This place is MY go-to whenever I need regular maintenance or whether things mysteriously stop working. They treat me with respect and intelligence (which can be difficult to find as a woman who doesn't know about cars). They're trustworthy and never push to do work I don't need.
I've only ever used their service department, but because they are so excellent, whenever I do decide to sell my old car or buy a new one, I'll be coming here.
Great purchase experience with Mike and Sam. We test drove a car at 8am and were able to stop back in later in the day to pick it up. Present, Fast, and Friendly is a rare and unbeatable combination!!!!

Honest, ethical, and amazing. Took great care of us on an oil change and service for our SUV. They could have sold me new brakes but didn’t. A quick fix on their end saved me $750. Highly recommend.
Recently bought a car from Sam Tillema and I could not be more happy! Sam was very patient with me as I was very selective and picky in what I wanted. Left empty handed several times (my own fault for being too picky) but Sam’s amazing personality, charisma and charm kept me coming back. Ended up with a very nice 2016 sedan that had even more features than I realized. Incredibly happy with my purchase. Absolutely amazing experience from the whole Tillema family, from Mike, Pam, Mav and the whole team. My heart goes out to them. Ive been taking my vehicles to Tillema Auto for years. Always appreciate their friendly, knowledgable and thorough service. Recently I had a bad battery changed out for a new one. I then received a call a day or 2 after to make me aware that the battery was under a warranty and they would be sending me a full refund check for the warranty amount! They didn't need to go the extra mile to do this.I would have never been aware otherwise. Really appreciate the honest business practices
DO NOT BUY HERE! (TLDR: Drove 3 hours out of my way with a breaking car and purchased my 2011 Toyota Highlander for several thousand dollars over fair market price (paid 16000 when KBB values at 10-13) with the expectation that a family business with such good reviews would thoroughly check a car and treat me better, Instead I got a moldy car and with over 6k in repairs within the first month of owning it, and when I called a few days later to ask about problems that a mechanic found within 15 minutes I was told there was pretty much nothing he could do to help or reimburse me for my repairs and a whole lot of excuses for how they failed as a dealer.) A week ago, I assisted my grand daughter in purchasing her first car. She had a specific make/model in mind, and via Carfax.com, had located dealerships that had a vehicle that matched her criteria. We visited dealerships in order of their proximity to our starting point. The first three dealerships were all very disappointing. Those dealerships had inferior vehicles, or required so-o-o much personal data before even showing you the desired vehicle. You can't imagine how refreshing it was when we next discovered Tillema Auto, and was so warmly greeted, and taken care of by Sam. We told him which vehicle we were seeking and without hesitation, he immediately obtained the keys, as he was certain that we would want to take it for a drive. He was also very confident that the vehicles on their lot would meet with our satisfaction, due to the inspection and reconditioning they do, prior to putting a car on the lot to sell. He proudly stands behind the products that he sells, and prices them fairly. Even though it was mid afternoon, we were able to complete the purchase the same day, and my grand daughter drove it home, with the biggest smile ever, all thanks to Sam and the folks at Tillema Auto. If you are looking at purchasing a new to you vehicle, make Tillema's your first stop, you will be glad that you did!
I started going here when I moved to the area recently. The desk is always so helpful and honest. They also get your car done in a timely manner and do a good job. They went out of their way to help me recently with my car, I appreciate all the staff here!
We’ve used Tillema’s for years and have always been happy with their work! They are friendly, honest, good communicators, and schedule in a timely manner. Over the last decade we’ve taken 4 different vehicles to them for oil changes and repairs. But today’s thoughtfulness was the kick-in-the-butt to leave a review.
I was there for a standard oil change and a storm rolled in. When they were finished, the tech left my vehicle under an awning so I wouldn’t have to go out in the heavy rain. This unexpected gesture and attention to detail was next-level customer service in my opinion and deserves to be spotlighted!
Wonderful people to work with, made the purchase process easy. When a maintenance issue arose shortly after we finalized our used vehicle purchase, they took care of it for us without hesitating, which was a great feeling.
I tested a vehicle and was very appreciative of Sam as he gave me the time I needed and answered any questions I had. He was informative and in no way pushy. It may not have been the vehicle for me but I will be back due to it being a very positive experience.

Previously I had amazing things to say about this Auto shop. I even referred three of my friends there for work on their vehicles, unfortunately whoever they have working at the front desk is very condescending and rude.
I would highly recommend that when you are making appointments you let the person know how much that service costs, such as diagnostics or oil change. To assume that someone would know that you are diagnostic cost is $160 is exactly what they say about assuming. (If you know the saying). (Especially when the person already knew what was wrong with their car) "what did you expect" is crazy to say to someone asking why it costs so much. (When someone calls to make an appointment, please make them aware of the cost)
Otherwise I received outstanding work previously in April 2024. They have a great new building and their mechanics are good.
That being said I will never return back to Tillema Auto if that gentleman is still working there.

Ultimately there is a miscommunication that could have been avoided. And I do appreciate someone reaching out to explain and fix situation. I will continue to recommend people to go to this Auto shop! Family and treating people right is what really matters, wish this business the best!
Our family has been bringing our cars to Tillema Auto for the past 17 years for service maintenance. The first time we took one of our autos in, we were convinced the repair needed was worse than it was. Tillema certainly could have made the repair we thought was needed and we wouldn't have been none the wiser. However, they informed us that the repair was not as serious as we believed and took care of the issue in a quick and effective manner. Their integrity and doing the right thing for the customer has always been one of their staples. We highly recommend that if your vehicle needs service, give Tillema a call. They will treat you right.
So, I did a little research, took a chance, and couldn’t have been better pleased with myself and Sam Tillema & Mrs Tillema! I bumped into excellent customer service, warm dialogue, and honest fair pricing on a vehicle I’m pretty sure will get my family safely where we have to be. Happy I made the drive!
These guys did the job on my passenger side bolts to my wheel. The price was perfect, it literally cost what i would have expected based on the per hour cost of labor and the parts. This is a great place to work with. Talking on the phone is a little choppy because the shop is loud but i will be going to them for anything we cant do at home!
I love this place. they are truly honest and fair mechanics! they offer great value by refusing to use aftermarket parts they know won't last. I have traveled from Traverse City to use them. The inexpensive rental cars they have are a real life saver. I cant recommend them more strongly!
Tillema Auto does great work at a good price. They are very honest, when I had to get my car fixed, I agreed to have it fixed for roughly $850, when they looked further at my car they realized they didn't need to fix some things that I had agreed to fix, they charged me $350 instead. This is a very honest company and you know you are getting the best price when you do business with them.
Tillema is one if those shops where everyone in my family go to. Highly reliable, trustworthy, and knowledgeable in their craft.
They can be in the high-end cost wise depending on the type of work you need done. When I got my engine fully replaced, went with these guys due to my past history with them rather than another place that quoted cheaper. Also know that I am in good hands with them and my car.
Highly recommend them for any car fix. Appreciate that they have loaner cars in case your car is in the shop for a few days and you need to get to and from work.
Excellent work, friendly service, reasonable prices! I am a first time customer to Tillema Auto Service and was extremely impressed all around. The shop's service manager, Brian, was very helpful and able to get my son's car in right away for a repair. The repair was completed very fast and at a very reasonable price. I couldn't ask for anything more. I started as a first time customer and will be a regular customer going forward!
