and poor customer service.
One of my Class A drivers was down on the side of the road, having been pulled over by DOT for an inspection. DOT wouldn't let my driver leave with their trailer as the brakes weren't properly aligned. My driver walked over to M&W auto and asked for help and they walked over to the truck with him and properly aligned the brakes and my driver was back on the road again in less than 10 minutes. Class act and good people.
I am from out of town and I got an error message on my vehicle, not knowing what it meant. I checked my manual but I couldn't find anything in there. I had stop at a gas station and they weren't able to help me. But directed me to here. Vince had put it up on the hoist to quick check it out and found the problem. However, it was going to be a couple of more hours before he could work on it. I asked if it was o.k. to drive and he said yes. I appreciated the time that he took to find out what the problem was. I would recommend him to anyone. Was very helpful & friendly.
This place is a joke you make an appointment a week in advance and you show up the day of you appointment on time and they cancel your appointment i will no longer be going here and I won't recommend this place to any body if you have an appointment and your not going to be able to do the service you would think a call before you get there would be a good idea but no not even a call I got there and they couldn't do it what a joke you lost my business its your loss .
My Son was told at another service/dealership his transmission was going out and they would have to repair it. I brought my truck to M&W and they found out it was his spark plugs. While there, they fixed up a few other items and his 2006 Ford truck is running like new. M&W staff are hardworking, skilled, and trustworthy! I would highly recommend bringing your vehicle to their crew! Great shop in a small town! Thank you!!
I brought my vehicle in for service this morning. I had heard good things about this shop and they did not disappoint. They were GREAT! The work was done quickly and done very well and they stayed well within the quoted price, so there were no surprises. Everyone at this shop is very friendly, knowledgeable and personable. I am extremely satisfied and would highly recommend this shop for anyone’s auto repair needs. I know this will be where I go in the future when my vehicle needs work. Amazing experience!! This is a renowned auto shop. People drive from 2 hours away to this little town where you can fart on one side and hear it on the other, to get their vehicles serviced.
Took my Cadillac for some trusting sound advice. My opinion great service, asked questions about issues going on with my ride. Had their input, got set an appointment and was very satisfied with my first visit.
The best auto repair shop in West Central Minnesota. The knowledgeable mechanics that are employed by M&W will diagnose and fix the problem honestly and at a reasonable price. The only problem with being the best is. of course everyone wants to bring their vehicles to this shop, making them very busy, but they some how manage to still offer fast service while maintaining high quality standards.
I highly recommend M&W Auto clinic. About a year ago my car broke down just outside of Bird Island. The nice lady at the broasted chicken restraunt highly recommended this place. I took my car there. They looked it over and informed me it would cost more to fix then it was worth. We chose not to fix it. He offered to buy it and use for parts. I signed the title over to him. 2 days ago I received a letter from a towing company in St. Cloud stating they towed my abandoned car from a church parking lot and I owed them for towing and storage fees. It would have been at least $600. I was worried because I had no proof that I sold it to M&W I called them and talked to the owner Joe. He remembered the car and that I had signed the title over to them. I told him about the letter. He reassured me he would take care of it. He called back shortly and informed me he talked to the towing company and took care of it. They are going to crush it today and send me a certified letter that it was destroyed. He also called the scrap company-they hung up on him! Obviously they didnt turn in the title OR scrap the car. Joe was very professional and friendly with every encounter. If I lived closer I would definitely
