Attended this camp back in the early 2000s. Cliques, gossiping, friendships were made and broken. Too much romanticized tension between the boys across the lake at Burgess with the girls at Hayward - could have done without that, including the co-ed dance. Best part of having gone to Hayward was the high ropes course and the coconut song. Also, was NOT fond of the HUGE spiders at the rest rooms or our French camp counselor Izzy, who would not let us shower when necessary, but only when she deemed that you were soiled enough. ??
Granddaughter had a great experience. Loved the water activities, was thoroughly engaged in her fa experience. Making bread and jam was a treat she didn't expect. Had nothing but positive things to say about her counselors. As her first overnight experience it was a great one. Thank you!
My child has done Adventure Camps for 2 years, this summer will be the third. Could not ask for a better experience. She has had an awesome time, done activities that she never thought she’d like (climbing, kayaking, hiking) and made great friends. Awesome experience.
This place has no loyalty or safety for your children. My niece returned from Camp Hayward with a stick and poke done with pen ink and a needle. She said the counselors were aware of these activities and even did some of the poking. Absolutely unacceptable. I also heard of bullying and crude remarks from fellow campers and the “adults” in charge did nothing to stop this and even laughed at inappropriate jokes. Speaking of jokes, this camp is one.
This place is terrible. I’ve heard of many people who have been there their entire life and been completely betrayed by this program. To devote countless years of their life to this job and not have it reoffered is absolutely ridiculous and embarassing to the camp. No loyalty or safety for your children here. Stick and pokes are done in their free time, and my niece returned traumatized saying she was forced to have this completed. I’m highly disappointed in this, it’s absolutely unacceptable. I’ve heard many occasions of bullying, peer pressure, and other awful things. There are many other camps that are throughout the cape that I think will fit your child better. Waste of money. Waste of time. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.
3rd year for our daughter (now 14) and she loves coming here for 2weeks of her summer. She has a friend who she is bunkmates with and they let you ask for the same cabin. Lots of activities and fun. Staff is great and attentive. Great way to get her off the machines and into arts and crafts and outdoor fun. She also always comes home a little more appreciative and humble which is the camp staff teaching them kindness. She even hugs her brother at pick up time. Wowsers!!!
