Brought in my 2011 F150 for what I expected to be a transmission issue. They were a recommendation from CarOne in Cary. I could NOT be more happy with the care I got from J&H. They listened to me and my concerns. Friday, 05/02/2025, Brian had me take him for a test drive so I could show him what was going on, all while he was plugged into my truck with a scan tool in the passenger seat. Spent an hour and a half at the shop talking to him and him showing me what he was finding. Kept my truck over the weekend and told me to bring back at the beginning of next week.
Tuesday morning, 05/06/2025, He took it in for a whole day and called me with his diagnosis on wanting to pull the valve body. He suggested I try a tune up before digging into it, which I appreciate because he said it was going to get expensive. I understand, it’s a transmission. After our initial conversation on Friday, he knew I was pretty handy and gave me the opportunity to do the tune up myself. He told me specifically which spark plugs to get and he was absolutely right. I changed all 8 of my spark plugs and it ended up not even being a transmission issue. I’m glad he took the time with me and was patient to really diagnose my truck and even more thankful that he gave me the suggestion and opportunity to fix it up before he started digging further into it. I would absolutely come back here and will recommend them to anybody I know. Thanks so much Brian and everyone else at J&H.
Such a great shop and experience! The owner Brian and office staff Kevin and Carissa are very honest and provide excellent customer service! The clutch on my Mustang went out and they gave a great price quote that was better than any shops in the area. They kept me updated on pricing and how long it would take to get done through the whole process. I had my car back in only a few days and was very happy with the care and professionalism that I was given on my car. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for any transmission/driveline repairs on any of my vehicles!

Had our 2002 Ford Sport Trac’s transmission finally go out after 260,000 miles. Yup, hard to believe it lasted that long. I bought the vehicle new back in 2002 and after the warranty went up. I have done all the maintenance myself since then.

I was quoted $500 for a torque converter install. I was charged $1,000. My transmission started leaking and I just wanted them to fix the leak. I've called a few times and they refused to get back to me. Never again will I do business with them again.
My '14 Escape's transmission broke. Apparently a common thing with Ford Escape cars. I decided to give A J&H a try, and I couldn't be happier with the results.
When I called A J&H Transmissions, I was provided a ranged quote, and the final repair cost was in this range. All was working well. A day after the repair, I noticed fluid leaking on my driveway. This car has never leaked. I brought it back to A J&H to have them check it out, and they gave me a ride back home while they looked at it! There can be a leak after a trans overhaul. The transmission was fine. Unfortunately, the car's turbo was now leaking. Yes, I am just THAT lucky.
The amazing part is the support I received from A J&H. They helped me drop my car off at the repair shop and drove me home! Who does that today? They truly felt terrible about my bad luck and helped me out so I could make it through the weekend. I am very grateful.
My only complaint about the repair is the inside of my car smelled like a transmission shop when I got it back. It's not great, but it goes away in a week or so.

DONT TRUST THIS BUSINESS ! Horrible service. The grown men were threatening me and my mom and cussing at us we are FEMALES. When they were charging me $200 for a tow when it was 10 minutes they broke my key did not want to pay for it and I decided to not do any business with them. They were so angry and didn’t want to give me MY OWN CAR. They are pricey you can find trustworthy people don’t trust these people ! My car also drove before getting to this shop and it stopped driving when we got there ! They take your parts and are very disrespectful go somewhere else trust ME !
Had my vehicle towed in for what I thought was a serious transmission problem. As it turns out, the transmission was not the problem, it was the engine. This was explained to me by Brian, who leads a team of transmission pros. First thing I noticed at AJ&H is that they are a very busy shop and it becomes apparent why when you talk to the staff. They are a dedicated shop that only does transmissions and they are very good. The condition of my car and possible solutions were explained to me very clearly. This allowed me to make an informed decision on the vehicle without feeling pressured. I would highly recommend this business to anyone with transmission issues.

My ‘06 Acura TL 6MT came through the shop a couple of months ago with a slipping/worn clutch. Brian and the company were super helpful along the process, and were much more reasonable in price compared to dealers, Honda/Acura specialty shops, and other transmission shops around the city/suburbs.
From initial quote all the way til payment and pickup, they reached out and discussed the labor, parts and process all throughout and it helped me understand what I needed done outside of the transmission. We ended up replacing the clutch and a couple of engine and transmission seals while the car was in the shop.
As for the car, the slipping is completely gone and drives just like when I first picked it up. Couldn’t recommend Brian and the shop any more.

I had a wonderful experience at AJ&H Transmission. My initial contact was with Kelvin. He was very caring and genuinely concerned about my car care needs. When I arrived at the shop, he immediately scanned my 2007 Toyota Camry (v 6 engine with 108,400 miles) and he did a test drive at no cost.
I brought my vehicle to the shop because prior to my visit, I had a check engine light and an error code that showed an issue with my solenoid D. When I arrived to the shop, there were no warning lights on my dashboard other than a need for basic maintenance which was required soon.
Kelvin took care of my needs and I felt great relief. He was so kind, caring, trustworthy, knowledgeable and professional. Although I was close to an hour away from home, I would definitely return for services when needed.
I also met with the owner and with Clarissa who also works in the office. Everyone was professional, caring, honest and concerned about my genuine welfare and car care needs. Brian was the most honest person I have met. I was referred by an experienced mechanic to get my transmission checked based on the symptoms. Brian checked my car, kept it for 1 day, and called me he wasn't able to find any issue with my car. He asked me to go back to the mechanic and get my car's front end checked. If someone asks me if I know someone who can fix transmission I will not think twice if I have to refer them.

