What clients say about Dean's Motor Lodge in Portage Lake Township (ME)

Never met a person as RUDE as Dawn the owner of this place-Dean’s Motor Lodge. Had my helmet stolen from this place 3 yrs ago. We have been back many times since then. Walked in today to be told we needed to leave our helmets on helmet rack vs placing them in the 2 empty chairs at our table. Dawn argued with me my helmet did not get stolen, as she was the person it was reported to 3yrs ago. Needless to say we wont be eating here today!!

Dawn and her daughters are the best . We had such a grand time while staying there thru omm outfitters for a week of moose hunting . They cooked our dinners to perfection and packed a solid lunch for out in the bush. I can't say thank you enough. This is a week to remember for sure . I tagged a nice 39 inch bull on tuesday . I highly recommend staying here whether you want to hunt or ride snowmobile they are the best !!! Thanks hope to see you again !! David Martin

I’m a truck driver so I’ve eaten at a lot of places. Best damn chicken sandwhich of my entire life. Plus they have a professional baker that makes their desserts. Will definitely be coming back. 11/10

Easy to get there, right on rt 11. Dinner was good, not amazing. Huge portions, good options, some seemed to be just quick 'heat and eat' foods rather than actually prepared. Lots of seafood on the menu. Bread looked home made. We liked both meals off the specials menu. Our guests chose off the regular menu and that's where some of it was just quick prep food. The service was the highlight. Great servers, very attentive and very upbeat. Will go again, solid dinner choice for the area.

Do not come on a Friday night, the service was horrible and the obnoxious drunks ruin any chance of being able to hear the people at your table. So disappointing. Our waitress cared more about the drunk snowmobilers than her other tables. It should be noted, the other staff was hustling doing a great job, ours not so much.

Great place to stop in the North Maine woods! Food and service were fantastic! I haven't stayed the night there, but I imagine the accommodations are good as well.

AMAZING. We showed up at 8 PM and they got us a room for a BARGIN. Grill was closed but they cooked us dinner anyway. Love this area and the service here.

Review is for restaurant, I have never stayed in hotel as I am local. Food is wonderful especially the Haddock Supreme or their seafood dishes. Desserts also all great. I try something different every time. Service is fast and friendly. It can be noisy, busy, during sledding season, certain times of year, but its worth it. Make a reservation for better experience with large party.

Deans has the benefit of being the only restaurant or bar for 30 miles. It is on a beautiful lake in a town know for snowmobile and hunting. The location and number of tourists coming into this little town should be enough to help any hospitality business succeed. ||Unfortunately, the food is the same food served at the gas station next door. Burgers, chicken, fries, are all the same frozen fare from the same supplier. Only difference is the price is triple for those freezer chicken tenders. ||The interior is kind of depressing. It’s not the dark interior of an old bar. Just a dingy building with a poor setup. The main room is left empty to set up the tshirt rack. The tables are in a dim light room off to the side. And the bar is in a separate room in the very back. There is nothing that makes you want to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. With 3 separate rooms to check- the front desk, table room, and bar- the staff can be hard to find when you need to cash out or get an order. ||The hours are irregular. It seems to be open when the owners come up to visit their vacation business, then closes without warning - a note on the door- that it’s going to be closed for a month or two. ||

Dean's was a wonderful little Hotel in the Town of Portage, Maine,The Room we had was spotless and Very very comfortable, They have a Very Good restaurant right there and their food is Great. We had a wonderful experience there and would stay there again in a heartbeat !

The rooms were clean and beds comfortable. A couple things worth noting....we were given instructions on how to unlock the room door because you have to jiggle the key to get it to unlock. Or, the owner could replace all the locks so guests don't have to bother with the unique process. The food was very good, however, the owner should definitely invest in new air-conditioning for the restaurant.

Had a most delicious lunch of blackened haddock seasoned with Cajun seasoning, loaded mashed potato with coleslaw. The service was AWESOME, and will definitely be returning.

We go there often for Sunday lunch. A really nice drive and really great food! My daughter always gets a custom-made pizza and it never fails to impress. This week I got the Portabella mushroom sandwich with sautéed spinach and cheese – I ate every bite! I must try if you’re anywhere near the area! I would also give their fried pickles a try! I doubt you’ll be disappointed

Finally got to eat at Dean’s since the new owner took over and was extremely impressed with the quality of food! Southern Maine high end restaurants were put to shame compared to the home- cooked, perfectly flavored meals we got here.

Stopped here while visiting Portage Lake. Hamburger cooked exactly as requested and portobello mushroom sandwich was superb. Indian pudding was very good. Great, attentive service and reasonable prices. Looks to be a local favorite!

The lobster and seafood pot pie was delicious. The puff pastry crust was buttery, flaky with a hint of garlic. A generous filling of lobster, scallops, haddock and shrimp in a tasty sauce. The mashed potatoes were devine and I chose the cauliflower which was done to perfection . The waitress was very helpful with information about the area. Everyone was very friendly. It's my first time in Portage Lake the area is gorgeous.

It was my first time to eat at the restaurant since last summer so I was enjoying the new menu created by the new owner. It definitely is a step up in offerings and taste. We started with fluffy, crisp onion rings and finished with strawberry shortcake. My entree was different and delicious, a seafood medley of scallops, shrimp and haddock, with the buttered crumbs on the bottom and topped with a cheesy Hollandaise sauce.||Others enjoyed their choices as well. Good food, good service... we'll be back.

You always feel welcome at Dean's. I just visited with my son and dog Zeus after not being there for 12 years. The staff makes you feel welcome even when it is clear that you are not a local resident. The food as always was great and they were so kind making to go meals for the dog.

I have been coming to Dean's for 45 years, for meals and dancing. Finally stayed overnight. We had two queens in the new annex. (There are also rooms in the main building above the restaurant. We went up there first as we thought our room was there. We did not see the rooms but the hallway has recently been redone and looked great....am guessing the rooms are similar). We had a big room with nice touches. The beds were actual queens and were comfy. Great TV and a nice coffee maker. Lighting and outlets were very good. There was a nice easy chair and a big dresser. Bathroom was nice. The shower took a few minutes to go from warm to hot but other than that it was good. Plenty of good towels, etc. And the room was CLEAN. The housekeeper was a star.....when my wife couldn't figure out how to deflate our air mattress (there was 5 of us), the housekeeper took care of it. (I was gone). The rooms are not super soundproofed, but it wasn't a problem. Wifi was good. They gave us early check-in and were as pleasant as could be. You are thirty steps away from Dean's awesome restaurant and a great breakfast. The general store is right across the street, as is a great playground with tennis and basketball courts. We paid $80 for a great stay in a wonderful little village. On the edge of the wilderness in "old Maine". Dean's has been here for 90 years.....it's a gem.

Dean’s Motor Lodge is a convenient stop along the Maine trail system. We stopped in for lunch, and had a good meal in a casual environment. Lobster Roll was very good, and the fries were outstanding. Nice variety on the menu, with a great selection of desserts. Homemade graham cracker pie was delicious.

I an a local, and Deans is still a treat after many years. Great food and service. Scallops and prime rib are especially delicious & can't be topped.
