I bought my first diesel in 2012, when I needed work I was recommended to see John. I now live 45 miles away but I always make the trip when needed. I trust only him when it comes to my truck. Very knowledgeable, does not play guessing games. Seems like he always knows what’s wrong just by the info I tell him.
I have been bringing my vehicles to Rusty Nuts Diesel & Lube for several years now, and so the first words that come to mind regarding their work is, "consistent quality." I am one to rely on reviews, as well as to write reviews when a business is deserving. That said, this place gets really good reviews, and they deserve it. Here's why...
On my most recent need of their services, my car's alternator was faulty, which I knew ahead of time. To get it there, a tow was involved, and so, to get the car on the tow truck, the driver attempted to hook a power pack to the battery terminals to be able to drive the car on the flat-bed. But most certainly based on the outcome, the driver connected the cables to the opposite terminals (positive to negative), and thus, several fuses were instantly blown.
The replacement of the alternator would have been a one-day, in-and-out operation. But, one of the blown fuses on my car was a specialty part, made by the car manufacturer: thus, delays. I took the car in on Monday, 12/29/25, and after diagnostics, the fuse was ordered. They were told and related to me that due to it being a holiday week (New Years Day on Thursday) this fuse may not be in until Friday, or the Monday following. Bummer...
I rented a car, fully expecting to need it for a solid week.
So, imagine my elated surprise when I got a call from Tony (he's been there for decades -- a really nice and knowledgeable guy) on Wednesday, just 2 days later, that they received the part and had FIXED the car! Before the holiday!
I was able to return the rental after only 2 days use (money saved!) and the car is running like a dream again.
If you live in the Smithsburg, MD area (Hagerstown, etc.), you owe it to yourself to try Rusty Nuts the next time you need service. They do it all, and do it well.

I was traveling from out of town and had a sensor say my tire was going flat. I was so fortunate to find them open and they checked all my tires including my spare. When I went to pay they said no charge. I know I wasn't there long but they still had to stop what they were doing to help me out and give me piece of mind to continue on my travels. The owner and all the staff were so kind and friendly along with being professional. If I lived nearby they would get my business. There is no doubt in my mind that they are a business with integrity.
They are very honest and do great work here! I got my brakes done for a fraction of the price that my dealership charges. Ethan was very professional and took the time to thoroughly explain what was going on with my vehicle and exactly what it needed. I highly recommend them!
First time I’ve had these folks to work on my truck. I have a 2002 Chevy Duramax. Had an injector leak at the supply connection and needed an inspection. Good communication, very reasonable price, would definitely recommend! Thanks!!
Rusty nuts is the best tow company I've dealt with. After waiting for over 24 hours and being turned down by 5 different tow companies due to the nature of my situation, JT came and without hesitation loaded my vehicle up and got the job done quick, and carefully. I would not recommend anyone other than Rusty Nuts!!!!!!
Great overall service. Was out in a timely manner to get my car unlocked after locking keys in my car at work and roadside assistance through insurance left me stranded. We had them come out to tow our ford 450 utility truck and 20 ft equipment trailer that got stuck in a super wet yard and sunk 6 inches. They arrived fast, got me out fast, and at a very fair price. Excellent service.
I am extremely pleased with the service I recieved today. Our car broke an axle and was left on the shoulder of 15, the insurance company set up the tow. Their was instant communication via a tracking site. I spoke with John the owner at one point and he was right on top of handling my questions even though he was on a job as well. I want to give great thanks to JT the driver (Operator) for setting my car exactly where I wanted it and even went as far as helping me move lumber out of the way. The little things make all the difference and I absolutely have made Rusty Nuts Diesel my GO TO for future needs.
Justin was very methodical in making sure our motorcycle was strapped and secure. He brought us bottles of water, took us to a dealership in the next town over that could service the bike and get us back on the road. He took us to get drinks for the night at a gas station and dropped us off at the hotel. He went out of his way to ensure we were well taken care of before he left knowing we were traveling and stranded!

John called me to let me know he was on his way. He is by far the nicest tow truck driver I've ever had, and I will 10/10 call again if I need a tow. Will definitely recommend this towing company to everyone.
I hydroplaned and knocked the drive arms off my rear right tire. Justin got my difficult car on the rollback towtruck like a pro, and I got it home for cheaper, faster than any other company could offer.
I'll be going back to them if I need towed, which is hopefully never, but all things considered I would recommend them!
I am overly please with the professionalism and relaxed attitude that Justin had. In a time where I was highly upset, his demeanor was able to put me at ease. I would recommend using them for any towing needs. 5 stars all around.
My old suburban broke down on I-81 in pa tonight. 4/14/2021.My roadside assistance sent Justin to get my truck back home. He was very professional. He showed up on time and got my truck back to my house safe and sound. He turned a bad evening into a pleasant one.

Had to load 2 Harley's into the back of a 40-ft shipping container, 5 ft off the ground with no ramps. Rusty Nuts to the rescue with a tow truck/flat bed. Rolled the bikes onto the tilt bed, up and rolled back into the container. Slick and easy. Thanks guys!!!
Good, genuine people! Had my cutaway short bus looked at for check engine light plus an oil change. They replaced the spark plugs and wires and o2 sensor for me in the quick time frame I needed and did a great job for a reasonable price. Super nice guy John, would highly recommend and go back again.
I work overnight and got off work to find I had a flat tire in my 2017 Chevy Camaro, my insurance contacted Rusty Nuts to come tow my car home. Justin showed up early, was super polite and nice, gave me great direction on what to do, and got my cat home in one piece. Towing my car is a super stressed because it sits low and not every tow company is super careful with sports cars, but he was amazing and it was greatly appreciated.
These guys are fast, friendly, super professional and extremely helpful. I felt defeated when my car ended up stuck in snow while making deliveries. After waiting for a competitor to show up, the competitor tried to charge me a bunch of money for something they would not be able to do for a few hours. My insurance company cancelled their service and sent for Rusty Nuts Diesel instead. The initial wait time was 90 minutes but these guys showed up in thirty. They got my car out in about 15 minutes while remaining professional and ensuring the safety of myself, my car, and the property. I will absolutely recommend these guys to anyone and while I hope I never need their services again, I will certainly call them if I do
John is the absolute man! He’s fair, and very very knowledgeable. I’m actually on my way to drop my truck off to him for the second time for something unrelated. I will continue to use his services no doubt.

Jon is the best diesel mechanic I have ever met and a great guy. He has been my mechanic for 10 years. He always goes the extra mile to make sure everything is repaired right. He is the only person I will let work on my trucks.
Best there is! Honest! Avoids box store garbage that doesn't hold up. Bullet proofed by 6.0 powerstroke, yes its expensive but solid work! Rebuilt rear axle with locker. Could not be happier. Great to work with!
Amazing service! These guys are as honest and fair as can be. They will treat you right. No high pressure sales tactics here. I found them to be very knowledgeable and respectful. I have used them exclusively for years on my trucks. I respect the fact that they will tell you what you really need right now and what can wait for repairs. The new location is easy to find and very convenient. They have expanded their services to offer repair on not only diesels but gas cars and trucks too. I was even able to get some paint work done and my inspection.
Highly recommend this place if you are looking for excellent quality work and fair prices. A++
