We went just for dinner, and there happened to be a comedy show at The Old Mill. It was an amazing dinner and a wonderful show! But, boy do they mean one inconvenient location lol

My husband and I had reservations for Valentine’s Day. Dinner and a night in the Wilkerson. The bed was covered in stains. Mouse poop everywhere. The closest with the mirrored doors had mice running across the pile of stuff left on the floor. We have called and emailed hoping someone would respond to us. Absolutely disgusting.

A friend and I stopped at The Story Inn for a night on our way to Indianapolis. I went in blind because she had made all the arrangements and upon driving into the area I felt like I had stepped back in time. The best way to describe the picturesque compound is that it feels like the town of Spectre from the movie Big Fish. It is adorable and quaint. We had arrived in the early evening and quickly put our luggage into our adorable cottage so we could make our way down to the tavern. We enjoyed many drinks and some typical bar fare along with some conversations with the locals. The atmosphere was incredibly welcoming and homey. We walked back to our cottage and had a comfortable slumber. It was a great stay and I can’t wait to return!

Went for a best friend's weekend getaway, the owner, Rich , and the bartender were both wonderful! The rooms that we were able to visit and the cottage we stayed in were both perfectly comfortable and clean! Even though the furniture is older, the king size bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in! Everybody was so friendly and helpful and did whatever they could to make our trip perfect including, fast response time fast response time and helpful tips. We had a great day in Nashville also and ran into just as many friendly helpful people at local businesses. I would love to come back, as my best friend is already making plans to do it again . Thanks for having us!

We went for the Victorian dinner for our anniversary. The food was excellent and the staff and owner were very friendly and professional. This is a bed and breakfast also. Story was established in 1851. They also have a bar downstairs with bar foods.

I was there for Thanksgiving lunch. Within a few minutes of sitting down and ordering a drink, our plates were thrown in front of us. Unaware that every single side would be thrown on the plate there was never any discussion of what was on the plate or any choices to be made about preferred meat or sides. The website clearly indicated that the choice of prime rib or turkey would be given. The plate had both along with way too many sides, which were never made clear of which ones. Also, what was supposed to be turkey looked to be the scraps. No one in the place smiled or said happy Thanksgiving. And they could not have rushed us out of there fast enough. The waitress kept trying to take our plates before we were done. I've eaten at high quality steakhouses in Indianapolis for Thanksgiving that are $20 cheaper and the quality of food is so much better. We'll never come back. I would advise to rethink what and how it is served for a holiday that is supposed to be enjoyable.

I have stayed at the Inn and cabins several times over the past 20 years… always enjoyed the quaintness, food and tales. However, my husband and I visited the bar last night, sat there quite a while and was completely ignored, not even acknowledged. We ordered food and drinks. My husband ordered a Philly cheesesteak.. which was dry on a hamburger bun, no fries. I ordered cheese fries, I was handed a plate of fries topped with cold shredded cheese. We were so disappointed, and will not be back. I was so excited to share this charming place with my husband… and so disappointed. Instead of a warm and inviting environment it was cold and terrible food. We won’t be back.

For the price I paid $80 for flaimignon ordered it medium it comes back butterflied and well done the other stuff they served I have no idea what it was but it tasted like dirt I would never ever eat there again it was a waste of money and I'll tell everybody do not waste your money there

So cute and fun. The food at the tavern, (although the menu was small) was phenomenal. Sooooo worth a try. On the weekend, the menu is much larger. I will be back to try that! The cabin was cute, like staying in an antique store. The only thing I would criticize would be the mattresses were too hard and there wasn't enough hot water for 2 people to shower. Other than that, great service. A must see for a short, fall trip ❤️

A week ago we took some friend to Story Inn for brunch. Years ago we had been several times and had enjoyed wonderful food there. Unfortunately this was not our experience this time. The food was dreadful! I asked for a modification with my omelet to omit the chorizo but was told that wasn’t possible because the chef was too busy. There were 3 other tables most were empty. The omelet had huge chunks of hard ham and was overcooked and dry, the hash browns were a soggy grey lump and maybe there were grits in a small dish on the plate but there was no flavor at all to it. The whole plate was inedible. We were handed paper towels (the kind you get in a dispenser in the bathroom) as they had run out of napkins. The wait staff were disorganized and not attentive. It was so embarrassing as we had come from Indianapolis and brought our friends with us after telling them about our great experiences there in the past. It seemed as though the staff had no or little experience, I’m not sure if the business has recently changed hands but the standard of the food and wait staff is very poor.

It was very noisy, could hear every little sound. Coffee pot shorted out and shocked us and laundry was put on the steps and caused me to trip. No offer to reimburse or offer a dinner or anything for the inconvenience or hassle. Neat place but I don't recommend to stay, pop in check it out is it.

