If I could give negative stars I would infinitely. I went in for spark plugs and new coil packs. I paid $150 for a inspection which includes looking at my axles I picked up my car and not even 3 miles down the road a bolt flew off then throughout the week more bolts were flying off to the point where my axle dropped out of my car while driving if they would have done a proper inspection They would have known that my axle bolts were loose or if they loosened them being that I never had any issue with my axle until I brought it to the shop The same day I got my car back is the same day The first bolt flew off within 3 miles of the shop I called and left a voicemail addressing the issue and now I am being avoided And ignored I will definitely be getting in contact of the board of business to address my situation since I am being ignored I could have got seriously hurt with my child and I am pregnant. They do not care. They just want your money. They did address that my axle was bad, but they did not address that all my axle bolts were loose to the point where I could take them out with my fingers. Bring your business somewhere else save your money time and frustration
Was taking family members to O'Hare to catch a flight. 40 miles from airport and 100 miles from home, the oil pressure light came on in my 2002 Volkswagon Eurovan. Googled and called Sunset and spoke to Armando. He said bring it in and he will look at ASAP. Mechanic Joe diagnosed the problem. Oil pressure was OK, but the sensor is bad. They would have to order part, which my time frame did not allow. Armando said it is fine to drive, replace the sensor when you get back home. Was back on the road in 20 minutes. If you are looking for auto service to be done in the Waukegan area, give Sunset a call. Armando, Joe, and Nani.....lady at front desk were absolutely awesome. Good honest people. Was at Emissions and found out a different mechanic had unplugged something while installing an remote starter in my mom's car - was impacting our ability to have the emissions tested. Zipped down the street to Sunset and they immediately helped us resolve the issue, was friendly, courteous, and saved the day!
Sunset, under the management of Ron Alesi - a car guy with decades of experience - are above all, problem solvers. Whenever I've had issues with my 2009 AWD G37X, Ronnie and his guys came up with practical solutions and backed up their work. They do the routine work and specialize in the problem issues that can befall older vehicles, like electrical with Infinitis over 100,000 miles. In a nutshell, SA means fair prices, no BS, great experience in auto repair and Ronnie's strong network of other automotive professionals and parts houses just a phone call away. If he can get a used part to save money, he does it. Sometimes, it's nothing more than good advice on an item that's putting no money into their pockets. You call up SA and you get an answer or else Ronnie says "I'll call you back and he does just that, 10 minutes, an hour, later, with the information a customer needs to make an informed decision. My G37 has over 130,000 miles on it and I am confident that with SA's reasonably priced help, I'll continue to drive it for years to come.
Was trying to find a place to mount my winter tires but everyone was busy. On my way home I drove past this place. Glad I stopped they have fast service and the east coast guy there tells you how it is straight up with no bullsh*t. Hard to find people like that now. 10/10 will be going back for all my tire needs.
I am glad that I went there. The place is clean the people are professional. They got my car in right away and fixed my tire. The price for the tire repair was reasonable. I will go back.
Ron did a great job! I brought my car in for an alignment and to patch what I thought was a leaking tire. After performing the alignment inspection, he was very straightforward about the repairs my car needed, explaining how each repair and replacement would affect the quality and safety of my drive.
I never felt pressured to accept the work and he worked with me to get the car road safe in a matter of days and at a reasonable price. I knew my car needed some work done as my drive was not smooth and I could feel every bump in the road, but didn’t know where to start. The cost of the inspection was applied to the repairs and he worked with me to source used parts (aluminum wheels) that would drive down the cost of the repairs. He even buffed up and coated the wheels to give them a nicer look even though I was completely fine with putting them on as is.
He started working immediately and followed up with me after I picked up my car to make sure I had no complaints or issues with my drive after the repairs. Ron takes a lot of pride in his work and he was very honest with pricing, giving me estimates and asking if I wanted to have the repairs done in piecework to make it more financially viable for me.
