Had a lovely time her for two nights in February! Perfect getaway with spa , dinner, hot tub overlooking the ocean . Everything except we had no hot water in our room but we were well taken care of by the staff and got an extra day at the spa so it all worked out ?

The Cliff House Maine is the epitome of "over promising" and then, sadly, under delivering at every given opportunity. The location is simply wonderful and this hotel wants so desperately to be a 5 Star luxury hotel destination... evidenced by the $1000 / night rates they charge. However, they are nowhere near this level. Their chronic understaffing, due to either the inability or unwillingness to hire, is played out across the hotel and really strains the luxury Hotel experience they long to exude. Management are surely hoping that the panoramic views and beautiful location will distract guests away from noticing all of the hotel shortcomings. 1. Rooms and furnishings are poorly maintained / damaged / stained. If a Hotel cannot deliver on such a essential function of providing clean and well maintained accommodations then thats a major concern and reason enough to look elsewhere. 2. Essential services like housekeeping / dining take forever and are then performed poorly. 3. Food served at Nubbs lobster restaurant is quite terrible. Food is expensive, poorly prepared and just poor all around. 4. Activities offered (scavenger hunt, s'mores etc.) are poorly executed, a disappointment and waste of time. Overall, the best way to experience Cliff House Maine is by spending a couple of hours exploring the incredible location, climbing on the cliffs, taking in the views to then quickly depart the property and return to a different hotel ... that is better run, better maintained and for a better price. Good luck.

I’ll change my review when you guys fix rusted pole in the indoor pool. Talk about someone especially a child getting cut by a sharp rusty pole. It’s unsafe. I come here every year for vacation and would had thought you guys would fix this. When you do I’ll change my review back to 5 Stars because I love this place ! So does my family.

Even in winter, the Cliff House is warm and inviting with spectacular views. Great staff, food and cocktails. Outdoor hot and pool are great for a steaming soak followed by a polar bear plunge! And a day spent at the spa is a day well spent!

Unfortunately updating my review to 1 star. To preface this, my family has always loved the cliff house, we have gone every year for the past 7 years, my sister even had her wedding at cliff house. During my most recent stay, when I checked out of my room, I accidentally left my credit card in the room. I notified the front desk and froze my card. Less than 24 hours later I got attempted charges of $700+ from Best Buy. Seems as though cleaning staff found my card and attempted to use it? Who else would have access to a locked room upon check out? I notified cliff house and they have launched an “investigation” which has had no follow up; when I called to follow up they stated this did not happen and I must’ve left it elsewhere. I am 100% certain I my card in that hotel room. I would not have expected this experience with the cliff house. Previous reviews have stated they have had luxury items stolen from their rooms, maybe the same culprit? As previously stated, we have loved cliff house, but this experience has been less than ideal.

Stayed here with my wife for a weekend for a quick no-kids getaway and absolutely enjoyed the heck out of the trip. Obvious disclaimer to start that it's a pricy place. The sweeping vistas and seascapes alone add to the sticker price but you really can't help but be wowed. My theory, at least for some folks, is that they pay all this money that they have to start looking for flaws and imperfections in their stay and they leave disappointed because it becomes sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy. I don't have any comments to make about dust smudges or quality of body wash etc. Here's what I liked: 1. I thought the staff was 5-stars bar-none. Wonderful valet. We received a thoroughly enjoyable (and helpful) tour of the premises on check-in. Our turndown service was quick and thorough. Donville at The Tiller was probably sick of us by the time we left - he was such a gem. Grace, our waitress at Nubbs was tremendous too. We rented an outdoor igloo and she had to traverse through -5 degree wind chill to serve us. Incredibly demonstrative grit. 2. I really enjoyed the room itself. Bed was probably top 2-3 for most comfortable hotel bed I've ever experienced. We had an ocean balcony room and they provided binoculars (nice touch). Great for watching and listening to the black scoters. Gas fireplace in the room obviously added to the winter staycation vibe. Walk-in shower was very spacious and well-detailed. Like I mentioned, the turndown service was ninja-esque. 3. In my opinion, the Tiller was one of my favorite hotel restaurants of all-time. The views are so sweeping it's like dining on a cruise ship. Maine lobster in a variety of exciting ways. It isn't necessarily stuffy either. Loose, fun casual vibe with a great bar. On that note, we really liked Nubbs too - we had great brisket and a lobster roll there as well. We just preferred the Tiller and had 3 or 4 meals there. Excellent breakfast too! 4. I can't speak too much on this myself, but my wife had a pre-natal massage at the spa and had nothing but good things to say. I didn't visit the massive indoor/outdoor pool/jacuzzi area but it did look very well-maintained. So I'll end with this - If you can stomach the price, you get great natural beauty, great service, great food options, and incredibly comfy bed and a quintessential Maine experience. Would absolutely recommend.