My fiancé and I were traveling back from Tennessee up to Illinois again and we heard about this place from a friend and figure it on the way back since we had time to visit here for one. It’s just a beautiful area. It almost seems just out of this world by how cool it is it’s definitely a small town lol but I think that’s what’s amazing about it. We called earlier because we really wanted to try to do the fine dining. Keep in mind they do this on Thursdays we were coming on a Tuesday, so Roxanne, who is amazing told us that they will have the regular grill restaurant going on and that starts at four once we arrived there we did hear that it actually started at five. The nice thing was. Roxanne gave us a deal by giving us money off of a room and paying for our dinner which was just amazing. We ended up actually staying in the blue lady since no one booked it so it felt like a win-win for us and just such a great experience for me and my husband we cannot wait to possibly come back here. We just wanna thank everybody. Definitely go check this place out their food was incredible. I got the lamb shepherds pie and my husband got the story in burger. I would definitely try the pretzel appetizer and the Artichoke dip.

Beautiful place!! Hope to stay over night sometime. Got some amazing pictures. The bartender downstairs isn't very pleasant but neither was the whole crowd down there... it was actually a comical experience as to how those people acted. We all need a good laugh eh? Had some pork BBQ. Best cold $14 pork BBQ of my life.

The Story Inn is not to be missed! The history in this place is just amazing, the food and the tavern downstairs is amazing also. Stone walls great atmosphere great bed-and-breakfast! We will be back !

If the food was as good as the atmosphere it would be perfect! We were disappointed by the 15 dollar cheeseburger that didn't include fries or potato chips. Staff was super nice and the atmosphere is wonderful. Rooms to rent are clean and the resident dog was super sweet. They have an excellent outdoor venue and a pretty garden to walk through. We love it here! It's a great destination from Nashville IN.

What has happened to the quality of food at the story inn?? Cold food , tough steak and salty fish all for the low price of 165.00 including tip. Years ago I had some very delicious meals at story, tonight was not that. Piano music so loud you could not carry on conversation. So disappointed 😞. Our 23rd anniversary will not be celebrated there.. The snarky reply that was posted by Story inn (then deleted), prompted me to edit my review and lower the rating to a more appropriate level.

Ran across this place completely by luck. Out in the middle of nowhere, I absolutely loved the atmosphere. No TV,no good cell service, great time to unplug. Roxanne and Rich were very kind and helpful during check-in. The tavern was so cool. The rooms were rustic. It was an amazing place to stay, will definitely return for another stay.

We were excited to have a nice dining experience at Story having visitied and stayed at the Inn a number of years ago. We first ordered the special mushroom appetizer and it came out within 5 minutes and was quite tasty. We ordered our entrees, consisting of the fish of the day, black grouper, and the pasta primavera. We waited an hour for them to arrive. The grouper consisted of two small pieces, each weighing approximately 3 ounces, covered in a heavy cream sauce that tasted as if it had been soaked in a salt brine for 24 hours. The side of sautéed spinach was cold, also salty, and less than 1/3 of a cup. The vegetable side was also sautéed, but nothing special. That meal cost $70, and we had one bite of each dish before sending it back. The pasta dish our daughter ordered was tasty, but not a large portion and nothing special either, yet it carried a hefty $45 price. A larger and better portion could have been had at any Italian restaurant for $14. The mashed potatoes for the side were cold and lumpy. Service was another disappointment as our server knew nothing about how the dishes were prepared and had to go back to the kitchen to ask. When we addressed the issues with the food to the manager, we got no apology, and no offer for another entree. We refused to pay for the fish, paid for the rest, and left hungry. They should not attempt to be something they're not. This is an old hotel with a restaurant with a very poorly trained staff and a chef that needs to be replaced immediately, or this place will fold sooner than later.

Great getaway from the city and work life. We went on the hottest day. The room we booked above the "store" was too hot for our liking, but Roxanne, the wonderful lady at the front desk booked us in one of the cottages. Our stay was very enjoyable. We walked around the grounds. The dinner in the tavern was good and the atmosphere with others there was fun. Rich, the owner was the nicest person. Just a great place to leave the world behind.

Our anniversary with an overnight and dinner was delightful at the Story Inn! The staff was super welcoming and the fine dining meal was superb and so fresh- several menu ingredients coming directly from the garden that we explored earlier that evening.

