We love this spot, it's the prefect spot to stop and stretch your legs, get your toes wet and find some awesome keepsake stones! One of our favorites on a weekend drive.
We visited over the Labor Day weekend as a short stop so we could see Lake Michigan after visiting family.
It was quiet and peaceful with only a few people there. There is a fence with life-saving equipment on it, if anybody needs rescue in that cold, cold water, and a porta potty up at the top. So the bare necessities are available.
The stairs to get down to the beach are necessary, for it is not an easily accessible beach if you have trouble with stairs. No ramps.
There is an interesting display at the top about the different kinds of rocks found along the lake.

We loved this spot but overall the location took some hits on the rating due to limited parking and decent rock houndibg, but still a good spot.
Parking-
There's only about 6-8 spaces, so get there early am if you really want to go to this location. We got lucky as someone was leaving as we pulled up to the parking area around 1pm on a Saturday in early October 2025.

I believe 20 Stairs to go from parking area to the beach. Same amount of stairs back to parking area from beach.
Rocks -
Lightening stones are here. We also found small fossils, but overall we were disappointed that the rocks at this beach are very small and the total rock area of the beach was also small. You can find some spots with decent rocks, just look very closely while hounding.
Beach-
Great beach, beautiful sand and decent rock hounding await. The water is about 3-4' deep 20 yards into the water, so lots of play area for kids. After 20 yards into the water, it starts to get deep quicker than 1st 20 yards. Also, there is a tunnel that carries a stream/creek through the beach and out to Lake Michigan, quite a few kids playing in it and they looked to have a good time.
If you can go, you should!! Thank you for this wonderful spot along our beautiful Michigan side of Lake Michigan. Ultimately, we spent most of the day here and would absolutely go back. I hope this inspires others to get out and start exploring and supporting our treasured natural environments.
A beautiful beach with some amazing rocks and access to the Lakeshore. There are only a few parking spots right next to the access but there is room to park on a nice shady dead end road a short walk away. I love that there were stairs to get to the beach. Very much appreciated and well done !
Love this park! Just be cautious of private property owners on the beach but other than that it’s a nice little spot. Not much room for parking though. They recently remodeled! Looks so nice now. Still has 10 parking spots only
Cons: It was difficult to find parking. The water was full of seaweed and it was very difficult to walk through the water because of the rocks. Pros: The steps down to the water were nice and wide and sturdy. The creek draining into the lake made for a lot of fun finding rocks and the kids had fun making little dams and waterways. We didn't find anything amazing for rocks but it was still a lot of fun looking.
There is not a lot of parking, but you can park down the dirt road and walk not far. There are lots of rocks for the rock hounds and a beautiful beach. Will be coming back again.
One of my most favorite beaches in West Michigan! Definitely in the top 10. It’s clean, the water tends to be clearer & bluer than in the Holland area. For me it’s always been a great spot for rock hunting. I’ve found lightning stones (mudstones), beach glass, petoskeys and varies different fossils with calcite inclusions. (Horncoral/Croniods). Has a pretty creek going out into Lake Michigan. Just keep in mind the parking lot is very small and this beach has gained popularity in past few years, so it’s hard to get a parking spot.

Pros:

- has a creek
- not as busy as other beaches
- clearer & bluer water than other beaches

Rock hound Heaven!
This particular spot was closed when I got there ( they're rebuilding the steps down to the beach ) BUT I drove just a bit farther down to the park that has beach access. Alot of steps but Oh So Worth It! Had to control myself because I knew those stairs were going to whoop my butt climbing back up! LOL ?
1st time there and Will be returning.

An adorable little beach that is fantastic for sitting and viewing the lake and sunsets. The shore is peppered with washed stones, for those that like to collect them. Parking is greatly limited, and fills up frequently. Heed caution if illegally parking, signs are clearly posted.
Found this park via a Google maps search when looking for a beach with a little more excitement than solely sand. We love to rock, beach glass, and treasure hunt, and this beach was absolutely perfect for that. Today, the sky was cloudy, and the water was so calm that you could hardly tell where the sky and water met.? The water was also shallow enough for my toddler to swim (with her life jacket on). We would have stayed here forever if we didn't have to drive home.
This is the first trip to Pier Cove Beach in which I actually snagged a coveted parking spot. It only has 10 spots available. You can park about a mile south in the next available park.
Keep in mind the public beach is only 66 feet wide, with private beaches on either side. Luckily, the water was low and the beach was a decent length.
I was so excited to see so much variety in rocks. I found beach glass ???, lightning stones, granite, agate and see so much more. Definitely go if you collect rocks and beach glass.
I absolutely love this place. Not too many parking spaces (like 8 on the side of the road) and it does have a porta potty. Cute little beach with AMAZING rocks. Definitely a rock spot ❤️happy hunting
My daughter and I went here looking for beach glass and cool rocks. It is really nice but my only complaint is parking. We got the last spot. Will definitely be back.
Pier Cove is one of the most beautiful beaches in Michigan. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous. My family goes here every year. We love to collect the rocks and over the years we have gathered quite a lot of them that line my porch.
This is the most amazing place......by far my favorite place in the whole world.
If you like rocks and minerals , you will never want to leave!!!!!! It is well known for being a rockhounds paradise. Gemstones are just lying on the beach. For real! Dont take my word for it. ....go see for yo sweet self!
One of my favorite little beaches in Michigan. Definitely love coming here to do some rock hounding. Not many parking spots, and no lifeguard, but such a great spot.
Great beach, small parking lots but more parking about a mile down the road. Rock hunting is hit or miss at this location depending on the waves and weather.
Nice small beach access. Very small parking lot (West Side park is down the road if this is too busy) stairs to the beach. Good for rock hunters. Little rock garden also. I had to leave one ?
Very tiny public beach just off the highway. 10 parking spaces available, the beach is only 66ft long for public access. Currently a dead fish is staaaankin up the area, but overall I give it a thumbs up, yo.
Stopped by this weekend lower water levels give you access to a wide pebbly beach and picturesque driftwood. A nice place to walk and collect rocks. Wear shoes but know they will get wet.
Neat little park with access to the beach. Fun place to stop if you need a travel break from 196. It was once a village almost 200 years ago. The water is gorgeous.
Nice spot to stop and see Lake Michigan. There was limited parking, but we found a spot. The beach is also very small, but you can walk a ways. Over pretty area to stop.
Nice little (very little) public beach. Rocky shore line about 66 ft long, with a deck, and a couple benches. Short walk from the road, where you have limited parking. But of course, as you can see, some people can't read signs, and just park wherever.
I almost hate to share how fabulous Pier Cove is because as soon as people discover it, it will get overrun with humans. I visited from SC in November. It was cold, windy, secluded to the point of deserted, but the view was magical.