This was a surprise weekend birthday getaway for me that also turned into a proposal. My now fiancé booked this getaway for us and had planned to propose. I later learned all of the staff here were involved in one way or another. From the moment we arrived to the time we checked out, to the hours leading up to the proposal, everything was perfect. The staff were attentive, professional and personable. We enjoyed meals at the Tillar and Nubbs. Each meal was excellent with exceptional service from the servers. My fiancé had scheduled me time in the spa which was to die for. The service, staff and amenities were amazing. He scheduled me for a manicure that was the most relaxing manicure I’ve ever had, and my nails looked perfect for the proposal later that day. We enjoyed coffee and breakfast sandwiches on site as well. We can’t thank the staff enough for a memorable weekend that will live with us forever and can’t wait to return.

Overcrowded, understaffed, grossly unequipped for the crowds that were there for a post New Year’s vacation. It was not advertised anywhere on their site that there was a family package offered for our dates that created an absolutely overpacked situation. We would’ve saved the money and gone elsewhere. Had it been properly advertised. Additionally, half of their outdoor property was shut down due to “weather”. This was typical main winter weather.

We took a little winter getaway here after new years. The family package offered great benefits. The property is stunning and clean. The house keeping staff is top notch and super friendly. However, the indoor pool was quite chilly. And we got two charges to our room number that we did not make. Check your bills!!

It was a really good hotel we went there back in July, and we had a really good experience the food was amazing the activities were good and it was really easy. We stayed at the adult pool and it was a pretty nice pool. They have two pools and both of them are amazing. They are also different places like there’s a restaurant gym and movie theater. And it’s really good because there’s like all these rocks in the back of the hotel that people can go on.

The Place That Makes You Forget the Outside World Exists For the past five years, our group’s annual couples’ retreat has taken us to Cliff House Maine, and at this point, we’re convinced it’s less a hotel and more a luxurious force field that makes the real world disappear. First stop: the Ledges building, where every room feels like it was designed by someone who took one look at the Atlantic Ocean and said, “Let’s make this view illegal everywhere else.” Waking up here is like starring in your own coastal romance movie—minus the dramatic plot twists. Then there’s the spa, which - from what my wife says - is basically a sanctuary where time stops and stress evaporates on contact. You float in, get massaged into another dimension, sip infused water like a wellness influencer, and walk out fully ready to pretend your email inbox isn’t a thing. But the crown jewel? The outdoor hot tub overlooking the cliffs! Sit in that steaming, bubbling bliss while watching waves explode against the rocks below, then you’ll understand. Honestly, once you arrive, you don’t need to go outside for anything except walking to the next building…which is basically still inside. After five years of returning, we’ve learned the sacred truth: Cliff House isn’t just a getaway! It’s a relationship booster, a group tradition, and the only place where our entire crew can collectively achieve peak relaxation without ever stepping foot off the property. Already counting down to year six.

Gorgeous hotel - barely left the premises because it was complete perfection. Lots of great dining options, the spa was lovely, amazing swimming locations, and the view was to die for. Can't wait to go back!

We have stayed here a few times ... The Tiller is outstanding in all areas. Rooms are comfortable and clean but now well insulated from noise in the hallway. Views are beautiful and the gym provides everything you need for a good workout in a large, clean and comfortable space. The only drawback was the service at the front desk with staff appearing bored, unmotivated, undertrained, and dismissive of questions or concerns. Managers covering the front desk staff had a similar presentation. Hopefully efforts are underway to improve this area of the hotel's operations.

Lunch on the water with a million dollar view. Chris our server was fantastic. The Lobster Roll was very good but the views were stunning. Will be back for sure.

