Anyways we are BEYOND satisfied with Ed's Affordable Automotive , staff & all. Let alone the quality of work done on our vehicle and communication. Anytime we've called or stopped in the customer service has been GREAT. I don't have one complaint.

I had been looking for a minivan for my business needs for several months and finally found one in Palatine. I found Ed on google and called him to see if he could do the inspection as I live 1 hr away. Ed squeezed me into his schedule that day and did an incredible job. He found several things that needed to be addressed. I ended up purchasing the vehicle, and my own mechanic that I've had for 17 years found the exact same things. Ed was more than affordable and he gave me peace of mind, so that I could proceed with purchasing the vehicle. It was a great purchase that will absolutely help my business needs, and it would not have been possible, had I not found Ed, so thankful! I will send more work their way!!!
No long winded story needed here, Ed and his staff are top notch. My family and I have been going to Ed since the early 1990's and have always been happy.
I brought my car and went inside, but no one was in the front. I could tell someone was behind the huge dirty fish tank tending to the fish. Since it was very cluttered in there, I didn't notice the service bell at first so I just stood there looking at the signs on the wall and waiting. When I finally saw it, I hit the bell. Then, I noticed an "NRA" (National Rifle Association) sign. While I was still processing that, my eye turned to a sign with a picture of the city of Chicago with the words written on it that said something like "World's Largest Shooting Range." I didn't know if that was a critique on gun violence in the city (which if so, was a callous, exaggerated, and stereotype-reliant way to express it) or if it meant the owner of the shop feels that he has the free rein to shoot anyone in the city if he feels like it, but the NRA sign lead me to think it might be the latter. As someone who is from Chicago, I didn't feel comfortable. Those signs made me think this might be someone who is trigger happy and looking for any excuse to shoot someone and/or has very biased and violent attitudes. Either way, I wasn't comfortable, so I left. As I was pulling out, I could see the person finally come outside of the door looking to see who rang the bell. I just kept going. I ended up going to my car's dealership and spending over $2300. I'm fine with the amount for the amount of service I got on my car. I just think it's quite something that the owner's decision to showcase his problematic attitudes in his place of business cost him that much money. I hope he leaves the sign up, though. It's like a literal red flag to tell others who might feel the way that I do to turn away and not give your money to this potentially scary, violent, and bigoted person.
My experience here was HORRID I had my Car here for 5 months and they never fixed it every day I called they had a excuse that they were short staff YEA AIIIII FIX MY CAR KING LOVE Amo
Do go to the garage. He will loot you when you are on emergency repair and go to the garage. He will not tell the price first and ask time to see. After that he will tell triple price and hurry up you to decide to repair for the price you tell. He will make use of your situation and loot you with triple money for the time you kept car in his garage.
I have had two cars repaired at Ed’s.Jason and Adam have done the work efficiently and thoroughly with care.They explain the issues well and I trust the work that has been done and the prices are affordable and honest
We took in our 2002 Nissan Sentra in after it overheated and stalled in traffic on the fourth of July. They were pretty backed up so it took them several days to get to our vehicle. After looking it over he said we needed a new computer part called a PCM that controls the fan. We were just visiting from Michigan and wanted to get back ASAP, but trusting his word we waited over two weeks for the part to come in. Finally after being held back for almost a month in total they replaced the PCM and checked over the engine saying it was good to go. We no longer felt heat coming from the engine so this repair was done correctly, however the next day we tried to make the 8 hour drive to Northern Michigan and it stalled twice on LSD, putting us in a very dangerous situation. We then had to get it towed back to our house. When we made it back we asked a family friend who owns a repair shop to look at it for us and he showed us how the engine sounded bad, was badly corroded, and wires had been chewed by mice. All of these issues should have been very obvious to any trained professional. We wasted $900 and a month of our time trying to fix a car that was a complete lost cause. He might have been friendly but this is certainly one of the worst experiences we've ever had at a mechanic.
Our friend said he probably didn't tell us the engine was a lost cause because he wanted to make money. Either that's the case, or he honestly missed these glaring issues, which is still deserving of a bad review. He said he couldn't predict what would happen in the future. I might give him the benefit of the doubt but the car broke down again the next day. I'm no trained mechanic but I saw the obvious issues myself, and you can probably see them as well from the attached photos
Love this place to take my car. Very helpful and friendly. They will explain things and will call with estimate before doing any big job. Wouldn't think about taking my car anywhere else.
Honest, reasonably priced work. This place has been here for decades and there’s a reason for that. I will bring my car here for anything it needs and will continue to recommend to my friends and family.
I have been a long time customer of Ed’s with my Audi S5. They treat my car like it’s their own, always do a fantastic job, and I always leave astonished at how affordable it was. I couldn’t recommend them more.