In the end, my car needed all four wheels, front struts, and front shocks replaced as the wheels had been bent from the worn out struts and shocks that originally came with the vehicle (it’s from 2006). My catalytic converter had completely rusted through, I could actually smell exhaust every time I turned my car on, so that and the pipe connecting it was replaced. No more exhaust smell in my cabin! Finally, he mounted my tires, balanced and rotated them, and then I got my passing alignment! My “leaking” tire was actually just losing air from the wheel rim bending.
I want to thank Diego for a job well done. I am a first time customer and will be servicing all my cars with him. They patched up my tire, which had a nail in it. They were efficient, thorough, professional, and very fair with their pricing. I am impressed with Diego’s knowledge and experience when it comes to cars. I Highly recommend this shop to everyone!
Quick and professional service. I'll start by saying the establishment was clean and very welcoming. As you wait on your service, they have a nice waiting area with comfortable chairs, A/C, and complimentary cold water and coffee. But you probably won't be waiting as long as you think because as soon as they got to work, it was done in no time. I went in for a time replacement because mine went flat on the road. Before they started trying to sell me anything, they inspected the bad tire to see if they could repair it first. Unfortunately they couldn't, so they took a look in the shop to see if they had any used tires that would work. But again, they didn't. At this point I thought I might have to go elsewhere, but they gave me a quote on a replacement and said I could come back in a few hours. I left the tire and went home for a bit. I got a call 3 hours later saying the tire was mounted and balanced. I returned to the shop, they immediately got to work putting it on my car. As soon as it was done, I paid the exact amount that was quoted. I left happy and stress free. Thank Angel
Had an issue with my sons car that we thought was the rotor. Was able to make an appt and get my car in first thing in the morning. Ronnie was great. Called me as soon as they figured out what the issue was and discussed a plan to fix it. He knew it was my sons car and looked over everything else, realizing that it would benefit with an oil change, which I knew it hadn’t had in some time. I asked him to check out one of my tires which he did and we worked out a plan with a great price to have my tires replaced. The service was great, not pushy or in anyway trying to get me to get things changed that my car didn’t need. Was invested in making sure it was safe for my son to drive in the winter. I have been to other places that just add on services or add on charges without explaining. This place is great! Will definitely come back in the future!! Fast service, convenient, and to the point!

Our car was in very desperate need of repair. We ended up needing to replace our engine along with a heater core and a throttle thing that I can't remember the name of. So needless to say they went above and beyond to make the car good as new! They also provided a means for us to have transportation as our car was being fixed. Ronnie, the shop Manger, found an excellent replacement engine and OEM parts to made sure that the car was working like it should. Many thanks to him and his team for doing such a fantastic repair job. I highly recommend Sunset Automotive for the tough repairs like mine. Great job Ronnie, we love our car again!
Decided to check out the shop since I had a tire that was shot and needed an oil change. I met with Ron who quoted me a very reasonable price and even got me a ride home so I didn't have to wait since they were quite busy. He gave me a call when my car was ready and they even did a safety inspection and let me know about my brakes which are getting close to needing to be replaced. Really friendly service, and I will be coming back for any future work needed on my car.
I have been bringing my cars to this shop for a couple of years now and they never disappoint. Great workers and Ron always tells it as it is. Very honest person. Will always recommend this place. Appreciate very much the attention brought to the client and cars. No complaints whatsoever.
If you go to any mechanic, GO HERE! Ronnie and his crew will treat you like family and make sure that everything is done correctly and efficiently. They did a fantastic job with my old car and took care of me; keeping me up to date and being real with me. They truly are the best in the area. They didn’t charge me and arm and a leg for everything they did, and they did what they could to keep it in my budget. I will be referring anyone and everyone I know to these guys. Could not thank them enough for all the help they’ve done for me.