Service and view ….amazing. Beautiful rooms, but pillows are sub par. I didn’t like that they no longer offer coffee in the morning. I don’t like making a Kerug on vacation, I do that at home. I just spent 5 nights at Samoset and they put out coffee and various creamers in silver at 7:00 ….beautiful music and sunset views. Cliff House offers a coffee shop, but at a premium. Overall, this is a beautiful resort and we will return.

They honestly thrive in thinking of all the small things. And for the cost, they should. The only things I wish they would fix is better water pressure or handheld adjustable shower heads because the water pressure in the shower is weak, and brighter lighting in the rooms as it’s too dim lit. There is also some hallway noise but no noise from other adjacent rooms. I love the Keurig and water bottle refill stations on each floor. 2 of our nights they left us with turn down service chocolates. There was a basket of complimentary snacks and drinks upon arrival, not replenished during the stay though, which was fine as it was an unexpected touch anyway. The linens have a high thread count and there are feather or foa pillows. Very responsive HVAC. The property is beautiful and well placed as a base camp. Plenty of parking unless there is an event I which case I wish they could make guests use the valet lot because there was no self park remaining.

We tried to cancel our reservation and they still charged us the entire deposit. Would not recommend at all. Spoke with Marjorie with reservations on the phone and the only solution was to pay an additional $150+ for an ocean front view, so we took the $370 hit and felt obligated to warn others.

We attended a wedding at The Cliff House in Maine last week and stayed for two nights — it was absolutely unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the breathtaking setting. The property sits dramatically over the cliffs, and our waterfront room had views that felt straight out of a postcard. The grounds are immaculate, and you can tell there’s true attention to detail in everything they do, from the landscaping to the elegant common spaces. The staff was warm and attentive, making us feel welcomed and cared for throughout our stay. The wedding itself was magical, and the Cliff House proved to be the perfect venue — blending natural beauty with world-class service. On top of that, the food was a 10/10. Every meal we had was outstanding, fresh, and full of flavor.

Dined at their Tiller Restaurant. When you enter, the ocean view is stunning. The day and evening were crystal clear with a gorgeous harvest moon. I had rack of lamb and my husband a steak. Both were very good but not extraordinary. Highly recommend for the experience.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Cliff House in York, Maine, and I must say, the experience was unforgettable, thanks in large part to Chris, the bartender. From the moment we arrived, Chris made us feel right at home with his warm and welcoming attitude. The drink he crafted for me was absolutely perfect—balanced, refreshing, and just the right amount of creativity. You can tell he’s a pro with the way he knows his craft. The food was equally amazing—flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. Every bite was a delight. Chris really elevated the entire experience, making it feel special and tailored. Whether you're a local or just passing through, I highly recommend stopping by and letting Chris serve you. You'll leave with a full belly and a smile on your face!

This is a gorgeous hotel with exquisite ocean views. It has a peaceful, relaxing vibe with a focus on wellness. The seafood was great with menus that can accommodate just about any allergy or food restriction. There are several options for on site restaurants. The rooms were spacious, clean and well decorated (nautical). I stayed in a one bedroom corner suite, nothing beats the double terrace. The service staff on site around the pool, in restaurants, spa and front desk were excellent. HOWEVER, no one answered the phone. Trying to book a spa treatment in advance was nearly impossible. No one picks up the phone and they don’t return voicemails. My stay was approaching so I finally called the reservation department explaining. They had to take down my info, walk over to the spa and find someone to call me back. By that time, they were booked all 3 days I was there (Sun/Mon/Tue) aside from one last open slot before they closed allowing for a short treatment I settled for. Same situation for room service, no one picks up the phone and reservation staff had to help again (a 40min wait for delivery after 40min of trying to contact someone). Despite this, I really did enjoy my birthday stay. It was just what a needed - quiet, beautiful and relaxing. I would definitely stay again, it’s just disappointing that no one answers the phone in room service or the spa especially given their price point and reputation.