Upon dropping my vehicle off at 10:30am at the shop, I was told the job (rear brake shoes) would take no more than 2 hours. The work on my car was time sensitive and the owner Ed agreed that my car would be worked on upon drop off and would be done right after lunch. I called the shop at 2:00 pm and was told my vehicle was still being worked on and was told they would call me when it was done. I called back again at 4:00pm and Ed had said my car was ready to get picked up. Upon picking up my vehicle, I expressed my frustration with the lack of communication as I learned my vehicle was apparently ready a short time after I had called at 2:00pm and that no one called me to inform me. Jason, the mechanic, stated he never got around to calling me after completing the job and thought it was funny. I shared my frustration with Ed about the lack of customer service I had experienced. It was evident that Ed was defensive as he began to talk over me and make excuses that he didn't care about my concerns as the customer. It was clear they don't value their customers as I left with this concern unresolved. I do not recommend this place, seeing as they don't care if you need your car in a timely manner.
Good work, great price, no nonsense. If every repair shop worked like this the entire industry would have a much better reputation! Always gets me back on the road fast with no fuss.
Owner and his manager are really cool guys, and know their stuff up & down & inside out.
Super fast, though you might want to call ahead; as with any good business they CAN be busy.
On top of all that they also have fair pricing. I personally make a little extra drive to bring my vehicles to them. I even had one vehicle towed over 30 miles to bring to them.
A trusted automotive shop is one of the most valuable things one can have.
I've been going to Ed's for 15 years and he has worked on all my cars from my 95 Toyota Corolla to my current car which is a 2011 Acura TL. Plus he has also worked on my Mom's car. Another thing is that he lets you bring in your own parts and gets your car fixed in a very decent time. Thx again for the Service over the Years.
Literally the only person I trust to work on my car. I appreciate that he explains something if I'm unclear. He'll tell me if there's something that needs to be done soon so I can budget. The name may also imply it but they'll save you a buck, saved me having to replace a whole exhaust system, as a college student, that matters!
Tried Ed's AA for the first time to change car's headlight bulbs on a friends recommendation. Was surprised that Ed was quick to take us in and got the job done expeditiously. The cost was probably cheaper than what I would have incurred if I bought the bulbs and was able to change the bulbs myself. Amazing positive experience.
I was recommended by a friend and I am super happy and very grateful for their service. Ed was super nice and very helpful with a tire lock issue I was having. I will definitely be using them again and referring him out. Thank you again Ed and staff for all your help.
Ed and everybody I have dealt with here has been wonderful. I have a problem with my VW and they have been so helpful and accommodating! I would highly recommend this place.
This place is great! They are fast, honest and reliable.
One thing to note - Google Maps will NOT get you there! You'll have to read a map the old fashion way in order to find it. Best bet is to go north on Vermont from Illinois Ave - its at the end of Vermont on the east side of the street. I highly recommend Ed's Affordable for any major or minor repairs to your vehicle!
Needing to rent a trailer on short notice we were directed to Ed's Affordable Automotive. Being a U-haul dealer he was the man we needed! Very pleasant & friendly. Met us at the counter with a smile! Very efficient & knowledgeable & a pleasure to work with!! Thanks Ed!!!
My car was dropped off this morning at 6:30 AM via tow. After great customer service and a helping hand and great prices, my car was back up and running by 8:15am (less than 20 minutes after they open). I can't thank you all enough for the help and customer service you showed me and my father. When my car was on a tow truck at 6:30am I never would have guessed I would be back on the road that same morning, but again, because of these guys it was all possible. Thank you again and I'm glad I found an excellent auto shop to always take my car to.
My family has been coming here for years. I continue to go there, even though I live 20 miles away now. I trust them to do a good job and to not invent expensive problems, like the chain places sometimes do.
The gentlemen running this shop are phenomenal people! We greatly appreciate their help with our Uhaul situation as it made all the difference in the world on a day where nothing seemed to go right. Cannot thank them enough!!!
I needed to rent a truck to sort through boxes and hold them overnight. Ed, a very down-to-earth person, listened to the three scenarios of rental I'd been contemplating, and then came up with a fourth scenario that fit my need. The rental of the U-Haul ended up costing me a little more than I expected (but less than it would have elsewhere), and I got a great deal on the additional time. The home purging has been going well because of this, and I'm confident I'll return to Ed's in future.
I have had our family and business vehicles serviced from Ed's for over 15 years. The greatest part of doing business with Ed and his staff is their straight forward approach, no candy coating diagnosing problems and setting your expectation for what it is going to cost. Ed, Patty and the rest of the crew are top notch, down to earth, professionals. I know our cost of ownership on vehicles has been kept at a minimum with Ed's Affordable.