My husband and I reserved a cabin for two nights. When I made the reservation, I asked about the cancelation policy. Rich said, we try to work with our costumers because understand things happen. When we arrived we were so impressed by the beauty of the grounds. Our cabin was clean and quaint. The problem was when I took a shower and then tried to flush the toilet, the toilet wouldn't flush. My husband talked to Rich about the problem. Rich said the septic tank was supposed to have been pumped but when Rich checked, it was full. We were understanding and still stayed in the cabin overnight even though my husband couldn't take a shower and we couldn't flush the toilet until morning. Rich offered for us to stay in a different cabin the following night. Because we were on a motorcycle for our trip we watched the weather and the forecast changed. Storms were in the forecast. We explained that to Rich and said we needed to check out. He said he would have to discuss our cancelation with the administrator and get back to us. We waited almost two weeks and didn't hear anything. I called and explained what happened to the receptionist. She took notes and said Rich would call us back. Still no reply after almost three weeks. Also, the food was good, but way overpriced. We had brunch on Mother's Day it was 70. 00, 84.00 with tip.

Best meal we have ever had! The wings and steaks were perfectly cooked . Just melt in your mouth. All sides were so fresh! The cheesecake was to die for! The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed! Give them the highest rating I could. Would definitely come back and eat again. Well worth the drive!!!

First time to Story and we will definitely be back. We celebrated our one year anniversary at the Story Inn and had a fantastic time. Roxanne and Rich couldn’t have been friendlier or more accommodating. Roxanne checked in with us several times to make sure we had everything we needed. We truly felt welcomed and like we were a part of their little town’s community, if only for one night. Minimal cell service means we got to turn off our phones and actually take in the lovely property, see the gardens, drive down the street three miles to hike, and enjoy their delicious food and beverages. We did finally succumb to using their WiFi (which is very fast and provides connectivity all over the property) but it was nice to disconnect for a night. We would highly recommend the Story Inn - it’s a great value and a lovely getaway.

What an amazing experience! We were welcomed into the restaurant on Sunday after brunch and before dinner and told we could order from either menu and everything was amazing as everything is homemade! The chicken salad on homemade crispy croissants, chili, Reuben, homemade chips, and Story Burgers were to die for! No cook here, just a very talented chef. This isn’t common bar food. We were allowed to tour the upstair accommodations and visited the downstairs tavern. Such nice, accommodating staff and the owner was friendly and informative. There are also accommodations in the remaining original houses in Story and available at reasonable rates. 25 minutes from Nashville worth every minute of the drive. Check it out!

My family and I are the first time extended stay persons to get a full experience of the entire grounds. They have several package deals and offers you don't want to pass on. Everyone here is so pleasant and caring. The cottages are very warm and make you feel relaxed. There are several cottage styles to choose from. The tavern is a friendly place. Everyone loves to sing and get along. The dining area is awesome, and the food is definitely worth the experience. There is a lot of loyalty on the grounds and that's a big up in my book. There are lots of things to see and do if you're a nature person. We have truly loved our experience and stay here and look forward to the next trip. High respect 🙏 the ninja & the Princess

This review is long overdue, but this is literally the cutest and most romantic place. My husband and I got married In September 2023 and spent our honeymoon weekend here. We stayed in the Treaty Inn and it is such a vibe. It has a hot tub and there is a little flower and vegetable garden right next to it that you can walk through. They have cats that walk around the little town, but they mostly stay by the main Inn. If you stay i definitely recommend you go to the Inn for brunch! They serve different things everytime but it’s always so yummy! The staff here are some of the friendliest people as well! When we went back in 2024 for our first anniversary, they gave us wine glasses and a tote bag to celebrate. This place holds such a special place in our hearts. If you are thinking of anywhere to stay in Nashville this is definitely the best one!

Pretty great place. Food is good, the atmosphere is cool, and the drinks are cold. We rode our horses over 2 different days. 1st day went great. But a non-horse patron messed with our horses on our second trip over. Be careful if you ride over. And if they aren't your horses, keep your distance.

I can’t say enough good things about Story. The place, the rooms, the staff and even the resident pets all bring such a magnificent and beautifully overwhelming sense of serenity, calm, belonging… its a one a million experience staying here and even better if you happen to book on a weekend with an event scheduled. We stayed twice on our last trip through Brown County and the second time we were there during the annual wine fair. They had incredible live music, fantastic food, great wine to sample and a wonderful crowd of friendly folks rolling through by car, motorcycle and on horseback. By the time we checked out we had made some great new friends, had the chance to sing and play music with folks, and also relax with privacy. If you get the chance, or you’re looking for the BEST Indiana has to offer, or you’re on the hunt for a secluded romantic getaway - Story is the place - hands down. I’ve traveled the Midwest extensively over a decade and a half and NOTHING compares to Story. My most sincere thanks to the entire staff for making it such an incredible couple of visits. The owner was phenomenal, welcoming, eager to enable our desire to explore the area, play a piano in the general store, and learn about the history of the place. I cannot recommend highly enough that you go a little bit out of your way and spend an evening, or a weekend in Story. 11/10. Amazing.