We have stayed at the cliff house at least 4 times over the past 35 years. We have seen many changes here over the decades. Although the resort is now much larger with updated amenities and decor and spacious rooms. I miss the intimate cozy game and hearth rooms from 30 years ago where guests would gather around for social activity and music. The resort although beautiful now, feels big, more corporate, less personal and intimate as it once did. The resort somehow felt crowded and impersonal, when in public areas. Lastly, I used room phone to call concerirge desk to ask questions regarding shuttle to marginal way and about social activities. There was no answer, i had to leave message. My husband and went to explore and take photos. As we explored, I stopped by concierge desk seeing an employee was available. I had my questions answered. No shuttle had stopped running immediately after labor day. Live music would occur later in evening for short time, but concierge had no idea who or what genre of music it was that day. After our photos and exploration, and having been to concierge, about 30 min after having returned to our room the room phone rang. It was the concierge returning my call from well over an hour prior. Its our opinion that the cliff house has lost some of its intimate traditions of board games, ping pong, popcorn, guitar by the fireplace, socialization and old fashion charm. The menu for dinner at the cliff house resturant seemed to be more limited than I recalled previously. We ended up driving into town for dinner, something which we did not want to do. It may sound strange to some who havent stayed at previous cliff house, but before as guests several of us discussed how we looked forward or even hoped for stormy weather while staying here. The weather would have been simply an excuse to stay 'shut in' for the day(s) at the lodge. Where we would previously enjoy time, meet some fellow travelers by fireplace, pop some fresh popcorn, having fireplace melted sam'ores, have bar drinks served to your leather armchair by the fire. All the while we could watch the big waves splash against the the lighted cliffs, laugh and play board games or ping pong, and listened to live music before/ after dinner then retreating to our rooms with our loved one. Regardless of weather, the guests wanted to stay at the resort not leave. Those activities are gone or lacking now. Replaced by more corporate feeling less personal experinces. The expanded remodeled Cliff House has fabulous decor and was extemely comfortable. Yet in our opinion, its not what it used to be. Id happily pay the new higher remodeled room rate, even trade some the new decor to have the experiences and nostalgia of what we had here previously. Its what money cant buy that seems lacking now. Previously staying at the cliff house felt like being away at a fancy adult 'camp', a posh comfortable reunion of sorts with the guests staying there, many of which were returning guests. Comparatively speaking the Cliff House today, to us, wasnt worth the price and for us it certainly lacked its previous intimate Maine hideaway charm. Overall it was good, but woefully a lacking experience from our previous stays. I doubt we will return because as its grown in size its lost its original charm.

We just came back from a fabulous vacation in Maine! The Cliff House was our first stop and did not disappoint from the location, beauty of the property and the wonderful staff. We enjoyed cocktails at the bar, watching the sunrise from our balcony and sitting in the outdoor hot tub overlooking the water. We'd highly recommend!

I came here for the spa and brunch. Had a great experience. The views are spectacular and they position the building so you can get the most of the views. Spa was clean and relaxing. My services were decent and the relaxation rooms are beautiful. Food at the Terrace restaurant was good and nothing beats that cool breeze and view. I will definitely be back.

This was our second stay….such a lovely hotel! We had friends meet us to check out the views/design, and we all agreed that it is out of this world. We had a few complaints that were addressed promptly and with courtesy. We found the staff at the front desk to be very friendly and respectful, and the manager was extremely pleasant and responsive. Though it is pricey, and there is no beach access, and the main restaurant could improve slightly with a few more vegetarian friendly options (the waitstaff is excellent), they make up for it with the incredible location. We really love it there and have recommended it on several occasions!

had, and it was especially shocking considering the amount I paid for this stay – the booking was not cheap at all. I booked through the hotel’s website, and upon arrival, I was surprised by the lack of professionalism and experience of the front desk staff. When I finally received the rooms, they were old, poorly maintained, and nothing like what was advertised. One room had a partial ocean view but mostly faced air conditioning units, while the other looked directly at the corners of the building. When I went to raise my concerns, I was told that a cancellation fee would be applied if I chose to leave. The reception staff were unprofessional, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. I requested to meet the manager, and I was initially told he was unavailable, only to later find out—after insisting—that he was in fact on-site. While the manager himself was polite and understanding, the front desk team’s behavior was unacceptable and lacked any sense of customer care. What made this worse is that I explained I was traveling with my special needs child, yet they showed zero consideration or empathy. This trip was meant to be a relaxing getaway with my autistic daughter, but instead it was a stressful and disappointing experience that completely ruined our plans. For the amount I paid, the service and treatment I received were utterly unacceptable. I would never recommend this property to anyone.”?