This place is awesome! Ron is a truly down to earth, caring and honest guy! As a woman I generally do not look forward to getting work of any kind done on my car as many times in the past I've had these male dominated establishments try to take advantage of me thinking I had no clue about cars (which is far from the case!) But not here and not Ron! I felt comfortable and respected and very much at ease with his knowledgeable yet relaxed demeanor. I will bring all my car needs to Sunset Tire and Auto and I have been referring them to family and friends and you will too. The biggest thing that got me to even go there was all the positive reviews. I've been to many other places and they are quick to nickel and dime you over simple trivial things. I didn't get that from these guys. I know businesses need to make money but these guys care and aren't trying to kill anyone to do it. I appreciate that, and I'm sure you will too! So do yourself a favor and check these guys out!

Ron is a friendly no nonsense person,he seems to understand the operation of a safe vehicle over the road first and then the value of customer service and customer relations all at the same time. Contacted Sunset Tire and Auto to inquire about tire repair and Ron was very friendly on the call. Ron scheduled time for me to bring vehicle in and upon arrival he was personable and provided the service I needed. Ron and his team shared recommendations for other services needed and explained why (problems I was aware of). The service time was short and I received exceptional customer service from Ron and his Team.
I bought a new car during winter and needed new tires. Went in, got a nice set ordered without a hassle. Had them installed and was happy. I recently took my car here for an oil change because of my positive experience with the tires and was in and out with no hassle and no upselling nonsense. Highly recommend this shop.
Edited 2/9/19: since I originally posted this review, I have been back a few times. The staff has always been friendly and treated me great. I still get my oil changed here and they offer free rotations when you buy your tires from them. Recently they even helped me get a stuck lug nut off my rim so I could replace it, and they had me in and out within a couple of minutes. I still highly recommend these guys, and will continue to come here when it’s time for my next set of tires
Super friendly staff! Ron the manager was so super nice to me. I owe that guy a bottle of Manhattan Special! Made me feel right at home while I waited for my tires. Affordable pricing, very inviting waiting area, I have nothing but good things to say! I'll defiantly be back next time my car needs some maintenance.
New to there area so I decided to try the internet for a good auto repair shop. The reviews were great and they all had one thing in common. The Manager named Ron. My car needed lots of work, but Ron made my sticker shock more bearable. His energy is great and knowledge of the industry a joy to talk about. I don't believe the reviews and think they are phony.
Called spoke with owner about electrical problem on a 2003 Chevy Avalanche he said bring it in we can fix it.
I drove my vehicle to the shop.
7 days later I had to have it towed to a Chevy dealer.
They destroyed the possibility of a normal cost to fix my vehicle being towed #1
Now the extra cost from dealer to repair what they damaged. #2
45 years I have never ran across a place that won't call you back and made a vehicle worse than when you brought it in.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!
Highly recommend this shop. Quick, honest and all about the customer. If they can save you money somewhere, they will. Won’t pressure with up selling. They’ll let you know what’s needed, and what can wait.
Been bringing my vehicles here since I moved to Waukegan. New management there even better than the first, and the first was great. Can’t go wrong taking your cars here. A+
Excellent service & straight to the point! Ron knows his stuff & everytime I drop 1 of my vehicles here they have the work done & finished usually on the same day, if it's a really big job then by the next afternoon. No waiting around for days for them just to look at the car like other repair businesses.
My husband and I have been going to sunset tire for a few years now and their customer service has truly amazing. Ron is so knowledgeable, honest, and trustworthy. He tells you exactly what’s going on, what to anticipate, and keeps you updated throughout the process of vehicle work/repairs. As a woman, especially, finding a mechanic who speaks to you with respect is hard to find - and I’ve found that here. We will continue to trust our vehicles to sunset tire and auto for many years to come.

Had an issue with the ABS on my son's 2001 Tahoe. Brought it in and Ron was so kind and checked ouy the whole car. The wheel bearing was bad and he fixed it immediately at an excellent price. Ron gave us a full diagnostic of the vehicle. I appreciate his honesty and understanding. Gives me piece of mind my son is in a safe vehicle. Will definitely be coming back for all our vehicles!