Stay clear! Very dishonest man! “Brian”actually delivered my vehicle back to my driveway after trying to charge me $5000, I had to have my own insurance company tow it back to my driveway, and all the parts were missing including the whole transmission from my Cadillac CTS 2008, so he kept the transmission and left all the parts unconnected, and then the tow truck driver brought it back to my driveway unassembled. So, this is what you will experience, all I can tell you is do not deal with this guy Brian, he is an absolute disaster. He left all the parts unconnected and then the tow truck driver brought it back to my driveway.
Also he will steal the emergency money $20 from your glove box. If he pretends to be nice he’s a fake, run away.
Unbelievable, so called “Brian” the extortionist, misled me and removed my transmission without even a simple quote or permission, then wanted to charge me $1500 to put it back without permission to do anything but the free diagnosis, like he advertises on his misleading website. But he worked me and deceived me into taking my trans out to see if there is a "simple fix" according to him. Then he calls and says I have to drop the transfer case to check it. Then he calls and tells me it's $4000. Then I say no way, I asked you to do a free diagnose. Then he said time clock is ticking. Then I had to call the cops and they told him to give me my car. So, I sent a tow truck and it arrived at my driveway with all the transfer case parts in the back seat and trunk and the whole exhaust separate. Of course the transmission was missing as well, and He rigged it so now it does not start and it’s all apart and I can’t sell it. Don’t USE THIS NONSENSE SHOP OR YOU WILL REGRET IT! Brutal incompetence!

Be warned this Brian nutcase wants to be radio personality and will quickly turn a very small and easily fixable transfer case rebuild into an entire transmission replacement to the tune of $8000 for you. All for his own selfish profit at your expense. Be prepared to have your vehicle towed out of his facility to a legitimate facility, if you go that route stay away this nut who will attempt to talk you into submission.
Whatever you do, avoid this place at ALL costs. If I could rate this a 0 star I would. My son (17 at the time) dropped off his 2010 Mercedes on November 6, 2023 for transmission work. He advised as well as I advised that he only had $2500 to spend. My son and I called over 33 times from November 6 until the middle of December trying to find the estimate for repair. We were told over and over "we do not have an estimate yet as we are trying to find parts." Despite our numerous calls (we have the call logs as well) we were never given an estimate. It was not until my son received a call at school in December to advise him that "he owed" $7,200 and "the car still needed to be programmed by Mercedes at $500 to $1000 per hour." As anyone would, we lost our minds. When you tell a shop not to go over $2500 and they call saying you owe $7200 it is rather mind blowing. Needless to say we refused to pay this. We moved forward with a small claims lawsuit (feel free to look it up) in January of 2024. The shop failed to show up to the small claim court two times (despite me emailing them and sending certified mail). It was until we had them served by the Sheriff that they finally showed for the third hearing on 6/27/2024. We were sent over to mediation where it was agreed we receive the car back in the condition we were told (completed just needed programming) in exchange for the $2500 we always agreed to. We paid the money on 6/28/2024 and called AAA to two the vehicle. AAA showed up around 1:30pm on 6/28 to tow the car, the tow driver was going to jump the battery in order to move the car to a more convenient spot. The owner BRIAN came out telling him not to jump the car or he will fry the "TCM." A TCM is located INSIDE the transmission. The two truck driver was scared then, and called another tow truck driver to come (a standard repo type of tow truck). This driver arrived around 2:38pm the same day. We had the car immediately towed from the shop, directly to Mercedes for programming. When I arrived over at Mercedes, Charlie tells me that the shop called him and said "that car doesn't have a transmission." I thought Mercedes was pulling my leg until they went outside and lifted the car to show me the car was missing the transmission and ALL the wiring. THE SHOP had RIPPED OUT THE Transmission (more than likely when we won the court case).
My husband immediately went to the police station and took the police with him to the shop. A police report has been filed for theft, we are now moving forward with a larger lawsuit as this has been obvious theft when they told the tow truck driver he would fry the TCM, KNOWING good and well when the two truck driver jumped the car he would notice it didn't have a transmission. There is no reason to tell the tow truck driver that the TCM will get fried if there is no transmission.
We now have evidence from the tow truck company (witness testimony), Mercedes, as well as video evidence from neighboring businesses. We also spoke to neighboring business and are told the police are always at this location for customer complaints and the owner is an as*hole to everyone. We personally have two police reports against this place.
I am posting this to warn everyone, our situation is sad because my son has saved for this car since he started making money and bought it from an insurance auction and fixed the car all up for over a year with his own money. These people are taking advantage of others, and now along with many others that have bad experiences will have to take accountability.
100% recommend this place! We brought my car here and Alex was the one who helped us. He was very friendly, honest and extremely knowledgeable. I wish this was a full service shop because I would love to bring my car here for all work! Highly recommend.

I just revisited AJ&H 6 months after my first review, with a different car this time. I met Brian, the owner, and he went above and beyond to help me with my vehicle. This is a shop that has been here for decades, these people really know their stuff and I’ve found them to be more upfront, honest and reasonably priced than anywhere else in the NW suburbs.
A J&H Transmission is a sensational company for your transmission needs. Brian, Carissa, and their team are the tops when it comes to service, knowledge, value, and communication. During my transmission rebuild, they offered great insight towards my wish list of upgrades along with options to save money while working within my budget. Dropped my van to get my transmission repaired at this place last Friday, took them just a week to get it back.. customer service is beyond 100%, i didn't have a ride to get home, so i was going to take an uber and they told that they can take me home "sweet!!!" . Don’t trust these folks ! Go somewhere else ! Had to pay $200 for a 10 minute tow and would not provide me with the tow company receipt instead they provided me with the shop receipt. They lie to much saying that they’re closed when they’re not . Or when you try speaking to the manager he’s never there when he really is !
